Several times the entry door and floor was obviously not cleaned for more than a day. Friday I booked a business lunch and at noon, the floors hadn't been cleaned from the previous business day. The men's room was dirty. It makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is , if there is no pride taken in the presentation of the other areas of the restaurant. I'm okay with the exception, but now it is common not to expect a clean environment at Chops. Outside of an occasional carryout, my dine-in is most likely done.

You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.

As the shrimp cooled I went to town on what may have been the messiest meal of my life. (Do NOT order unpeeled shrimp if you are on a first date or a job interview) Let me tell you - these shrimp were unbelievable. They were swimming in sauce and as I peeled them, i then dipped and chowed. The cilantro/chili/garlic? sauce was off the charts good. The onions and cucumber buried within it were also a nice discovery as I made my way through this mountain of a full pound of shrimp. It took a while and the sauce dripped down to my elbows at times. It was a caveman eating experience and it was probably the best Mexican dish I have ever eaten. It was probably a good thing I was eating alone. I don't see any other way to eat this unless you're a psychopath crunching through shrimp shells. But leaving those shells on keeps the shrimp moist as they cook and more importantly it keeps the shrimp flavor from cooking off into the sauce. Shrimp with the shell on do taste better - they are not just being lazy here. This meal was great and I would love to go back if I'm driving through again. Thank you for this!

The batter was very thin, flakey and a touch oily. It has a nice seasoning to go along with the chipotle sauce. Definitely worth a try if you like onion rings. The crust is a hand tossed style and baked to a soft crispy crust. It has a slightly sweet flavor with a mild flour taste. The sauce was not very prominent to the flavor - mild tomato sauce taste. The sauce was hidden by the pile of fresh toppings. There was a nice amount of delicious mozzarella cheese to hold the toppings together and give it a moist pizza flavor. Cold Pizza Test - the pizza was still soft and moist 24 hours later. It seems like the ingredients "marinated" and enhance the Italian flavors. The mozzarella cheese flavors tended to "pop" more. Delicious cold pizza! Overall a pizza. Dinning in is a nice experience. Beautiful facility. Casual and relaxed...though it's pretty loud. Professional and friendly service.

Let's get this out of the way, it is definitely more expensive than the other sushi restaurants in Fort Wayne (Koto being our usual favorite). That being sandcastle it was worth EVERY penny. Wow! We were blown away. We started with the Lobster Scallop Cakes and as soon as she set them down on the table, we couldn't wait to dig in. They were light and crisp and FULL of flavor. I would happily go back, just for the appetizer. Next, we shared the Sushi Flight and a Verve Roll. We had assumed the four rolls in the sushi flight would not be quite enough to fill our ravenous sushi appetite, but boy were we wrong! There was SO. MUCH. SUSHI. It was all truly delicious and the Baked Scallop Roll was possibly my favorite. We also had a couple cocktails, which were pretty strong, and a lovely plum wine. If you're open to spending some money on some great food, Umi is worth it! We will definitely be back. read more

I had the beef nagasaki to begin with it was delicious with a great crunch in the middle. The miso soup was very yummy. For my main course I had the diva roll and the spicy california roll. Both were amazing. My guest wasnt a big sushi fan like me so they went with the chicken teriyaki and found it to be very enjoyable! My server was very polite and helpful in showing me the very cool tablet of speciality sushi rolls and drinks. Overall it was a great atmosphere where you can actually enjoy a conversation. This is now my favorite sushi place in all of Fort Wayne! This was honestly one of the best dining experience I have ever had! The atmosphere is modern and very nice! We were seated in Tyler's area. He is an amazing server! Very nice, very knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu and drink selections! And the food, Wow! Some of the best sushi and sashimi I've had! Went here for our son's birthday and the food was spectacular. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was impeccable. After telling our server this the manager was just walking by and we told him also. He ended up giving my family and I a guided tour and not only is it a wonderful place to have a meal but the bar looked amazing and the whiskey room was beautiful. The function room would be a fabulous place to have a reception or any function you choose. I can't stress how wonderful this place is. Do yourself a favor and visit Umi asap. read more

For starters.. this restaurant is not your normal large commercial hibachi/ Japanese restaurant. They service was great, our waitress Melany was very attentive and very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask if you are ordering too much or too little. The restaurant itself was very nice inside, it had a very modern interior that was very beautiful. It's not super upscale but very good for a weekend dinner with the family or friends. Regarding food, the tuna cubes were very good! I've been to Umi now about 3 or 4 times. Each time I have ordered something different and it has been amazing. The service is great and I always feel welcomed. It is a classier restaurant but it is a nice family environment for well behaved children who have a more refined pallet. They are very accommodating to special requests as well. Prices are a little higher than many other restaurants in the area but it is well worth it due to ingredients and portion sizes. I will continue to go back for many occasions! read more

Must visit!!! I've had sushi all over the US, up and down the west coast. Umi competes on the same scale as many of the high end restaurants you'll find on the coast. The restaurant had a wonderfully lively atmosphere, yet it never felt too loud or overwhelming. Our server, Caity, was fantastic. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and her hospitality made our evening very special. EVERYTHING she suggested was perfection. We had and enjoyed their signature Crab Cakes, Sea Bass, and Beignets. If drinking alcohol try the marvelous Old Fashioned, and if not drinking alcohol try the refreshing Lemon Meringue. Caity made our night unforgettable. 1,000 stars all the way! We will definitely be back.

Not too hard to find with plenty of parking. The place is moderately large and can accommodate a group of 6-8 pretty well. The inside is decorated nicely to fit the Thai flair. Things were clean, orderly and food repairable for a small shop. Don't be alarmed if dishes sit on tables unbused for a while. It appears that they only have one waitress/host/bus person. Things sat a long while on this busy visit. The menu is fairly large and has many of your standard Thai dishes. The prices were reasonable. You feel like you got a good value as the portion sizes were decent and most things came with soup. The soup was your standard. Not much to distinguish the taste. It was pleasant, warm and tasty. I started with the Tod Mon Goon - which is basically a mashed shrimp patty that is fried. The shrimp tasted fresh and had a nice consistency for smashed shrimp. It was moist. The beading was nice and thick and fried to a perfect crisp. Just enough crisp to know that it was fried. But it did have a slightly heavy oily taste. The breading was thick enough to hold the shrimp together. The white sauce was very tasty. I thought it would be a tropical-coconut flavor. It seemed to be a Mayo tule sauce with a slight fruity flavor. You really couldn't distinguish the flavors. It had a thick consistency and nicely accented the dried shrimp! My entree was the Tom Yum seafood bowl. The bowl was large and contained a decent amount of shrimp, crab pieces, calamari and a couple mussels. All were gently cooked as they were boiled in the broth. The broth started out mild and got progressively hotter in spice taste. The broth was tasty enough to spoon up or pour onto the small rice dish provided. The tomatoes, mushrooms and lemon grass were nice accents to the seafood. Together they all made an enjoyable taste! In general the atmosphere here is very relaxed. We were comfortable in the booths. The waitress let us talk as long as we wanted. Overall a pretty good dining experience.

When you add the high prices, I just glad I didn't have to pay since this was a corporate meal the evening before a board meeting. While the salad bar has many choices including I think caviar, it just like others of this type of restaurant. Of course have jelly belly type jelly beans is an interesting idea. My lobster bisque was at best average without chunks of lobster meat that I get at Weber's in Ann Arbor. Menu has to be limited since they have it on a meat cleaver (too cute but very heavy idea). Others enjoyed their choices. Our group was in one of the dining rooms and not the private room. A little noisy. The parking lot is really too small when I is busy and only has 4 handicap parking spaces. I hope we save money next year and go to some place else.
