Late night meal after playing bingo, and we were able to get seated at 10pm. Wide open, clean interior with plenty of booths and tables. Had no problem getting seated. Massive menu, plus there was a happy hour that cut appetizers and roll prices by a few bucks. The value was pretty good compared to other sushi restaurants in the Bay Area The tastes of the rolls and food varied. For the cooked items, they were all fairly reliable. The udon was loaded, to katsuo well fried, and tempura not bad (although odd choice of the veggies included in the mix tempura, including bell pepper). The cooked rolls were a bit heavy handed of sauces (and cheese, perhaps, on the Bob roll), and weren't too my taste, but the dragon and CA roll were good. Anything involving raw started to get inconsistent. The John roll was fantastic, but the tuna tataki had a odd sear that made the taste off-putting. Overall, the food is about average, but with the great value during happy hour and the positive staff service, I can justify coming back here again, especially for late night eats. read more

My friend always talks about the portion friendly and price for their food. We had ordered a few speciality rolls and a bento box with 2 miso soups. The people who worked there did not seem to be bothered by our party dropping in an 1/2 hour before they closed and were very accommodating. Rolls and the Bento came out super quick and the Chicken Bento was quite large. The Caterpillar roll was very good and Philly and Cali rolls was also good. The price tag for the meal was very inexpensive and we felt there was a mistake being it was very low. My only small complaint is that they had put a lemon slice right next to one of them so it made that nigiri taste all lemony by the time I got my food. The dragon roll was meh ($14.45). The unagi had bones in it. I have to dock points for that cause they got me playing Russian roulette over here. Overall, I would give them more of a 3.5 rating. i am always looking for new places to try whenever I am working from our concord office. I had this place book marked for the longest time and finally tried it. I normally judge a Japanese restaurant based on how they cook their chicken teriyaki, fish, and California rolls. I decided to order the three item bento. The prices here are not bad, and they serve good portions. The fact they don't overly fill the bento with a huge amount of rice is a plus. The chicken teriyaki was not dry and the kazukatsu (fish) was done well. I enjoyed the creamy dressing and the California rolls was eight regular roll pieces. There was plenty of wasabi. They did not skimp on anything! The only thing I wish they gave was hot tea along with the ice water. I have not tried their sashimi yet even though some reviews here say the fish is not fresh. It's been a long time since I came back here but I am glad to give this place a try again. They were one of the few places that were open on the 4th for Sushi. And I am glad they were. I was here with my aunt and uncle and they were treating me for lunch. The service was pretty attentive, and they were quite busy inside. Soft Shell Crab: I normally do not eat this, but this tasted very delicious. They did not use too much breading when making this, which I appreciated. I did taste the crab and the dipping sauce was a nice complement to it. Inari: This is always my favorite thing to get. I just love having the tofu with the rice combo. It was not too overly sweet or sour, just the right combination I would want from Inari. I would order this again. Sashimi Plate: They give you five different types of fish, which I can only remember four of them (Salmon, Tuna, Red Snapper, and Hamachi). The 5th fish I know we asked, but I cannot remember the name. They were pretty big portion sized for a sashimi plate. I wold say this is worth getting if you enjoy sashimi. Dreaming Gina: This roll was a nice taste to eat. It has a cream cheese filling, which I feel puts the roll as a whole. I only had a few pieces but I will say that I found it enjoyable at least. Telegraph Avenue: This roll is more of the baked side. It was crunchy and delicious and the sauce you get on top, as well as the sashimi, worked well altogether. I would get this roll again. Flaming Dragon: This was my personal roll that I ordered. I was appealed by the fact it was lit on fire. They light it at the bar before the server brought it to us, and we got to see the show of it. Once extinguished, the roll itself looked like melty goodness. The jalapenos were not too spicy and the melted cheese with the roll itself was amazing. I would order this again. Overall, I am glad to come back here and try them again. Can see myself coming back here many times. read more

I used to come here for my birthdays because of the large party spaces on both sides of the restaurant that seat up to 16 people. My mom recently took me here for dinner during the week, and it was pretty busy. I did notice only 2 servers, and they were definitely running around trying their hardest. Yikes, I don't remember the last time I gave a.1 star review but this is more of a PSA.. This place is a hard no. The health department needs to take a close look at Kansai. I got the soft shell crab appetizer and I'm pretty sure it wasn't soft shell crab; it also came out so fast ii wondered how they even had time to put the order in. It was like an oyster on the inside and the dimensions were way off. The scallop was good. Everything tasted like it had been soaked in salt water. The Ami Eli was tasteless and the heads had a foul smell; they were completely inedible. Even the water tasted off, like the dishes hadn't been washed and rinsed properly. The inside of the restaurant is really nice and a great place if you want to grab sushi. It's usually a place for bigger groups of people, so it does tend to get busier around lunch and dinner. The bento boxes are really good and decently sized. However, i decided to try the spicy seafood soup. This dish was super salty and almost unbearable to eat the seafood items let alone drink the soup. It was a thick texture and the seafood included mainly chunks of shrimp, pieces of fish, and not much else. I have been there a few times and I can say that they do tend to take a little longer than most places to prepare your food. The servers are usually ok but they rarely check up throughout the meal. The restaurant is in a pretty busy plaza so finding parking can take a few minutes. This place is definitely one of the more popular Japanese restaurants in Concord so while it is worth the try for sushi, donburis, or bentos i would not recommend straying too far from the classics. read more

I and my wife celebrated Valentine's day by having lunch at Kansai in Concord. Parking is plenty since it's in an establishment with several restaurants. The place is clean and the service is excellent. I and my wife decided to order their rolls. and had a variety of them to share. We had their Katie 2 roll, Godzilla crunch roll, and volcano baked roll. These rolls are delicious. They are served in big portions and more than enough for me and my wife. They serve several rolls as well as sushi. They also have a lunch special on their menu. This place is nice and also serves good Korean fusion food. We have been here at Kansai numerous time throughout the years, even when then it was a former revolving ayce sushi place. I'm quite surprised I haven't reviewed Kansai. So I went ahead during my lunch break for a quick dinner. Being a former ayce sushi restaurant, Kansai is fairly large inside. Being on a clock and just in for a quick bite, I opted to get there 3-item bento box which consists of Tonkatsu, Saba (mackerel), and California roll. A miso soup is also included with the meal. After about 10 minuities, my bento box came and boy it sure looks appetizing. More importantly, Kansai's bento box gives you much more than your average bento box form other Japanese restaurants. The Tonkatsu served is about double the amount you'd except from others. The California roll, which is usually almost an afterthought from other restaurants, was substantial. It was substantial enough that its serving can constitute and whole order of the roll if ordered by itself. At was delicious as well without the fuss of a cucumber filler which I dislike. And the Saba, man, I cannot stop picking the fish with my chopsticks. Precariously navigating the yummy, perfectly charred fish so as not to include any fish bones as I eat it without hesitation. The 3-item bento box costed me north of $20, well withing the mid-$20 territory. But I felt that the whole meal was well worth it becasue of the amount of food that was served and the delicious taste of all the items in it. The California roll was executed well, I see myself coming back to Kanai for an all out sushi roll experience. Overall, Kansai is a very good Japanese restaurant and I definitly see meself coming back. read more

The beef teriyaki was pretty good a little dry but the sauce was sufficient enough. Their sashimi was really good. It was one of the freshest fish I've ever had. I liked that they were open until 11:30pm (with a late night happy hour 10pm until closing)! Kansai is located in the same plaza as 99 Ranch. The Google Maps GPS may take you a strange route that goes behind the buildings first. The restaurant was clean and pretty big! I saw three different TVs all on the ABC channel. Not much of a wait around 9:30pm. Service was very prompt. The food was good. Ordered a pretty Princess cocktail. The cocktail menu is on the little standalone card on the table. Not listed on the main menus themselves. Also had the power spider roll, dragon roll, and rainbow roll. As you can see the rolls were a good portion. The slices of fish were thick. I enjoyed the rainbow and dragon roll more than the power spider roll. The drink wasn't overwhelmingly strong, but you could taste the alcohol. Great option for late night sushi.
