$350 worth maybe $200. That's even stretching it.

Skip the "Christmas Meal" Underwhelming, Overpriced, and Empty Food Trays Rating: I recently visited Kanu at Whiteface Lodge for a holiday meal with my family, and unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. The experience was underwhelming, the food was cold, and the prices were exorbitant. It is with great disappointment that I write this review. Firstly, the quality of the meal was far from what we expected. The dishes lacked flavor and creativity, leaving us unsatisfied. To make matters worse, the food was served cold, which was a big letdown. It's disheartening when a special holiday meal fails to meet even the basic standards of taste and temperature. Another issue we encountered was the emptiness of the food trays. Despite the restaurant being only half full, the trays were frequently empty, and it seemed like the staff wasn't able to keep up with the demand. This lack of attention to replenishing the food displays left us feeling frustrated and disappointed. Kids were $25 and don't come with a soda. Very petty on a holiday menu to not offer a drink to a child. NO GLUTE FREE! I was told they would have gluten free options for our child who has celiac. He had steam and sorbet. That was it. $28 :/ Moreover, the prices at Kanu were significantly higher than what we would consider reasonable. We paid a staggering $350 for two adults and two children under 10, expecting a memorable and enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, it was far from that. The value we received for the price paid was simply not worth it. If you're looking for a holiday meal that lives up to your expectations, I would strongly advise skipping Kanu at Whiteface Lodge. Save your money and find a restaurant that offers better quality, service, and value. Overall, this was a complete waste of a holiday meal, and I sincerely hope that the management takes note of the shortcomings and makes improvements for the sake of future diners.

I am all about value in a meal. But the Whiteface Lodge is a little bit different. It's more of an experience that you need to consider. I have stayed at the lodge three times over the past few years. And this most recent trip was just as wonderful. The Kanu has a great selection of wine yet a limited menu. It's quite good food with very nice plating. Yes, the prices are high but the staff is always amazing. They are conversational, interested, and value that you have a good experience. It's not about how many people we can get in and out. It's more about creating memories. When it comes to that, I'm all in. Our meal was perfect. We sat near the windows while it snowed and the fireplaces were going on either side of the dining room. I had the pork chop with Gorgonzola gnocchi and my wife had the red snapper. We really enjoyed our meals as well as the atmosphere and service. This is one place where my value for the meal adjusts. Especially when I get to share it with my lovely wife. This is a special place to take in the area as well as rejuvenate.

A convenient place when you don't want to venture outside the lodge. Nice rustic interior with a view of the lodge's outdoor area between the lodge & clubhouse. Quick efficient service & located on the second floor of the lodge which was great for those of us who were located just down the hall :) Enjoyed some casual food & the drinks were a good pour. Drinks are pretty pricey which is why I took 1 star off.

    Bison Burger - VERY good

Amazing time here. Lumber Jack libation drink & bison burger were very very good. Shrimp Pot Pie was very good too and I liked that it was deconstructed so it was a lighter version of a pot pie. Ambiance was amazing!! Highly recommend!

If you are staying at the Whiteface Lodge, you should definitely dine here. The ambiance is amazing and the views are awesome. The service is very friendly and efficient. The food is very good but the dinner menu is somewhat limited. After a couple of nights you would find yourself having the same thing again. Other than that, try their daily soup specials. They are very good. Also, have the Filet Mignon if it's on the menu.

Pan Seared Scallops , full of flavor and decadent. Perfect sized entree.

Delicious dinner. We were there for our 30th anniversary. They brought us 2 glasses of champagne and comped our dessert.

Cozy restaurant and good service but food was not so great. I was really surprised, hopefully they will make changes.

I was trying to decide between their corned beef & hash rosti or their sausage gravy & biscuits and when I asked the server which to go with, she said they were out of corned beef, so I went with the sausage gravy & biscuits, but I added scrambled eggs and chicken tenders to it. It came out pretty quickly and the eggs tasted good... the chicken tenders were great... the sausage gravy was running and had large chunks of sausage and very little flavor. The biscuits were also on the bland side. Service I received from the lady handling the dining room was friendly and nice, I just wish they had more staff to not have the wait to be seated... it clearly upset the folks behind me in line as well (based on overhearing their comments). Would I return, perhaps, just get something different.

There was a fire that destroyed the previously…read morerestored hotel in 2006 (or maybe 2005) but before that I had visited and had the great honor to spend some time with Forrest "Dew Drop" Morgan. A local celebrity, a WWII Vet, Coach for the US Bobsledding Team, and an accomplished storyteller who was the owner of the Dew Drop Inn in Saranac Lake, NY. He also bartended at the Lake Placid Lodge. He's gone now but I had to mention him as a local fixture, celebrity, and just a wonderful human being. Anyway, on to Maggie's. It's a cozy place in an amazing building. Google the Lake Placid Lodge to get the full story. I'm here for a writing retreat for a few days so this review might (lol) cover multiple meals. Why multiple meals? Because I'm here for a few days and it's a lot of fun to be able to eat here (and maybe their fancy restaurant - Artisans) and not drive! First up, a classic simple vodka martini. No vermouth, olives, and stirred not shaken. Executed perfectly thanks to the super friendly bartender. Next up to just sort of check it out was the French onion soup. Different than what you would expect with lots of crispy fried onions. The onion stock could have been stronger and they could have tripled the amount of high quality Gruyère. I mean really... I pretty much order FOS for the cheese... Still, for a bar, I'd give it a solid 7.5 out of ten. Next were some PEI oysters. Sorry, I ate one before I took the picture. They had a cucumber mignonette sauce which was really cool. Not briny but this cucumber thing was really something different and creative. This was actually off the fancy restaurant's menu (Artisans) and the bartender graciously let me order them. Course #3 - 'Dack Salad - Mixed Greens with Quinoa, White Balsamic Dressing, Labneh, Asparagus, Watermelon Radish and Sunflower seeds. Yes, what a great salad... as long as get rid of the Quinoa! Just my personal non-preference. Yeah, it's got fiber which is good but it just didn't vibe with the wonderful greens and balsamic. I hate yogurt. Sorry... but this Labneh somehow worked nicely. This is a great salad and with a protein, a meal. Lastly a burger. Local beef from Donohue Farms. Yes! It comes with a bacon marmalade (I love bacon, bacon marmalade, nope) which I got on the side and Meier's smoked cheddar (love smoked things but not on my burger tonight). Luckily they let me get some American cheese (yeah I know but I love it on burgers). The menu mentions Tucker Farms Pommes Frites so I'm assuming they are local farm fries. Ok, the burger with my modifications was great! One complaint. Maybe you can see it in the picture but if you only have tasteless anemic tomatoes, let's just not use them. Otherwise I loved it. The fries were great but had this white powder that I couldn't figure out. Ended up it was a truffle Parmesan but it didn't really taste like either. Though subtle might be a good thing. Overall I'd give this place a solid 3.9 but made it 4 stars for the environment, history, and great service! I'll be back tomorrow... Oh! By the way, Cory was the awesome bartender and Becky was the great attentive and friendly server who found me some Drambuie which I haven't had in years... maybe this place need more than 4 stars lol...

She gave us lots of information about Lake Placid town and lodge; and was so kind to make recommendations about Buffalo where we headed next. We had come only for the view and a drink before 5:00. It was an Ok basic G&T but a wonderful experience and view. We decided to stay for dinner which was excellent. However, it looses a star because I wanted the (fantastic!) fish and chips which happened to be on the cheapER ((not cheap) happy hour menu. That literally gets you pushed into a crowded corner of the deck! ... from where you get to watch the preferred guests lounge about on the mostly empty main deck. It seemed almost designed to humiliate those who were spending less on food. We laughed with the other banished diners about being on the "peasants' deck". Drink prices were the same for the undesirables however: $100 including tip for 4 mediocre drinks. Minus one more star.
