    Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box
    Christina D.

Stopped by for lunch and had a great meal. The baby octopus karaage was delicious-I highly recommended! The lunch bentos are excellent value. My Chirashi bento was incredibly fresh and came with miso soup and salad, while my cousin loved the Salmon Teriyaki. We also shared the Shrimp Tempura, and all the food was delicious. Our server, Jose, was fantastic--professional, warm, and friendly. My only complaint is that the music was a bit too loud for lunchtime conversation. However, the excellent food and Jose's top-tier service mean I'll absolutely be back!

    Lunch kibako gozen

Kappo Miyabi is a cute little Japanese restaurant near downtown Santa Monica. In general, I enjoy the quality of their fish as well as their various kushiyaki, as well as some of the unique dishes they have (like stone pot dishes). During our most recent visit, they were running a lunch gozen promotion, where you could get a kibako filled with small portions of various dishes for $35. This meal was absolutely gorgeous when it came out, and the portions were super reasonable for the price point. I really appreciated the uniqueness of this lunch offering, and hope that Kappo Miyabi continues this special as we would definitely return for this alone. Personally I opted for the salmon hijiki rice pot, which came out piping hot and had a decent amount of salmon on it. The rice on the bottom got a little burnt and crispy, which I love. I appreciated that the sauce came on the side, because it allowed me to control how much I wanted on my dish. Parking can definitely be tricky, but if you are coming on any day but Sunday, you can park at the Santa Monica library, which is less than a block away, and walk. Parking at the library is $2 for the first two hours. Otherwise, personally I have never had too much trouble finding metered street parking--you might just have to walk a bit more. Service was just okay. Didn't stand out to me in a good or bad way.

Agadashi Agedashi Tofu 4pcs - I think it's a bit overcooked, but the sauce is good.

Well, we ordered the miso eggplant again. It was not as good today. (I hate it when restaurants are not consistent.) My mom still loves the crispy rice with avocado. My dad thinks the yellowtail sashimi and the tempura are great. Meanwhile, I tried the udon today. It was dense. It was like they made broth, and then they just left all the used onions and chicken in it. The noodles were good (but you can buy good udon noodles frozen, ready-to-eat at any Japanese market). I'm sad that the food wasn't better, but my dad is still happy.

We have visited Kappo Miyabi a number of times in the past 5 years and have always enjoyed the food. It's close to the beach and the ambience is hip. We love the hand roll DIY boxes - it's as much sushi as a chirashi order but you make your own rolls with the fish and rice. So good!

Kappo Miyabi is one of those places that quietly flexes its talent--no frills, just beautifully executed fish, balanced flavors, and a dining experience that feels thoughtful from the first bite to the last. I ordered the set and it was genuinely impressive: fresh, clean cuts, perfect rice temperature, and pacing that let you actually taste every piece rather than rush through it. The albacore roll surprised me most--delicate, buttery, and just the right hint of citrus to make the flavors pop. One of those rolls you keep thinking about after you leave. And I have to give a special shout-out to Kevin, who made the meal even better. Attentive without hovering, knew his fish, and had great recommendations that didn't feel scripted. You can tell he actually takes pride in curating a good experience.

Got the premium chirashi and the rice was a little soggy and the tuna left a red residue on the rice and also some red fluid on the box (not sure if blood or red dye. Honestly never seen anything like this before but it made me feel uncomfy to finish eating this). The scallops and shrimp were delicious though.

How the bill came! In a cool Japanese wallet.

We were looking for a new authentic Japanese venue that not only tastes good but gives you an escape to Japan. Kappo Miyabi is just that! Quaint, authentic, from sushi to robata and sukiyaki! The tempura is to die for. The beef sukiyaki was both delicious and filling. My girlfriend loved the cute tables, both open and some in hidden spaces. The closed in patio was private and airy and a perfect spot if you're cooking at the table. The private room is spacious and likely holds 10 people. Our servers were polite and helpful. Fast and efficient order to table with the electronic pad. Everything was great! A must if you like authentic Japanese.

Came for dinner Tuesday night 11/25/25 and found out it was happy hour all day. I had a party of 4 and service was a bit strange at first because we were given 2 iPads to order on but they weren't connecting with each other so we couldn't see what we were truly ordering. Our server fixed the technical issue and the food ordering began. We ordered items and sake off the happy hour menu and 2 $75 dinner sets to share family style. All the food was amazing but this establishment did not have a sushi bar so it felt like it was missing the authentic touch. Decor seemed very traditional with a Santa Monica flare. I would visit again if I'm in the area

Kappo Miyabi is a Japanese / Izakaya restaurant located in Santa Monica. We were walking around Santa Monica Pier and Downtown Santa Monica shops area (in December 2024). Got hungry and a quick Yelp Search - we found Kappo Miyabi! We tried several items: - Wagyu Steak Hamburg - Jidori Chicken Negima (Chicken Skewers) Few Rolls & Sushi: - Dragon Rolls - California Maki - Spicy Tuna Maki - Fresh Roll (no rice) Dessert: - Matcha Butter Cake - Persimmon Ice Cream Drinks: - Yuzu Sparkling - Ringo Sparkling - Sapporo Food was delicious. Super fresh. Service was excellent. Our waiter spoke English and Spanish, so that helped out my friends (who spoke Spanish and was on a trip in LA) and me (speaking Spanglish)!

I love this place. It's super cute inside and feels like you are in Japan. The service is great. The sushi is so fresh and delicious. One of my favorite spots for sushi in Santa Monica.

Food: Really appreciate that there are plenty of non alcoholic and mocktail options since very few places have such a variety. The poppin' lychee with mint was delicious. Mentaiko udon - very light, subtle flavor; wish it had a stronger mentaiko presence though not too creamy which I liked Toro sushi taco - good amount of quality toro though wasabi is mixed inside which wasn't my preference Sunomono cucumber salad with wakame seaweed - not bad though even with the HH price, the portion was small and not worth it in my opinion Aburi shime saba - seared cured mackerel that was torched tableside was fun and the searing to order gave a freshly smoky flavor while the fish itself was cold so it had good contrast Sashimi mori - thick portioned cuts of good quality fish served on ice to keep cool and they're able to accommodate the amount to the number of people sharing; fish changes depending on availability but salmon, scallop, and yellowtail were good, wasn't crazy about the sweet soy sauce for the chutoro, sea bream not bad, bonito was smoky Kakuni pork belly taco - not overly heavy and really good flavors Corn ribs with shoyu butter - such a delicious glaze and crisp texture outside, super unique in flavor Hojicha creme brulee - really love hojicha and they infused it so well into the creme brulee with solid tea flavor that balanced really well so it wasn't too sweet Wagyu meatballs with onion soy reduction - personally love caramelized onions and they did such a good job getting the rich, sweet flavor out; it wasn't overwhelming since I broke down the meatball to soak up the sauce Edamame - sea salt and lime gave it good seasoning and portion was worth it for HH Honmaguro salmon - sashimi was good but pricey for the small portion Honmaguro bluefin tuna - sashimi was good but also pricey for the portion, though the cuts were thicker than the salmon so slightly preferable Poke taco - good amount of poke on a seaweed "tortilla" which was really worth it for HH Bluefin tuna nigiri set - good flavor and quality though toro chewier Premium nigiri set - absolute favorite from here though sadly was only a seasonal special; toro with caviar was amazing, sweet shrimp melted in my mouth with how tender it was and ikura was great, and the seared scallop was smoky with uni on top Negitoro with garlic bread - solid though prefer without cream and wasabi personally Karaage - super juicy and flavorful with dark meat used so it didn't need sauce Garlic shrimp - good with garlic chili crisp on top and great size Wagyu curry - good curry with a spicy kick that's not overpowering though the wagyu is ground beef so hard to distinguish the quality Dan dan noodles - prominent peanut flavor Omakase - Caesar's salad was great without cheese or heavy ranch and crisps on top for texture, seared cured mackerel always good, sashimi was thick cuts of sea bream, bonito, and bluefin tuna which were good, mussels and clams had great flavor from sauce, corn rib in shoyu butter and tempura battered shrimp with chili mayo was one of my favorite courses since the shoyu butter flavor and texture on the corn is so delicious and the shrimp was well cooked, the black cod was subtle in flavor and I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a sweet potato puree and roasted tomato as well as crispy skin and had that smokiness, wagyu meatball was great as usual, wagyu curry was super filling, miso soup great palate cleanser, and mango sticky rice sorbet was a bit too hard in texture for me personally and not enough mango Skip: mentaiko udon, sunomono cucumber salad with wakame seaweed, honmaguro salmon and bluefin tuna, dan dan noodles Would order again: HH edamame, HH poke taco, HH kakuni pork belly taco Must orders: hojicha creme brulee, aburi shime saba (seared cured mackerel), corn ribs, wagyu meatball (if you love caramelized onions), karaage I've been here four times now and have to say the $70 happy hour omakase (typically $80) was my favorite experience here so far although my favorite bites were from their seasonal special when the $20 nigiri premium set was offered. They have all day happy hour on Sundays and Mondays which is really nice to not worry about a cutoff and late night on Fridays and Saturdays from 9-10:30pm in addition to Tuesdays - Fridays 5-6:30pm and Saturdays 4-6pm. The omakase does end 30 min before happy hour does though!!

Although it didn't necessarily live up to the hype, it was definitely an authentic spot tucked in a busy area of LA. Parking, was particularly hard to find. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Immediately greeted by a friendly staff who showed us our table. Ambience was reminiscent of a local spot you'd find in Tokyo. A comforting, warm, bright place that serves as a familiar dinner spot that makes me wanna go back to Japan. For first timer, the menu was slightly hard to navigate. Lol, but I guess that speaks to the authenticity of the Japanese menu. Assorted pork belly wrapped yakitori/skewers, 7.8/10: these were hyped up by both my friend and the server, but overall it was slightly underwhelming. The skewers were all seasoned nicely, although they were a bit hard to eat since they were so big. Starting with the pork belly wrapped cabbage skewer, I don't believe the cabbage added any sustenance to the dish. I did like the bacon wrapped tomato skewer since the pop of acidity and freshness from the tomato paired well with the fat from the pork. Chicken Karaage, 9.1/10: definitely the best dish here. Chicken was fried perfectly, and was warm when it came out. The batter was not too thick or heavy. Season well with enough space. The lemon is a must for acidity and brightness. And of course they kewpie mayo is a nice touch. Tonkotsu Ramen, 7.5/10: the pork broth was rich and deep. The noodles were nice and chewy and firm clinging onto that broth. However, the portion was a bit small for the price. I was caught off guard by that. Granted, this place doesn't boast about the ramen. Overall, this wasn't anything mind blowing. Stuffed chicken wing, 8/10: stuffed generously with ground chicken ginger scallions and seasonings. The outside skin was flavorful crispy and savory. The temperature of the wings were pretty good too. Solid.

They did an AMAZING job for only two people managing so much. As soon as we were seated, we got waters and let our server know we would be paying separately. She was very friendly and worked with us perfectly. We were able to split the bill into four checks, which worked great for all the couples in the group. I ordered the Bento Box with salmon, and my husband got the Bento Box with chicken. We also ordered the Crunch Roll. The Crunch Roll came out first, and it was delicious and definitely lived up to the name--it was actually crunchy! I loved the size of the Bento Box. It came with so much food and included a starter miso soup. The miso soup had great flavor, although I personally prefer larger tofu pieces. That might just be a personal preference, though. I usually have a lot more to say in my reviews, but everything was absolutely delicious and the service was truly 10/10. I do want to mention that one of our friends ordered the ramen, and she felt the flavor was a little bland. Her parents own both a Mexican restaurant and a sushi restaurant, and one of her dad's rules is that if you're a sushi restaurant, stick with sushi and do it well instead of trying to do too many different things. One thing done really well is sometimes better than trying to do everything.

I did not like where they sat us initially and they volunteered the rooftop which is the best place in the whole restaurant. Opt for the rooftop if you can. We came for the brunch menu and ordered the omelette , the summer salad, the liver pate, the wagyu skewers, and the mochi beignets. The Wagyu skewers were immaculate. Mochi beignets are definitely a must have. They were kind of like Greek loukamades, but elevated. For drinks, we had the grapefruit high, and those were a nice alternative to mimosa. The service was immaculate and the rooftop had a shade in it so we never really got in the sun.

Once freshening up, we all walked from my place up the boardwalk to Belles Beach House! Excellent customer service, a variety of delicious dishes and an inviting atmosphere made for a memorable dining experience! 2 Orders of Crispy Rock Shrimp | Shared | This dish was a vibe, and one of my favorites! Plentiful, memorable flavorful & you can't just eat one... You'll keep craving more, which we all did! I highly recommend! Miso Maple Salad | Shared | I selected this salad, it was unique, has quite the bite to it, and I enjoyed it! I would order again! Includes crispy, quinoa, heart of palm, jicama, avocado, snow peas, gem lettuce, and miso maple! Garlic Butter Noodles | Shared | What a favorable combo! I would easily order again! Passion Fruit Mousse | Shared | I took a bite, which was yummy! If an island had a flavor, I feel this would be it! Haha! 2 Orders of Spicy Tuna & Salmon Avocado Roll | Shared | Yum! Both were delicious & The spicy tuna roll was my niece's favorite dish! Sharing is Caring | Shareable plates were my idea, as there were five of us! Why not sample the menu in all of its glory, as well as order a little something, each of us like?! After all, it was my first time dining here! Though all of us enjoyed the shrimp, one bowl of the shrimp was definitely enough for all of us! We didn't know the portion would be so huge! Family Affair | It was exciting having family in town to visit & I selected this restaurant for lunch! I knew that they appreciated places that were aesthetic, as well as had great food! Belles Beach House served Island Glam & memorable bites! There She Glows | She naturally glows, once you step inside, the lighting is so nice! It's such a beautiful place! A extra large seashell, as well as larger than life, wooden carved tiki figures, front and center greet you at the door... full-on Island vibe! I love the decor; wicker lamps, plush seating, including a few long tables, which are great for groups! Customer Service | Everyone that arrived at our table was super friendly, attentive easily, service with a smile, even though the place was super busy! While I couldn't remember everyone's name, Ryan's name was on the receipt as the server! Thanks again to everyone! Reservations Please | She's very popular! I highly recommend making reservations, unless you want to wait! If you have to wait, at least you're at the beach, walk around, look inside the shops, & maybe even put your feet in the sand! I had booked online with my card, which they request ahead of time! Los Angeles Food & Wine Event | I first tried flavorful dishes from Belles Beach House, while attending this event, solo! I enjoyed the samples and knew I would eventually dine at the restaurant! Friday Night Vibe | As part of our spontaneous girls night out, we stopped by for a bit and this place was packed! Good vibes all around and the atmosphere gets me every time, it's such a beautiful sight, very pretty place! I even saw the extended part of the restaurant that I had not seen before; the wraparound bar and more tables! Overall | She's beautiful, not only naturally glows, but forever memorable! She's Belles Beach House! Each dish arriving at our table was presented in a beautiful way, flavor upon flavor with every bite, and the atmosphere was very inviting, including excellent customer service!

When we arrived, the entrance was constantly blocked by the hostess and security chatting. One staff member told me to head to the bar to order, but security then acted like I was doing something wrong. A little communication between staff would go a long way. At the bar, I was skipped twice while waiting to order. When I pointed it out, the bartender told me to "hold on" while assisting a 3rd walk up after me. I asked if we could move to an open table with table service as there were many empty for ghe hour we had already been there and was told no because they were too busy. Fair enough, but that's exactly when management should be visible, coordinating staff and helping guests. Instead, when I spoke with a manager, the response was essentially that he was focused on the bar area. Good management oversees the entire operation, especially during peak periods. I was one of 5 people in our party who spent around $100 on food and drinks (apx $500 spent in total), yet the service was a mess. If it's self-service, that's fine...but make it clear and make it work. Instead, I was skipped at the bar while ordering, staff gave conflicting directions, and there was virtually no support once we had our food. We found ourselves constantly going back and forth to the bar for drinks, utensils, soy sauce, and anything else we needed. No one checked in, and getting help from staff or management was nearly impossible. The food was decent, but the customer experience wasn't. Venice Beach is always busy. This shouldn't come as a surprise. If you're going to market yourself as part of that vibrant community, you need the operational standards to match.

Tons of…read moredifferent okonomiyaki options, as well as omurice, takoyaki, and other classic Japanese options. The spicy GOAM with crispy noodles as the base was great, definitely not as much of a spicy flavor as I thought, as it seemed the main source was pickled jalapeños tucked into the layers. I personally am not a fan of a concentrated spicy jalapeño bite so I ended up not getting much spice. However the rest of the pancake was very good! The loaded Kaisen was indeed piled high with seafood, but I thought the flavor was a bit light in the pancake itself. The seafood did seem fresh and tender though! The hamburg omurice was absolutely delicious. Something about their demiglace sauce here was special, I'm usually not a fan but this time I ate every drop! The steak was also tender and juicy, a perfect combination with the dish as a whole. At a late lunch time (2PMish) it wasn't too busy, and service was pretty quick! The interior is casual and you can even see the chefs working. I'd definitely come back to Chinchikurin, I can't wait to try more!

I have no idea what they were thinking, but this guy was so overwhelmed. The next thing we give our order and we receive our food , my friend and I ordered the exact same thing. Mine has a minuscule amount of meat and his is loaded so the chef messed up. I started eating mine and I realize how little meat is in it and I'm just kind of laughing because my friends are so large. The waiter, so busy that we cannot get his attention to show him. He finally has time we catch his attention because he's so overwhelmed and I told him about that. He says he'll be glad to take care of it. He asked if I like some more. I said that would be nice. He goes to the kitchen and tells them and they said NO, I gave the proper amount! This was the proper portion and the Kitchen actually refused to do what the waiter asked to make things right. Just amazing. I'm sure if the owner knew how poorly this kitchen is being a run they would probably do something about it, and hopefully they read this to find out that your chef is clueless on how to take care of customers! I'm not sure what the future will bring?
