Longevity - it's what reputations and customer bases are built upon. Kappy's is "old school" - it would laugh in the face of hipsters and their pork pie hats. The subs will require further investigation; today I went for a cheeseburger, waffle fries and a vanilla shake. Indoor or outdoor seating is available. On a hot day, I chose to sit indoors and brave the air-conditioner on blast. The service was quick and the space was clean. The burger was good, nothing fancy. Shredded lettuce, tomato, and onion. Cut in half and served hot. The burger wasn't salty at all and did not taste as if it had been frozen. The fries were perfect and the shake...oh baby, so good. Not too sweet - thank goodness. I'll go back to try either the breakfast sandwich on a croissant or maybe a hot dog basket. Hmmm, "Padre's Creation" sounds very interesting. Kappy's still has game. Kappy's has been around ever since I can remember, other than ordering a take out it was so long ago I don't remember dining in. But tonight stopped with my 19 year old grandson. The place is authentic 60's ambience which is rather refreshing, some places may try to create a 60-70's look, this place is original. The extensive menu says est. 1967, and they have an reasonably priced extensive beer list. The staff was outgoing and friendly. I ordered the chicken philly sub with everything but mayonnaise, that was chicken, provolone cheese, onions, mushrooms, green and banana peppers. Not and fresh it was great. Grandson got regular philly with just beef and cheese, he loved it. We both had the seasoned fries which were terrific, Grandson said they were best he'd ever had. Inside seating is tiny about 8 short stools and a bar a midget would be comfy at. The staff were friendly and not annoying, seemed like a close knit group of 3 ladies. Sweet tea was very good All Steak sandwiches by default come with onions which gives them points automatically. They have 2 kinds of steak sandwiches, Philly(sliced steak), or Kappy(Ground Beef). Kappy's, a old joint located in Maitland right by the railroad tracks next to a 7-11. The choices are pretty average..sandwiches,hot dogs,fries and milk shake and soft drinks. I had the Philly cheese steak and it was pretty good and tasted good too. The prices are good and cheap and the food get's to you pretty quick, what I like most is that you feel like you are in the 50's with the seating and atmosphere inside, stools back from the days and in the inside you can see them cooking your food just like at Waffle house but don't get me wrong this place is nothing compared to Waffle house. The only reason I give it four stars is because they should offer more items on there menu and because there only open till 9pm instead of later so if you get the munchies at 10-11pm you are out of luck but overall it is a great place to eat and cannot wait to come back again,I Also gave it three stars because i notice the lady cooking my philly did not wear gloves when she was cooking my food and that kinda grosses me out sense i dont know where they been but i did notice she washed them before she cooked up the next orderd. This is a great greasy spoon\diner\subshop that has been open longer than I've been alive. Admittedly, I haven't been here in a few years, but I can tell you this... very little (if anything) has changed in the past 20. The cheesesteak is the best sandwich, the burgers aren't bad either. This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. Definitely a guilty pleasure. The staff is incredibly friendly and I love watching them work as I sit at the counter. The food is delicious. I always get a roast beef sandwich. And the tea is real brewed sweet tea that isn't too sweet, unlike the fake stuff that's becoming more and more prevalent. For $8.03 I also received a small order of Waffle fries and large Coke. This meal deal should have been cheaper or bigger. I imagine most of the other food is similarly tasty. I don't know that anyone would be bowled over by the food here, though it may satisfy your greasy spoon tendencies from time to time. They get points for offering sweet potato fries and thick shakes and soda floats. They lose points for charging .38 for soda refills and for having a scummy bathroom. I must pass this place a few times a week and my fiancee made us stop on Sunday. We each got the philly. It took FOREVER to get our food, and we were slated for take out. I was surprised that it took so long. My quick tip for this joint is to not run in to grab a quick lunch to take home if you have ice cream in the back of the car. The food was pretty flavor-less. I have been here a few times over the years, though I never thought to review it until my most recent visit. That was this past Saturday evening when one of my favorite local businesses, Peak Season Pops, was set up outside of Kappy's with both Serendipity Sweets and Heartsong Cookies. I mostly just was here to check out what those were offering, though I did pick up a sandwich from Kappy's, as well, since I also needed something for dinner. Since I don't like cheesesteaks, there only are a few things on Kappy's menu that I have much interest in. I decided upon the veggie sub, which had the basic vegetables (lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers, maybe pickles) on it. I ate every last bite of it, but it really wasn't all that memorable. I've had better veggie subs at Publix and even Subway. I'm sure that some of the other menu items (the cheesesteaks, for certain) on the menu here make Kappy's what it is, but the veggie sub really isn't one of them. It was rather plain, although I thought the bread was pretty good. It's hard to say if/when I'll have another sandwich here, though I am curious to try some other items. Brandi B. mentioned that the milkshakes are good, so maybe I'll stop in just for one of those sometime soon. I will be back at some point since I feel strongly about supporting as many local businesses as possible, but if I need or want a great veggie sub then I think I will look elsewhere. A run down building with sub par food - everything my family had had little to no taste (the lettuce had more taste than the meat or sauce on my sandwich!) and was just slapped together so it was a mess. I'm a big fan of little, out-of-the-way places. Not part of a chain, just good food & good people. Kappy's is about halfway there. They certainly have longevity, according to others who are from around these parts (I'm not). The shortcomings are in the amount of food you get for the price. The quality of the food was very good. I ordered the "Philly Cheesesteak Special", which consists of a cheesesteak (sirloin), small handful of waffle fries, and a large drink. No problem with the size of the drink. What should have been the highlight - the cheesesteak - was served on what looked like a small hot dog bun. Had this been the appetizer size, I would applaud. Again, the quality is good - very little fat, flavorful meat. Just not much of it. Fries - same story. Not bad for waffle fries, but not many. Made my first visit to Kappy's yesterday, and it definitely won't be my last! Food was HOT, fresh and delicious. I ordered the hot pastrami, plain (unseasoned) waffle fries, and unsweet tea. The sandwich was hot, delicious (and most importantly?) NOT fatty! I had this incarnation of a classic with provolone, and spicy mustard. The waffle fries were fresh, and the tea was not bitter. Oh, and did I mention that my food was ready before I even left the window? I ordered from the walk up window instead of going inside.
