My family made a reservation for today, party of 6. We were celebrating my son's Birthday. We got the BBQ Set for $249, that was perfect! Meats, chicken, beef, lamb chicken Caesar salad, cucumber & tomato salad, eggplant dish, breads, hummus, sauce, plus a bottle of wine. In addition we ordered a Khachapuri, that is what my son was looking forward to! The service was good, the ambiance was very peaceful, loved the colors of the restaurant. Also the person who took my reservation over the phone was also very nice and helpful. We weren't sure of the best place to park and gave some suggestions as Sundays are extremely busy in the area. 1/2 my party found parking nearby and the other 1/2 found parking at the Galleria parking structure near Bloomingdale's. Be careful in the driving structure as there are blind spots of people rounding the Corners going from level to level and it's narrow. Walking from galleria to Kara's was not far at all but we did park on the roof, found a spot near the elevator. When we got to the ground floor, we cut through In-N-Out to the street. English translation: I ordered the pot roast, but it was mostly just dry potatoes. We also ordered a pitcher of lemonade for $15, but it was filled with so much ice that when we poured it into glasses, it only made two glasses of lemonade, even though the glasses themselves were already filled with ice. I asked for a new pitcher and explained that I was willing to pay for it as long as it came without ice, but they did the same thing again. It felt like they were trying to save money at the customer's expense. In the end, our bill came to $250 for two adults and two children. The kids ate from our plates and didn't order their own meals. I think that's far too expensive for a place that can't even serve a proper pitcher of lemonade. Conveniently located across the street from the Americana and Glendale Galleria. It was my first time trying Armenian food and it did not disappoint! The chicken lula plate was amazing and I liked the caprese salad as well. The Armenian cheese plate was interesting too- the block of feta cheese was a lot but it wasn't as heavy as other feta cheese I've had and the pairing with the herbs and bread was great. It almost felt Vietnamese. Loved the watermelon-cucumber lemonade too. Service was great and the restaurant was beautiful and comfortable. No wait on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. Right across from the Americana, so you've probably walked past this spot at least once. I've actually been here before during the day with my kids, but the evening vibe feels a bit different. The live violin music that night added a really nice touch. At first I didn't even realize it was traditional Armenian cuisine because the flavors felt somewhat similar to Mediterranean food. Once I realized, it made the experience feel a little more unique. The food was great for sharing, so coming with a group and ordering family-style worked really well. They also have fun cocktails, Armenian tea, and desserts neatly displayed in clean containers, which I thought was a nice detail. Have been here multiple times, food is good, but there definitely room for improvement. This place has a history of having bad, rotten potato's. And this is not the first time I've experienced it over the years. So it's definitely not one time thing. French fries are heated from the day before. I am the biggest fan of Caucasian food. Glad to see that Karas offered Khachapuri and other Georgian/Armenian options in Glendale. I ordered to go as I had to make a flight, but I thought my to go experience was nice. The server accurately predicted how long my food was going to be prepared. I also appreciated the interior of the place - I wish I could dine in. In terms of the food, I enjoyed it despite the drive back home. The Khachapuri had a nice balance in taste. The grape leaves weren't too soggy. The chicken was cooked well. The only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because I think the prices were higher than what I expected. Karas is located right across the Americana and after many years of always walking by I finally got to try it. I've always had Armenian food like kabobs and dolma but I'm glad this place offers more than just that. Our server also made our dining experience here very enjoyable. Great vibes here and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a solid list of cocktails and wines. We got a beef in lavash and as well as the chicken BBQ plate. I've never had beef in lavash before and the flavor is delicious. It's like braised meat and it comes with cheese and other seasonings so you can make like a wrap. I had a really bad experience at Karas. I made a reservation for 7 PM on Mother's Day and arrived on time with my mom and grandmother. We waited over 20 minutes standing while being told every few minutes that our table would be ready "soon." My grandmother has difficulty standing for long periods, which made the situation even worse. What was especially frustrating was seeing empty tables right in front of us while other guests were seated before us. At that point, the reservation felt meaningless. Be extremely careful at this place. Today I came here with my girlfriend, and the server brought me a bill that was almost DOUBLE the correct amount. I checked it, confronted him, and only then the bill was corrected. He did not give a real apology. He looked nervous, started acting overly nice, and seemed like he just wanted me to leave as quickly as possible. To me, this did not feel like a simple mistake. It felt like an attempt to overcharge me and hope I would just pay without questioning it -- probably because I was with a girl and they assumed I wouldn't want to argue in front of her. I only paid the correct bill, but this experience was absolutely unacceptable. If I had not checked carefully, I could have paid almost twice what I actually owed. In my opinion, this was shady and dishonest. Customers should check every receipt here before paying. I personally would not trust this restaurant again. read more

We were walking through Glendale a few weeks ago when we passed by Karas, and right away the smell stopped us in our tracks. My wife and I looked at each other and basically decided then and there: next time we're in the area, we're eating here. Fast forward to that "next time," and right as we're walking up, we see a DJ set up outside. Totally unexpected. Turns out it was the first time they were trying something like that, and even the servers asked what we thought about it. We sat inside, so it wasn't loud or anything, but from what we saw, it added a fun, laid-back energy to the place. We went with the Family Combo #1, which honestly should be called a feast. It came with pork ribs, lamb chops, beef and chicken BBQ, beef and chicken lula kabob, fire-roasted peppers, fire-roasted potatoes, rice, hummus, ajika, and a side salad. And they don't stop there; they bring out a side of bread too. I added tzatziki because... well, why not? Everything was just solid. Tons of flavor, perfectly cooked, and there was so much food we ended up with leftovers for the next couple of days. They don't technically have a kids' menu, but they do offer pizza, so we got a cheese pizza for our daughter, and she loved it. There's also a bar if you're just looking to grab a drink, and they've got a good amount of outdoor seating too. I highly recommend ordering three dip plate because all three dips tasted great. It was my first time trying Arishta, it was good. It was way better than what I expected. Overall, food was good no complaints. It is a nice restaurant located in one of busiest areas of the Glendale within walking distance of Glendale Mall and other stores. Today we went to the Armenian restaurant "Karas" and were very pleased. I'd like to especially mention our server, Sofia, who was very attentive and courteous. She helped us choose meat-free dishes for our dietary needs, even though we were quite picky. We ordered a caprese salad and grilled vegetables with dip and some kinda Armenian tea. Everything was fresh and delicious. We especially loved the vegetables and the sauce. They also brought us a bread basket with incredibly delicious lavash. Overall, the dinner was excellent. I had seen this place on the corner across Americana 2 years ago, decided since I'm in the area to eat a late lunch with the Mrs. It was too hot outside so dined inside; not a soul until I sat my golden ass of luck down and in 20-30 minutes, there were about 25 people, your welcome, again. Very nice decor, almost tropical, with a bar and good tunes playing (top 50/ish.) Had some communication issues with our server, brought wrong dishes, but its ok because was planning to take some home for our son. So, $140 bucks bought us the following, all-in: Lule kebab plate: The beef is what we ordered, got chicken instead, they were both quite good after the beef arrived for take-home (had to try a piece even though I was stuffed). Side salad is an easy pass, not very memorable. Best to order a big salad like Greek, etc. Fries were thin and crisp and plentiful, like a center table portion for 1 side order. The chicken chunk breasts were good; all 3 dishes were moist on the inside and flavorful. The appetizer Lahmajuns at 5 bucks a pie were quite good as well; crispy and meaty, flavor on point. Highly recommend for appetizer, and the trio dip (hummus, tzatziki, red pepper sauce that was sweet and bit spicy) served with lavash wraps and traditional Armenian baked bread slices was not only great but fun to mix with the meats. Added a funky fresh citrus pitcher of lemonade, (like a grapefruit infused lemonade) and it was a fun dining experience. Many more items to try and probably will be back, if I can tolerate the madness of this area, which is about once every 3 years. See you in 2028. P.s. Great atmosphere and excellent pizza. Sitting outside and enjoying the lively street scene made the experience even more enjoyable. The location is ideal--right across from the Americana; where it's always pleasant to see people shopping, smiling, and full of energy. Our experience started a bit slowly as they were busy and it took some time to eat, but the staff later made a genuine effort to make it right and took good care of us. Michael, our server, was especially thoughtful and treated us to a complimentary fruit plate to make up for the early delay, which was a very kind gesture.
