Called yesterday and find out they are open Sunday as well. I was happy since that is the only day I'm not working. I drove from cypress in rush just to purchase a gold plate for my nephew's birthday. They stopped me at the door asking me to wear a mask. I just realized I don't have a mask. I really don't have any problem with wearing a mask. I just forget to bring my mask and when I asked the gentleman to please provide a mask for me, he said I need to go to my car and see if I have it there and he can not provide it. I didn't have any problem to pay for it. He was right. It's my problem. I forget to bring it which normally doesn't happen to me but I was really in rush. I actually don't understand the great reviews they've received. I came to have a ring repaired which they apparently outsource so I couldn't get a price right away. It took nearly one week to get a price and then I agreed to the price to have it fixed. Another several days later and absolutely no phone calls with updates since the beginning, I've had to come into the store twice to demand the return or status of my ring. Currently in store and told to wait an HOUR that my ring is ready ( where-ever it was repaired) and they will bring it to me here. " just sit and wait please. No more than an hour". I don't know what working person has an hour to spare in the middle of the day to wait on something that I feel I should have been notified of early this morning instead of having to come here and demand my ring back. Absolutely no communication between customer and client once you leave the store. If I hadn't shown up today I wouldn't know when I'd hear from them or get my ring back ... going on two weeks for a simple repair. Save yourself the time and go directly to the Jewelry Exchange building off Bellaire with multiple vendors who can do repairs and do them with a day or less turnaround Ohhh and I just asked if I could just come first thing when they open tomorrow and was informed they are closed. This was my favorite store in Houston as they do have amazing hard to find collection. Most store employees and owners are very nice people and in last year alone I have purchased significant items from them. I always felt welcomed and the staff willing to work with you to make you happy. Recently last Sunday when I was shopping there I was about to make a big purchase but the sales associates attitude was so much different and almost like never thought of. I thought of speaking to owner but didn't want to cause any issue to sales associate. But that gave me sour taste in my mouth and I took my business somewhere else. Advise to owners: do let your employees know that a customer with deep pockets is not there to steal your design by taking one single picture. I feel cheated, have been a frequent customer for 15 years but not sure now... I have been a frequent customer of Karat 22 since past 15 years. My first time, I bought a few pieces of 22K jewelry in 2005 and have returned quite a few times after that. My last purchase was 11/8th late in the evening - a beautiful 22K gold bangle with rhodium polish and a few tiny cubic zirconia (glittery stone) - with a total weight of 72.5 gm. A few things happened that just put me over the edge this time and made me write this review. First, I was influenced by CR quoting that - Today is 'Pushya Nakshatra' day which is considered auspicious for buying gold around this time, although in my opinion, there should not be no need for quoting such dates/days to culturally influence no matter who the customer is. Those dates do not mean anything to other than South Asian community. Anyways, I googled and found that it was effective until 4:59 AM that day. Second, the one which tipped me the most. Once I finalized the item, the whole transaction was rushed into. Other than total weight of bangle which is 72.5 grams and the net amount that I need to pay inclusive taxes - $6495, no other details were provided. The invoice was created right away and only have the description of bangle and the total cost and when I asked to put more details then she added the weight of the bangle, nothing else, how she came up with $6495, no clue. This indicates something very wrong here. In my opinion, the transaction need to be transparent with detail breakdown of total costs - Total weight of gold, rate of gold, tax, making charge etc... If I do the math - 72.5 grams, 22K gold rate for 11/8th showed me $57.48 per gram in Houston which comes out to be $4167.30 but I was charged even $6495. I am aware of making charges of jewelry but paying $1832.70 (I was told $495 is tax), that's ~44% for making, is just outrageous. Thirdly, weight of cubic zirconia and the bracket to hold it which is not 22K but probably 18K or less is added as part of cost which is again wrong. It should be itemized based on metal/stone used and not clubbed with cost of gold. Overall, I feel very cheated, I was charged more than it should be. They made hefty profit on this item. read more
