Delicious! After spending several months in Chiang Mai Thailand I have been searching for a Thai place that serves kao soi, and boy o boy, Karin Thai delivered! It filled my craving and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. It was very reasonably priced braised on prices nowadays and absolutely reasonable for the portion. If you haven't tried kao soi, you must! It's a northern Thai specialty (and parts of Laos make it as well), and I can guarantee will be one of your favorite dishes as well! While in town for The Western States Endurance Run, I ordered a noodle dish to go. Thai noodles are always a safe Carbo loading strategy for me the night before a long run. Alas, I was quite disappointed. The noodles were gummy and all stuck together. The heat I asked for was lacking. The veggies were mostly cabbage. Perhaps if I had dined in the restaurant and the food was fresher and eaten immediately it would have been better? Best Thai food experience EVER! My husband and I agree. Thai is one of my personal favorite cuisines. Nothing anywhere compares to the flavors I tasted tonight! I only wish I had taken photographs of the presentation! But, we were so excited when our food was served, we scooped it onto our plates and started eating... then I remembered. First of all, we entered into a busy restaurant, and were greeted and seated right away. Our server, Nu, was very pleasant. I was indecisive and asked questions. He was patient and helpful. We received our thai iced tea quickly. The appetizer we ordered was Golden Fried Tofu with a yummy peanut thai sauce on the side. We could hear and smell the aroma of fresh food being prepared nearby. The restaurant is small, and very clean. It was not loud at all, as the patrons were busy enjoying the food. All the while "to go" orders were being picked up, and it seemed nobody had to wait for their food while Nu efficiently kept busy the entire time making sure we were all happy. Soon, our table was filled with a few more dishes, all beautifully presented. Obviously fresh too! They ask how hot you want the spicy food, which is really nice. Hubby ordered Crispy Basil Chicken. We shared, of course. His came with a nice scoop and f white rice in a bowl on the side. His chicken was perfectly fried, and not dry or hard. There were orange and yellow bell peppers, basil leaves, and pretty carrot slices, plus fresh green beans. So flavorful!!! And spicy goodness. I ordered Crab Fried Rice. There was plenty of crab on top of yummy sauced rice, with green onions & other yummy things in it. I could even taste the crab! Soooo good. We noticed others around us were talking about how exceptionally great the food was on their tables, too. The servings were large, with enough leftover for lunch tomorrow. I was really excited to try this place when I saw the reviews, but it was really disappointing. I even brought my appetite, and so things should have been at least flavored with hunger, but even the mango with sticky rice was terrible. We couldn't finish any of the dishes. Maybe they had an off night? I have eaten Thai food all over, even in Thailand. Some of the dishes were a rip-off. Appetizers and dessert cost almost the same as main courses. Really! First let me say, If this restaurant was in a centralized strip mall, there would be a line out the door. Please note they are closed from 2:30pm till 4:00pm for their lunch. We wanted great Thai food so we drove from Citrus Heights to Auburn but we knew it would be worth it. It most definitely was! We walked in at 1:30 and the place had only two tables free. Within minutes, the food was at our table. Yan had the spicy seafood dish she and I had a gingery fish rice dish. The last time we ate here was on a senior citizen's bus trip back from Reno. We had to wolf down our food and board the bus. This time we had the time to enjoy it and we did. Now the ambiance is old nylon tired carpeting and the tables somehow match the brown wood paneling. Don't let the tired place fool you. It's great. The ingredients are fresh and the fool full of flavor. Go out of your way and go there! read more

I was hoping for more once they got settled. Let's be honest, we have plenty of Thai options in town and I was a big fan of Star Thai especially since they were close to home and made the best spring rolls and mixed dipping sauce! This place only had avocado rolls, $3 extra for extra peanut sauce, less then 1/3 cup. The portion sizes and staff were generous enough but the food really lacked much flavor. I ordered the Veggie medley with tofu which I get in our other restaurants and full of yummyness- this I had to buy the peanut sauce and add the hot sauce to give it any flavor. It was an expensive lunch and I probably wouldn't come back. Just not my jam even being so close to home. read more

We decided to try Karin Thai on a Sunday night, as they were actually open! Upon arriving the atmosphere warm cozy and very, very clean. We were greeted with friendly smiles. The food came super fast, we ordered: Pad Thai, Basil Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Golden Veggie Rolls. Yum, yum, yum. What a treat! Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Lots of flavor! I think this might be our new favorite Thai spot in Auburn. What makes it even better, the staff! My son got rice all over the place! This has been the site of 2 previous Thai restaurants. David's was here a long time and was excellent. Star Thai came next and it was pretty mediocre. Happy to say that KarinThai is great! Food is delicious, subtly well seasoned and service is wonderful. Ambiance is a bit lacking, but comfortable. Highly recommend. Nice rivalry for Auburn Thai Garden!
