The tacos were extremely heavy - oily, salty and spicy for everything so essentially inedible for me and kid. But somehow waitress told us these tacos were not spicy. Hygiene is another problem - there were pisss on the ground (very smelly) and dinning table were not cleaned. We ordered the Karina ceviche tostada- lots of lime tang, shrimp, cucumbers and avocado; ahi tuna tostada - same lime-y flavor as the shrimp; and ahi tuna poke tostada - a little sweet, and soy sauce, maybe salty too? The clam chowder soup was a little thin. Lots of potatoes and celery, wish there were more clams. But the flavor is good. Birria burrito was really tasty! This location is just a walk up window. This is Karina's without all the bells and whistles, so if you enjoy Karina's already but are just looking for a quick bite, this is your spot. Walk up to the window, try to decide, place your order, take a seat, and enjoy... it's that easy. Can't decide what to get? Keep it simple and go for the fried fish taco. I've had them come out with various levels of "crpispiness" but they're consistent for the most part. To simplify, it's a classic baja style fish taco that as San Diegans, we've become critical. After frequenting this spot tens of times and being burned several of those times, I felt compelled to write a review finally. Their ceviche Karina's is hit or miss, a consequence of having batched shrimp sitting in acid and rendering it tough. The ahi tuna ceviche is bright but lacks dimension intermittently. Their Baja fish tacos are fairly tasty. The thickness of the tortilla stands up well and doesn't break apart like some tacos do. At times, they're adequately sauced. When they aren't, the fattiness of the fried fish, the thick tortilla, and the dry cabbage can leave them lacking. However, the most disappointing part is how generous they used to be with their avocado. Nowadays, you get a single slice of avocado for an extra $0.75 per taco. Yes, one slice. A solitary, almost insulting slice. I gave them many chances to see if it was a fluke and it was not. I know avocado is often a premium and expect to pay for it, but not at what is practically a $10+ avocado. read more

We did GrubHub for this meal, had a few cocktails and didn't want to drive. I have to say, my wife and I were both very impressed in the quality of the ceviche, might be the best we have ever had. I ordered the Mixto, and Fish Ceviche, some Fish Tacos, and beans and rice, and it was all top quality. I was a little concerned with the fish tacos being soggy by the time they got to our boat, but they really packaged them well, and the fish was still hot when it arrived. With the amount of ceviche we got I would have liked a bigger bag of chips so you may want to keep that in mind when ordering. You order at the open window on the side of the street, they give you a number and they bring your food to you. We usually sit at Saffron next door, and they bring the items to us there. Same owners. We have eaten here a couple times a month for the last few years, popping in whenever we are in the area. My usual order is the surf and turf taco with chipotle sauce. $7.50 You get 3 shrimp typically and a decent amount of steak. Two tacos will fill you up, sometimes one. My BF likes their shrimp ceviche and their rib eye taco. I find the rib eye too bland for me. Their Lobster taco is good but not my fave. I want to try their birria taco next. To go orders hold up reasonably well but presentation on dine-in is better. They offer a side of chips and salsa with your order if you want it. read more

I would have previously rated this a 4/5, but then that grilled octopus changed my tune completely. My roommate said this was the best fish taco she's ever had in San Diego, and having had it now, I AGREE. The fish is SO light, crispy, and fluffy. In the taco, it balances well with the sauces and the other ingredients in it. The OCTOPUS taco is the real show stopper, and I've been thinking of it ever since eating it. The sauce, the way the octopus is cooked (tender, but not overly chewy, and an amazing glaze), and everything else combines into one of the best tacos I've had. A great place to stop by if you need to go to the airport, or just generally, if you want a fantastic taco (or ceviche! the tacos just outshine the ceviche for me). read more

First came here as a request for the hubs Father's day years ago. He got the special. Babe got the bacon wrapped shrimp tacos and I got the ahi poke tostada. We all loved our food except for him lol. Long ago pre-pandemic you can get the delicious ahi poke tostada piled high for only $4! Now it's almost $8 and the quality has gone down, which is really unfortunate. Only outside seating. I noticed the prices and the items were very affordable. This location had parking on the street, dining was right next door under the Wine Vault restaurant that overlooked the street, kind of like a rooftop area... We enjoyed a complimentary bag of tortilla white corn chips and salsa; as my surf and turf tacos was served with huge avocado slices, the meat was succulent with some char, the Karina's ceviche was mild on spice and the steak asada taco was my favorite with no salsa and fresh ingredients. Beers were served with a large lime wedge and all tacos came with plenty of limes, salsa, napkins and recycled silverware perfect for a picnic outside. This location is easy to get to and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The noise factor of the street, the freeway and outdoor aromatic elements were present during this time. read more

There was 3 people in line before me.No problem, right? WRONG!!! They took 30 minutes to get my order out. I had to ask for chips and salsa that was offered to others waiting. The woman passing out the food looking straight at my face smiling says, "We dont have none". When I just saw the cashier just fill the chips tray with a large plastic bin. They charged me for avocado $8.60 with my Aguachile and it wasn't included in my order. Since. I was not satisfied with the customer service I did not return to complain. I did not want to wait another 30 minutes for the side. Plus, I saw about 5 other customers return to the window and complained about getting their order wrong. In those 30 minutes waiting I observed what chaos scattered the staff was. The aguachile did not even taste well. The plate was extremely sour, like they squeezed old spoiled limes in it. The environment is disgusting as I waited for the order, my stomach hurt from the stinch of raw human urine. I looked over to the side walk and the puddles were full of urine and what appears to be used toilet paper. I use to rave about this location. I will no longer be returning. I do not recommend. I would leave 0 stars if I could. The price does not match the quality of the food, there is no customer service, the order was wrong, the wait was extreme, and the environment smells like a septic public tank. read more

Stopped here the other night for a quick meal to go. Please note if you're coming here, all surrounding parking is metered and it's hard to find parking in general. Ordered 2 tacos and in about 15 minutes it was ready. The tacos came with a delicious salsa and the chips themselves were slightly warm and had a good crunch. The tacos were unfortunately not very warm, and stuffed in the same foil so their fillings mixed together and everything got pretty mushy. I wish the fish taco had more overall flavor, from both the fish itself and the sauce. The al pastor taco was good, and I felt had a good flavor. You order at the counter and you can grab a place to sit to its left which is a Thai restaurant with outdoor seating and there's also seating to the right. Arrived here around noon and the place wasn't busy. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the umbrellas provided enough shade. I ordered from the service window, and the food was brought up to me in about 5 minutes. I ordered the grilled marlin and fish taco. The tacos were packed with plenty of fish, toppings, and flavor. San Diego in general is pricey, but I did not feel like I didn't get my money's worth. I left the eatery feeling full and satisfied. Parking is always a challenge in SD. This has become my go-to taco place when I'm driving near the airport. It consistently has some of the best tasting tacos around. I usually go for the smoked marlin or the scallops. The combination of fresh ingredients is somewhat unique-- it's slightly different than what I've found at typical mariscos with amazing flavors. 2-3 tacos are a full meal so you can try something new each time. Two stars is what I rate this place. The food wasn't even that good. This place use to be awesome, but things change I guess. The front of the area also smells like piss everywhere. I know the sidewalk isn't yours, but if that was my business I'd have that sidewalk cleaned every other day. I have several clients downtown that own restaurants and they clean their sidewalks daily.
