I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

I like the convenience of having things sent directly to my house and it's like Christmas every month! For the Little Artisan Box, I like how there are different levels of subscriptions: 1) Monthly, 3 Months, 6 Months, 1 Year 2) Small or Large Boxes (approx. $25 or $50 per box) This makes it easy to customize how long you want to commit to this program and flexible with your budget. Other perks: + Local food + Seasonal flavors + Beautiful packaging I got a few goodies from local Oakland eateries (including Oaktown Jerk and Chunky Pig) in the Oaktown Pride sample box. I would definitely consider getting a subscription for a foodie friend's birthday and/or Christmas.

Well, they have and done so in spades. The store is spotless, organized fairly intuitive to shop and staffed by friendly and helpful folks. Product selection will not compete with H-Mart nor Kukje, but who cares when the quality (and price) are far superior. Yeah, the huge restaurant in the center is a bit odd considering it's expensive, and did I mention huge? The Bakery is fire. I heart Sulppang. Ladies that work there are very nice. If you gave up on Jagalchi initially, I encourage you to give it a go and experience it again for the first time.

The ones at Kukje Supermarket taste more flavorful. This one lacks the same sesame oil aroma on the seaweed that I expect from kimbap. It also seems like they don't roll their kimbap by hand here. The rice is also a bit bland. Next, I tried the beef bibimbap. This one comes with half a container of rice underneath. The amount of meat is very little in proportion to the rice. The best part of this dish was the variety of veggies especially the bracken. There is also a packet of sesame oil buried inside, so watch out for that. The biggest problem with this dish was the rice. I'm not sure if I picked the wrong batch, but the rice tasted like it was starting to spoil, like it's been sitting outside all day. It would've been easily overlooked if you mixed all the gochujang sauce together with it. Maybe, the bibimbap should be stored in the heated or refrigerated display case instead of out in the open. I circled back to the fresh kimbap section after my meal. I saw a rat scurry across the floor and go under the display case. Another customer and I exchanged looks of belief. Now I don't feel so good about my meal I just had.

I didn't notice or experience any rude or "strange" behavior, neither from customers nor employees, otherwise it would've been one star just like all those other reviews (I rarely give five stars to businesses). Also I noticed during my brief shopping visits that other patrons at that moment were from different cultures, speaking different languages, and from different ethnic backgrounds. Truly a diverse and multicultural environment. Finally to Abigail C.: Maybe you should take your rowdy, sugar hopped-up kids to the park to play or spend more time teaching them good manners.
