I came into Karma looking for a birthday treat to give as a gift, and was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of sweets available - cupcakes and cakes, brownies, cookies, candy, and more. According to the staff working at the time, all the cupcakes are made in-house, so I brought home a decorated giant cupcake and a few regular to try. The cake itself was super fluffy and I loved the frosting... so naturally I'm going to have to go back and try more of the unique flavors offered. We popped in after learning that Sis' sweets was closed for the week and it was a great second option! They do have quite the selection and even some food options. I liked the chocolate chip cookie the best - their cupcakes are very rich and unique. They were great but you only need a few bites to feel full! I stopped in just for a cupcake and boy am I glad I did! I got the triple chocolate with a cream cheese frosting and it was delicious. Perfectly moist and the frosting was the right amount of sweet. The cake even had delicious chocolate chunks. The selection was pretty picked over at 3pm on a Saturday, and the worker behind the counter was polite. Came in on a Leavenworth block sale day. Super friendly and attentive staff. Like noticeably great. You could not ask for a better experience with them patient, happy to be there and answer any questions. This place isn't just a bakery. They have lunch items and specials too. I got loaded nachos, a mango sweet tea (amazing!) and a cupcake for $9. You cannot beat that. The nachos were as expected for a bakery and good! I was pleased. Today I'm enjoying a maple bacon cupcake and chocolate covered strawberries in the Cupcake Lounge. I couldn't resist and got a red velvet and Reese's to go too. I've eaten a lot of cupcakes in my day. Karma stacks up against San Francisco's Kara's Cupcakes or DC's Hello Cupcake. There are creative off-the-wall flavors as well as the usual carrot, chocolate and vanilla. I think what sets Karma apart is their service. Another local place with great reviews that doesn't cut the cake. This place uses cheap materials that will stain very easily. We bought cupcakes with sprinkles from them. I am not sure where they get their sprinkles, but the dye transfers immediately to anything it touches and stains. Aside from the annoyance of having to wash skin several times to get it off, the sprinkles that fell off and landed on our carpet stained the carpet almost immediately. We have bought many cupcakes over the years from places all over the country and I have never seen anything like this before. Additionally, once you strip the frosting off, which isn't great, the cupcakes taste like your basic boxed cake mix and are dry. You can get significantly better from Hyvee and possibly Walmart. The convenience isn't worth it to go here. read more

If you just want a sweet fix and are not looking for great cupcakes, this will do. I decided to try this place for the second time to develop a real opinion. It is quite underwhelming. The cake itself is just ok. As a major cupcake connoisseur, I do judge cupcakes quite critically. I eat cupcakes in every city I visit, and try to find the best. This place keeps their cupcakes in a cooler which makes the icing hard. Their cheap plastic forks don't go through without a fight. I prefer a more smooth and creamy icing that you can cut through down to the cake easily. They might do better to turn the temp of the cooler up. The plain buttercream icing is not good at all. It has no real flavor and they LOAD it on. They aren't they worst I've had, but I wouldn't recommend them and don't plan to be back. Go to Small Cakes if you want great cupcakes! read more

I have ordered cakes and walked in for sweets. In both cases, the cake is moist, flavorful, light and airy. The frosting is the perfect amount, not too sweet and a nice compliment to the cake. The variety is wide and they always have something to fit your sweet need whether it be chocolate covered strawberries, cake pops, cheesecake or cakes to go in the case. Drinks and coffee are offered which is nice for grabbing a sweet on the go. The lemon cupcake is my favorite-the sugared rim on the frosting sets off the lemon just right. It's a nice treat to have a fun bakery downtown where kids are welcome. Very thankful to have a place where the owner greets you and is very accommodating. read more
