I came here to celebrate a birthday for family members that keep kosher. I've been to a few kosher restaurants before so I understand the experience can be different. I was torn when giving an overall grade and I will explain why. I really hope the management and owners takes my comments as constructive criticism so the can improve. I read many of the reviews and unfortunately one topic kept coming up, that was that the manager was rude. Let me tell my story and you can judge for yourself. We had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon and when we walked in there was only one other table being occupied. This is a Hibachi Restaurant with family style seating. We were a party of 4 adults 3 children and a 1 year old baby.Instead of asking where we wanted to sit they stick us in a corner by a wall and worse by the swinging doors to the kitchen. After a few minutes we asked to be moved and the manager said the other table was for a "reservation". Isn't that what we had? I spoke to him and he agreed to move us. The food was good, no complaints about that. Prices, well kosher is more although I thought it was overpriced. $3 for a can of soda, $59 for rack of lamb the the size and quality you would pay half that for a better cut and appearance in a non kosher place. The price of $49 for prime rib eye was not the issue, the portion size and that it's cut up into tiny pieces is like taking a quality whiskey and then mixing it with soda or water. LIKES: I do not like to refer to people by race or religion so I apologize that I did not have names and used the following as descriptions. The Asian staff was nice, our preparer Kason made the experience fun for everyone including the children. There appeared to be a manager who was Asian and an Orthodox Jewish man who was either a manager or owner. The Asian guy was very accommodating and came over to make sure everything was good. The other man was not nice, more later. The waiters offered to take photos of the birthday,we did not have to ask. They kept the water glasses filled. DISLIKES: The Orthodox Jewish man was RUDE!! Besides the seating issue after spending almost $600 and being there 2 hours he came over and said "WE NEED THE TABLE, WE HAVE ANOTHER PARTY COMIMG IN" That was very sad as we were getting ready to leave anyway. He never came over to see how things were, when he brought over dishes we asked what the dish was at it could have been a number of dishes ordered and he had no idea??WHAT?? They rushed the process, we ordered a lot of appetizers and the cook was sent over immediately. We had to send him away until we were ready. I understand the COVID-19 pandemic limited seating capacity etc. 1. We were never told there was a time limit. 2. You would never know there were COVID issues. NO SOCIAL DISTANCING, everyone was on top of each other. No signage, no sanitizer available, no mask enforcement other than the staff wearing a mask. The place was HOT! no AC or air circulation even after we mentioned it. I would not go back for the one thing I hate most. They put a service charge on which they do not state the percentage or what it's for and still leave a tip line. I'm a good tipper and would have gone more. I decided to not leave anything additional because of the treatment. There were some good moments although I would not recommend them. So, we came here again with the family to celebrate my birthday and all seemed well. We did take a while to place our orders, but finally did. We also were waiting a bit long and noticed that none of the people seated had any chefs. Perhaps they start at a certain time? Not sure.. So finally all the chefs came out all at once and the fun began. Personally, I don't care for the theatrics of a hibachi, but the kids like it. The fire was really large and the chef did his best in broken English to be funny. He served up the food to my wife and kids and then to me. I had a different meat than they did. However, we had requested children's meal for the kids and my wife a regular portion. Unfortunately, the chef miscalculated and have my wife much less than an adult portion. When my wife mentioned it to the chef, he got the manager and once they understood the issue, the very nicely apologized for the chefs miscalculation and brought my wife more steak to make up what was missing. They did this without any fuss. They also returned a few times to make sure all was good. We were very pleased with the service. I took off a star, since I didn't enjoy my ribeye. I guess ribeye is not a good steak for Hibachi. read more

Went to the Lafayette, La location. drove an hour, they did not honor my reservations. Servicer was rude. Avoid at all cost.

The greeter was fantastic. The food was good. The chef was mediocre. He seamed to be making fun of the people sitting at the table. The prices where what to be expected at a Kosher establishment. The chef flings food at the patrons to catch in the mouth. This Chef made sure to make it so difficult to to catch it and then laughed. So when he handed the torch to us to hold while he cleaned the griddle one of us did a basic fire eating trick. After that he was down right rude. Its a shame because the food was good read more

We had a blast! When you get to the restaurant it doesn't look so big but when you go inside its much bigger. The food was good. A lot of the apps were bland or tasted weird. But The chicken potstickers were delicious! Best food of the night! We must have ordered almost everything on the menu and I was scared to see the bill but wasn't so bad. The waitresses there are amazing! My waitress was very helpful and social. The restaurant really try to get you involved. Also one of the BEST desserts I ever had was the s'mores volcano. Decided it was time to finally write a review considering my recent experience at Kasai this past motzei shabbos. Coming motzei shabbos is an extremely great idea since you can get right in! There were two tables in front of us waiting for the hibachi chef so it took a little longer then expected, but I did not notice due to my company. Yet, our amazing waiter Jason felt bad we were waiting even though we did not mind, he brought us a complementary appetizer (which I have pictured below!) The hibachi at Kasai is always delicious; a bit pricey which is why I gave it four stars instead of five, but it is kosher so it is to be expected. The hibachi chefs always keep you entertained and a plus is they offer you free saki during the "performance". If you come to Kasai; I recommend requesting Jason to be your waiter and splurging on a bottle of saki! read more

Really fun, pricey evening out. Great for a date! You sit grill-side.The show is quite lively--the chef chops vegetables and steak right on the grill, and lights up an onion with brilliant flames. Plus the food tastes great. I had a hot flavorful mushroom broth with steak slices to start and hibachi steak. My dining companions had chicken and tofu. No matter how you slice it, a great time was had by all. The steak was actually delicious and the staff was attentive and pleasant. Parking was a bear. But would definitely come again. read more

The food was great, the servers and cook were also great. It's sad to say that if you are Hispanic etc. it will feel awkward. We went for a graduation dinner, a family of 4. At first all was well after 10 minutes a family of 12 arrived as we know hibachi is a large shared space. immediately we noticed one of the family members a male was bothered that our family of 4 may I add we Hispanic was at the same space his family was seated, shared cooking space and seating. Anyway he spoke with the server stating this is a birthday party that was scheduled for 12 the server then replied yes I see there are 12 there's enough seating the man then said well we have 2 more guest coming the server said sir you stated family of 12 now your saying 2 more family members are coming the man was totally pissed that our family of 4 was seated in the same space, the man moved away from us then went over to 2 female family members and have them move over away from us also. While we were eating trying to ignore the awkwardness the family could not keep their eyes off of us we didn't even finish our food we decided to pack it up and go. This place is a "fake" restaurant that NO ONE SHOULD EVER EAT AT!! This place "appears" to be a good choice. As one of The only kosher restaurants in hibachi style, this place boasts an amazing experience. I was brought in as a guest on a Mother's Day lunch, when as we were ordering, the waiter mentions to us that because it's Mother's Day there's a $15 extra surcharge for sharing. Does that mean I can't feed my girlfriend without being charged? LOL.. it wasn't about the money, it was the principal. I definitely had the means to tell the manager and the waiter what I thought about that, considering we had made the reservation three weeks prior and no one had mentioned anything of the sort when we were waiting by the front door for our table for a half an hour. And that wasn't At all the ending of our dilemma. Because it's a small place with only five habachi tables, A reservation was at 3pm, we were only sat at 3:30. They even had the audacity to come to us WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING OUR MAIN COURSE to tell us to hurry up and finish because the table had been booked. I'm sure spending for $500 on a lunch you would expect the management to be a little bit more hospitable or show some class at the least. That is definitely not the case at this restaurant. Anyone we spoke with gave us the same runaround treatment and attitude. When we asked for dessert, they claimed there was no more "ice cream" but 20 min later, as I was leaving, I saw them bring up 3 orders of it. We will never go back here. There are way too many Kosher choices, and way too many places that offer 100 times better service than this place. This was my 4th time at Kasai and probably the best. We were seated immediately, received personal attention and everyone had a great time. Of course, the best part about Kasai is that the food is awesome. It is not cheap. The Kasai experience was as entertaining as it was tasty. We were a group of 10 people - four adults and six kids - and we were relatively comfortable around the hibachi table for 8. This isn't the kind of place you stop in for a quick bite, it's more like dinner and a show rolled into one, with reservations required. My kids had never been to a hibachi restaurant before so watching their eyes light up when the table was 'on fire' was a ton of fun, and the food that resulted was all good. As an added feature, the hibachi chefs were hilariously interactive, squirting sake at the adults and water at the kids while cracking Asian infused jokes. We ordered a bunch of apps (the chicken dumplings were ok, the sushi was very good) and five main dishes (white meat, dark meat, two rib eye steaks and the lamb) to be shared by everyone at the table, and it was sufficient - no one walked out hungry or stuffed, but feeling good. The mains come with rice mixed with fried eggs and vegetables and that really tied it all together. For desert we had a couple of orders of the chocolate melt and the lemon meringue, which was a sweet way to wind down the meal, along with the sake flight of three fruity variations. Altogether dinner at Kasai was a lot of fun, and my kids want this to become a regular stop on our semi-annual trips to NYC. read more

Went to Kasai with my wife, mom, and 10-month old son last night...the best word I can use to describe the overall experience was "meh." Food quality was excellent: appetizers (we had the tuna dumplings and the chicken gyoza) cooked - or not, as it were - to order, meat was fresh and well cooked by out chef. Veggies were fresh also. The show was iffy, possibly because our son started to cry a bit when the flame went up and I think the chef saw it. If he toned it down for that reason then it was much appreciated. Portions are small unless you order a big piece of meat. Definitely not enough veggies per person for all of us, and I was left wanting more of the excellent fried rice. The pricing is high: whoever wrote down that it was $40-50 per person was choosing the cheapest items on the menu only. The entrees average $40 by themselves, and the "special" - a t-bone that must have been 32oz. - should not cost more here than it would at Morton's in Atlantic City. For this price I expect a porterhouse. According to our waiter the lamb is no longer being ordered, so please take it off the menu. My wife was disappointed and so was I - we always look forward to trying a bit of everything on the menu if we can, but we ended up with two beef dishes. As for the waiter, maybe it was because our table was sparse but he ignored us for at least 15 minutes after we were obviously done eating. That's not good service, especially when you're trying to keep a 10-month old calm. Moral of the story: For the money spent, the value was not there. I expected to have a great experience based on the reviews here and elsewhere and I did not, nor did anyone else with me. Overall it was OK...hopefully there will be some competition in the near future so the baseline for overall quality is forced up. read more

UNBELIEVABLE!! Every part of this place is amazing! First of all, the food was DELICIOUS: The t-bone steak was incredibly tender and tasty and the smores desert was amazing!! The experience was also very unique-Marc greeted us and gave us the menu and constantly came over to make sure everything was ok-he was very nice and very professional!! Then the waiter came out and even though my table was pretty quiet at first, he got us all screaming and chanting for more! I recommend making a reservation and getting there on time (which is what we did) because the food came/was made right away! And we went for date night-ended up meeting people and having a great time! But some people might prefer to go with family or friends because of the amazing experience! Delicious meal, we were the first customers at about 9pm on a Sat night night. They knocked it out of the park, started with beef negamaki which was cooked perfectly with a sweet sauce, maybe a little overkill on sauce. Also for appetizer we ordered edamame which were well executed, on to the main course... We chose to share the special steak of the night, a "t-bone", not sure the exact cut but see my pictures, steak was delicious cooked to perfection right in front of us. No complaints, waiter mark was attentive and knew the menu well, chef (I think Evan was the name he gave us) was entertaining and a good cook. Looking forward to going back. read more

Not recommended. We made a 7:30 reservation for dinner. We arrived on time. After waiting 40 minutes, they gave away our table to a larger party. The unapologetic host just told us that we can continue waiting for another table to open up because a larger party takes precedence. He did not care that I was heavily pregnant, had hungry children with me, and had a reservation for 40 minutes earlier. We left at 8:15 frustrated, without being accommodated. The place is expensive (it'll come out to $50+ per person), and for that money there are places with much better food, so if you're not interested in the entertainment or not the type who enjoys the Hibachi experience, go somewhere else. That being said, if you are invested in having fun while getting a relatively simple dinner, it is a great choice for smaller family gatherings or double dates/group dates. Going as a couple is risky: your fun is going to heavily depend on the other people at your table. If you're stuck with 6 boring people (as is what happened to us), it'll not be as exciting. The food was good, the waiters were also very good, but the manager was rude and treated us as if he was doing us a favor by us being there. Initially, he tried to seat us next to the kitchen even though there were other tables in the center of the restaurant available. He said they were reserved, but we had made a reservation days before and hadn't been given a choice of seating. After my FIL and husband asked we were seated in the center. Soon, we saw the party that they were saving the seats for. It seems priority is given to Chassidic Jews, while the rest of us are an afterthought. Still, we ordered our food and the service was good, and the children had a good time since it was their birthday. We had to ask them to stop rushing us, after al we made a reservation to eat like people and not like animals gobbling our food. After we paid, we were having a light conversation when the manager came and point blank told us to leave because they had another reservation coming in. I'm writing this review in the hopes that they don't alienate another Jewish family simply because they don't dress or look like them. We probably won't come back here after this experience, even though the food was good, we paid for the privilege of being humiliated at the end of our meal. read more

There are 2 aspects to Kasai. First, the food. It was excellent. Tasty, with nice sized portions. Only issue was that they told us they didn't have any desserts when we were there. I can see being out of one dessert, but having none at all isn't acceptable for a restaurant. The 2nd aspect is the "show". Hibachi restaurants are known for the show you get while your food is prepared. This part was a lot of fun. The chef was funny, and both the kids and adults loved it. It is a bit pricey. I went here with my brother. We got the beef rolls as an appetizer and the hanger and prime rib steaks as the entree. The steaks were served with delicious rice and grilled vegetables. Awesome sauces for the rice and the vegetables are provided. I especially enjoyed the ginger sauce. I would recommend all the food we ordered it was very good. We also got the lemon meringue for desert which was presented nicely but was not exceptionally good, maybe average or less. We ordered a few bottles of sake which we enjoyed very much. They also shoot a much lesser quality sake into your mouth out of a diner mustard bottle. The showmanship was entertaining. For those who are not familiar with hibachi, basically your sit around an aluminum griddle where your food is cooked. The chef cooks the food with much showmanship such as lighting large fires, flipping knives, juggling fire, flipping food into diners mouths. It's quite entertaining and fun but not an every night activity. Nor is it a good idea for a quite date. The only thing about this place is it's expensive. Our bill was a tad over two hundred bucks. So not a cheap night out of that's what you are looking for. The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. Oh one more thing, if your are not familiar with sake it's served in small bottles kinda like beer bottles, so don't expect a wine bottle. read more
