Came here a few times while working up at uconn for the buffet. I gotta say multiple times my experiences were not good the chicken masala was watery tandoori chicken was really dry as well. I really enjoy the food at Kathmandu Kitchen. I felt like I should try the other local Indian restaurant before writing a review, so I did a couple months back and I can say without a doubt Kathmandu Kitchen blows away their local competition. AND they have Nepalese cuisine as well as a variety of Indian fare! I lived in central New Jersey for 3 years where I had some of the best Indian food of my life, so feel confident in my palate - Kathmandu Kitchen delivers on flavor, spiciness, and variety. They are also good with gluten-free requests. If you've never tried Nepalese or Himalayan cuisine, I suggest you give it a go, some dishes are similar to mainstream Indian flavors, but others are quite different and delightful! If you can eat gluten, Mo:mos are a delicious dumpling, the KK Chicken Chilli is a lot like a curry, and the Dal Tadka is a delicious Himalayan fried lentil dish. They also have Halal chicken (upon request), lamb, and goat, the latter is more rare in this region. Great food and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable when we asked which options were vegan. Unfortunately a number of vegetarian dishes had cream in them, but we got the tofu curry which was very good and the perfect spice level (we asked for medium). We also got a plate of the buffet which had a good selection and quality. We had to wait a few minutes to get seated since the staff seemed a bit preoccupied but they were nice otherwise. read more

My husband and I have eaten here twice. The food is delicious, staff is nice, and the restaurant is simple and clean. However, both times we've noticed how very quiet it is in the restaurant. Went here for the first time.Very authentic dishes. The momos are highly recommended (they're not too doughy: the cook makes them in the kitchen!). Everything is fresh, the paneer is firm and not gooey, nothing is overcooked. I would give it 5 stars but it is a little on the pricey side. I have not had the buffet, so I may raise my rating to 5. In terms of quality I would say it's the best South Asian food in the Storrs area by a longshot. And they stay open very late. We will return very soon. read more

Nice! We had a good dinner here tonight. My chicken tikki masala was super and I swooned over the mozzarella naan. Service was friendly and timely. The place is divided by large glass windows that separate the bar area from the dining area. We had a table in the dining area. The booths were full. The menu had many choices. Came for the lunch buffet, eager to find out whether it would be a cut above the other local offerings and was impressed with the experience. Every part of the buffet was well done. Ate here twice in the four days I was visiting Storrs! Very good food and service. We were a large group (12) and were graciously accommodated and quickly served. (And given seperate checks) The garlic nan is good, the salmon, and vegetarian currys excellent. We found the goat to be a little tough but with great flavor, lamb was good. 6 of us were looking for an Indian restaurant in the area and stumbled across Kathmandu Kitchen. What a find!!! We are very familiar with Indian food and VERY picky and there was not one dish that let us down! Great friendly service and nice ambiance. If there was one dish that stood out it must have been the chicken korma, but there was not one plate that was not great. For our group the heat of the medium was still fairly mild for most. Our only complaint is that we discovered this place the last weekend of a visit to the area, we almost went again the next night it was SO good. read more

This was the worst takeout experience I have ever had. I went to their website and hit the order online button which took me to qMenu, basically like another Grubhub. I placed my order, and it told me estimated time for takeout is 15 minutes. I got there and they were already behind on takeout orders so I sat down and waited. They were understaffed and the 2 workers there repeatedly said they don't even really work there and they just had to fill in. They clearly didn't care. I was there for 40 minutes and nobody approached me to ask what I was waiting for or if I needed help. Finally I went up to the counter just to confirm that they had my order. The worker rolled his eyes at me, then asked for my name and my order. He then asked me when I placed my order, which by then had been an hour ago, and told me it wasn't in the system. I showed him exactly how I ordered it online, to which he condescendingly and dismissively told me "I don't know what you know about the restaurant industry...." and said that it wasn't their website (which it was, it had their exact restaurant location) and that sometimes those external websites don't work. He then told me he would see if he could find my order, came back 10 minutes later and asked if I "figured it out." I asked for a refund, which he could not help me with. I then reached out to qMenu, who could not get into contact with the restaurant because nobody was answering the phones. Overall, the food miscommunication was not the main issue. It was the staff and how they treated their customers. I was polite, I didn't become a "Karen," yet I was treated like the hugest inconvenience with the most disrespect and I will never be going back. read more

He did not speak to, nor make eye contact with me or my mother for the entire meal. It was offensive. Ambiance - the restaurant was silent (you could hear a pin drop), which doesn't make for the most comfortable dining experience. Food - overall, the food was tasty. It was nothing to write home about, but it was tasty. HOWEVER, the portions are extremely small for the price. If you are going to charge $18 for what is equivalent to a cheese and vegetable dumpling, there better be more than 5 of them... What made me refuse to go back was the blatant disrespect from management toward staff, not only in front of customers, but also bringing regular, paying customers into it. Kathmandu is a refreshing and great addition to the burgeoning restaurant offerings in Storrs. The food is fresh and the service is friendly. I've tried both delivery and dine-in plus the buffet for lunch. So far, Kathmandu does not disappoint! The korma sauces--chicken or paneer--are a delicate blend of coconut and spices plus a good amount of either chicken or the paneer cheese.
