My friend ordered the chicken chow mein, beef momos, aloo gobi, plain naan, plus roti. Aloo Gobi came with rice (which wasn't super clear on the menu, so that was a nice surprise). Hands down, the chicken chow mein was the star of the night. We've had chow mein all over Jackson Heights, and somehow this was both the lightest and most flavorful version I've had. It didn't feel greasy or heavy at all, which made it hard not to love. My personal favorite was the steamed beef momos. Even though this dish can sometimes feel boring or overly oily, this version was rich, comforting, and just really well done. Honestly, I could eat a whole plate of it on its own. Some of the other dishes didn't totally wow me, but nothing was bad -- and everything paired well with roti. And yes, I'm a roti girl over naan. I had a ginger tea, my friend had a masala chai, and it honestly made for a perfect girls' night out. Service & Vibe (5/5) The vibe was cute and welcoming. When you walk in, you're greeted by a neon "Namaste" sign, and the dining room is spacious with lots of tables. They also host live music sometimes (not when we went), but they had a TV projection playing music videos, which still gave the place some energy. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. I feel lucky to have this place nearby.

I was a fan of Zhego, but as they have since closed I decided to give the Weekender a try. I should have done so sooner, as despite always enjoying my meal at Zhego, the Weekender is clearly superior. I came with a friend. He arrived before me and texted me "You're gonna think it's closed, but it's not". The restaurant was not nearly as well attended as the pool hall next door, as we were the only diners during our visit. The restaurant is clean and well decorated, and fun corny music videos for what I assume are Bhutanese pop stars play on the TV. The menu is via QR code and features helpful descriptions and photos for those experiencing this unique cuisine for the first time. Bhutan is a small country wedged between China and India and their food is most similar to that of Tibet and Nepal, but it is truly unique and all its own. The staple grain here is a red rice, similar to brown rice with a chewy texture and nutty flavor. Two of the most notable aspect of the cuisine from my observation are their use of cheese- a specific Bhutanese cheese called Datsi, and the "air dried" meats. From the research I've done, it seems that the Datsi cheese is not exported out of Bhutan by law, so this restaurant must either make their own or use a similar cheese as a substitute. Several dishes are served in a thin but flavorful cheese sauce, including the national dish, ema Datsi which consists of lightly cooked green chilis which are quite spicy to be eaten as a vegetable instead of a flavoring. We ordered a mushroom and chili combination with the cheese sauce, which tempered the heat a bit. They also have air dried pork and beef, which is similar to a jerky but the texture of the pork is really difficult for me to describe. The lean parts of the pork are quite jerky like while the fat becomes something like a dense jelly. The texture almost reminded me of membrillo weirdly. The slices of pork come stir fried in a well seasoned and spicy sauce which includes Sichuan peppercorns (called thingye in Bhutan) as well as slices of soft potato and some other vegetables. The food is not unbearably spicy but I did find myself going through a lot of water. I was blown away by the flavors of this food and I look forward to returning to try more. We ordered just these two dishes and certainly had more room at the end of the meal. The prices are very reasonable but the portions are not huge. For two diners, I would recommend ordering 3 dishes to share.

The one here consisted of: dal (a lentil stew), achaar (pickles), khursani (fresh chili peppers), nibua (lime), saag (mustard greens), a couple slices of cucumber, some curried potatoes, a yogurt chutney, stewed beans, and the chicken. In the midlde is a generous portion of bhat (rice). It was nice to sample a few different things, but anyone who has eaten South Asian food before will find it all familiar. The food is completely fresh either. The seating area is on the second floor, but I could still heard them downstairs microwaving all the various things for me. Perhaps the momos are better here?
