Easily the smallest quantities I have ever received at a restaurant, especially for takeout. Even many fine-dining restaurants serve more food than Kati Vegan Thai does. At these prices, one would at least expect outstanding taste and quality, but unfortunately everything we ordered was subpar. The flavors were mild, mediocre, and completely forgettable. Charging $20+ for what amounts to a quarter cup of rice and four tiny three‑fourths‑inch pieces of tofu is simply ridiculous. I was genuinely excited to find a vegan Thai spot in Kirkland, but this was a total disappointment from start to finish. The price might be justifiable if the food were exceptional, but it isn't. Loved their capital hill location and love a restaurant. However, here I'm knocking them stars for several reasons. First November 24 it is fall approaching winter, the restaurant was cold. How do I know it wasn't me and it was the restaurant because every single customer in there had their huge winter coat still on for the duration of their stay. Not a single customer took their coat off. Is that not an indicator of a cold restaurant? Next the food yes I love vegan food because I only eat vegan food and it's nice to go to a restaurant that is exclusively vegan. However, the portions are small given the price. As for the food it was fine, definitely not terrible. However, not great. This was my first time trying vegan Thai food, and I was genuinely excited. The appetizers were great, and the Massaman curry was delicious. But the entire experience was completely ruined by the waitress's rude and dismissive attitude. She refused to give me a larger container for my takeaway while giving my dining companions theirs, saying my meal was "too small for one." I couldn't believe how unnecessarily rude she was. It's honestly shocking that someone working in hospitality could treat guests like that. Save 30 cents, lose a customer. What a terrible way to run a business. I will never return. read more

Updating this review because this has become one of my go-to restaurants. I'm absolutely obsessed with the pho which is unlike any traditional restaurant you would go to. It's just done so well and so tasty. You have to try it It's one of the places I meet my friends to catch up and unlike me, every time they order something different because they like to try a variety of food. And they've always been very very happy with the food quality and how good it is There's only a couple of servers that work there , but they are genuinely nice and happy to help and know the menu super well. They are always there when you need them and make it a great experience I also continue to love the ambience of the restaurant. Even when they're super busy it's not loud and annoying. A cute little restaurant in the heart of Totem lake mall. We went on a weekend for lunch and got a table without a wait. My friend (who had been here a number of times) recommended the Cauliflower bombs. We ordered that and the Tofu Satay. The bombs were da bomb. It's very spicy and I could feel my sinuses being activated. The tofu satay was the perfect contrast . Tofu was grilled to perfection and there was a nice citrusy flavor of lemongrass which was amazing. The satay came with a side of peanut sauce and cuke salad. The peanut sauce was quite very average. I have had better. For the entree we ordered the Basil fried rice and Red curry. The Basil Fried Rice was good-- it was garnished with sautéed basil but I was expecting a stronger flavor from the Basil, which I didn't get. The Red curry was fantastic. It wasn't overly coconutty hence not sweet; and had the right textures and flavors. We wanted our food to be spicy but the waitress said she could only give 2 stars. She said we could sprinkle chili flakes to add more spice to our food and got us a jar. My friend (who has been here a dozen times and has had no issues ordering spicy food before) was taken aback. It's the first time I am hearing this 2-stars-only rule in a Thai restaurant. Deducting a star for this inconsistency. Good food; but nothing really spectacular. Their spicy vegan tom yum is the best soup I've ever had. The veggies are crisp and chunky and the broth was scrumptious. After moving to totem lake apartments I was exploring and saw this place for the first time. Thai vegan is probably the main or only vegan restaurants I really like because vegetables just go so well with the food. There were 4 small tables available, and we grabbed the one at the corner of the restaurant. I ordered the massaman curry for $20, roti for $5, and hubby ordered the old-style pad thai for $20. We got our food after a short wait around 7 minutes, and the curry was great. There was about 5-6 fried tofu in there with 5 small chunks of potato, and I saw some spices such as a cinnamon stick and bay leaf. It's my first time eating massaman curry, so I can't really compare it to anywhere else. However, I enjoyed the taste of it, and the aftertaste was spicy. I'd totally recommend skipping the Roti as you can easily make better ones from frozen packages from asian grocery stores. It was such a disappointment when I saw it. The best roti I've had is from Banana leaf in Vancouver, BC. I haven't found anything that's close to that.. order rice with the curry would be a better choice here. The old-style pad thai is similar to ones from other places, but it's more mushy. My husband didn't enjoy it that much, but I think it's on par with other places despite a small portion. The ambiance was great here with the décor, but the food wasn't that good and I found the price higher than what they should have been. Maybe it's the totem lake pricing, but paying $20 for curry without rice seems crazy. Came in here for a quick dinner. There was a bit of a wait, but service was not bad overall. Thai restaurants are known to be spicy, and thankfully usually allow you to adjust the spice on a 1-5 scale, but this place did not ask us which led to us having to be surprised. The pad keemao immediately caught my eye in the menu, and I did find it to be a bit bland. The portion was also a little smaller than what I anticipated from the price. The khao soi was tastier, but I still felt like it lacked flavor. I do think that being able to adjust the spice preferences would have saved these dishes. On top of that, the bowl for the khao soi was far too shallow for a soupy dish, causing us to spill a little over the edges while trying to share. I did appreciate that the Thai Teas were dairy free, but the milk they used was not mixing well with the tea and kept curdling. I do think it should be a little sweeter. The ice cream in the float was a little gritty, which is common with dairy free ice cream. On the bright side, I do think it is a cute place for photos. As for the food, I don't find it bad, but not restaurant quality nor is it worth the price. read more

We were looking to go with our vegetarian friends for dinner and have been wanting to try this vegan restaurant for a while. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines so this fit the bill. The place is located in a very popular area with lots of restaurants, stores and also a Cinemark and while parking can be hard to find, it's not that challenging to find. We went on a Saturday night at around 8.40 pm (they close at 9.30pm) and were told that there's a 20 minute wait. The restaurant is not very big so it can get hard to find seating at popular times. The menu has a good selection and a good variety of options but I was informed that they do not do any spice levels when I asked if they could make my food spicy. They did offer to give me some chilli flakes on the side to add to my food. Not my choice, but I guess I didn't have one! Our friends ordered the cauliflower bomb which was really flavorful and had a nice kick to it! Also ordered the Tom kha which was good, but quantity was much lacking for the price so was a bit disappointing. I tried the curry fried rice that my husband ordered tasted very Indian pulao not like a Thai dish at all. Flavorful, but disappointing. I have had curry fried rice at other Thai restaurants and while they have had a curry flavor to them, they do have a distinct Thai flavor which we enjoy! My son got the Kati Pho which he didn't enjoy but I thought it was pretty good considering it was vegan. My pad Thai was possibly closest to a good pad Thai and I had added garlic jackfruit (+$5) but I couldn't get it to become spicier even with the chili flakes added. As for the service, the waitress was a little cold and impatient when I asked her to make sure the soup was coming since they first brought the main course. She bluntly replied that soups take time. I was under the impression that soups are appetizers and I would expect to eat them before the entree, but I guess they just get out whatever they get ready first, not in any particular order. Both dishes were impeccably crisp and seasoned to perfection, 100% recommended also try the cauliflower bombs. Spot on texture, taste and balance. For our main course, we opted for the Massaman curry, which was delicious, although slightly heavy on the potatoes. The curry itself was so good that you couldn't help but want to savor every bite. It's finger licking good. The old style pad Thai was also a standout--not entirely traditional but definitely delightful, with well-balanced flavors and a nice assortment of veggies. They even provided spice powder on the side, which was a thoughtful touch. The Mango Delight is a must try, the hot sticky rice at the bottom, the flavor of Mango topped with coconut ice cream and when you take a little bit of everything and taste it. Perfection, this dessert cannot be compared to any other cuz it has its own unique flavors and taste. Just perfect. We also tried a few of their cocktails, which were as refreshing as they were innovative. My impression of this Thai place is No 1, the pad Thai is nasty, slimy and sour, not traditional like their menu suggests. I've been to Thailand, this is not traditional. I think I would not be this annoyed if they don't claim it's made the traditional way on the menu. This is a high expectation, big let down situation. No 2, don't trust the wait time their website tells you when you join their online waiting list. We were told by the website that our wait time is 20 mins, but it ended up to be more like 45. The menu is available on a QR code however they do have paper menus if you want. Little bit on the pricier end, you'll end up spending about $20 per person, including tax and tip. I got pad see ew which comes with tofu and if you want to switch to jackfruit that an extra charge. Looking through the menu the curry seemed pretty good too however rice was an extra 3 to 4 dollars depending on the kind that you want. We got cauliflower bombs as an appetizer which were honestly really amazing and I'd probably come back and definitely get those too. This location of Kati is the only one I have tried so far! As someone who is not vegan I was skeptical of this restaurant for a long time, unsure of how good a dish without meat could be. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious all the items we ordered were and the small, comfortable and private seating area. We did however have an issue of being charged for the wrong groups meal, and never got it refunded (only offered a gift card). Prices are a bit on the high side when considering proportion to dollar ratio. Service: wait to be seated, you will be watered and provided a small pitcher, order at the table. Service is a bit slow due to few staff. Tables were left dirty for quite some time after guests had left because all staff were tending to ToGo orders, waiting current guests, and ohone Kid Friendly: they only have 2 high chairs available. Be warned during peak hours if your little one needs to be strapped in. Fresh Rolls: refreshing veggies and great sauce but on the pricey side. There are 6 half rolls. Very satisfying if you need a veggie fix. Curries: all default spicy, no less spicy option. Classic Fried Rice: great flavoring but overpriced in my opinion. Comes with a nice helping of cucumber slivers instead of one slice like other restaurants. Pad See Ew: the collard greens is a nice touch. I am a fan of the flavoring -- authentic and not overpowering! The noodle to topping ratio is pretty even too -- I had noodles and a topping with each bite as opposed to some places where you have nothing but noodles towards the end. Mango Delight: the coconut ice cream was sweet and creamy with a shaved ice texture but the scoop is a tad on the small size. I would have preferred a bit of the coconut ice cream to go with the sticky rice. The bowl is rather deep so the photos done show just how much sticky rice is in there. The sticky rice had a nice indigo hue and had a great texture. There was a generous proportion of sweet and ripe champagne mangos. I have been to Kati before but wasn't impressed last time I ate here. However this time it was different. Everything I tried was really good. I highly recommend trying Devil's Bomb. I had satay as well which came with a peanutty sauce. But it was good too. I am generally not a big fan of pineapple fried rice but they had just enough sweetness of pineapple to balance both flavors or fried rice and pineapple. My friends ordered curry fried rice and Thai basil fried rice and they loved it too. What I didn't like about this place was the incorrectly estimated wait times. We were told we will get a table in 15 minutes. When we came back, the wait time was still 15-20 minutes. So I definitely waited over half an hour. However they compensated us with getting the food ready earlier and taking advance orders. Another thing I should point out to would be that this place is a bit on the expensive side especially if you order drinks. Drinks are overpriced. The appetizer plate size is very small however the mains have decent size. Nothing very spectacular about the ambience here. Dad is vegan so there's limited place we can dine at. There's usually a rotating few places that we frequent and unfortunately most of it died during covid, so glad to add this as an option. My vegan friend raved about this spot and this is their 2nd location so they must be doing something right. It's a nicer place in the Totem Lake shopping area, on the same street as Salt & Straw where the movie theater is but closer to the end where Silverlake Ramen is. Thai food is usually pretty safe, it is very hard to find bad Thai food in my opinion, it usually holds up pretty well as leftovers or if you get it deliver. I can't stand strong fish sauce smell so all the menu item here omits that. The photo of the garlic jackfruit sticky rice looked so pretty so I ordered it and it did not disappoint as an appetizer. We order pad kee mao and pumpkin curry, both were great and the curry was actually spicy but not to the point that you're sweating and only taste pepper. My only complaint is my Thai iced tea but it's not really anybody's fault since it's a vegan place, they used a cream substitute that does not nicely dissolve into the drink and it just wasn't as tasty as a real Thai iced tea, but great for vegans to have this as an option to still drink it! Oh man, I really enjoy Thai food and vegan Thai food strikes that smooth & satisfying foodie spot that much better. Fragrant, aromatic, cleansing, cleaning, and all-around feel-good-for-you. Variety of textures, flavors and ingredients. I've had a few things, so far: cauliflower bombs, Kati Pho, garlic jackfruit and Pad Makua. The cauli bombs I downed despite the subtle lingering heat (including the bed of crispy rice[?] noodles), the pho was wholesome, jackfruit yummy bites and stir fry eggplant was oh-so-smooth. Plenty of other ideas in mind in future visits, especially the Riceberry rice side which can take health to new heights whilst providing an awesome satiating texture. The space is modest yet modern and strikes a nice balance with soft ambience. Staff can be mixed; sometimes indifferent or friendly. Great choice in the Totem Lake area. Feedback: substitute/add alternative whole food options instead of whole faux meat products like Beyond Meat in the pho. I appreciate the perspective using it but I usually think of more pure foods at KVT. Perhaps we can see more tofu, seitan, Asian "TVP" and/or soy curls in future options. I wish the server had told us about it :) considering it was really really good, we dint mind eating similar thing. We got another appetizer garlic jackfruit and surprisingly loved the flavor of it as well. My 6yo also loved it and finished it up! The main course was equally disappointing. The fried rice was not fried well. Did not feel like it. Very disappointing. The pad see ew with pickled veggies was good, but again I wish it was fried a little more. I had a great time here! The location is clean and lovely, and there was a great vibe. The staff was also friendly and welcomed us on our way in. The concept of a vegan restaurant with amazing comfort food is so cool! As a vegetarian, it felt good knowing I could order anything and I thought the menu was really creative. The fresh rolls were pretty standard but delicious. I also got the tofu skewers with peanut sauce and loved it! My friend loved her pho as well. They also have some great cocktails and wine to pair with your meal. A few downsides- we asked for them to bring everything at once since we both wanted several dishes, but they brought one thing at a time (not even one thing per person, just one dish total) and we weren't planning to share so it was awkward. The price was also really high. It was $110 for the two of use and we each got 2 sides and a glass of wine. Seemed very expensive for what it was. We initially sat down at a 2 person table but my son wanted to sit next to me on the bench, and sat overlapping a 4 person table. I asked the server if that would be ok, and she said no I prefer you to sit at a two person table. I said that's fine and told my son we were sliding over- then she just came over and put our place settings down at the table. I said oh I thought you wanted us to move, do you still want us to (bc you're giving us table settings here)? And she said bluntly, I asked you to move twice, and you won't move, I have no choice." Never did we refuse to move. we've been here several times before and never had this type of problem. for a restaurant that has a requested tip range of 20/22/25%, this is not acceptable. the experience was humiliating and we will never be back read more

All I can say is wow!!! The experience I had at this place was mind blowing, from the atmosphere, to the quality and service. Me and my mom have been wanting to dine here for a while after seeing it open in Totem Lake and it did not disappoint. We dined around 8pm and we're quickly seated and tended to. Starting are meal with the cauliflower bombs was definitely the way to go. I don't even like cauliflower but these were amazing, super spicy and crispy a perfect start to the meal. Moving on to the main course Pad Keemao which was also exceptional and full of flavor!! I'm not even vegan but this is some of the best Thai food I've ever had. My Thai friends will not agree this is traditional Thai food, but if the flavors are this wonderful I can eat vegetarian every day. The dishes were all plant based, fresh, delicate, and delicious. This is a fantastic second location that has been added to the first Kati Vegan Thai restaurant location in South Lake Union. The interior is spacious, modern and a great place to sit and talk. The high ceilings keep the inside conversations down to a hushed level. We really enjoyed the food. Our order included the potstickers, pad Thai noodles, pad see-ew noodles, and the roti bread. The taste of these dishes were complex and refined, but unique. Though, the dishes may not be exactly what you are used to eating at Thai restaurants, just in a vegan form. But if you're looking to try something new and different, I can highly recommend dinner at Kati Vegan Thai. TL;DR: If vegan food is your jam, the food is ok. If vegan is not a necessity, there are better Thai food locally and elsewhere. I had high hopes for Kati Vegan Thai. When a restaurant is opening a second location, it's usually promising. (I have not been to the original.) But it was "just ok". The place is modern and new. I dislike chairs where the back is curved upwards so a purse strip doesn't stay in place - a pet peeve of mine that I'm campaigning all restaurants to stop buying chairs with such chair backs. The service was fine. The server isn't particularly sharp for a couple of reasons. 1. We told them three of us will split the check, but she returns with the CC device even though one of us is in the bathroom. Sure, if you want to come back again. 2. We asked for take-home boxes. She returned with box types and size that didn't make sense for the food on the table. The price is a bit steep, but I try not to overthink that given inflation and location. Parking is plentiful in the Totem Lake Village; other than surface parking, there are two garages. No reservations for parties less than 6. No issue with this. The Food: Katy Satay, $13 - 5 Stars It's very difficult to do tofu well in a dry form because tofu is about the sauce or the soup. They did an excellent marinate on the tofu, and their peanut sauce is top notch with a wonderful roasted flavor. This was my favorite dish, but also the only dish I genuinely liked. Angel Wings, $11 - 3 Stars This crispy fried oyster mushrooms dish is popular. I think it could have been better. The cut on the oyster mushroom is quite thin, so it has a shredded umbrella look. It's missing the chew of the mushroom. The pieces are too shredded so they break apart easily. The sesame flavor is relatively mild and unrecognizable. The dipping sauce is in a skinny cup so I can't enjoy it properly; need a wider cup/dish. Not impressed as I had hoped. Pad Kee Mao with tofu, $17 - 2.5 Stars The menu called it "drunken" noodles stir fried with veggies, tofu. It's not drunken noodles. If you know drunken noodles, this isn't it. It tasted ok to bland; it's missing "flair" - both seasoning and wok hei (flame cooking). Green Curry with tofu, $17 - 2 Stars (Organic purple rice, $4) Why is it so runny? Why? It's also the palest green curry I have ever seen. It's barely green; it's pale yellow with a hint of green. It also lacked flavor. I took the leftovers home and added additional green curry paste. Much better. I like they used soft tofu, not fried tofu. Thanks for that. read more
