Katie's is a wonderful little restaurant ... with friendly staff and economical prices. The food is traditional PA Dutch. The portions are not large but tasty. 2 ppl on our group ordered different chicken dinners - both dishes the chicken was dry and very bland. The grilled chicken was broiled to death with no seasonings. The parmesan chicken - same thing and the cheese wasn't melted ... however everyone else loved there meals. Everyone raves about how good the food is well I did not have that experience. Dined there last evening and did not find the food to be that great. Ordered the open faced turkey sandwich and the turkey looked and tastes like canned turkey. Nothing resembled an oven roasted turkey that I was expecting. My wife ordered the beef and buttered noodle dish and there was so much oily grease on the plate that it was not edible. We've been coming to PA for over 10 years and have always enjoyed Amish cooking from our favorite place in the Ronks area. We've had Katie's Kitchen bookmarked for awhile, but always end up going to our main place. This time, we decided to try Katie's. Katie's has a good sized parking lot and has a nice open area where there is a kids play set and a couple of picnic tables nearby. We went during the pandemic so we decided to grab some food to take away and ate it in the car. Good thing, because the place was packed and there was no social distancing inside and masks were really only worn outside. When you walk in, there is an order window for take away orders, to the left is a diner type counter set up where you face the kitchen and some chairs behind the stools where you can wait. To the right is the main dining area as well as the front cashier where you pay. You are able to purchase the bread and peanut butter that they make as well as regular food and desserts. I got the butter noodles with the beef stew and tomatoes, my husband got a chicken cheese steak and we both got additional rolls and peanut butter. I do agree that the peanut butter and rolls were really good. The rolls were fluffy and soft and the peanut butter was smooth and creamy. Turns out the peanut butter is made with like marshmallow fluff. The food, honestly, was just ok. The tomato stew was yummy, but the sweetness in it overpowered the butter noodles so it may as well have just been plain noodles. I think next time I would get the tomatoes on the side as it was good with the meat and the meat with the butter noodles alone would be good too. My husband though his cheesesteak was nowhere and the homemade chips had a weird flavor - probably the oil it was cooked in. It was not an expensive meal so I wouldn't mind coming back to try something else. read more

Another underwhelming Amish restaurant. Pros: There were ALOT of locals at the diner for breakfast, which is a good sign. Coffee was a notch above diner coffee (aka: delicious!). Menu offered a nice selection of traditional Amish fare. Stewed crackers, anybody? Cons: Slow service. I ordered scrapple and all I could taste was the cooking oil (in other words: the oil was not hot enough). For some reason Amish food tends to be bland bland bland. So happy we came across this restaurant In Lancaster. The restaurant is simple and diner-like , one side with tables and the other with a small counter for seating . We stopped in for breakfast and ordered scrambled eggs , potatoes , bacon and toast .It was absolutely delicious ! The eggs were well prepared with crisp potato slices , perfectly crispy bacon (my husband ordered sausage) it came with choice of toast , mine was homemade raisin my husband rye ! My sisters and I were heading to the Sight & Sound theatre for a show. We decided to stop off for breakfast before the show. I had the cream chipped beef with home fries. I guess the Amish people make it different than what I am use to. I did not like it at all. It was a light grey color (not creamy white) and the home fries were like home made potato chips. I like real cut up potatoes with onion, not fried potato chips for breakfast. The bagel sandwich my sister ordered was not a quality bagel at all. The meal was very expensive also. $4.50 for a glass of ice tea. So, $60 for breakfast and two of us had water. One had a hot tea and one had an ice tea. Two had bagel sandwich's, one had two fried eggs with toast and my small portion of lousy cream chipped beef was definitely not worth it. I personally would never return. I don't care how nice the Amish people are. That was just no way worth it. read more

Fourth time we have eaten breakfast at Katie's Kitchen and this time we even ate dinner there. Extremely, incredibly, delicious food. I've had there 2 eggs, home fries, and toast (all homemade from scratch) along with home made strawberry jelly. There meat omelet is HUGE as are all of their portions. This time I had the sausage gravy over home fries and homemade bread toast. Delicious!!!! Prices are very favorable as well. Now for a different kind of dinner I had the buttered noodles (homemade) with roast beef and gravy on top but here's the surprise, stewed tomatoes on top of the roast beef and gravy. WOW OH WOW!!! The sweet butter noodles with the rich salty gravy then sweet stewed tomatoes is a taste buds celebration!!! Good thing we arrived when we did, this place was hopping at around 9:30am, on Saturday. My husband and I sat at the front counter and were waited on by Ruthie. Seriously, how do these people do it? Rocking and rolling, plates of steaming breakfast platters up their arms, cranking out the bacon, homemade strawberry jam within reach, was instantly greeted with a smile and mug of freshly made coffee. Baked french toast - a dense, toothsome square of sweet bread, cinnamon, topped with sticky bun goodness, no need for syrup. We stopped by here right before a Sight and Sound Performance down the street. This was a Yelp recommendation to try Amish food. I don't know if this is authentically, but it was very good home food nonetheless. We were seated right away although most of the tables and booths were filled. Our expectations were set very high for this restaurant and naturally they were not met. Don't get me wrong here. The food was good, above average, but it wasn't great like we expected. We joined the waiting list at 2:30pm and were told 45 minutes to an hour. They called us 30 minutes later. Service was really great and our food took about 10-15 minutes to arrive. I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of mac and cheese. The meatloaf was firm and tasted good. There was a small serving of mashed potatoes with very dark gravy and the gravy had a strong taste. The mac and cheese came in a small cup and tasted good. The problem was the cheese was very liquidy and fell off the macaroni. These are small issues and overall I felt the meal was good. My wife had the wedding meal with chicken, stuffing, cooked celery, mashed potatoes and gravy. There was very little chicken in her dish and she had the same issue I had with the mashed potatoes and gravy. Overall, she did not care for her meal and left a lot of stuffing on her plate. Now for the great part. The lemon pie was delicious. If we weren't so hungry, we should have ordered three of those to split and called it a meal. read more

Being not Amish, can't tell if Amish or not. Food isn't great but not bad either. However, price is cheap. There is no reservation but you can call 10 minutes before your arrival to be added in the waitlist. Very nice staff. Bread rolls with delicious homemade peanut sauce served at the beginning of the meal. I asked if they can warm the bread for me and my request was accommodated promptly. Serving portions of our dishes were more than enough for us that we have no room for desserts. We know we will not be back anytime soon so bought a bottle of their peanut butter sauce. read more

First off, the Amish are super nice. Our waitress left us an adorable note at the back of our check and was super patient with us. She always had a smile on her face and it just made the whole experience better. Now for food, we ordered 3 entrees, one was a dinner special that was a chicken...i cant remember.. apologies but it was reallygoodin my book. A little about the special, it changes daily and weekly...I believe...or only offered on certain days of a certain week...another was the ham with baked potato and beans and the homemade meatloaf. The meatloaf was also a hit at our table. It just tasted farm fresh all around. Each entree, there is one to two sides that comes with it, which you can choose from a variety of options. We also had a cup of the cheeseburger soup? it was an interesting appetizer..yet strange. They also gave us dinner rolls with peanut butter spread that they make.
