On our way back from a trip to NC and up to MA, we decided to stop in Lancaster for some lunch and shopping. My husband and I looked for the best BBQ places in the area and landed on The BBQ Barn. A small and cute little barn sits in the corner of the plaza (on the right of Target). We ordered chicken and rib dinners with an extra pulled pork sandwich (we ordered way too much but needed to try it all!!). Dinner plates come with Cole slaw, a dinner roll, potatoes, and a whoopie pie. There is seating outside. We both agreed that the chicken may have been the best we have ever had. It was seasoned so well and perfectly cooked. The ribs came with bbq sauce on the side. There was a line, but service was quick and efficient. The grills are right in front and you can see the cooking happening! Inside the barn, I could see them rolling out fresh pretzels. They also had homemade root beer, which was very good! After we finished eating, I couldn't help but grab a vanilla ice cream cone to share with my dogs. They agree too, best soft serve ice cream we have ever had. Since getting home, we have already talked about how we need to plan a trip back to Lancaster to get more BBQ and explore the area a bit longer. read more

Important! The address listed in Yelp is wrong. The BBQ Barn is located in Lancaster on the north side of Lincoln Highway but is not visible from the road. Drive to the Target just west of the American Music Theatre and head to the far east side of the Target, driving back around the side of the building and the restaurant will be on your right. Watch for small signs directing you to the BBQ Barn. Review: Very good pulled pork sandwiches with lots of meat for a very reasonable price. Full meal is a great deal that includes three small grilled red potatoes, a small coleslaw, roll, whoopie pie, and drink for $12.50-$14.00 depending on your meat and beverage choice. They sell "homemade" root beer that I tried and it was good and tasted like the original drove in A&W root beer except it lacked carbonation. We had a sandwich plus one full meal for about $20 and left a small tip. Note that this is a casual place with outdoor seating only, similar to a food truck. Thankfully the picnic table seating is mostly in the shade. I do recommend this place for a quick lunch or dinner and noticed local Amish eating there while we had lunch. today. read more

We ordered the half chicken meals which came with cole slaw, bread, dessert and a drink (you can substitute a gourmet drink - grass tea/root beer for an extra $1). The chicken was delicious! It was really flavorful and went well with the coleslaw and bread. I would recommend getting the half chicken instead of the leg/wing because the chicken was pretty small. The staff was friendly and quick on giving us the order. We took our food and sat by the benches that are around the corner. There was shade which helped a lot during a hot summer. We only got the soft pretzels here just before they closed but I wish we had gotten more because it was so delicious! The pretzels were perfectly soft even though we ordered them at the end of the day - not like those places where the pretzels are super hard from sitting out all day. Plus they are made by a real Amish family, which is what our kids wanted to experience. I wish we had ordered more because this place was excellent! Prices were reasonable - $2.25 per pretzel or $6 for 3. Location is only a mile from Dutch Wonderland and 20 feet from Target, so very convenient! read more

I went here with the fam for a late lunch after visiting Hershey's Chocolate World. We decided to skip Smokehouse BBQ and Brews for this place and I was glad we did. We ordered the full rib dinner, half chicken, pulled pork sandwich and extra orders of coleslaw and bbq potatoes. We got their homemade lemonade and root beer. We sat down at one of the picnic tables under a tree. The pork ribs were falling off the bone and perfectly seasoned. Same for the chicken. The entire fam was satisfied. Lemonade was refreshing and had the perfect sweetness unlike other restos with their diabetes lemonades. My brother enjoyed their rootbeer as well. I tried it and it was also very good. I thought we were done after all this but then my brother decided to get the strawberry milkshake for dessert. Ah gluttony. Visiting Lancaster and enjoying a few spots. This place was literally a hole between big brand stores but it did not disappoint. Those ribs were falling off the bone. Literally in the Target parking lot you will find one of the best BBQ's you have ever had. The choices are limited to pulled pork, ribs and chicken, but these are all top-notch, and so are the potatoes that come with the meal order. The prices are very fair, and you get a generous quantity of delicious, homemade food, lovingly prepared by the family that runs the stand. My younger son and I had half the chicken, and OMG, it was juicy, well-seasoned, fall off the bone meat. Husband had ribs and older son had pulled pork. I also had a cheeseburger, this one was just OK, would not recommend it-concentrate on chicken, ribs and pulled pork. The potatoes were amazing, just like we used to make back in the old days by throwing the potatoes into an open fire. I am literally craving this food right now. read more
