I really wanted to like this small Dutch Run Kitchen but unfortunately it's food is mediocre and its owner/manager is a terrible representation of a business leader. On our trip my family got everything from Burgers to Soups to Chicken Wings. The food itself was decent. Nothing to jump up and down about just normal US Foods or Sysco style foods from a box. Where the meal really went downhill was with the Chicken Wings. Upon arriving the wings looked really good and the individual in our party dug right in. Only to find the center to be completely ice cold and under cooked. One large turn off is chicken served at a restaurant cold and not cooked. About 5 minutes later he was able to flag down the waitress. She said would you like some different wings or something else? He replied some other wings please. At this point we had all almost finished our meals and 15 minutes later when everyone was done the wings showed up. At this point he had to finish his meal after everyone was already done. I understand that this happens sometimes (even though not with chicken). What really upset us was when we got the bill and realized they charged us full price. When I asked the girl if they could take some off the bill due to the inconvenience and time spent waiting she went to the back to ask the owner/manager. Upon returning she said " He said since you ate all the wings you have to pay for them. If you ate half then you would only pay for half" This is by far the dumbest logic I have ever heard. Of course the individual ate the wings he was hungry and thats what he ordered. This is a prime example of not caring about your customers and only money. A very Greedy owner and non-caring establishment. Thanks for wasting our time Katie's and serving us cold chicken with a smile. Overall you have a lot of choices for a Pennsylvania Dutch meal in this area of Lancaster County. I would avoid this frozen food hole and go to an authentic Dutch restaurant where the establishment cares about their customers. But hey... I'm laughing as I start to write this review, because I don't know where to start. Let me start at the beginning. I lived in Delaware for most of the 1990s and probably passed this place 10 times or more on my trips to Lancaster from Newark DE on 896. Fast-forward to being a married adult with kids, my family and I were in town for Dutch Wonderland and Hershey. Our hotel provided a complimentary breakfast, but for a break from the routine, I wanted to venture out and get some authentic local food for breakfast. I'm glad we did. This place was the best. Old-school feel, awesome food, the people running it and serving it were very pleasant and nice. My 5yo son is somewhat of a picky eater, and he called his French Toast "fantastic!". (It was really good). My 2 year old daughter almost finished an adult portion pancakes. My omelette was fantastic, and my wife as recently as yesterday (3 weeks after getting home) said how good the cheese and vegetables were in her omelette. We'll be back. I am a local and I eat here often.I always bring my Philadelphia and Maryland relatives here. I always get the Rachel sandwich , and my husband get the Rueben. The soups and deserts are delicious. I love the cheeseburger soup if I am just stopping in for lunch. Sometimes, I just get a half of sandwich(tuna) and soup. The apple dumplings are warm , and one can get ice cream to melt next to one. Heavenly. My family loves all of their desserts and particularly their rolls and peanut butter spread. Their cole slaw is tasty, and their fries are home=made. My relatives love them. We always buy extras to take home. Everything is home-made and the recipes are from aunts, cousins, and all of their families. The decor is simple, but I remember what it looked liked from the previous owner. The Amish men come in for breakfast early before they go to work and sit at the counter. There are many seniors in my neighborhood who come here. We know a good bargain and a place which is very clean and friendly. Word of mouth has built this place up. Sweet waitresses who take good care of you. Very patient with those of us who are getting hard of hearing and need more time to decide while we dig out our glasses. I gave it five stars. read more

We had dinner there tonight. What a wonderful experience. Lena Rose was our server and she was very knowledgeable about the food offered and it's prep. The place was clean and the hostess and all employees we came in contact with were very pleasant. I had the chicken and stuffing special creamed celery mashed potatoes. In April, my wife and I and her family ate at Katie's while on a short vacation. The place was busy, but not overly so, and it took over five minutes for our waitress to approach us after we were seated. After another, fairly lengthy time, the waitress took our order. After a half an hour I noticed she was standing talking to the people at a nearby table. From the time I noticed she talked with them for at least 15 minutes without going back to the kitchen and checking on her orders. We were starting to watch our time because we didn't want to be late for a show to which we had tickets. Finally after a total of 45 minutes after having taken our order, I said something to her about how long it had been, so she went and checked. She brought our food, and the food that was supposed to be hot was cold, and my salad was warm. It had clearly been sitting out for sometime while she stood talking to customers in casual conversation. Before this day, I had only ever complained at a restaurant one time in my 63 years, but I complained this time about the terrible service. I won't be back. read more

I don't even know where to begin. This was the best food I had while in Lancaster for the past 4 days. It is run by a group of Amish women, and it shows. The food is incredible. I didn't hear one negative thing from my group of 6 dining. All in just under an hour, we got drinks, ordered, ate our meals, and ate our desserts. Honestly, the desserts were the best part. The entrees were yummy, but the desserts blew them out of the water. The hot dogs and the burgers were most loved in vocal response, but the chicken ranch wraps were quickly devoured, too. They have house made chips, too, but I think the fries were better. Not to mention, the homemade peanut butter that was the best I've ever had. Ever. And same with the honey mustard. As for the best part of the meal (dessert), we got 3 soft serve ice creams, a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, an apple pie, and an apple dumpling. I had a bite of all, and the dumpling was the best. Such full flavor and doughy dumpling, oh my. It was large, too, but you'll have no issue eating it all. Or atleast, I didn't. Local homemade meals at an affordable price! I got the special of the day Fish Sandwich with Chip for $5.95. It taste crispy, fresh, and filling. Unlike other Amish owned restaurants, the portion at Katie's Kitchen was just right, and not so overwhelmingly large that I get sick of the food by the end. I can't say the same about the desserts though. Most of the desserts are large enough to share between 2 or 3 people! All homemade too! I would come back again just for the dessert! I came here with party of 17 on a busy Friday afternoon. Surprisingly, the food was served in a timely fashion and the waitress was super accommodating. We did not feel rushed at all. I like how the customers consists of both locals and tourists. Only downside is the bridge construction next to the restaurant, construction + tourist traffic = no bueno! read more

My mom and I stopped at Katie's for a quick lunch on our way out of Lancaster. The food was good, but I was a little confused about the "real Amish cooking" tag line because the majority of the items on their menu were burgers, sandwiches, and wraps...which aren't really Amish. The homemade Amish stuff seemed to be specific nightly specials (like pot pie on Wednesday nights, etc.) and I was disappointed that there wasn't more of that incorporated into their everyday lunch menu. The clientele wasn't surprising, it was a bunch of senior citizens (some in wheelchairs with oxygen) and a pair of Canadian tourists... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it reflects the kind of food that's there, hotdogs and tuna salad sandwiches...meatloaf... My chicken wrap wasn't bad, and neither was the burger my mom had. I also had some cheeseburger soup, which was strange. Not strange in concept as you might expect (because I've watched my share of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives episodes) but strange in flavor; it looked and tasted like broccoli cheese soup with ground beef. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it cheeseburger soup (seriously, why were there carrots in it?!?!). Overall, while somewhat disappointing as far as the menu went, the food wasn't bad and the place was run by an adorable bunch of Amish children. I'm not sure I would go again, but I'm also typically in the mood for a lunch that isn't just a hotdog and chips. We were in the area to see Thomas the train and we didn't want to eat the concessions food, when in Lancaster you eat authentic Amish cooking and it was AMAZING! All the locals we asked told us to take ourselves to Katie's and it's only a few minutes drive from the railroad attractions so why not. The food did not disappoint! We ordered a tuna sandwich and soup combo, the meatloaf platter and the turkey dinner platter, and of course dessert but we will get to that later! The meatloaf was spectacular. They have a smoke in the sauce that really makes it pop. The homemade mashed potatoes and gravy were so good I almost died and the simple side of carrots and peas were so tasty my 3 year old wouldn't let me have any! The tuna sandwich was fresh and good but the winner on that plate was the cheeseburger soup. I don't know what's in it but it's really good, really good and perfect on a cold day like ours. The turkey platter my wife had was the half portion and she couldn't even finish it. The turkey was so good and the turkey gravy..... I want it on my everything. The desserts are always good out here and my chocolate peanut butter cake didn't disappoint. It was so moist and fresh and big I had to take half home. The apple dumpling was enormous and hot and fresh and the caramel even made it's way into my wife's coffee! So when I saw the sign "Authentic Amish Cooking", I thought I was in for a treat since I really appreciate shoo-fly pie, apple dumplings, fresh farm eggs, and other Amish tasties that can be found at the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. What a disappointment. My mom and I came to eat here before seeing Jesus at Sight and Sound, and boy oh boy, what a good choice! (Thank you, Yelp!) I ordered the half portion of the beef and tomatoes over buttered noodles, which came with a side salad and rolls. Everything was unique in its own way. The noodles were buttery and evidently homemade, the beef was tender and juicy, and the stewed tomatoes were warm and sweet. I chose the house dressing for my side salad, and I'm glad I did. (Our server described it as mayo, mustard, and sweet pickle juice.) The rolls were so soft and airy. Top them with that peanut butter spread (tastes like the filling of a peanut butter egg), and you've got ecstasy. Neither of us needed dessert, but we were eyeing up the apple dumplings with ice cream. Again, wow. The dumpling was warm, cinnamon-y, doughy comfort for the soul. The ice cream was soft and the perfect complement. As for service, the Amish were so sweet. I remember remarking to my mom that our server's smile was contagious. No true Amish Restaurant would serve terrible instant mashed potatoes and canned baked beans. I was very surprised at the food we got here and will never return. The meatloaf was nothing special, almost funky tasting. My wife did enjoy her meal of an open face turkey platter with baked potato (smart move on her part) Seems to me that their gimmick is serving everyone overly sweet peanut butter with a dinner roll (again with the roll being store bought) When you travel somewhere new for a few days you look forward to dining somewhere new and hopefully good.
