I visited this place on a Saturday. I hear so much of this place. first off, they have a valet charge, a cover charge and the service was not the best. we waited for atleast 30 minutes for our pizza, and the people next to us ordered 15 minutes before us, they didnt get there food at all. Im going to call him " the milk dug headed" waiter, he just left them, never checked back on them, but was on the dance floor frolickin. I felt bad for them, they had to go get their check from the bar. We really came for the band, but didn't know they were doing cover bands for the night. They offer $5 martini's. They pick a different one each night . Make sure you get reservations. We didn't think we needed one on a Tuesday night but the place was packed by 9pm. Luckily we arrived at 8 and were able to get good seats. If you are late, best thing to do is share a table with strangers, folks did it all night. Tuesday is improv night which is more like stand-up comedy night. They have some great acts and some not so great. Most of the acts cracked us up. Thursday they do Jam sessions and Friday/Saturday is live funk. They offer a handful of things on the menu (typical bar food such as salads and quesadilla's, wraps) However the pizza is not ordinary! We tried the Bayou Pizza that contains shrimp, tilapia , onions, peppers, a red sauce. It was spicy and peppery and very amazing. My boyfriend and I shared it and ate till we were stuffed. FYI a pizza can feed 2 hungry people or 3 who want 2 slices. Overall we had a fabulous night! The waitress was very slow but she had the whole place under control so I couldn't be mad at her. Great ambiance, nice and cozy with low level lighting (it's a basement ya'll). I am told it's perfect for Jazz since it's not meant to be very loud and in large venues it gets drowned out. Wish I could give them ten stars. The one and only drawback was getting seated when I had a reserved table. Took us a little while to get our table, but it was well worth it. This is a fun spot! Every time I've come I've had a great time. Service & food can sometimes be slow but the food is good and the waitresses & hosts are nice and working hard to take care of you. After reading reviews, it was highly suggested to make reservations. I called 6 times and left a voicemail... Finally someone answered and stated that they didn't take reservations that I need to come as early as possible. This place is very hard to find but the valet was great in directing me where to go. Once I came in the place the guy at the front was very inviting and informative... It was a Saturday night so the cover charge was 10$. I paid the covered charge, while waiting on a table (there was only 3 other ppl in there) one of the waitresses informed me that they didn't have a table for us because I didn't have a reservation. I was the first from my party and had every intention on calling them to say we would have to go somewhere else. At this point I was extremely irritated. I simply asked for my cover charge back, then everything changed. WE GOT A TABLE!! It wasn't in the best place but it wasn't horrible neither. I had the baby maker and honey bbq chicken wrap. My friends had the honey bbq chicken pizza and the juke joint. The service is ok... The music is awesome so you don't even realize if the service is bad... The DJ was good and it's an old-Atlanta vibe My co-worker and i had a great time- we just had to shout real loud over music to converse. Around 9pm a live performance began- again -- the mic was turned up- way up. Reservations here are free and encouraged. It was free the first 4 times that I went , then they charged $10 one time and then it was free the last time so I'm not sure what that's about. Kat's Cafe is on Piedmont Road and it's very easy to miss (I passed it three times). It's at the bottom of a building on the left side, right before you get to 10th street. If you're going to a planned event, it's best to get there early. Parking is free and right outside of or behind the building. I imagine it fills up quickly, so get there early if you can. I went on a Tuesday night for their free comedy show. My cheeks were hurting from laughing so much. The ambiance and decor isn't amazing; the comedians even made a joke about the exposed pipes. I like that they don't require you to purchase items. Larger clubs and even restaurants charge a cover or a minimum for comedy or live shows, even when you get "free tickets." The food and drinks were pretty good. I noticed that almost everyone had a few items and the pizzas were popular. I got two drinks and a quesadilla for less than $25. The talent and the staff are what will keep me coming back. My server was awesome, I got my food really fast and she checked on me throughout the evening. Always a good time at Kats Kafe! I had a live music itch I needed scratched so I shimmied out to Kats. Think speakeasy or underground club feel. Very easy and full of beautiful folk. Parking is barely an issue as the valet parking is free. Just leave a tip. The menu is limited but good. Pizza, quesadillas and sandwiches. I always get the chicken fajita quesadilla because they are just right every single time. Also, I'm not big on pizza. The bartenders are great at crafting my French Martini so I'm golden. Now back to Thursday night's. FREE!!!!! The best in town for no door charge. Seven, the host, may pass the offering plate a few times but it's well worth the experience. The show usually starts around 9 and ends about midnight. Standing room only after 10:30 unless someone leaves. Get there. read more

So my family and I went here Friday night in celebration of my brother-in-law's birthday. Made reservations that day, never been here before and not aware of this lounge at all. Needless to say we had an issue with being seated, we weren't happy at all, spoke to the manager Jay, he explained their policy to us, we were not made to feel welcomed in this establishment for the 1st time. After going back and forth and expressing our concern, my Bro was given a complimentary drink and Jay accommodated us and we had wonderful seats near the Live band Reci Reign, which was amazing!!! We enjoyed the music from the DJ prior to the band, my family enjoyed the drinks, food and we truly enjoyed the atmosphere. Yesterday was my first time visiting Kats. I was very surprised at my experience. It was their Thursday night open mic session. They had a live band and lots of local performers. Some of the acts were great (KIANNA) and some needed more practice (the guy with the linen suit and open toe sandals). Price: -No entry fee - The food and prices were moderately priced Atmosphere- -It is located in a small building in the back of a plaza. The building is divided into two halves. Sit in the front of the cafe if you want to listen to the band. The back half is for those who want to watch some sports games and converse. -Typical Neo-soul decor -The crowd is in between 30-65. Some of the music was a little bit before my time but I enjoyed the mixture. Parking -Free Valet Parking for tips -It shares a parking lot with four other businesses in the area, If you're looking for a hype crowd, this isn't the place. If you're looking for a laid back lounge to go on a first date, hang out after a long day at work, or even get away from the woes of adulting this is the place. My wife and I went to Kat's Sat night for some live music, a friend's daughter was performing. First thing it was extremely hot in there, I think I sweated out my liquor right after I had my drink. It got to the point I was wiping sweat off my face and arms. Our waitress was nice but overwhelmed with the amount of tables I think. It took almost 15 minutes to get a glass of water. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and my wife got the veggie pizza. I didn't really want anything from the limited menu but drinking, heat and a empty stomach doesn't go well. My wife's pizza looked like they put all the toppings on after it came out the oven and my shrimp quesadilla was good, can't mess up some cheese and shrimp right? Well my wife got a little nauseated after eating her pizza but it went away. I was home for every bit for 30 minutes and that quesadilla came up. Came to Kat's Cafe on a Tuesday night with some friends for the Comedy show. Prior to my invitation, I have never heard of this location. However, I am glad that I was invited out. Kat's is small black-owned restaurant that hosts a variety of events. From Comedy shows, to open mic night, and everything in between. The employees are joyful and helpful from the moment you walk through the door. A waitress ushered us through the doors, asked us if we had a reservation, and found us a table in the second row from the stage. We were in the perfect spot for a comedy show. After a few moments of reviewing the menu, our waitress returned to our table to ask us for our orders. I ordered a martini to enjoy as we waited for the show to begin. *Beverage: Louis Armstrong ($8.50) An Arnold Palmer inspired Martini cocktail. This drink was absolutely amazing, and it had no trace of being an alcoholic beverage. Slightly shocking, but I was pleased to sip as we watched the comedy show. *Activity: Comedy show (Free) The show began promptly at 9:00 pm. A gentleman came to the stage to introduce the hostess then the hostess appeared. These two gentlemen were hilarious. Following the hostess introduced upcoming comedians before allowing them to complete a 5 minute stand up routine. Most of the comedians were great, with the exception of one or two. However, for a free comedy show I was able to bear through the weaker comedians. Overall this restaurant/event space deserves a B+. The comedy hostess was hilarious (definitely on the rated R side), the interior was clean, the staff was friendly, the comedy show was great, and the martini was great (great price and awesome taste). Pitfalls, the inside of the building has a wall blocking the stage (however they have a television hooked up to a camera so that those in the back can see the stage) and parking can get crazy. If you can park directly in front of the door please do. If you park in the remaining parking lot you may get blocked in, because at a certain time people will start triple parking. read more

We stumbled upon this place last night after eating dinner in Midtown, and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Ms. Kat has created a bar/venue with a super cool vibe, good drinks, great service, and amazing music and entertainment. Ms. Kat herself adds a personal touch by making a point to continually speak to the guests and generally help, which, to me, adds something special to the place. I did not stay long enough to really assess the place. Let's than 15 minutes. In that short time I perceived a nice look and ambience inside. However what drove me out so fast was the loudness of the music. They had a DJ playing. This place is small, like maybe the size a great room plus dinning room in an average suburban Atl home. Say 10 square yards. Yet the DJ had the volume as if he were in a 40 square yard sized club with high ceiling packed with over 1000 people! It was way too much so I left. I was impressed. I visited on a Thursday night and it is open mike night. The local talent is not bad, accept for the severely drunk lady how got up trying to sing Tyrone. The place is small not very big. I did not have any food but they do serve food. The parking is valet and comp all you do is tip the driver. I called in advance since I was visiting and the bartender answered the phone, she was very nice. Overall I had a good time had a few beverages and enjoyed the local talent. The waitress spilled a drink on my foot and offered no napkins she said sorry and kept it moving .. we ordered drinks at the bar which took over 15 mins to come out and one of the bartenders got upset when we had a different waitress who was much friendlier and quicker to serve us ..she argued with our server and came over to our table and told us now she loses our tip and she turned around and stormed off before we even had a chance to let her know we planned on tipping everyone who served us ...instead we doubled our waitress tip and left nothing for the rude bartender.. This place is not easy to find at all. The building is hidden behind others only to be discovered by walking thru other establishments and directed by Valet. We drove by 3x and finally noticed a black faint sign hanging on the side of a building in the entranceway of what appeared to be an alleyway. As you walk in, you are greeted by the smell of TOILET. No. Not "edu toilette!" The place reeked of body fluids emitted in the restroom and now escaping from the gaps in the door. The floors have not seen a broom or mop since the establishment was opened. The bathroom of course smelled like urine at 5:15 p.m. an hour and 15 minutes after opening with 5 people in sight. This tells me, they do not take pride in the establishment's appearance to customers. Drink specials at $5---don't even bother teasing your tastebuds. I had the "Baby Maker" supposedly their signature drink and was disappointed. They might as well call it a baby soother as it's over kill with pineapple juice; a TODDLER would love it. Thankfully, it didn't have ice in it!! Nevertheless, I left it on the table to ferment. The Manager (a brotha w/locs) was the worst ever. Confrontational when patrons bring concerns to his attention. He was very nasty to me [and another patron near to me] when I complained about the lacking drink and basically told me, there's nothing he can do about it and that I'm the only person out of hundreds that is complaining about their "infamous drink." The band (Friday night) was okay, they talked more on the mic than singing the darn songs. I'm convinced they only knew the chorus to each song as they held their cellphones in their hands for reference yet, hardly used it. You try to support your brothas and sistahs but it's really challenging when they are not "people oriented" and just focused on Economic FREEDOM. Without the community frequenting and patronizing establishments they would not be in business. Many business owners fail to RESPECT their BOSSES. Who are their bosses you might ask? CUSTOMERS. If you are not open to suggestions, opinions or constructive criticisms...work in SOLITUDE. Would I ever visit again? Never. Take pride in your fruits of labor. They need to shut their doors, flip on the lights from the many switch plates that's on the wall near the bar, put on some gloves and GET TO WORK. The music was good. The wine was horrible. I ordered a Malbec and it was flat. The server went to talk to the bartender, who said that's the carbonation of the wine. Malbec isn't carbonated. If you like having something to do during the week days that doesn't include partying and getting drunk this is the place. Tuesday night is comedy night. Wednesday is open mic night for poets and commedians. My favorite night is Thursday when they have the open mic night with live jazz music. All of the talented locals come out to perform every week and once in a while you might even see a popular recording artist like Musiq Soul child or Toni Terry. The drinks are great and although they have a limited menu the food is good, my favorite is the house salad with shrimp and house dressing . I'm part of a jazz/r&b group from New York that was supposed to perform at Kat's during a tour in 2020 that was postponed because of the pandemic. For the past few months, we have been trying to reschedule our show, but Isaac treated us very unprofessionally. He told us that we had a specific date reserved on the calendar but later said it wasn't available (after we booked our travel and accommodations), promised to return our phone calls but never did, didn't respond to any voicemails and emails, and even hung up on us during our last conversation. Please be very careful and thorough if you decide to do business with them. read more
