Given how many BAD movers there are out there, it is nice to have found a good one. The rate was fair enough. I was moving a small amount of furniture from my mothers apartment on the upper west side (Lincoln Towers) to a house in Connecticut, about 90 minutes away. They arrived on time. The also did all the paperwork and COI that the building required. Packed everything neatly and got to CT. At the house, they unpacked everything where we wanted it. The three guys were polite and helpful. I gave them each a 20, hopefully that is a suitable tip. About the only ding is that they NEVER answer the phone promptly. Always get a voice mail, and it seems to loop back on itself. You press the extension of the person you want, and you get back to the main desk. But all in all, I really can not complain a bit. read more

Stay far far away - they stole a valuable computer from us. Unfortunately, we were seduced by the glowing 5-star reviews here on Yelp and hired Katz Moving for our move to a new apartment in Forest Hills. Never again, and we're telling all our friends and family to stay away as well. On the surface, everything appeared to be professional. Mischa came for a free in-home assessment, we liked what we saw, booked, moving day arrived, the men packed everything up and moved it to our new place. At the end, as we were giving them each a nice tip, the foreman, "T" offered to let us look in the truck to make sure it was empty. We're both pretty short and the truck bed stands quite a few feet off the ground. He opened the side door for us and we stood on our tip-toes, craned our necks and peeked inside - the center was empty, with huge flat cardboard boxes and blankets lining the cavernous walls. We said ok and they left. Shortly after they left, in a growing panic, we realized we couldn't find the box with our iMac. We couldn't believe this was possible. For over 6 hours, the four moving men worked together to methodically shuttle every single box, lamp, laundry basket and couch cushion to our new place. We saw them pack the computer into the truck at our old place, but we never saw them bring it to our new place. There was no way this was an accident. We also realized, with sinking hearts, that the mac COULD have been hiding behind one of those tall flat boxes we saw in the "empty" truck. We kicked ourselves for not insisting they pull down the stairs for us so we could search thoroughly. We immediately called Mischa, our sales-rep. He apologized profusely and said he'd look into it. Sadly, that was the last time Katz Moving acted professionally. From this point onward, they were elusive, cagey, slippery and impossible to reach. We filed a police report. We spent the first night in our new 95-degree apartment, without AC or an internet connection, using our phones to change all of our passwords in case the nefarious persons who stole our computer tried to access our personal information. The next day we got in touch with Kevin, the manager at Katz Moving. He bizarrely suggested that he come over with the entire moving crew to "search our apartment" in case we had missed the computer behind a particularly tall pile of boxes. My husband was at work that day, and being home by myself, I was not at all comfortable being alone in a vacant apartment with 5 well-muscled men who I had just accused of theft. Thankfully the crew were "unavailable" so Kevin came by himself. He poked around for 3 minutes and it was obvious the box wasn't there. He said they take these things very seriously (yeah right), that he would subject the men to polygraph tests (??), said he would be in touch and left. After that, I never heard from him again. I called his number and the main line almost daily and he was always "unavailable" or "out sick". The staffers who answered the phone only told us our case was still being "processed". Kevin never returned our calls, nor did anyone else from the company and it became obvious they had dropped our case. Out of options, we decided to dispute the charges with our credit card company. They left us with no recourse - the raw cost of the computer was far more than the cost of the move, and that's not considering the loss of irreplaceable and sensitive data which cannot be priced. It took about 6 months but finally the credit card company sided with us and ate the charges. One additional note. Katz Moving advertises a "stuff cam" which they says allows you to: "Watch your belongings on the truck. Watch the driver and crew in the cab. Monitor your move in real time using our on-board surveillance system on your mobile device." This turned out to be stuff and nonsense. When we asked Kevin about the truck footage, he said "that particular truck had the camera off." Surprise surprise. Things we learned: - Never trust your movers. Watch them like a hawk. - Never pack anything valuable you can't afford to lose. - If you must pack something valuable, NEVER make it obvious from the outside what that box contains. - Number every box, parcel and item you give to them and before they leave, take a detailed inventory to ensure everything has arrived on the other end. Yes, Katz Moving taught us some valuable life lessons. That doesn't change the fact that the men they employed were dishonest and, seeing an opportunity they could get away with, took advantage of us. read more

NYC has a lot of choices for movers but Katz Moving proved to be far and above the most responsive and professional company we could have found. From the beginning they handled things perfectly and set up a quick onsite estimate. By the time Dean left I had a quote in hand and a lock on the date for our move. Dean explained the services in full and how they would handle our move. Having a fixed flat rate for the move at first seems expensive but it removes all stress that I have experienced before with hourly movers and I am sure comes in at or less than others would work out to cost. Katz also handles all paper work and deposits on-line making for a simple process. A week before the move Dean confirmed that the COI's were in place for both buildings and regularly checked in with me to make sure I was ready. On the day of the move, the team was ON TIME and ready to go. They unexpectedly had to deal with a competing team for the elevator and handled it very well. The men were extremely careful and gentle with all of our things and moved very efficiently. The move in to our new place was even quicker. They dealt with our space limitations and checked in with us on where we wanted things. They were extremely patient and helpful even removing some boxes as we unpacked. We even had one old lamp base break and the team lead was very concerned about it. It was probably our fault and even then the lamp was worth very little. It just goes to show how much they cared about what they were doing. I can't recommend these guys enough. I have already contacted my building to make sure they are at the top of recommended movers. I used Katz Moving at the end of July 2012 to coordinate a somewhat complex move: my eventual roommate and I were living in separate locations at the time (I was in a 4th floor walkup, he was in an elevator building, and - to make matters worse - I needed a large, fragile wardrobe moved from a different floor in his building to our final destination). I requested the move a couple of weeks in advance, and Jon was gracious enough to take the time on a Saturday to come by my apartment and my roommate's to take an inventory of what we were moving. At this stage I appreciated both his responsiveness (I've had other movers force me to adjust my plans during the week so they could take an inventory) and his use of an iPad to note everything down (saving me the time and hassle of printing several pages and making a personal inventory like I've had to do with other movers). On the day of the move, Jon was right on time along with his extremely kind and courteous crew who took every opportunity to ask the extra question and ensure that a.) we had everything moved the way I wanted and b.) our belongings were handled with care. Although I had planned to move some of my lighter stuff (clothes, baskets, etc.) alone, Jon and his team insisted on helping out and didn't charge me extra for what ended up amounting to a couple of large boxes. Once we got to our final destination, Jon and his team were constructive in helping us get all the furniture, etc. organized and were again very careful with all of our belongings. I recently moved across the country and wish I could have used Katz Moving again (my company required I use their preferred moving company). While this other company was OK, they definitely lacked some of the care, attention to detail and personal touch that Jon and his team strive to deliver as they expand their business. As a side note, Katz Moving's commitment to being environmentally friendly and using industrial grade rubber bands is an extremely pleasant contrast to movers that typically use copious amounts of packing tape (both irritating to listen to over several hours and wasteful). While it's tempting to shop and spring for the cheapest alternative, you won't regret using Katz Moving. I found Katz Moving on Yelp, as well as a few other moving companies, and inquired online in order to get quotes for my upcoming move. I had just signed a lease, and wanted to move in as soon as possible, so I set a move date for later the same week, and requested quotes from several different companies. Katz was the only company that called back to setup a move on such short notice, and the experience couldn't have been greater. Dean called me to determine my belongings, give an accurate quote of what I'd owe, and schedule the move. He was very friendly and made the entire process a breeze. I described all of my belongings, what I had packed, and what I hadn't, and he requested a deposit over the phone. A few days later, right on time, Ray, Jelani, and Steven showed up at my Hoboken apartment to begin the move. I was shocked at how quickly they were able to carefully pack and transfer my belongings to the moving truck outside. They were very friendly throughout the entire process and listened carefully to any requests I made throughout. At my new Apartment in NY, they were quick to unload the truck and carry all of my belongings up the stairs and into the locations I specified. My company recently transferred me from NYC to DC and I was truly thrilled with my moving experience thanks to the great team at Katz. My company wanted me to use one of the "we deliver a storage unit to you and you fill it up" moving companies, which was clearly not going to work in either city. Katz's pricing was not the lowest, but it wasn't the highest either, and was cheaper than the people my company recommended. Instead of a "move yourself" experience, we had the loading, driving and unloading of our 30 boxes and assorted furnishings handled by experienced professionals. We had a very narrow reservation for use of the loading dock and elevator in my new building, so Dean arranged for the team to arrive at my apartment first thing in the morning on a Saturday to load the boxes, then head out on the drive to DC. He took the time to understand our specific needs and concerns, to answer questions and to book everything without any hassle. My wife and I raced ahead in a rental car and, when we arrived, the team was ready to quickly unload. Before we knew it, they'd finished offloading and we were able to start unpacking our boxes in the new place. The entire team was prompt, courteous and efficient. Katz Moving moved us to our new apartment in UES last weekend... and it was the best possible experience I could have hoped for. Neither my boyfriend nor I had ever used professional movers before - but we were moving a 1-bedroom house's worth of stuff from a pod in Rockland County to a 5th floor walk-up in UES, after moving across the country, and we did not want to move everything up those stairs. I totally would have broken all the walls in the stairwell, and probably half our stuff. After great experiences with the company in the past, I used Katz to move across states and they damaged every piece of furniture we own. Basically, they piled everything so haphazardly in the trailer that it all moved and scraped against each other. In addition, the foreman of the crew said some very inappropriate racist things that made me uncomfortable. The owner only offered us one level of insurance, which, needless to say, does not cover the cost of our possessions. In fact, the owner has yet to even give us the small amount that is covered by the insurance. Before writing this we reached out to the owner multiple times to try to come to a resolution, but he never returned our phone calls. read more

Couldn't have experienced an easier move!!! I finished a large move today and went with Katz on the glowing advice of my brother - he had said that the value, timeliness and overall experience was amazing. Since he is generally extremely hard to please so I decided to go with them. He was not wrong. The whole experience- from the quote, initial contact and payment mechanism prior to moving was seamless. On the actual moving day the guys (jermaine and jalanie) were two of the nicest, most polite, friendly and professional movers I have ever met. In the days before my scheduled move, Joe was consistently responsive to any questions I had or updates to my moving inventory, and always prompt with sending an updated quote. I was moving from the Financial District to a one bedroom in Midtown East. The team of guys I had on moving day was Peter, James, and Jonathan. All three were remarkably efficient, careful, and hardworking. They got all of my boxes and furniture wrapped up and loaded quickly and were just as diligent with unloading at my new apartment. My sales rep Kiko was responsive and helpful, got me priced for exactly the service I needed, and even offered to match competitors' quotes. On moving day, Vlad and his crew were very efficient, careful, and professional. There were truck issues which delayed the arrival, however once they got there they made sure everything was taken care of. You can tell this is a company that keeps its employees happy because it was obvious how experienced everyone was. Writing this review about 2 months after my actual move because I'm a major procrastinator. I had a last minute move in December and contacted several moving companies less than 2 days before my anticipated move. I was moving about 20 blocks in the UWS from a building with elevator to a 2nd floor walk up. Katz Moving gave me the best deal of the 5 or so last minute quotes I received. Frank talked me through the moving process and the estimate, what to expect, etc. Initially, they had another move earlier in the day, so they scheduled me for a 4 hour move on a Thursday afternoon. However, the next day (1 day before move), they called me and said that they were able to do Thursday morning, which worked perfectly for me. The movers Daniil and Dominic showed up within the time window and were very quick with moving out my furniture and oddly shaped items. They wrapped up my cheap IKEA furniture and everything arrived to my new apartment safely! I was a little freaked out because this was my first time moving alone and hiring a company, but they kept reassuring me that everything would be fine (including my very fragile plants) and that I should just relax. They were: A) on time, B) friendly yet ready to work and C) an amazing team that work great together. I was then told to send an inventory list so they could know what i was moving. I sent it and got no response. A few days goes by and still no response. He and Katz also took over the "statement of insurance" process for both our new and old building which took away a complicated step for us which was great. They wrapped everything, disassembled furniture that needed it, and made sure that everything got out of our apartment. I had a terrible experience with these guys when they moved us at the end of 2018, which was especially disappointing given the positive reviews. They underestimated both the manpower and the supplies needed for our 1 day move-out which turned it into a 2 day move, unnecessarily, and with great inconvenience. Then, in the move, they damaged a $500 coffee table and a $9,000 terrace umbrella, and not only were they unresponsive and unapologetic about the damages; they paid an offensively minuscule reimbursement amount, claiming I declined the incremental damage insurance, which I can say with 100% certainty was never once offered. Don't be fooled by the friendly sales guy they send out to provide the estimate and convince you you'll get their best people and full attention. These guys lack organization, pride and worst of all integrity. I would not recommend them to anyone who owns anything of value. read more

I really cannot say enough good things about this moving experience! Franklyn, Vincent and Jermaine were AWESOME. First of all, I called on Wednesday about a Saturday move - they were even willing to do Friday. They first quoted me a very reasonable price on a move, as time came closer we requested pricing for them to pack AND move. This was also a fair quote, so we went with it. THEY DID SO AWESOME!! I HATE moving, because it stresses me out in every way possible. They showed up promptly at 10 am. I've never seen things packed so quickly and securely. Also, all furniture disassembled and reassembled at the next apartment. I moved form Upper East to Weehawken, NJ with not a single thing packed and they worked from 10 am - 4pm and it was all completely done and everything reassembled when they left. This is the moving company that is worth hiring. Great service from the beginning when I signed up to get a quote, to the end when they dropped off all my things. Daniel, Frankie and E worked with such great attitudes and professionalism, it made the stressful moving day so much better. My wife and I needed serious moving help and Katz Moving made it so easy! From the day I called, Ashton was there that same weekend to give me an in-home estimate. And, let me tell you, his estimate and guesstimate were on-point! We didn't even pack yet and he assumed we would have 25 boxes (we had 26!). Dwayne, Josh and James were professional and on time! The crew was fast and efficient. We were out of the apartment in 2-2.5 hours and on our way to our new destination. While it was out of my control, we (all of us) encountered confrontation but Dwayne, Josh, and James were able to diffuse the situation like zen masters! Both, the crazy neighbor that has a vendetta against my ex-landlord AND the UPS truck that tried to run me over were subdued by DJJ's professionalism and courtesy. Here's the amazing part...they took apart our Ikea bed frame and put it back together! AND IT'S SOLID. It doesn't creak or shake. These guys know what they're doing!
