Wow, I had such a great time clay shooting with my wife. Prior to our trip to Kauai, she hadn't even shot a gun before. Initially, the plan was for her to tag along to watch and maybe take some photos. Jade convinced her to give it a try and to my surprise she agreed! We both picked out our shotguns and took the Sports Clays intro - which I'd highly recommend. I've gone clay shooting back home a few times but this intro really helped my game. Jade was able to find a few flaws and greatly increased my shooting accuracy. I'd highly recommend checking these folks out on your trip! read more

I had never fired a shotgun before, but was always interested since I shoot rifles and pistols. I took a lesson and they started with a safety review which was great so we'd all be on the same page. I was the only person at the range that morning, so we had it all to ourselves. The lesson took about 40 minutes total. The instructor was very friendly and informative. He made it fun and interesting, and I felt by the end that I had a good knowledge of what I was supposed to be doing, even if I didn't always do it. I was able to hit about half of the targets that are sent out from various positions in the field. That seemed pretty good to me since I am a total rookie. Credit definitely goes to the instructor! I'd say the worst part of the experience was just finding the place. Google Maps and the others that we tried, all failed. To get there, take Kuhio Hwy to Lihue, and then go north on Hwy 583. Go about 1 or 2 miles up and you'll see a cemetery on your right. Just past that, you'll see a turn off on the left. I think it says something about the gun club. Continue down that road, past the sign that says keep out, and go for another quarter mile or so. You'll see the range on your right. You MUST have reservations, or it seems like no one will be there. The gate was closed and locked when we arrived. I called and left a message, then someone came and unlocked the gate, even though we were there at our reservation time. The communication with them was poor in terms of sending out any kind of reservation confirmation, emailing a reminder, etc. They are also hard to get ahold of on the phone. Final cost for the lesson was just over $200. I think that's a bit steep for a 40 minute lesson. I took 1 Star off for that. I would have been more comfortable in the $125 range, but that's just me. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would recommend it. Make sure to make a reservation! read more

I've been clay shooting several times and my son has never been. I've always found it frustrating. The instructor started me shooting left handed because of my eye dominance. He was patient with both of us and we had an extraordinary time. He was also a lot of fun. We will definitely come back next time we are in Kauai. If you never tried clay shooting you have to go to Kauai Clay. Ben and his fiance are very knowledgeable. We originally booked the experienced shooters plan but after missing 5 shots in a row we opted to take Ben's offer and upgrade to the Intro which comes with personal training and we started bust um in the air. I highly recommend that if you never shoot before to take the beginners lesson and I promise you will have a blast. I will definitely be back the next time I'm on Kauai. read more

We came here for "part one" of a close friend of ours bachelor party. I can't tell you much about "part two" but I can tell you that this trip was super fun and everyone involved couldn't wait to come back! Kauai Eco Sporting Clays is located up the ways from the turn off of the highway as you head to Wailua Falls by the Old Kapaia Stitchery; you can easily google map the location- even though its remote, its very easy to find. We had the whole place to ourselves. Im not sure if thats how it was planned or it was just a slow day because of the rain. I think the basic package we did was 50 cartridges (2 rounds @ 25 shells/round) plus the rental of a nice Browning 12 gauge shotgun. All in all with the kama'aina discount it was $80 cash, closer to $90 if you pay with a credit card. I'm pretty sure there is a smaller 20 gauge available for kids and women. We competed against each other shooting 5 rounds of 5 shells in both single and double target rounds. The clay flies from all over the course which makes it fun and challenging as we found out some locations were much harder to shoot than others! Ben switches up the target locations evenly so everyone shoots exactly the same amount of targets from the different locations. Like the other reviews I've read stated owner/operator Ben Ellsworth is a genuinely solid, funny and down to earth kind of guy who made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. He knew we were a bunch of young local boys and you could tell he was comfortable 'hangin loose" with us while still giving us all the safety and shooting lessons we needed in a professional way. Almost anyone would have a blast doing this! Even if you don't like guns or don't like loud noises- I think the feeling of blowing one of these clay discs out of the sky brings a certain satisfaction that only a big gun and shotgun shells can bring! read more

Beyond awesome!!!!!!!!!! First off. They have a course that keeps even the best shooters entertained and on the edge of their seat. I've shot clays on land and at sea. I will say. They gave me a run for my money well spent. Secondly. My 11 year old nephew was nervous he's a smart young kid. I've talked him into many things. While my nephew was nervous, the adults shot, then the crew , they turned eyes to him. I have amazing video of a world class instructor working with my nephew The amount of guidance this team is offering is worth every penny. And frankly will be my biggest memory of Kauai. So happy we saw this place on our drive up to one of the waterfalls. Small operation we were there mid week. Husband and wife running the place both there. I felt the prices being on the island were great and a really good value for an island that overall is so pricey. We were given options of lessons or just go ahead and shoot. It always a funny thing in the firearms world. Some people want to tell you how great they are some want to be respectful of other peoples ranges to the point that they don't really mention they can shoot. We chose the option to each just shoot a round. He took the time and expense to throw each bird from each position so we knew already where they would be coming from. We had a great time and wish we had more time to shoot another round or two that day. Shooting clays on Kauai, say what?! Of all the things this island has to offer I did not expect to visit a gun range for sure! But I'm so glad I kept my options open. Reading the various five-star reviews about this place just made us even more curious to try it out. My sister had very little experience shooting years ago and my friend and I were complete noobs. But all our fears were diminished after walking away from what I'd say was one of the best things we did on the island. Ben (the owner) and Miguel (our instructor) were both very friendly and personable. From holding the guns to aiming to shooting them, they made us comfortable throughout. In our hour-half session, we gradually "graduated" to different levels of shooting with a backdrop of greenery and cows (no they weren't hurt). This experience was amazing the owner Ben was awesome while checking in. Jonathan came in while we were signing paperwork to have Ben help his other shooters in the "kiddy pool" so they wouldn't waste their ammo. That was great to see, it showed that they wanted their customers to get the most out of their stay there. Originally my husband was the only one that was going to shoot but somehow my husband convinced me to do it too. But both Ben and Jonathan said that women are usually better than men. And I knew i had to try. Jonathan was a great instructor. He walked us through everything and he was also hilarious! He let my husband use "his" beretta shotgun. It really wasn't his personal gun but he said that he rarely lets people use that specific gun. I thought that was cool. I had a blast and of course I did better than my husband. after my experience here my husband and I are going back home and going to get into shooting clays. Highlight of the trip. Great 1 hour lesson on shooting clays, over 20 shots, and friendly competition. You'll likely come in here a bit nervous at first, but with the given lessons and safety, you'll walk away wanting to come back and compete! They hosted 2 pairs of us and were diligent on time. The lesson was very productive and encouraging. The way they instruct makes you feel at ease. They also provide you water and soda, which is a plus given the humid weather. Our week on Kauai was rough seas and over cast with lots of rain so we needed to get creative with activities for our college student on Spring Break as all the activities we'd per-booked got cancelled. On a pouring day with flash flood warnings we scheduled the afternoon with Ben. My daughter and husband had minimal shooting experience and I had none. Ben had us all hitting clays fairly quickly and by the end of our 25 round lesson both my husband and daughter were. able to hit two clays at a time. Ben is a great instructor and kept us entertained and having fun while learning a lot. He met us at our car with big umbrellas and his covered shooting area gave us the opportunity to be out in the down pour yet stay dry. We had been up to the falls earlier in the week on an overcast day, so after shooting we continued on up the road to witness the intense deluge of water coming down the mountain. Wow! This was so much fun. We had zero shooting experience before booking this activity and yet with the owner's patience and specific one on one teaching, we both hit many targets. It is just 15 minutes from Līhue. We booked for 10am so we had plenty of time for the beach afterward. I would definitely highly recommend this activity and it's friendly owners for anyone who has never shot a gun. No judgements and total personal respect. Our family went and shot with Ben yesterday and had such a great time! If we could give more than 5 stars we definitely would. We were all beginners and most had never even touched a gun and Ben was great in terms of explaining, making you feel safe and ensuring you have a fun and relaxed time. If you are hesitant or nervous but have always been curious about shooting, Kauai clays is the place to try! If you are advanced, Ben is an incredible coach and it is obvious that his experience and expertise in the field would be hugely helpful to even the most experienced shooter. Recommended for experts and first timers alike. We went there while on our honeymoon - was a great experience. My wife had never fired a gun, and I've only been clay shooting a few times. Instructor was great, made the wife very comfortable (she was nervous) and made natural adjustments to the 'technique' I had picked up in my limited experience. Apparently, I'm a lefty with a shotgun. Anyway, included more than enough shells to practice and hit the targets (a bit less than half of the total 25) for absolute beginners, along with some more complex combos at the end. The wife really enjoyed her first experience with a gun and wants to try again soon, and I picked up excellent pointers for shooting I may do in the future. Ben the owner is a hoot and a half! We randomly drove by Kaua'i Clays on the way to Wailua Falls and decided to give it a shot (ha- get it?) as we'd both always wanted to try out clay shooting. It sounds like a really off the beaten path and random thing to try on an "island vaca" but my friend and I both had SUCH a fun time learning to shoot! The online booking process is so quick, convenient and easy. The biggest thing that stood out is that they really care, very knowledgable and are super accommodating. My gf (who weighs 100 lbs) and I had no experience whatsoever. But they took the time to teach us safety and how to shoot. And they are not just going to show u how to shoot, but will tell you why you are missing and what to focus or improve on to get better. Of course it is all in fun and very non intimidating, but when we actually made the changes they told us to do, we actually was hitting targets! Also, we are from honolulu and they do have kamaaina discount and also cater very nicely to locals as well. I had so much fun the first time that I came back the next week to shoot again. Owners Ben and Andrea are a great couple. Ben was very informative about gun safety and control. Very helpful, giving me tips about holding my gun and my stance. Gotta remember to lean forward. First week I only shot 6 out of 25, following week with some tips from Ben, it helped me double my score to 12 out of 25. Can't wait to go back and shoot some more. My husband and I are here on our honeymoon. We're two pretty active people, so we spent our first week in Kauai hiking, biking, snorkeling, and went SCUBA diving. But for a break, on a whim I Googled "things to do in Kauai". I am so glad I did! We made same day reservations to meet Ben for a lesson (yes, his hunting hound Zeke slept under the porch). We did indeed have a "blast" as promised. Ben is an excellent teacher, and a personable guy. My husband has more experience with guns and shooting than I do, but we both opted for a lesson as neither of us had experience shooting clays (just stationary targets). So glad we did! It was a great learning experience. Ben's teaching style of pausing to insert anecdotes and small stories gives your brain time to process the information and lessons; he really knows what he's doing, and he shows a true passion for teaching beginners, too! You get either a 20 or 12 gauge shotgun (both of us got 20-gauge shotguns), plus a 25-count box of shells. My shotgun was a semi-automatic; my husbands was an over-under. You start in the "kiddie pool": a shooting box with the slowest and easiest clay disks first. You practice "shooting" the disks with your finger first, just to learn about target acquisition, and then work on actually breaking the disk with your shot. Once you get that, then you move on to other boxes, and other clay dispensers, which are faster and at other angles. Some are quite challenging. It's great! We did it for an hour and a half, but you can purchase more shot, and more time. The setting is nice: away from touristy stuff, set back from the main road. It's kind of amusing to be shooting towards a pasture of cattle (I realize they are used to the sounds of shotguns going off, and as Ben pointed out even if something hit them, it would be like a well-thrown pebble at that distance). Ben is all about safety first. He gives you a thorough run-down on safety checks, and emphasizes it at all times. He's also about having fun, and learning a new skill. I will most definitely be spreading the word far and wide about this great business, and this great teacher. I hope many more people come here and do this as a super fun activity, especially tourists as a way to support the local economy. Definitely not the run of the mill tourist activity!! read more
