I called this Company to look at what was going on with my 11 Yrs. old Side by Side Samsung Refrigerator where the freezer section was not keeping the food frozen. Frozen food was getting soft where it took three days to freeze a bottle of water. The person (Male) who answered the phone told me upfront that there is a $125.00 Service fee and it may cost me anywhere from $400-$500.00 to repair it from what I described. I said ok and made the appointment. Technician showed up at the agreed time, put a magnetic tool on the door sensor to simulate a door closure to check if the fan was coming on. He did nothing else and said that it will cost me $1,200-$1,500 to repair it without saying what was wrong. He said to get a new fridge because it will take over three weeks to even get parts for it, besides it was not cost effective, I agreed on that. I then asked what was wrong with it; only then he decided to say what was the issue. He said I need a Compressor and Coil. He deduced that in 15 minutes without even pulling it out to look at the back or check anything else. The bottom line is, I had another Company came the week before. That Technician spent over 1 hour to diagnose the issue by pulling out the fridge and took some readings. His conclusion was that the Compressor was stuck in low speed (this is a two speed Compressor). He reset the Fridge (unplug power cord, wait 10 minutes, plug in the power cord and waited 8 minutes ) to see if the Compressor will switch to high speed, which it did. That held until the next defrost cycle and he explained that it will re-occur again. It did so the next day. His repair cost estimate was $1.100.00 but it only involved swapping out a switch relay (cannot recall the exact part name) that is before the compressor but soldered inline with the Compressor. It will involve cutting the freon line, evacuate and refill the refrigerant. Compressor and Coil were in good condition. So who would one believe? It is obvious. I would not recommend this Company. It looks like they are there to collect $125.00 by just walking in and out without doing any due diligence in trouble shooting. They may say that they had seen problem like this before, where it was Compressor & Coil, but who is to say that all situation are the same. read more
