Take it from a born and raised Peruvian cook. I wouldn't recommend this place as a good or accurate representation of what Peruvian food is. Pretty bad quality of ingredients and the flavors were just off. Service was okay and the place seemed clean but they could use some improvement in the food. Definitely not a place I would recommend.

    Arroz Chaufa, where's the beef?

Placed a carry out order. Picked up my 4 beef Arroz Chaufas to find mainly rice. Almost no beef or anything, total $80 for 4 orders. Too pricy for a bunch of rice if you ask me.

1/2 Peruvian chicken with plantains and yucca

A Peruvian restaurant located in the small Twinbrook Marketplace plaza, Kaypi offers a nice selection of Peruvian fare such as chicken, lomo saltado, ceviche, soups, seafood entrees, and grilled meats. They also have a little light-up board by the bar area, where they have a list of their specials like the aji de gallina and tamales. I was shocked to see that they had CUY listed (prepared in 2 ways - spicy or fried) - I am not sure how more authentic you can get than that! :O I tried the 1/2 a chicken with a choice of sides - fried yucca and plantains. What I noticed right off the bat was that the portions were outrageously generous! The mounds and mounds of the fried yucca and the plantains was pretty crazy, and I think they match it up in terms of how much chicken you order. The yucca fries were crispy, and came with a side of cold sour cream which I thought added a nice touch. The plantains were plentiful and very hot, but could have been a little more crispy and more browned. The chicken was slightly on the dry end, but still juicy enough and flavorful with the creamy & mayo-y aji sauce. There is also a very picante chili sauce for the spice lovers that you can add to your chicken. I also tried their horchata, which was slightly grainy, but still refreshing. Kaypi seems to be a local favorite, as the place was filled with regulars. Make sure you brush up on your Spanish, as English is the second language here :D. Service was friendly and efficient! :D +authentic Peurvian fare +offers CUY :O +generous portions +friendly staff :D +brush up on your Spanish :D +located in the Twinbrook Marketplace, to the west of the USPS

Green Rice (Cilantro based) with Pollo and Ceviche

Stopped by on a Sunday night. Quiet but amicable atmosphere. Staff recognized me from a previous visit and resulted in some extra friendly smiles. Asked the 'lead' waitress? what would be more flavorful between the two entrees I pre-selected before ordering. She suggested the Pollo with Green Rice and Ceviche and boy, was it yummy or what! Just the right amount of Cilantro, the Ceviche combined very well with the strong citrus base and the chicken was tender! Will visit again.

Well i had the most miserable and sad experience at this place. No waitress, took forever, many mistakes, tand tastes bad!!!

The lomo saltado was well executed. The beef was tender, the fries were crispy, and the classic mix of soy sauce, onions, and tomatoes gave it that authentic Peruvian flavor. The portion size was generous and satisfying. The chupe de langostinos stood out. It was rich, creamy, and packed with shrimp, which is important because many places skimp on seafood in this dish. It had a deep, comforting flavor and felt very traditional. The place itself is small and casual but welcoming, and the service was friendly. Overall, it's a good spot in Rockville if you're looking for authentic Peruvian flavors. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

Nice set-up but they are still awaiting their liquor license (as of Jan. 2026), so they only serve non-alcoholic juices, sodas and water (for now) and hot teas on the weekends. The servers are very sweet and really know the food and menu. However, I did observe they are either a bit inexperienced, or the place is still getting things in order-- as they carry the food out without trays. I observed one server carrying a soup very close to the rim with bare hands. Now, for the food. An excellent array of varied dishes from different regions of Peruvian cuisine. My husband and I have tried our fair share of Peruvian food both in Peru and across various U.S. states. It's our go-to-food. The food here had its highs and lows. The Good & The Bad: Grilled octopus was delicious with a generous portion of everything served on sizzling skillet. Chorros à la chalaca (fresh mussels) served with pico. Both had a lovely presentation and savory flavors. Lomo saltado (sautéed beef tenderloin pieces) with fettuccine à la Huancaina served over a bed of fettuccine in a spicy cheese sauce (IYKYK). The Huancaina sauce was on point as was the sauce for the lomo--The (lomo) beef however was not. Beef was overcooked and tough to chew. And being a Peruvian spot the Classic Ceviche was a work of art but the flavor and the spice-level was lacking. Finally, I asked for a side of sauce and was charged for 2 oz. of sauce. They also tacked on a service charge fee for a table of two. Overall, the ambiance was nice and friendly but the food coming out of the kitchen did not warrant a $130 bill. Honestly, the prices are comparable for this kind of food. But I would expect better product and less hidden fees. I hope this small business will keep improving I'd love to give it another chance once they work out the kinks-- but judge for yourself!

Very nice ambience, decorated in European style. Service was top-notch, very nice waiter and hostess. They made sure to hold our table for us. They gave us a complimentary ceviche wonton which was delicious. I thought the pan-fried cod entree was delicious, especially the sauce. The fried part was a bit heavy though so I wish there was a side of vegetables rather than the crispy potato. The yuca and calamari with the aji amarillo was an excellent appetizer - I'd recommend. Also be sure to try the purple corn drink (chicha morado?) - it didn't taste like corn at all and was delicious and unique! Lime and apple taste to it.

Service was top notch, very attentive and friendly. The server encouraged us to try a highly popular Peruvian juice drink called chicha morada. It was quite unique & refreshing. I would consider this place fine dining for the quality, decor & service. The only complain was the high price tag, with tips and taxes, you are looking at $50 per person without desserts & alcoholic drinks. It's a bit pricey for lunch but if money is no object for you, I would definitely recommend this place.

Unfortunately, my recent experiences at La Brasa have been very disappointing. The biggest issue has been the customer service. The person answering the phone has been consistently rude, has taken our orders incorrectly multiple times, and instead of trying to resolve mistakes professionally, argues with customers. That is simply not the level of respect or professionalism I expect from a business that has been part of the community for so many years. I have also noticed that the food quality has declined compared to what it used to be. It's disappointing because this restaurant once had an excellent reputation. I sincerely hope management addresses these concerns by improving customer service, training staff to communicate respectfully, and restoring the quality that made so many people loyal customers. I'd be happy to update my review if I see meaningful improvements.

I really enjoy the food but of course, it's the art that drew me in the most in the first place -- even when first seeing it online years ago, I found the look of the logo to be very visually appealing. As well, this is much of what I so liked during my first dine-in experience. The only thing I didn't like was that it was rather loud. Well, it also happened to be very cold but it was very cold out that night and I was stuck wearing warm-weather clothes from the warmth earlier in the day, so ... it was a bit uncomfortable but also, I was having to consider someone else's comfort who found it to be much louder & colder ('freezing,' in fact!), than I did. The metal chairs are rather hard. There are booths with soft cushions, too -- so you have your choice. The coolest thing is if you're a fire-lover, sometimes they cook with what appears to be a flash-frying method and the flames are really big and bright -- so cool to see! If you eat with your eyes, there are many visual treats to be had here! If you just eat with your mouth, there are plenty of tasty treats! It's an all-around, all-over taste and other-senses sensation! (Filling, too -- I believe you will not leave here hungry!) Overall, I highly recommend it!
