Kay's Pizza came with hype. Then, when we got there and saw the traffic, in and around, as well as foot traffic to and from, I realized that the legend was true. It was EVERY BIT AS GREAT as I had been told! Those wings and that pie as some of the best I have had. The Kay's special was indeed that! Special! Exceptionally special. I am one to throw my crust (the bones) away. Not this pizza! I found myself dipping my bones in my wing sauce. Those wings were DRIPPING with sauce and without even having to ask. That is the way wings should be! The service was on point, even when it was so busy that I was not even sure how they were keeping up. The ambiance was also wonderful. The first time we came here it was a 10 experience. We couldn't wait to come back. Our daughter is visiting from California, so we wanted to Bring her here because we knew she would love this. The atmosphere is lovely. Families enjoying their meal and company. And it's right on the beautiful lake. It's a beautiful sight. This time however the experience was a little different. We arrived when it opened. Thinking less crowds equals fast and great service. Unfortunately, that's not how it went. We were seated promptly by the host. A few moments later our waitress arrived with our drink order and appetizers. She wasn't rude per se, but she wasn't warming either. Very straight to the point which was unexpected given that they just opened and it wasn't busy. It took her a while to Bring our drinks. She took our main order and after that we didn't really see her at all after That. Except for when she was helping other tables. Seemed like she had 4 tables which included us. She stopped by once to refill SOME of our drinks. She was quick so she missed that my husband was trying to ask for a beer. That took a while for her to bring out those drinks again... and again she missed that my husband wanted another beer. So I took it upon myself to go find her and ask her to please bring another beer for my husband. Once she did, we asked for the check and some boxes. For Some reason she was very prompt in getting us those things... Let me just say that the food is incredible. It's filling, delicious, cooked perfectly, and just heavenly. We got the Fried calamari, pretzel bites, and onion rings as our appetizers and a cheese pizza and Kay's special as our main course. All a 10! You'll love the food. I just wish the service matched the food and atmosphere of it all. Personally, when I go out to dine I'm not just paying for the food, but for the service. I'm paying good money to be waited on. This time this place felt short on that aspect. Maybe the waitress was overwhelmed? Maybe she just didn't want to wait on us and couldn't get us out of there fast enough. Overall This place a 3-star. We showed up at 4pm and a line was already building outside. The patio tables on the railing had a nice view of the lake. Our waitress was fantastic and checked in 4 or 5 times throughout the meal. The fried pickles and bone in wings arrived very fast Both were crispy and perfect fried pub food. The large pizza was massive and cut into 12. Unfortunate issue, all the toppings and cheese slid off every slice and we were not given a spatula. However the deconstructed pizza was tasty plenty of clams chicken and sausage. Sat along Burden Lake in a shady spot on the side at one of the outdoor tables. There was a nice breeze, very comfortable. We ordered steamers, hot buffalo wings and a pineapple ham Hawaiian pizza. Very tasty steamers and wings. The toppings on the Hawaiian pizza did not have a lot of flavor. We will stick with the cheese pizza next time which they are famous for in the area. Pizza is always stunning perfection. Love the expansion into appetizers within the last 5 years of new ownership, the garlic sticks are always a favorite and great dipping into the marinara that is always immaculate. But lets talk about the wings. These are the gold standard. These are the best wings I have ever eaten, and they are completely perfect every time i've been here over the last 20 years. Wings do not get better than this. Crispy and perfectly cooked, tender meat, amazing sauce. They come so slathered in sauce, but still somehow never lose their crispiness (which no other wing place in the world seems to be able to manage and its always saucy OR crispy). I have a lifetime affinity for these wings and I think about them all the time. Whenever I try wings at any other establishment across the country, they are compared (and inevitably fall short) of Kay's wings. Easiest 5 stars you'll come across, every time you go. Ca Kays is a place I usually ride my awesome motorcycle to. On Burden lake and sports amazing views and padio/deck seating! Beautiful spot to relax qnd eat amazing food! The atmosphere there is great. It was cold on the patio but they have an efficient heater. If you go early you can find a decent parking spot otherwise you'll be hiking on the bridge over the lake. Don't worry it's flat! Food is good as always. They changed their gluten free crust and it's 100% better! More like their traditional pizza crust. We called for pick up on Sunday. 05/25/25, they gave us a time which was only about an hour. We showed up exactly at that time in the direction that you advice to drive up. A big girl with a crew shirt asked our name and then we waited 30 minutes as car after car behind us got their orders. Ok. But we dared to ask this girl how much longer again only because it's been 30 minutes and orders behind us are getting their orders. She was so rude! It's busy and I can't tell you how long instead of saying "let me check" obviously they forgot to put our phone call order in and started it when we pulled up therefore the 30 minutes. If that's how you treat paying customers. No thanks! She's a rude person! How are you going to have a customer sit there in the car 30 minutes after calling way in advance and be completely rude when they ask how much longer? read more

Who doesn't love Kay's?! I've been multiple times before but this was my first time sitting outside. The tables inside also felt much less cramped with this outdoor space added, after Covid. Despite parking making it look like it'd be a long wait, we were seated within 10 minutes. We got the onion petals, calamari and Hawaiian pizza. My family loved it all! Surprisingly my 3 year old loved the calamari most! Food came out jock and was tasty and reasonably priced! Can't wait till next year so we can go back and try something new! read more

The pizza here is crazy amazing. Just a warning, they don't do reservations and getting in here with a party of more than 2 can have you waiting for hours at peak times - so be prepared to have a drink at the bar and stare at the lake for a bit. The parking is also a nightmare straight out of the pits of hell. But if you can tolerate the parking and the wait, you'll never be disappointed and you will end up just like us coming back multiple times a season and getting a second pizza to go. A close friend brought me here a few days ago to try the pizza and it was so good! I feel the crust had a perfect balance between being soft but still had a nice buttery crunch to it. I'm a stickler about my sauce and one of the reasons I don't eat pizza often is because usually the sauce is too tart or "marinara sauce like" but this sauce was sweet and had a depth of flavor to it. I took my wife the other night, (she has been there several times years ago) and she agrees. We ordered a salad (very good) but the Margherita pizza was dry, light on sauce, heavy on cheese and very little basil. Overall the pizza taste like a frozen product and some I have had were much. What does Kay's put in their pizza??? So long standing tradition in the are is Kay's. For the last 4 summers our friends have said you have to try Kay's! So we ventured off the mountain and did pick up. So... suggestion: have 2 pick up spots for people buzzing in and out. Unfortunately I don't have a boat! But good looks for those who do there was plenty of boat parking available! It's a busy place. So the pizza is greasy and tasty. It was ready when we got there, I was in and out with the transaction. So I have been dining here for years and for those who seem to have a negative opinion I would say, understand what Kay's is and what it is not. If you are NYC pizza snob who thinks the only style of pizza is Brooklyn thin, you will be disappointed. This style of pizza is different, but that is not bad. Judge it by what it is. It tastes good. I have tried all kinds of pizza in my life and each has its own appeal. I prefer thin NYC pizza, but Kays is very good. And more importantly, Kay's is about the experience. It is such a great place to go with friends and enjoy on a nice evening. Also the wings are amongst the best I have ever had! And I have had Anchor Bar and Duffs in Buffalo. These would hold their own with any wing you want to compare it with. Order them extra crispy with medium Buffalo sauce and you will see. read more

Opens at 4:00, arrived at 4:30, packed. Honestly I hate crowds but the atmosphere was electric. Everyone was super friendly. We waited for about an hour, but while we waited we had drinks, chit chatted with everyone around us, the vibe was amazing. Now the food, Pizza was awesome. Perfect crust/sauce/toppings ratio. Kay's pizza is different, but good. I'm not sure about people who think it lacks taste, perhaps because the pizza is not over salted as so many are accustomed to. And the cheese, so delicious. We had the Kay's special with sausage, peppers, and mushrooms. That nice crispy crust...yum. I also tried the risotto bites. They were good but the batter is the same as the mozzarella sticks, this making them overly reminiscent of mozzarella sticks, but on the mushy side. They were by no means great....but they were still pretty ok. This is an INCREDIBLY crowded and noisy place.....but perfect when you want to hang out, enjoy a few drinks, have some pizza, and some steamed clams. On our most recent visit we arrived at 4:15 and still had to wait thirty minutes. I noticed they have expanded the menu but I cannot imagine bothering with anything else but the pizza. They have a nice bar and a few arcade machines as this is most definitely a family friendly restaurant. If you are dining with little ones and they get fussy or start hollering, no worries because no one will notice. Did I mention it's a bit loud in there? Also, the servers are generally pretty nice and definitely earn their pay, but it is hard to hear in there, and extremely busy so if you are expecting Michelin rated service, you will be disappointed. Read these reviews....from NYC area people vs. the locals. Who would you trust about pizza? I think the truth tells...it's beloved as an institution but the pizza is a bit of a gloppy gooey mess. For whatever reason people in Capitaland seem to love puffy crusts, gooey cheese and no char...which goes against about everything a Tri-Stater loves about pizza (...when has the Albany area set the bar about anything in the culinary world outside of mozz sticks w melba sauce?). Most of these local denizens have tastebuds coated with vinyl. Good wings tho and are the sleeper here (ask for extra crispy)...but my goodness go have a beer and wings there instead of this overhyped Pizza Hut-esque quality 'za. Honestly, there is no compelling reason to go to Averill Park NY if you are that close to the Berkshires...Tanglewood/Stockbridge/Lenox is much nicer/better for your brain than Burden Lake.... read more
