My wife and I came here on date night. SInce it was so hot outside we both decided to skip ramen and instead ordered regular entrees. I had the "Crispy chicken in sweet chili sauce" and my wife had the "Mango chicken" (which they accidently made as mango shrimp but quickly corrected). The presentation, as is the rest of the restaurant, is modern. Large white plates, rice in a separate bowl, and absolutely no garnishment on the plate. I enjoyed my chicken and it was sweet and lightly spicy. It had an nice flavor I couldn't place... perhaps their brand of chili sauce.... and the chicken was crispy. My wife's mango chicken was a let down. The mango pieces tasted okay (like canned mango), but the chicken had an unusual flavor/sauce that was a bit unpleasant. She said portions of her chicken were cold and also not crispy, which was also a bummer. The rice was good, and in fact better than some I get at more expensive restaurants. My wife also liked the miso soup that came with the meals. Service was very good. I counted at least 9 employees on a Wednesday night and at one point there were more staff than customers. Food was quick, they were friendly, and the place was clean. The music was a mix of everything but not too loud, which was appreciated. Their menu had lots of nice pictures, which was helpful. This place is ABSOLUTELY amazing, I found this place last year and decided to go for my 23rd birthday it was so good, food is amazing very authentic, good quality, my favorite dishes are the Pork Belly Yaki soba noodles, the Pork Belly Fried Riced, the Pork Gyoza, and the TNT Roll. The service was good, very fast and efficient. If it does get really busy there is a wait but for me I definitely think it's worth the wait the food is delicious the people are so nice and kind. The decorations are very pretty love them a lot. It is now one of my favorite restaurants to go to so if you were ever out in Albany at Crossgates, I definitely recommend going here. read more

Went to lunch here with a friend. The mall was busy but Kazan was not. We got very good service and the food was better than expected. I got the chicken stir fry. It was a nice mix of petite veggies, chicken and noodles. The flavor was light and tasty. My friend got shrimp fried rice which she said was very good. While on vacation we knew we wanted ramen for dinner, and since we happened to be at the mall and came across this place we figured we'd give it a try. The place is large, with a big bar area and plenty of seating. Some of the tables even looked set for hot pots? We ordered a dragon roll to share, and each ordered a bowl of ramen. The sushi was fine, nothing that really stood out to me, but nothing bad either, pretty typical sushi. I ordered the Shrimp ramen, which is literally what it was called, though it said chicken/beef/shrimp ramen, they all had the same price listed, but on my bill it was more for the shrimp. Typically shrimp is more expensive but definitely noteworthy since it generally mentions the upcharge clearly in the menu. There were six decently large shrimp, but they seemed I'm not sure how to describe it, overcooked? Like tough almost? They weren't overly flavorful either. Again the ramen was fine, but didn't really stand out. Their location in the mall, and variety of options on the menu make this a place I wouldn't be opposed to coming back to in the future. My favorite ramen in the capital region!!! They have the best homemade noodles, tastiest soft boiled eggs and delicious broth. They have several different ramen flavors which I'm excited to try. Tonkatsu- the best ramen broth, not too salty, and extremely flavorful. They include 3 thick slices of pork belly, and the soft boiled egg! A great deal. Plus delicious thin noodles. Shoyu - a lighter broth but does the trick if you're not in the mood for a heavier thicker Tonkatsu broth. Black garlic oil- highly recommend with ramen! It adds an additional dimension which I haven't found anywhere else in Albany. Habanero chili oil- spicy with a big punch but an excellent flavor Overall Kazan is a must try. This is a great place for Korean BBQ! It's in the mall so already very convenient but it's still very spacious inside with unique projection wall art in the back to complete the ambiance. The first time we came I tried one of their ramen bowls and I can't honestly say it was the best I've had in Albany but it's definitely sitting pretty in second place. The main event is the Korean BBQ, very affordable in my opinion especially if you are on a date or even with a small group as they have some set deals that come in handy but of course the regular ordering options are available as well. I took the tofu out and I took the half egg out that looked like it was cooked way before it landed in my soup. I added shrimp and a flavor bomb (crushed garlic which came on the side) for an extra boost. Good thing because it lacked flavor. There were three shrimp that were over cooked. The ramen was more like angel hair pasta. Kind of disappointing. Maybe add some sprouts and leave those tomatoes out? My lunch mate loved her chicken ramen. Maybe I'll try that next time. We also got the fried chicken app. It was coated with tempura breading and overly fried, making a bit tough to chew. I got a coffee. My husband and I had a great weekday date night here. We were seated right away, and both the greeter and server were extremely nice and helpful. There were good food and drink options. I thought my meal was just a tiny bit salty so next time I will ask for less salt. Other than that, I loved it and my husband and I will return. They sent me a wrong sushi roll and packaged a mango roll with savory rolls. I don't want the mango sauce on savory sushi. That's weird. Then the tofu teriyaki. It was terrible. The tofu wasn't cooked or seasoned. And it actually had some sort of rubbery film on it. Maybe it was fried and got soggy, but this was like semi-solid gel on each piece of tofu. I took it off because it tasted like nothing but texture-wise was disgusting. And how can you have such flavorless miso soup? It wasn't even salty, among any other flavors that could be used. Tried Kazan for lunch and left very underwhelmed. Spicy Tuna Roll: pretty average, nothing wrong with it except a bit too much spicy mayo. Karaage: very tasty, nice and crisp. Easily the best item we received. Tokyo Yuzu-Shio Ramen: perfectly serviceable, broth was solid but I didn't get much if any of the yuzu flavor. Toppings were ok, but be warned you only get half an egg despite what the menu says (or my order was incomplete). Tanpopo is far superior in terms of ramen. Chicken Yaki Ramen: soggy and bland The bigger issue was service and kitchen timings. First the tuna roll came out by itself, then 1 entree a few minutes later, then the other entree a full 7-10 minutes after that, then the karaage. We also ordered gyoza we never received. A very confused busser brought an order of gyoza to the table next to us, which they didn't order. He then came to our table, asked if we'd ordered gyoza, then asked if we'd ordered shrimp tempura (we hadn't). Either our order went in very wrong or the kitchen was more disorganized than the bizarre food timings would indicate. It also took far longer than it should've to get the gyoza taken off our bill. Maybe the bbq options are better, but with Mosu so close by I doubt it's worth another try. read more

The ramen was not as good as I expected it to be. Since I'm from Japan, I know what a good bowl of ramen tastes like. Ramen is all about the soup. The noodles are only a tool to taste the broth. I ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu which means that the soup should be creamy with a lot of depth in flavor from the pork bone marrow. Instead, the soup lacked the creaminess and all I tasted was a salty basic flavor that I would taste from the instant noodles from an Asian market. Also, I ordered extra noodles which is called "kae-dama" in Japanese and it said it like that on the menu too so I ordered saying kae-dama and the waitress was like huh? and she didnt understand until I finally said extra noodles. I was disappointed by that because once again it was a clear evidence of Chinese people opening a "Japanese" restaurant and creating fake Japanese foods. Here in Albany, we have the famous ramen bar called Tanpopo so I walked into Kazan looking forward to compare them. Staff was friendly, especially our waiter Alan. We got the Takata Tonkotsu ($15, which in comparison to the menu before...has increased a few dollars in price). This came with 3 slices of pork belly, which was not overly salty or greasy, which was nice. The broth was savory and light (again, not heavily salted). I didn't feel like I needed to drink a ton of water to offset any salt or tea to offset any grease. There was also a small portion of ginger slivers, sliced bamboo, black fungus, scallions, a slightly sweet/savory half of a hard-boiled tea egg with its yolk soft, tender, sweet, and glistening orange/yellow hues, which is the best part aside from the broth. The ramen could be better. It didn't have the Q-Q bite I expected or al-dente that most would better relate to. I can definitely make a better ramen noodle soup at home, but it's surely the sacrifice when you just feel like being served and not having to clean up after. We also had the Seafood Ramen ($18), which came with a clear broth, a few small pieces of seared scallops (~3), 3 pieces of curled, deveined shrimp, 3 pieces of imitation crab (had a nice, not overpowering, sweetness to it), half of an egg, slices of bamboo, black fungus, scallions, and seaweed. Had a Tokyo Iced Tea ($9) to wash it all down and a green tea fried ice cream, which is their take on the traditional tempura ice cream I'm used to. The drink was decent. I also ordered a Shirley Temple, but they never brought it nor mentioned it so I just let it go. The ice tempura peeled away from the ice cream. The cream was average along with the sprinkles, but the sauce drizzled was yummy...maybe a raspberry. For $6, it's OK. Satisfied my curiosity. Would I go back, well, I suppose to try some other dishes...maybe the K-BBQ. Would I recommend to others...unlikely unless I find something worth sharing. Too bad we don't have AYCE K-BBQ here! I had the pleasure of going to this fine establishment over the weekend. It was a pleasant dining experience and a clean place right off the bat. I was greeted by my waiter Timmy who was extremely kind and is a wonderful waiter. When running an establishment it's a huge benefit to have good customer service and that is what we received through Timmy and the wonderful cooks. I have been all across the world and have even traveled to China where I have had some of the best Asian foods and ramens possible. The Kazan BBQ, Ramen, & Bar was extremely good and I'm glad I chose to go here. The food was very reminiscent of my trips to Asia and was as good if not better then the true authentic food from Asia that I have tried. We decided to go with the Famous ramen and an appetizer. I chose the pork belly and my partner chose to go with the vegetable Ramen. For our appetizer we had some deliciously wonderful shrimp tempura. This was a good choice because we didn't even need to get desert. The meal was provided to us with lightning speed and I was actually impressed.
