    Barbecue

Went with a group of friends for lunch and it was nice. The portion sizes are fairly large with the barbecue, so eating time can be around an hour, which is good. Staff were friendly, but food was slow to come out (even uncooked meat for the barbecue), so we were inside for a while. Would recommend if you have the time.

It was pretty empty on a Friday night so we got seated quickly. There isn't music so you just hear conversation and people grilling. Nice touch they added a cooking time guide. the 0.30 minutes made me giggle. They probably meant 30 seconds. The calamari was the largest i've ever seen. It came with sweet/spicy sauce like you get with Chinese takeout.... was not a huge fan. It was nice and crispy tho. I ordered miso ramen and got Shoyu. I'm not one to send things back, but this shoyu was saltier than I expected. The bamboo shoots and pork belly were tasty. I prefer wavy noodles, but these were perfectly al dente. I tried some tonkatsu broth which was okay. I would come back just to try their sushi.

My favorite ramen in the capital region!!! They have the best homemade noodles, tastiest soft boiled eggs and delicious broth. They have several different ramen flavors which I'm excited to try. Tonkatsu- the best ramen broth, not too salty, and extremely flavorful. They include 3 thick slices of pork belly, and the soft boiled egg! A great deal. Plus delicious thin noodles. Shoyu - a lighter broth but does the trick if you're not in the mood for a heavier thicker Tonkatsu broth. Black garlic oil- highly recommend with ramen! It adds an additional dimension which I haven't found anywhere else in Albany. Habanero chili oil- spicy with a big punch but an excellent flavor Overall Kazan is a must try. The ramen is easily the best in the area and resembles ones I've had from Japan

This is a great place for Korean BBQ! It's in the mall so already very convenient but it's still very spacious inside with unique projection wall art in the back to complete the ambiance. The first time we came I tried one of their ramen bowls and I can't honestly say it was the best I've had in Albany but it's definitely sitting pretty in second place. The main event is the Korean BBQ, very affordable in my opinion especially if you are on a date or even with a small group as they have some set deals that come in handy but of course the regular ordering options are available as well. The food is yummy every time and with plenty of options you'll never get bored! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night, small get together or even to sit at the bar and people watch haha!

I was excited to be able to get some ramen right in the mall! Maybe I'm a ramen snob because of the great ramen I had in NYC, but this place has a way to go to be competitive. It was just ok. The ramen wasn't piping hot. It definitely could've been hotter. I got the vegetarian ramen, packed with veggies and what I think may have been tofu. I took the tofu out and I took the half egg out that looked like it was cooked way before it landed in my soup. I added shrimp and a flavor bomb (crushed garlic which came on the side) for an extra boost. Good thing because it lacked flavor. There were three shrimp that were over cooked. The ramen was more like angel hair pasta. Kind of disappointing. Maybe add some sprouts and leave those tomatoes out? My lunch mate loved her chicken ramen. Maybe I'll try that next time. We also got the fried chicken app. It was coated with tempura breading and overly fried, making a bit tough to chew. I got a coffee. Keep in mind they only have sugar, no sugar substitute and the cups don't have handles so it's hot to pick up. You must wait a bit to pick it up. Also, no spoon. I stirred it with my chop stick. The service was good and friendly and the place looked busy. I have high hopes that it will be around for a while and just get better!

My husband and I had a great weekday date night here. We were seated right away, and both the greeter and server were extremely nice and helpful. There were good food and drink options. I thought my meal was just a tiny bit salty so next time I will ask for less salt. Other than that, I loved it and my husband and I will return. One last thing, it would be great to see more black and brown people among the staff. Many of the patrons were in this demographic and diversity matters. Finally, it was nice to work off dinner by walking around the mall! :-)

Just went here for dinner last night, got the Chili Pork Dumpling Ramen, the Avocado Eel, Smoked Salmon and Tuna Roll. Service is always good and they have good prices.

BBQ platter! Loved it!!! It also had sausage and shrimp!

I absolutely recommend this place. From the time I arrived I was greeted by a staff member. We went pretty early (for lunch) so there was no wait time. My waiter Ray was amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly and just over all gave us an amazing experience. I recommend he gets a raise. The drinks were so good perfect balance of alcohol and flavor. I recommend the Hawaiian Sky if you like sweet drinks, it taste like a peach ring candy. We had sushi for starters: salmon wrapped mango (raw) and the dinosaur egg (cooked). That Dino egg was delicious. We chose the bbq option for the assortment of meats. It also came with veggies and fried rice! And we ordered a bowl of ramen. I think we went into a food coma and it was great!

Went back for the bbq and now it's a solid five star. Good server advised on how to use the prongs to pick up the meat and how to set the heat. Pro tip use the miso soup spoon as a ladle for the sauce and pay the extra $2 for fried rice instead of white.

Upon entering, the girl behind the counter just stared at us. No greeting. No direction on where to sit. No smile. We assumed it was self seating so we found a booth. She came over, poured our waters, still said nothing. We had about 45 mins until the restaurant closed so I'm unsure of what the cold attitude was for, as there were still 4-5 other patrons there eating as well. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings, and I had the same but with meat. Once the plates arrived, the one set in front of me was green, and his not. I figured I would double check to make sure we had the correct ones - I didn't want him to end up eating the meat ones if it could be avoided. Sure enough, the plates were mixed up. Honestly seemed to be done purposefully because it's very clear they are 2 different orders. The texture was chewy/foamy and they also tasted like old grease. Disappointing but we still had soups to look forward to. Our ramen finally arrived and I was hoping it would be the redemption moment of the evening but it wasn't. It really lacked any depth of flavor. Again the meat was chewy instead of tender. More distracting was how we awkwardly felt rushed as the server was shutting off lights and music...again...with at least 15 mins until the kitchen closing time. She seemed annoyed we asked for to go containers. At no point did she check in with us, refill waters, or even crack any resemblance of a smile. I used to love this little spot when I was in college. It was cozy, delicious, inviting. Couldn't have had more of the opposite experience this time around! And for this reason I would not return. I will travel to Colonie for Kuma Ani for better food and MUCH better service. TLDR; this place is extremely overrated

It's a Taiwan-Asian fusion-inspired fast food chain but I was down for this. It's been more than a year since my last meal here. I don't know if they changed their menu but I experienced a bit of a relearning curve in ordering ramen at the front counter. First, I needed to pick a broth. I chose Tonkotsu ramen, which is ramen in Japanese pork bone broth. Then, I needed to pick a protein which was shrimp and I asked for the meal to be extra spicy. It only took a few minutes. I could hear it being prepared in the kitchen. The young woman at the register was helpful and patient as I made my selection. Definitely convenient. The ramen was good. I got a lot of shrimp and I liked the little slices of fish cake with pink flower designs. The decor has undergone slight changes since I last visited. It seems there are better displays and more varieties of merch. It's still very clean, bright and cheerful. There are still plenty of young customers. Given its close proximity to SUNY Albany that should be no surprise. I liked the playlist, too. R & B and Hip Hop played in the background. Loud enough so that you could definitely hear it but low enough so that students who were dining--some in groups-- could comfortably hold conversations. I didn't plan to come here but my stomach growled. It was a nice, relaxing lunch that hit the spot.

(not too sure) The tofu soup I got was mild-lightly spicy and gosh it was the spiciest soup I've ever gotten and I usually eat this and other spicy foods perfectly fine! Wasn't the best for me. Alternatively the beef soup felt a bit bland but my friend liked it. Main complaint is not much beef in the soup and it tasted very tough. alternatively not much seafood either, just tiny small bits of cheap shrimps which were a bummer. Only good thing was the decent price and decent free side dishes (not many) of which only broccoli tasted good. Food took forever to come so side dishes were a life saver although they also were never refilled which at traditional places they are. Main thing: the service was quite bad... from the moment we walked in, we didn't feel welcome as no one welcomed us, dirty tables were everywhere (like in those video games you play to clean up), and we waited awhile at the counter looking at menus until someone greeted us with an attitude yelling that counter is only for to-go and we should've just sat down if we're dining in... she huffed and sat us down, surrounded by the dirty tables. We asked if we could sit elsewhere but as big as the restaurant was, she still said half of it was closed for dinner (I know other places do the same but they were kind enough to let us sit in that area when requested) and the reason why this time, was because we were literally sitting surrounded by dirty dishes all around us - which they never cleaned up the entire hour we dined here! Very unpleasant view-never have I ever! Even our current table was sticky. And the food and service took forever. She seemed very annoyed when we ordered and whenever we asked for water or refill side dishes and gave attitude like we obviously need to wait for her to appear and be free to even ask which she was rarely seen. I never saw her treat other customers like the same way she treated us, for them, she was very patient and kind and offered menu options and even personal talk. Seems like she doesn't like tourists, just regulars. Anyways she was rarely seen throughout the meal and so I just sucked up the not so good food and we finished and took awhile to get the check. That was the only point in the interaction she seemed to be present in the restaurant. Other times she was nowhere to be seen. When paying, she loudly exclaimed what do you want to tip? In an attitude saying that, we had to tip, and it had to be a sufficient amount otherwise she'd be upset - which she was because service was not good. Even when we left and said bye, she gave us no word back and just another one of those scowled looks. Only one lady working the front and she was barely present and not pleasant. Overall food really isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. If this cuisine is what you're craving go for it, it's fairly priced. I would support a small business. But don't expect a clean restaurant or friendly service - unless youre a regular or fits the server preferred demographic. Not the best experience for me. Whole heartedly believe if service was better this could be a solid place!

I may be part of the Asian club but I'm not a part of this particular inner circle. Being Filipino…read more(or being human, for that matter), I tend to compare and contrast cuisines based on my own experience. With several Asian cuisines, rice seems to be the preferred carb. Korean black rice differs primarily in appearance - purple hue due to the mix of black and white rice. Gimbap (Kimbap) - is often described as Korean sushi. In doing some research, there's a distinct difference between the two. The seasonings used to flavor the steamed rice are salt and sesame oil. They are usually stuffed with cooked protein (beef, pork, tofu, fishcake) and pickled vegetables. They seem to be a larger diameter than maki sushi as well. Good? You betcha. Tonkatsu lunch is a favorite....think German pork schnitzel over black rice. The sauce seems to be Tteokbokki (glutinous rice cake) derived - sweet and slightly spiced. There are usually banchan (side dishes) accompanying the meal: kimchi, cucumber pickle, daikon, and eomuk (fish cake). They provide added contrast to the meal. The service has always been efficient and cordial every time I've picked up my order here.
