The ceviche was good--no complaints there. Unfortunately, the other dishes were disappointing. The poké bowl was mostly vegetables, with very little tuna and rice. It felt like only about 5% of the bowl was tuna, so they really skimped on the main ingredient. The lobster roll was also lacking in lobster, and the bread-to-lobster ratio was way off. The service was equally disappointing. Our server forgot to put in our drink order, and I had to remind her, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. After we placed our food order, we waited over 30 minutes for it to arrive. Meanwhile, we watched several tables that were seated after us receive their food within about 10 minutes. To make matters worse, we happened to visit on a hot day. The restaurant is completely open-air, but there were no fans or any noticeable airflow, making it very uncomfortable. Overall, we won't be returning. Between the tiny portions of protein, the poor service, and the uncomfortable dining environment, the experience wasn't worth it.

this was such a hidden gem that we recently discovered. my boyfriend has lived in the area forever…read moreand this was somehow the first time he'd even heard of this place. i got the connecticut-style lobster roll and it was soooo good, i immediately wished i had a second one (and i totally would've, if it wasn't the fact lobster is always hard on the wallet). the lobster was prepared perfectly and the bread was warm, buttery, and just hit the spot. it's a small shop and honestly pretty easy to miss since it's tucked behind hedges in a building, if it weren't for the massive inflatable lobster outside, we probably would've driven right past it. my boyfriend got the grilled cheese with tots and fries, and he was very happy with his meal too. definitely a spot i'd come back to when the lobster craving hits again.

The building called The Chateau, a giant white colonial office complex on Ventura Blvd. between…read moreWinnetka and De Soto, has always seemed wildly out of place in the San Fernando Valley. But after more than 4 decades, this hulking structure reminiscent of a New England governor's mansion, has finally found its true purpose: to be the home of Lobster Guys, a Maine-style lobster shack now nestled in the Northeast corner of the facade. In contrast to the immensity of the building, Lobster Guys is a cozy shop with just 3 tables inside and a diminutive kitchen cranking out a mid-sized menu of Lobster Rolls, chowders, salads and a few other sandwiches. What little wall space there is has been deftly decorated with pieces of distressed, seaside bric-a-brac, giving the place a real sense of New England. And with the Summer sun streaming through the colonial-style windows, you really forget that you're dining between a Porsche dealer and a Target. They've got both styles of lobster roll available (Maine, cold w/mayo, or Connecticut, warm w/melted butter), as well as a crab roll and a version that's a mix of both crustaceans. All are served on the traditional, flat-sided bun grilled in butter. I opted to have my roll Maine style with the cold lobster salad, and found it to be a generous portion. The structure of those buns makes it easy to rest the lobster on its top, making the sandwich look fuller than it is -- but not here!! Lobster Guys really gives you your money's worth of lobster, and that's even with their prices running about $7 cheaper than what's offered at some of the well-known places in Malibu. The lobster meat was fresh and flavorful; properly cooked, so the texture was pleasing. I found the lobster salad to have a bit too much mayo, but it wasn't enough to ruin the meal. A lady sitting next to me had the warm butter version, and I think I'll try that next time. I added a small side of French Fries, and they were nicely crisped and seasoned, though the ketchup dispenser was almost out, and what emerged was watery -- but, as there was only one person working the entire shop, I decided to forget the ketchup and just enjoy them "naked." They were just fine without it. If you want to dine al fresco, there are a number of tables outside, situated in spaces within the colonnade. Again, if you face towards the building, you'll feel like you're on the East Coast (if you can ignore the traffic on Ventura Blvd. just a few feet away). In the end, while the food and service could use a few tweaks, this is a terrific addition to the neighborhood, and a place to get a really enjoyable bite that's just not that common in this part of the city. Do go!

Though it's the more casual offshoot of Water Grill, King's retains a sleek decor and top-flight service, and you definitely get an excellent experience for your buck. In fact, cocktails are a good few dollars less here than at other places in the area, especially Blvd Steak right next door. My martini was very cold, well-made and of a very generous size, so no complaints on that front at all. My wife ordered the Macadamia Crusted Halibut, with a double dose of starch: mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese. The fish was fresh, meaty and nicely cooked, with a juicy interior and a very flavorful crust. The potatoes also had good flavor, but I found the mac & cheese to be wanting -- a bit too much like the packaged variety. However, my wife really liked it, so what do I know?! For my entree I ordered the Shrimp Louie Salad, a very generously portioned bowl of greens and assorted chopped veggies plus avocado, onion, hard boiled eggs and cool, poached shrimp, all topped with a Louie dressing. Everything was fresh as could be, the shrimp tasted terrific, and the avocado was a nice foil for the onion and chopped carrots. It was a very enjoyable entree salad. Service was friendly and attentive from 2 different bartenders, and it turned out to be a very satisfying, impromptu Saturday date night for a couple of no-longer-kids!

The same fork I'd started eating my salad with. I get the waiters attention and let him know the shrimp are still 'al dente'. Again- I've used my personal fork poking all 6 shrimp as well as touching one with my fingers. Waiter comes back with said SAME SHRIMP. The f'ing chef just threw them back on the grill and they brought them back out to me. Waiter says very proudly 'he tossed them back on, should be to your liking now' Me: he tossed the same shrimp back on the grill??? Proud waiter: YUP! First of all- you don't toss uncooked back onto the grill. You make new ones. RIGHT?????????? Second of all- my FORK from my mouth, touched those shrimp and you just told me those shrimp went back on the grill you use to cook other people's food with ?? Disgusting Pretty sure that's against a law?? The shrimp were absolutely overcooked and now burnt - and you're a fish house. Do better Not sure how many size 16 people parties we will be having here anymore.

I was surprised to see the open kitchen located near the entry but perhaps the message is "we're confident in what we do." The vibe reminded me of a European cafe and is warm and inviting. Nikko led us to our dining table where a handwritten note awaited us, celebrating our special occasion. That was a surprise and a nice touch! Our server, Paris, was pleasant and managed to keep everything moving. We ordered squash blossoms, baby gem Caesar salad, miso cod with forbidden rice, and NY strip with fries. Everything was delicious and satisfying. I'm not big on desserts, but the off-menu cherry crostata with ice cream was sublime.
