I'm ready for the new resturant to open already. I'm tired of waiting to eat even when I arrive early and after being seated, being rushed to scarf down my food so fast because they want to turn over tables. I won't be coming here on the weekend again. I came 30 minutes before opening and put my party of 4 on the list. I was approx. The 15th person on the list & didn't get to go in the first wave of people to dine in. Waited another hour to get seated. Once I ordered $600 worth of food & tip, it all came out so fast that we were forced to rush so they could make room to put our orders down at our table. I finally had it and politely asked them to slow down because it was ridiculous. The fish and food is excellent so it's worth every penny but they need to allow people to taste their food and not pack them in like sardines or make them wait so long. Hurry up with the rebuild - the extended live date is so annoying.

Wow! This quality is unbeatable. With amazing, straight forward sushi options and kind and knowledgeable chefs, in an intimate, casual setting, Shibuya is doing it all right. Everyone that goes to Shibuya, KNOWS Shibuya. All the alterations you can do - which I must take advantage of next time!! (like crispy rice with spicy salmon or albacore). Some sashimi plates come with much more than just the fish! Like the Yellowtail & ponzu/jalapeño or Albacore & crispy onion. The nigiri is masterful, omakase level. Carefully prepared and large!! The prices are a bit high but you get amazing portions, I left soooo full. The rolls are great too! The salmon onion was delicious. Very popular to add soy paper but we stuck with the seaweed. So much to try next time! Came on a Wednesday a little before opening and was sat in the first bunch. But the wait gets crazy!! So be prepared.

Shibuya is the best little hole in the wall sushi joint. When I go to other sushi places, I always find myself comparing everything I eat to the food here. Just a tip that there is usually always a wait for this place no matter the day of the week and they do not take reservations. You stop by and put your name on a list and then they will call you from there and you will wait for the glory of getting to eat the fabulous sushi. Inside, the tables are close together but that's kind of become the charm of this place and has been over the years. It's just this great little unassuming restaurant that makes really really good sushi and you gotta come and wait out your turn out at the edge of the parking lot until your name is called. That's how it works (but it's worth it). The lot is tiny tiny and you may have a rough time getting a space because this restaurant is always busy, but there's also a bit of street parking around if you needed. I actually respect that Shibuya hasn't expanded until they've been ready to. We confirmed with our waiter that Shibuya is opening up a new location nearby (finally!!) I am super excited about that because it will also have a to go side, which currently they don't have here, (but I don't mind not having to-go for for this location because it keeps things cozy and quaint inside. I like that the staff can focus on their customers needs and keep it clear and simple and make sure everyone is taken care of.) I will definitely be a repeat customer at both locations if they keep up the mom and pop ambiance and keep the quality of sushi top notch too. The fish is so so fresh here and the ingredients are all so good together the way they make it. The sushi rolls are all excellent but I especially love the spicy tuna on crispy rice. I ask for it with no mayo and they do it no problem. It is so good. Every bite is perfection - the rice is crispy and the tuna has the perfect kick. I feel like they never wait to bring it out either and everything is perfectly crunchy and good immediately once I bite into it. I always have to savor this one because it's gone so quickly because everyone at the table likes the crunchy rice so much. It's very popular. When I looked around at the tables, pretty much everyone had a spicy tuna on crispy rice on their table too which made me chuckle. It really is that good! We always ask for the black cod here even when it's not really on the menu. It's one of my favorite fish to eat and the way they cook it and flavor it melts in my mouth every time. Salmon skin roll is top notch too. The price point is a little higher here but we usually wait until a birthday or special occasion as an excuse and it makes it special to go here. Looking forward to more meals both here and the new location to come!

Shibuya is definitely one of the best out there. The fish is always fresh and flavorful, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. My go-to order is the Spicy Tuna Rice Cake and Spicy Salmon Rice Cake ($16.50 per order), along with the salmon onion hand roll ($16.50). Everything comes out fast and always hits the spot. The restaurant itself is very small, so it fills up quickly. People actually start lining up about an hour before opening just to get their names on the waitlist, so I highly recommend going early. Parking can also be a bit tight since the lot is small. It is on the pricier side, but in my opinion, the freshness and quality make it worth it.

It's always a long wait here but the place is top notch. The sushi chefs are amazing and even though the place is tiny, it kind of gives a nice intimate vibe to it. I got there for lunch when it opened at 12 and there were people already in there. We waited an hour for a sushi bar seat of 2. Their fish is so good. I recommend getting that. Also has the Shibuya roll, which was great! Service was good and overall experience was great! I just wonder how I can eat there without waiting so long! Ha! At least it's nice in Calabasas.

This has been on my list of restaurants to try for years. I finally got the chance to try it and it lived up to the hype. There was a line already at 4:30PM so I recommend arriving before opening and putting your name down and walking to the Commons for some steps and to pass time. We waited an hour and got seated in a small table that was more for 2 people but we made it work for 4 people. The service was good, we asked for spicy mayo, eel sauce, and extra ginger on the side and they were quick with the food coming out. We got a good amount of food to try and everything was fresh and tasty! Really recommend asking for spicy mayo, it comes with chili oil and masago on top! - Salmon Crispy Rice 4/5 - Tuna Crispy Rice 4/5 - Shibuya Roll 4.5/5 - Salmon Roll 4/5 - Albacore Sashimi Fried Onions on top 4.5/5 - Albacore and Spicy Tuna Roll 4.7/5 I will be coming back here soon.

Shibuya Calabasas is that place where the sushi is so good you'll tolerate behavior you would NEVER tolerate in a relationship. Like "yeah the wait was a disaster, but the spicy tuna looked me in the eyes and said 'trust me'." Food: fire. Legit. Fresh, clean, every bite tastes like it has a personal trainer and a savings account. The kitchen is doing their job. No notes. Price: pretty expensive. Not "treat yourself" expensive. More like "I just treated myself and now I need to punish myself" expensive. You don't order, you commit. You're not picking a roll, you're choosing a financial path. Wait: this is where it gets messy. The wait is long AND it's unorganized. They've got a waitlist that's like three pages deep and half the names are straight up fictional. People put their name down and disappear like they got a text from their ex or a warrant alert. So the host is calling names like it's a missing persons hotline. " AMANDA? Party of two?" Silence. "AMANDA???" Meanwhile Amanda is already home in sweatpants watching Netflix like "that was a fun little adventure." And everyone who actually stayed is just standing there watching the list stall out like: "So are we eating... or are we joining a book club?" They NEED a text system. Because right now it's basically "write your name down and hope the universe respects it." A simple text-based waitlist would fix everything: * confirm you're still coming * update your spot * stop wasting everyone's time calling ghost names Right now the waitlist is giving... haunted clipboard. Overall: food is absolutely worth it, but you're paying a premium to also participate in a chaotic lobby situation. 4 stars because once you're seated it's amazing, but getting seated feels like trying to get backstage at Coachella with a Post-it note.

They have a lot of "MP" for the price on their menu so expect for a pricey meal. They have limited seating so if you didn't make it here early enough to add your name to the list expect a bit of a wait. We came for my sisters birthday dinner since this is her favorite sushi place. I tired the tuna nigiri and some various rolls that we split. Everything was pretty fresh, the nigiri was very impressive. The rolls were fine, but I wouldn't say it's totally worth the price. It's very good sushi overall but I think the price is based on the city/location. I'm rounding up from a 3 1/2 since yelp only lets you give full stars.

Good Lord, I have forgotten how fantastic Shibuya is with the freshest sushi located in an L-shaped strip mall across from the Commons in Calabasas. Can I give this joint 5 1/2 stars? A small L shaped sushi bar with about five tables is all that graces the interior of this spectacular sushi bar that attracts people from miles away. When my wife and I owned a restaurant in Calabasas, we were regular customers trying whatever owner Mark and his four SUSHI chefs could offer. The Columbia river and copper River wild salmon which was seasonal was so good that one never wanted to have any other salmon from any other place. Because I was celiac, in the early days I brought in my own gluten-free soy sauce and would leave it for customers if there were any that had my affliction. They modified a couple dishes for me such as softshell crab roll with avocado and onion, which they prepared instead of in flour with cornstarch. When I first ordered it, everybody at the sushi bar demanded to have it my way, which is so much tastier than having a large amount of deep fried batter. After working at the Calabasas pumpkin festival, I was hungry and I knew it would be a long drive home, so I pulled into the small parking lot and waited outside to put my name on a clipboard. When they open at 5 o'clock the place immediately fills up and you have to wait if you are there after 5 o'clock for the first shift to finish eating approximately an hour to an hour and a half later and this proceeds the entire evening. This place is so popular, I have met people as far away from Orange County who have driven to this small sushi bar in the West Valley. Mark over the years, had many opportunities to expand the restaurant to the store next to it or to open up another restaurant, and in fact, I was in the restaurant when a wealthy man offered to bankroll Mark on the spot with a restaurant in Santa Monica. Mark refused to open another or expand and kept his eye on the prize: a fabulous small local sushi place that serves the finest sushi. Mark has recently retired but that has not diminished the excellence of this joint. I did not realize that they now open the door at 4:30 to allow those in the know to put their name on the clipboard and then wait outside until the restaurant opens with eight or nine people breathlessly waiting like a group of puppies at the front door ready to go for a walk. When I realized at 4:50pm that the door was open, I went in and there were already many people on the list. Fortunately for me, the runner remembered me came over and said is it just you and he looked at me saying that he would make sure I got in. The woman and hostess at the front who rules the clipboard also remembered me from years back, and when they finally blessedly opened the front door a crack and the hostess shouted the roll call, I got in at 5 o'clock at the sushi bar in front of the only one of four sushi chefs who is still there from when I last and many times dined at this restaurant. I knew what I wanted: two pieces of the freshest salmon sushi, spicy tuna with rice cakes, and soft shell crab roll with avocado made with cornstarch instead of flour. They even carry gluten-free soy sauce so I was in heaven starting with the complementary sunomono and hot green tea and then ate each course slowly, savoring each bite, as it was just as good as I remembered with the flavors bursting forth as they should. I thanked my sushi chef with my limited Japanese as well as the hostess and the very kind runner who used to bring me my gluten-free soy sauce before I sat down and knew the drinks that my family would order before we ordered them. It is so great to have a homecoming of sorts that turns out to be as great as remembered.

Always a busy place, but worth the wait. I ordered the Wagyu beef sushi, sea bream sushi, albacore with truffle oil, and eel sushi. The sushi you can tell is fresh when you eat it. The Wagyu beef was soft and savory. The eel was crispy on the edges with a savory sauce on top. Love trying different sushi pieces every time I come. Parking- very small parking lot or street parking

The popularity of Shibuya speaks for itself, quite frankly. I'm embarrassed to admit that, time and time again, I go out of my way to plan my day around getting a prime spot on the seating list. It is what it is. It's worth it. The interior is quite worn through, but it's a beloved hotspot for tourists and regulars, alike. The regulars definitely make themselves known here. From them, I learned that the best seats in the house are at the bar. The nigiri and sashimi here are divine. They use the perfect amount of sauce and garnish with each dish. I highly recommend the salmon, yellowtail and scallop. The squid appetizer is also fantastic. This is a pricey place with old school tendencies, so come ready.

Food here is always worth the wait! I love getting the salmon rolls and nigiri. Something I don't see a lot of people talk about is the baked snow crab hand roll. It comes out hot and stuffed with crab! It can feel a bit tight at the bar depending on who you're sitting next to but I enjoy watching all the madness that goes down behind the bar/kitchen. I do wish the sushi chefs were a bit nicer. Most of them are great but a few of them can be moody. One in particular even rudely questioned whether or not we would be able to finish all the food we ordered. What does that matter? We're paying for the food and will take it to go. Meals here can easily top $300 for two but for the quality you get it still feels like the prices here are reasonable. I love Shibuya!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in LA and possibly the whole world. Always a long wait but definitely worth it! I recommend going with a smaller group bc the restaurant is small. Must get the spicy tuna crispy rice. I also always get the shibuya roll. Some other faves are the albacore w crispy onion, salmon nigiri (or any tbh), stuffed squid. I've never had something I didn't like though!

    Ask the Community - Shibuya

    Do they do takeout?

No, they do not do take out.

    Do they have Tempura?

    Yes!!

How early can I show up to put our names down for dinner?

You can put your name down at lunch time for dinner. Or show up 30 mins early for dinner and put it down then

    Are they open for lunch?

    Yes. Tues-Fri 12-2pm

    Do they take AMEX?

    Yes

How busy does this place during weekday dinners (Wednesday)? Should I show up well before opening to put my name down for a group of 3?

I always try to get there 30-45min before opening time to get my name on the list. Wait times for tables are usually longer since they have like 4 tables that seat 3+ people. But if you're open to being seated at the bar then it might be faster.…

Is this place still open? I keep calling but no answer.

Yes they are open. In fact we had dinner there last night. The problem is that it is a small restaurant and very busy and takes no reservations. So you need to go and wait like everyone else. They recently sold the restaurant and have not changed…

Do they have gluten free soy sauce and wasabi?

I'm not sure, but I can find out. But...you could bring your own GF soy sauce...that's what I would do if I were you :-)

Is this an all you can eat place?

It is if you have a black card and don't care about the price

    Are they open January 2nd?

They normally are open on Sunday but would suggest calling.

Are they still doing take out?

I called 2 weeks ago and they told me no take out

Are they open for lunch or dinner only?

They are open for both lunch and dinner but as usual be prepared to wait.

What time do they open for dinner? And are reservations being taken?

    5pm dinner and no reservations

Are they open for indoor dining now?

    Take out only

February 2021, is this restaurant open for take out?if it's open, how is an order placed? When I call voicemail says messages are full?

Yes, it's open. Just keep calling until they answer. Their voicemail full is basically their busy signal. It may take a while to get through, but I promise you will.... and it's worth the wait. Also, wait times to pickup your order can range…

Are they still closed for take-out? Posted May 15

    They're open for takeout (9/3/2020)

    When is Shibuya opening back?

They are open for takeout only right now.

What time can I add my name to waiting list for dinner?

Add your name to the list once you get to the restaurant. It's usually a really long wait especially if your party is big. But you can leave and come back when your table is ready. Trust me it's worth the wait. Best sushi place. Ever.

What is the process of getting in? I see people all outside and a clipboard? are there no reservations and first come first serve? How long is the wait for 2 usually on a Friday night? Is it better than Sugarfish across the street?

They do not take reservations. You have to put your name on the sign in sheet and it's first come, first serve.…

From the incredibly fresh fish to the beautiful presentation, this meal was one of those experiences that won't leave my memory anytime soon. Located in the old town / downtown portion of Calabasas, it can get busy downtown, so anytime a restaurant here takes a reservation I make one, which was definitely the move. Even on a weekday at opening for lunch we were third in line (but again, had a reservation so no issue). Also I appreciate that they have valet parking, only $7 not bad since the street parking can be hard to navigate. The restaurant itself has such a sleek, modern vibe that makes it perfect for date night, girls' night, or celebrating something special. It definitely feels upscale, but still welcoming and comfortable. We ordered a variety of sushi, cocktails, and specialty rolls, and honestly there wasn't a miss. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were balanced, and you can tell they put a lot of care into every dish. The quality absolutely shines through. Service was also 5 stars. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. Different staff helped out and checked on us, I always appreciate a restaurant where everyone helps every table. Great service and felt personable. If you're a sushi lover who doesn't mind spending a little more $$$ for amazing quality and an elevated ambiance, then this spot deserves a place on your list. For a cocktail and a few rolls/sushi it was $100 a person, yes a little steep but the quality and presentation was there. If you want to save money opt out of the cocktails but you'll still spend about $75 a person that way. My favorite bites here were their speciality FatherKels Roll and the Amber Jack sushi to start. The oysters were fresh, the seafood tasted high quality, and there was a very good selection of fish and seafood dishes on the menu. I also appreciated that they have a kids' menu along with coloring pages and stickers, which made the experience much easier and more enjoyable with children. They also offer a very nice wine selection that pairs perfectly with the seafood dishes. Everything felt thoughtful, fresh, and well done. Definitely a place worth coming back to.

I hadn't been here in a while, but my fiancé and I decided to stop by last minute for dinner, and…read moreI'm so glad we did! Our server, Steve, was fantastic. I actually remembered him from years ago when he worked at Kiwami in Studio City, so it was great to see him again. His service was just as exceptional as I remembered--friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations. We ordered several of the classic rolls along with two hand rolls that Steve suggested, and every single dish was delicious. Katsuya never disappoints. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, and the hospitality is top-notch. Everyone, from the hosts to the servers, greeted us with genuine smiles and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere is stylish yet comfortable, there's plenty of parking, and the overall dining experience was excellent. This place continues to be one of our favorite sushi spots, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Service here is horrendous the hosts all gather at the front and just chit chat while customers kids are standing there and messing with the menus and sanitizer bottles The food takes so long to come out even the miso soup took 15 mins JUST FOR MISO SOUP This is definitely a place people come to with a bunch of kids and misbehaved ones at that The most popular dish here is their crispy rice tuna and the servers even say they don't like it We ordered just miso soup, sushi fish and rice and corn tempura 12 pieces of sushi took over 45 minutes. This was overall a horrible experience with decent food nothing to go home and brag about It's not crowded because of popularity it's crowded because the food takes forever so of course all the tables are full

The restaurant is small with a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, and the food was honestly some of the best I've had. Everything tasted fresh, high quality, and made with care. The toro tartare was a standout dish, and the salmon sashimi was amazing. The service was also incredible and very patient. Even when we finished, the waitress walked me to the door, which was a really nice touch. I'll definitely be coming back. Prices are a little expensive, but if you appreciate quality sushi, it's absolutely worth it.

Chef Jae guides you through a thoughtfully crafted $190 18 course "Taste Forest" that's sure to delight. When my husband and I showed up at the neighboring lounge (which does not open before the first Omakase dining slot at 5:30 pm), we weren't quite sure what to expect. When we told them we were there for the Omakase dinner at 5:30 pm, the staff kindly let us in out of the heat while they continued to prepare the space for service in both the lounge and restaurant. They don't have a liquor license so all cocktails are sake-based, but none the less enjoyable. They also offer beer and wine. We were offered a menu while we waited, and yes - any drink you purchase in the lounge may accompany you to your dining experience. You can also add on a sake-pairing to your omakase meal for $55 each. We very much enjoyed a Yuzu Cocktail and the sake pairing. The customer service was fantastic, personable, and filled with intention - but if I were to provide constructive criticism - somewhat clumsy on the delivery. Chef Jae had everyone introduce themselves and included a Chef mentee on finishing up the plating of the sushi. Chef Jae is talkative and clearly enjoys speaking with guests - this all lends itself to the homey feel of the experience - but some staff were so soft-spoken it was difficult to hear them as they introduced our sake pairings, and sometimes the service seemed poorly timed with the courses. I think with a little rehearsal of how they want to approach dinner service (mainly timing, introduction and flow) would provide some more confidence and better execution of the experience they clearly wished to impart. The food was fantastic, and truly felt like a journey. Everything is prepared in house, and of the best quality. My husband and I are sure to be thinking about our experience here for a long time, and will be recommending others to come check it out. Note: If an omakase experience is not in your budget, they also offer ala carte items.
