They also have a long list of rolls to choose from, both basic and fancy, as well as ramen and teriyaki plates, so there's something for everyone. They even have a 4-item kids menu. For the past few years, over the holidays we've done our feast of the seven fishes on Christmas Eve at sushi restaurants. So much easier than cooking at home and who doesn't like sushi? This year, we had to do takeout before an event in the evening, so we tried a new place in Sushi Nishi. First off, the staff was so helpful in labeling their packaging to make sure that we could keep track of our nigiri. Made it so easy. There was tons to choose from on the menu. I recently placed a take-out order from Sushi Nishi in Calabasas, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. When I arrived to pick up my food, I politely asked the woman at the front desk if I could get some ginger. She was noticeably rude, never made eye contact, and made the interaction feel uncomfortable. She handed me one tiny portion, and when I asked for a little more, she reluctantly gave me just one extra piece. It was awkward enough that I decided to just pay and leave. Once I got home, I realized there was no ginger included with any of the sushi, so if I hadn't asked, I wouldn't have received any at all. The bag also had no napkins, chopsticks, or even forks -- something you would expect to be standard with a take-out order. As for the food, one of my items was the teriyaki chicken with tempura. The chicken was extremely rubbery and almost inedible. The tempura batter instantly fell off the vegetables, which were still raw inside. The miso soup was bland and didn't even contain any tofu. Between the poor front-desk service, the lack of basic take-out essentials, and the disappointing food quality, I can confidently say there are much better Japanese restaurants in the area for the same price -- with far better service and food. Great place for fairly priced, decent eats. Stopped by here last week as we had an hour before our next meeting. I love sushi places that are upfront and honest on their menus that they use "krab" (imitation crab meat) so it saves me the hassle of having to ask this and readjust my order. They do offer real crab for one of their rolls though., I had the miso marinated black cod plate ($27), making it one of the pricier items on the menu, but is my go to for light lunches. While it isn't the most top shelf style I've had, it is still very good, and I finished every morsel on my plate. Normally, miso cod dishes are use a more reduction-style, so it's less saucy, but packs greater flavor. Here, they use a more watered down sauce, and even give you a side of sauce, but you know what? It works! My friend ordered some spicy chicken rice plate, but I didn't love it. Tasted college-level cafeteria style to me. Service is decent, and I'll be happy to pop in here again. read more

We were greeted right when we walked through the door. For a Saturday night we were got a table right away. This review is purely based on one grubhub order, but I am impressed, not just by the quality of the food, but the way they packed it up for us. I have never had a sushi restaurant put an ice pack within our to go boxes to keep the fish cold, and I couldn't believe they did that for us. The rolls are all flavorful and the right size (generous, but not too big for your mouth) , the nigiri is fresh and a smooth cut of fish, and the rice is fresh. The rice was the bow on top (rice texture/flavor/temp really makes or breaks the sushi) Overall bravo, I hope it's not just a one off, I would like to visit the restaurant soon read more

Happy to have found a new sushi spot that delivers quality sushi and friendly prompt service. I came for lunch on a weekday right at opening and was quickly seated. There was only two tables seated but by the time I left they had developed a nice little crowd, but still had plenty of seating. Seeing how popular they got for an early weekday lunch I could imagine this spot gets traffic on the weekends. Good for them. The restaurant was very clean and spacious. Plenty of tables and openings to sit at the sushi bar. Pro tip for us travelers is that they also have clean restrooms. Score! The service was a solid 10/10. The staff here are super friendly and kind. I was checked up on multiple times throughout my meal in a thoughtful way. Any little thing I needed they were quick to bring me what I needed. While the lunch could have been leisurely, I appreciated that they were prompt and were able to get me in and out as I had limited time for lunch due to traveling. Great people work here who deserve your business. The sushi & my meal were a solid 8/10 rating. Super quality sushi and the freshness was there. I don't typically love when restaurants make rolls with the seaweed on the outside BUT the fish was so fresh that each bite was super tasty and I found I didn't mind the seaweed as much here. I had simple rolls. I ordered a spicy salmon roll which was my favorite as they don't skimp on the fish and spice was mild but flavorful. I also ordered a lunch bento box with teriyaki chicken and a California roll. Simple and not really adventurous choices but I was craving the basics. The California roll was tasty and the teriyaki chicken was well cooked with a tasty sauce, not too thick and had good flavor. The sides were typical for any bento box - miso soup, salad, and rice - nothing special about the sides but fine. A good accompaniment to the main course. Last pro tip: they have the best wasabi here! It had a nice quick and they were generous with the side portion of it. I'm a sucker for good wasabi and had to give them credit. The prices here are middle of the road, not a steal but also not overpriced for the quality and atmosphere. Glad to have found a new sushi spot in Calabasas and I would definitely recommend giving this spot a try next time your in town. read more

Came right at 5pm on a Tuesday and we were seated right away as a group of 8. We ordered a number of items and overall everything was delicious! We ordered the garlic edamame, calamari, and mixed vegetable tempura. The calamari was all rings and was more of fried snack. They were ok. The garlic edamame was covered in chili flakes and garlic and was decent. The vegetable tempura was my favorite, the tempura batter wasn't too think but also still crunchy. Good choice of vegetables and sauce. The rolls were all delicious. Everything was fresh and put together so well. I have really nothing else to say because everything was great. The crispy rice cake was a nice play on a crispy tuna appetizer and the crispy onion draped roll was delightful with delicate onion flavor. Had a nice lunch here on Friday. They have a nice outdoor space setup, and service was lovely. The tempura appetizer was just okay, I found the batter to be a bit heavy and dense. Second them I tried this place in a few years and need to remind myself not again... first time i remember the portion sizes being extremely small for the price ... Well I'm in area and hankering for sushi and one of the most recent reviews says the dragon roll is amazing- great eel is my favorite. Dragon roll has barely ANY eel, it's all avocado on top. Essentially an $18 California roll. Other roll was small portions as well. If your hungry pass and head over to Erewon. Still sitting in the parking lot writing this review . I walked in and ordered one roll. Dragon roll. When I was brought the wasabi and ginger, I tasted the wasabi and it tasted weird. I tasted it again and it tasted spoiled and was not wasabi spicy at all and when I asked for New or fresh wasabi I was told it would be a four dollar charge. I explained what was wrong with the wasabi and I got shrugged shoulders. So at that point, I just decided to get up and leave. Could not believe the terrible customer service. If this is how they handle their wasabi, I can only imagine how they handle their fish. read more

I am always surprised where good sushi places are located in the Summit at Calabasas next to Jersey Mikes. I'm actually surprised I haven't gone here before because I pass by here all the time. Since it is a big shopping plaza, there's plenty of parking but I suggest parking at a distance to give yourself a nice walk after eating sushi here. The staff was very friendly and polite. We beat the dinner rush so we were seating quickly. They have some ample room indoors and a nice outdoor patio with some bistro lighting. We wanted to get a large party platter (because I LOVE sushi) but you need to order it 2 days in advance. So we ended up ordering almost all of the menu. I'll just highlight a few of my favorites; the New Nishi Roll was like a literal sushi salad. It was different and definitely not traditional but I loved the flavors. The salmon, albacore, toro and the spicy tuna was amazing quality. Its also hard to find some good udon outside of Little Tokyo and this place has some pretty flavorful udon. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the LA Chargers lost when we came which made me eat more sushi. I really enjoyed my experience here nonetheless and I definitely will be coming back for my future sushi cravings. read more

Ordered Miso Black Cod Dinner $27.00. Specifically requested I did not want any tail pieces. The server asked the chefs and assured me I would not get any. Dish came one of the 2 pieces was the very end of the tail 20% bitter bloodline. The pieces were about 5oz total, there were 2 spears of asparagus about 4 inches long, 2 green onion the same size and 1/4 of a cup of corn. I ate the good piece of fish, 3 bites. I asked them to charge $13.00 for that piece and sent the rest back. They complied. My wife's chx teriyaki was very bland. The ginger and miso soup was OK. read more
