    Nozawa Trust Me
    Ashley P.

We took our Sugarfish to the beach and loved how easy it was to enjoy thanks to their takeout box style. They tell you which sauces and garnishes to use for each fish which I felt was really thoughtful. The cuts of fish are pretty generous, my favorite was the salmon. I got the Nozawa Trust Me and substituted the sea bream and crab for more yellowtail and salmon. Honestly there is better sushi in LA for sure and I think Sugarfish is a little bit overhyped, but it's still good and just love the convenience of how they do takeout.

Tried Sugarfish again after a few years. Two of us ordered: 2 nozawa lunches $40 ea auto 16% servie charge Food comes with edamame. tuna and chutoro sashimi albaore sushi salmon sushi toro hand roll chutoro sushi japanese yellow tail sushi seabream sushi hirame sushi blue and dungeness crab hand roll Not too busy...small line right when opening. Overall, food was good. Service could definitely be a bit faster and more attentive. Should be able to find parking in the plaza.

This was a great experience as usual. Love these locations for their consistency and high quality of fish. The service is always polished and the atmosphere was great, plenty of places to walk around while waiting for a table. If you are looking for a reliable, high-end sushi experience where you know exactly what to expect in terms of freshness and preparation, this is the place to go. It remains the top choice for sushi in the area.

Surprisingly my first time at Sugarfish, despite many years of eyeing their different locations. Sugarfish is know for their quality cuts of nigiri and for being uber fresh. This location doesn't take reservations and is typically pretty busy so be prepared. We waited under 10 minutes for a table for a late lunch so we were feeling pretty lucky. This restaurant is a well oiled machine as the crowds keep coming and the fresh plates of fish doesn't stop cranking out from the sushi chefs. I will say that the staff were kind and that the service was fast and efficient. They don't skip a beat. My friends and I opted for the Nozawa Trust Me special (each) which included: -Edamame -Tuna Sashimi -Salmon -Scallop -Albacore -Blue Crab Hand Roll -Toro Hand Roll -Hirame -Yellowtail -Sea Bream The three of us agreed that all of the fish was super fresh, delicate, buttery, and delicious. Also the prices are insanely reasonable for the amount of food that you get. For under $50 a person we were absolutely stuffed. I'm also going to dream of that fresh scallop nigiri as that was absolutely my favorite. It was a good meal for sure and a very fun experience. The main reason I'm docking a star is that I had much higher expectations for this place. While the nigiri was fresh and the experience was fun, I do feel like I have had better sushi in the area without having to wait in like supporting a small mom and pop sushi restaurant. This spot was definitely good but not the best I've had/didn't 100% live up to the hype. Would I go back? Yes definitely. But I would also tell people that I think there are plenty other options just as good in the area/nearby.

My friend and I stopped by because he was craving sushi, and I mean good sushi. We arrived late, about an hour before closing and waited 20 minutes to be seated. The place was popping. The crowd was young, hip and dressed well. My friend has been here and other eateries in the small chain many times. He knew the menu by heart. The host was very accommodating in finding us a booth setting to the corner. I've been to Japan and always love seeing the authentic food combinations and flavors in a place like this with a solid chef in charge. We ordered the Trust me Medium because I wasn't very hungry. The first plate was edamame- fresh delicious and we soaked them in soy sauce which was so tasty and combo. Then the plates started coming out so fast we were still eating one and the second was right there- warm rice got cold. One server in particular seemed like she was having a bad day or something. She literally threw the plate on the table, worse than one would expect in a diner. The plate hadn't stopped spinning and she already had her back to us and was flying away. People two tables o we said she did the same thing to them. This is premium sushi and sashimi and any person dining here expects the ambiance and service to be part of the experience. This particular server glared at us from across the room and we summoned the manager who apologized. He promised she would not be serving us further. The manager was really chill and very kind and articulate. We finished before closing but the whole experience was pretty much ruined. I have never seen flippant, slamming and service with attitude like this in my life, even at places that charge 1/5 the prices. Will not be going back to this space. Sticking to my regular haunts.

LOVE THIS PLACE. Just really good basic sushi with warm rice. Not sure why more places don't do warm rice. Only downside is that they don't do reservations so there is basically always a wait. The trust me is enough food but the Nozawa trust me is worth it if you want a little more. Finally ordered the "Don't think just eat" and it included: Nigiri: Salmon kombu, albacore , bluefin ortoro Otoro hand roll Nigiri: Kampachi, sea bream with shiso leaf, pink lobster Lobster hand roll Anago eel nigiri Very good and glad I ordered it once to see but I'll go back to the trust me for budget reasons. Worth saving the money and going as often as possible ;)

Crowded. I made an order to go and I had to wait 1/2 an hour or so for one salmon cut roll. I like the way they package food to go. The staff is very nice. My food tasted good also. I'm glad I wasn't super hungry.

One of my all time favorite spots. The sushi is always fresh and hits just right. The dining experience is very nice I come with my family but a date night would be cute here and the lights dim as it gets later for ambiance. The service is consistently good as well.

I have been to this Sugarfish location many times and it never disappoints. They don't take reservations, but the wait is usually manageable (30 mins-an hour), and this time the wait was only 30 minutes even though the place was packed. I also like that even when the restaurant is full, it's not super loud. The servers are very fast and the food was delicious. We always get the Nozawa Trust Me and it always hits. The crab hand roll is 10/10. Will definitely be back.

The sushi is really fresh and delicious. It is kind of a pricey place but definitely worth it. I would come back again.

Top Notch, one of the best takeout sushi. Omakase is perfect for a lite eater, like me. I still Had a hard time eating it all. Presentation was perfect and enticing. Great customer service. I'm allergic to shellfish and the shrimp was immediately substituted!!! A definite must try. I've eaten at the restaurant before and you never know who's sitting close by... Cindy & Randy Crawford!

    Don't Think, Just Eat
    Brien E.

Food was fantastic quality. Paris (I think that's how it's spelled) was an extremely attentive server. The entire staff was extremely friendly. Fair priced food as well. It's a small location but it's well put together. Not the best date night spot because you can't set a reservation. (The only reason this isn't 5 stars). Other than that, it's a top tier sushi experience. Ordered the "Don't think just Eat" and was thoroughly impressed with the omakase style selection.

Atmosphere: The restaurant consisted of an open space- with the sushi bar at the back. Beyond the sushi bar, there are a significant number of tables within the restaurant-- as a party of two we were informed that we could not grab a table on the side of the restaurant. The restaurant did not provide a relaxing, calm environment to enjoy sushi. Instead, the space was super loud and congested. People were even on their phones at the sushi bar. It almost felt like a cafeteria. Service: Richard, "The Man" behind the sushi bar was wonderful: he was playful, a hard worker and made his rounds around the restaurant. He deserves a star!! Unfortunately, the restaurant fell short on overall service- as dishes lingered on the sushi bar until the space was filled by the next guest. Nothing turns me off more than piles of dishes. Plus, our dishes were adding up as nobody was picking up empty plates. The restaurant felt understaffed. Quality: The sushi was averaged. None of our dishes stood out. The fish did not smell or taste fishy which is good, but the food did not melt in my mouth. When you order belly, this should melt in your mouth. Overall: I was disappointed with my experience. Based on the cost that I spent, I would seek another sushi restaurant. Note, this place owns multiple restaurants- and each of them are different. They differ in size and atmosphere- the menus are pretty much the same.

Chef Jae guides you through a thoughtfully crafted $190 18 course "Taste Forest" that's sure to delight. When my husband and I showed up at the neighboring lounge (which does not open before the first Omakase dining slot at 5:30 pm), we weren't quite sure what to expect. When we told them we were there for the Omakase dinner at 5:30 pm, the staff kindly let us in out of the heat while they continued to prepare the space for service in both the lounge and restaurant. They don't have a liquor license so all cocktails are sake-based, but none the less enjoyable. They also offer beer and wine. We were offered a menu while we waited, and yes - any drink you purchase in the lounge may accompany you to your dining experience. You can also add on a sake-pairing to your omakase meal for $55 each. We very much enjoyed a Yuzu Cocktail and the sake pairing. The customer service was fantastic, personable, and filled with intention - but if I were to provide constructive criticism - somewhat clumsy on the delivery. Chef Jae had everyone introduce themselves and included a Chef mentee on finishing up the plating of the sushi. Chef Jae is talkative and clearly enjoys speaking with guests - this all lends itself to the homey feel of the experience - but some staff were so soft-spoken it was difficult to hear them as they introduced our sake pairings, and sometimes the service seemed poorly timed with the courses. I think with a little rehearsal of how they want to approach dinner service (mainly timing, introduction and flow) would provide some more confidence and better execution of the experience they clearly wished to impart. The food was fantastic, and truly felt like a journey. Everything is prepared in house, and of the best quality. My husband and I are sure to be thinking about our experience here for a long time, and will be recommending others to come check it out. Note: If an omakase experience is not in your budget, they also offer ala carte items.
