I was in town last weekend visiting my bff who knows I'm a huge Top Chef fan and had been dying to visit this restaurant! We went for lunch and were seated right away at the bar (a table would have been a wait and they seemed short staffed that day). The bartender whose name I don't recall, was amazing - he was friendly, funny, really knew the menu, and made delicious drinks! I had the spicy margarita and my friend had a grapefruit drink that's name escapes me. She had the turkey wrap (because she was bummed the yes sir yes ma'am was no longer on the menu) and I knew immediately I was having the pimento cheese sandwich - it has bacon, tomatoes, and DELICIOUS pimento cheese - my mouth is watering just typing this!! We both had fries and everything was amazing! The restaurant is cute, I love the toys up front for kiddos to play w while they're waiting, and I loved the overall ambiance of the venue. My party of 4 dined for dinner and we had a pleasant but not exceptional experience. We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp for the appetizer and it came to the table very fast. For the main course we waited over an our for our plates. The restaurant had empty tables so I'm not sure what the cause was for the wait. A fantastic eatery in Dothan, Alabama that I had heard only raves and great things about. After multiple locals recommended here and I found myself finishing up business just before lunch, so what better time to check this place out? The restaurant has a great vibe, it has ambiance to spare and the servers fluttered about between the tables, bringing plates loaded with amazing looking food. I had it narrowed down to two sandwiches, the Three Little Pigs and the Burnt Ends Melt, decisions, decisions, decisions. I ended up going with the Three Little Pigs and upgraded to a potato salad instead of chips. This lunch was solid. The sandwich was a pork nirvana and the potato salad made me want to get home and try to recreate the recipe. For desert I tried a peanut butter type dessert, with peanut butter, peanuts, and I would say rice krispies, baked and served with chocolate topping it. I am not a big dessert person, but this was an exceptional way to end a great lunch. If you find yourself in Dothan, do yourself a favor and head here for lunch. read more

I was in Dothan to see a friend and she took me to KBC. She said that she didn't make a reservation, but if we arrive right when they open they should be able to accommodate us. They were in fact able to seat us right away. Our server Jennifer was incredible! Hi Jen!! She explained the menu by pulling out some top sellers and also her favorites which is always great to hear. She really sold us on the pork shank special though. I mean, it didn't take much because I was pretty much sold on just the description alone. The pork shanks were slow cooked and served with a mushroom ragu. They were then plated on top of a bed of grits. We also ordered the wicked chickens (deviled eggs with brisket and okra on top) & Brussels sprouts. I also ordered a Foster Fizz (deep eddy's grapefruit vodka, tonic, lemon). The cocktail was good. It was very refreshing. But I feel like I can make it at home, so it was nothing extraordinary. That's honestly how I felt about their entire cocktail menu. Our entrees came out before the appetizers and when Jen noticed, she panicked! They brought out the appetizers soon after, and honestly it was nice to have everything at once. I do feel like we had to reassure them that it was okay, because it was. They really went so far out of their way to make it "right". Anyways, all of the food was incredible. The entree was like a warm and fuzzy hug. The deviled eggs were really good, and the Brussels were great too! The only picture I managed to get was of the entree. So for a Saturday brunch, my sister suggested us try KBC. The owner won American Top Chef which was pretty impressive, so I had pretty high hopes for the restaurant. KBC is located in downtown Dothan on a road that is very cute with several trendy and hip establishments. The area kind of reminded me of a little 5 points. When we went inside KBC, I was super impressed that the owner decided to keep the integrity of the building. It had a lovely vintage and rustic feel. The place had character. The set up was very simple with you ordering at a stand and you getting a number for the server to drop your food off at your table. Similar to Atlanta Bread. I decided to order the Laura which was a spinach wrap with turkey, sprout, avocado, tomato, cucumber, and ranch dressing. The sandwich was very tasty, but the turkey was a little too salty. I really loved the contrast of the ranch with sprout and other yummy veggies in the wrap. My sister tried the burger and my niece had the brisket biscuit. Both were excellent. We enjoyed are brunch with some mimosas. We order a bottle which was a tad bit expensive, but so worth it. KBC is a gem in Dothan. Second time at KBC. Last visit was exceptional. This time, not so much. The service was great, we experienced a brief wait but expected this. We ordered from the lunch menu as it was after one on Saturday. We ordered the Bees Knees with fries and vinegar slaw and a Mo burger sans bun. My sister enjoyed her burger bowl, said it was "fire". My chicken sandwich was a huge disappointment. One, the chicken was in a finger cut style, they were tough. I expect a better quality of chicken from an establishment of this reputation. It was not warm and the condiments were non existent. Bees knees: put some honey on it. The vinegar slaw was just that, vinegar. Add some salt. I missed the appetizers from my first evening visit. I have been to KBC 3 times and to be honest, it seems like a mixed bag each time. The first time, I had the burnt ends sandwich with potato salad. The burnt ends came on a Texas toast with some kind of cheese and BBQ sauce. I thought the burnt ends was a little dry, but overall the sandwich was satisfying. The potato salad was the style of baked potato with sour cream and chives. It was pretty good. The second time, which was definitely the most disappointing time of the three, was for a special night. It was a bourbon sampling night with a special BBQ menu and a band playing. It cost $15 to get in but then the BBQ plate was $25 too! And I should have took my money down to Full Moon and bought myself two 2-meat plates with pie for $40 instead! The BBQ menu was brisket or wings plus 3 sides and banana pudding, I think. The brisket was on the dry side and for $25, I was expecting phenomenal brisket. It wasn't awful brisket but it was nowhere close to great brisket. My sides for the night were mac and cheese, butterbeans, and potato salad. All were pretty good. The third time, I had the Uncle Bo burger. This was a well-crafted burger. It had the fresh hamburger meat taste as it came just off the grill. It came with bacon, gouda cheese, and a tangy sauce called KBC sauce. Compared to the other 2 entrees I had on my other visits, the burger was hands-down the best. Then, unfortunately, I made the mistake of choosing french fries for my side. These fries were a joke! They were sooo thinly sliced. I felt like I was almost eating air! About the only thing going for them was they didn't taste like cardboard. And I was charged $2 for them as a side. Sweet tea each time has been refreshingly sweet! Service, on the other hand, has been painfully slow and forgetful at times to check on me. Yes, I will go eat at KBC again because there seems to be a lot of good pieces that I have just not been able to put together. Right now, I would give it a 3.5. So disappointing. I was here in Dothan a few days for work and was referred to this restaurant based on their unique deviled eggs. I started with those (ok), ordered a dozen XL VA raw oysters, and concluded with a cornflake chocolate chip cookie. First off... I was seated at the overflow dining area at the front of the door. I was freezing considering it was 59 F outside. This was a Wednesday at 5:20 PM!! I didn't even get to enter the restaurant!! I felt so unwelcomed at my table for 1. The oysters had no salt water and were flushed with tap water. The waitress was friendly but not qualified to be a server at this over-priced, pretentious restaurant. The oysters did not arrive with saltines NOR hot sauce. I HAD TO ASK on two separate occasions. The hot sauce was needed to choke down the tasteless oysters which were served with horseradish and an unappealing wine / vinegar condiment... even worse... garnished with micro greens and cilantro. The pairings were so off. The homemade, delicious cookie made my depressing experience remind me of home and wish I'd never have entered this establishment. Go to Full Moon BBQ instead. read more

Host at entrance had young energy. Food: we ordered drinks and appetizers. 20 minute wait for drinks, 30 minute for coconut shrimp (nothing special served on wilted sad lettuce) and one hour after we ordered dinner, our paultry dinners were set down. What to do?? Tacos served cold. Braised ribs? You get enough for a 5 year old, or a very old lady. Snapper? A gloppy mess, most unimpressive presentation. Their excuse? They were busy. Maybe inside, but patio was quiet, with the occasional fig bomb, which was kind of funny. If I owned this restaurant, I would be embarrassed and ashamed to serve up this kind of nonsense. Ridiculous. We couldn't even take pictures for proof, as we were in a state of shock. Look elsewhere for a satisfying meal. Day of my reservation I go to the restaurant and was told they could not find my reservation and that I would have to wait at minimum an hour before my party could be seated. I have heard only wonderful things and had to try it. It is such a charming eatery in downtown. We ate outside lights and peaceful vegetation growing along the brick walls were the perfect environment for a nice dinner. We got an appetizer of the wicked chicken. I could eat them for a meal. The smoky brisket, crispy okra, and cheese are a perfect topping. The brussels sprouts are a must if you are a fan of brussels. The snapper pontchartrain was fresh, light, and perfectly cooked. It was aggressively seasoned in the right way. It was served over Gouda grits. They were creamy, salty, and cheesy. The ribeye was cooked to perfection. It was absolutely delicious with the chimichurri and truffle fries. We got the cornflake chocolate cookie because I heard such great things. I prefer a softer cookie but the crispiness from the cornflakes was very satisfying. The star was definitely the Hummingbird Cake! Fluffy, sweet, and heavenly. The brownie wouldn't be something I would choose again. Could be great if you want a chocolate fix. I will be coming back next time I'm in the area! read more

Then for the main menu our food took over an hour to come out and it was cold. Slow on the service with less than stellar food when there is a limited menu. Being a huge fan of Top Chef, eating at a restaurant owned by a winner is a huge privilege, and reason for excitement if you are a foodie/chefie type like me. I was excited to be able to visit KBC and was not surprised when it was busy around lunch time. Not overly busy, and there are lots of seats, still there was a 8 - 10 minute line to order at the counter. I decided on the burnt ends melt with chips. I grabbed a magazine to read about the owner's experience on Top Chef. Now let me say I am not a sandwich kind of guy normally, and that is the kind of place this is: sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, etc... you get the idea. So I can not knock them for being a sandwich place, because that is what the place is. My burnt ends were good, really good and did not need sauce at all, which means they also were NOT dry. The chips were homemade and solid as well. The service was not remarkable, and again it is not the kind of place where you get table service. Think Chipotle's, or Newk's as far as style of service. It did take about 40 minutes to get my sandwich, which was longer than I had anticipated. So, if you want fantastic, high quality sandwiches, soups, salads, etc.. this is a place you will enjoy.
