My friend and I tired the Pho Lao today. It's kind of similar to kathiew. It's really good here, I usually add a ton of chili oil. They ask you beforehand if you're okay with shrimp or not which I really appreciated. And of course, their also papaya salad is my go-to. Whenever I am craving some Thai food and don't want to drive far, I head straight to KB's Thai Hut! The food there is consistent and my orders are always ready on time for me to pick them up. The restaurant is located in a small plaza close to my house, which makes it really convenient to visit. When entering, you're greeted by welcoming staff and a short wait time as it's not always too busy there all the time. It is also small inside the restaurant, but that adds to the comforting feeling it gives off. My favorite item on the menu is the drunken noodles with chicken, and I usually pick 3 out of 5 for my spice level. I like that they allow you to choose how spicy you want your food because they are considerate of all spice tolerance levels. If I'm not ordering the drunken noodles, I'm getting the Pad Thai with chicken! I usually place orders over the phone as I tend to get KB's with my family, and they prepare the order so quickly. From my sister's house to the restaurant, it's about 6-7 minutes. After placing my order, it's usually done in 10-15 minutes which is really fast for 3-4 items at a time! We wanted to check out a new Thai spot for kaopoon and found this place nearby for a weekday lunch. We were seated immediately and ended up being the only customers there for the entire meal. We ordered the chicken satay, kaopoon, and thum salad (Thai-style papaya salad). The food came out quickly, but unfortunately each dish was very mediocre. The flavors felt muted and underseasoned, and nothing tasted particularly fresh or vibrant. We arrived pretty hungry and still didn't leave feeling very satisfied. Hands down my favorite restaurant. I've been coming here for a while now and this place never disappoints. Seating is practically immediate even though there's still good business indoors. The workers are quick and kind. The food options are great. I love how they have both Thai and authentic Lao cuisine. They make some of the best Lao papaya salads I've had in Sacramento. I got the XL sampler's platter and ordered chicken wings, Lao papaya salad (spicy 2), coco shrimp, and potstickers. Everything is so fresh and flavorful, as well as filling. I don't usually drive 30 minutes outside of Sacramento for a weeknight meal, although I know Elk Grove has its fair share of good restaurants. However, I had to try this place. With the wide range of Thai options, I've been on the hunt for the best of the best, and I've heard KB's mentioned a few times now. There was no wait, and the inside was very calm and welcoming. Not super dim and moody like a lot of Thai restaurants (which I love), but I still liked the overall ambience, and the staff was nice. I was really impressed with the menu, a mix of Thai and Lao dishes that made the experience feel authentic. I was especially interested in the Lao street food section, but ultimately went with the tofu satay appetizer, pad se ew with tofu, and phanaeng curry with beef, and finished with a classic: mango sticky rice. The tofu satay was interesting and not something I'd normally order, but it was unique. The crispy exterior gave way to a soft texture inside. The peanut sauce it came with wasn't great, but I honestly enjoyed the tofu by itself. The pad se ew actually came out first, but all the food came quickly. The noodles were perfectly saucy without being too heavy, had a nice spice at the #2 level, and included small tomatoes I've never seen in the dish before, but they actually worked really well. Super addictive to eat. The phanaeng curry was excellent. I usually don't go for curry, even though Thai curries are fantastic, since I'm more of a noodle guy. But this one was outstanding. They didn't skimp on the meat or veggies, and the mushrooms in particular were meaty and satisfying. The curry itself hit that perfect balance of heat and coconut sweetness and paired perfectly with the rice. The mango sticky rice was good, maybe a little too sweet, and the rice slightly on the dry side, but the mango was juicy and fresh. I've had better, but I'm not too picky when it comes to dessert. The portions were huge with guaranteed leftovers for everything except the sticky rice. Prices were super fair compared to Thai restaurants in downtown Sacramento. Definitely worth the drive in my opinion, and I'd love to come back, especially to try the Lao street food and some of the more obscure dishes I've never had before. read more

It's small/cozy in here and crowded but not surprising once you eat their food. This place will make you come back again and again. I've ordered the Nam Khao salad from here plenty of times. It's my go-to potluck dish. It's not too spicy for me but the mix of herbs, crispy rice, and savory bits of meat goes so well in a lettuce wrap. It feels light like an appetizer but will sometimes last me for two meals. It's tough to find this dish in LA (especially on the westside) so I love it when I can get it in Sac. Was looking for a new Thai restaurant to try out and KB's Thai Hut definitely didn't disappoint. This might be my new favorite Thai spot in the area! Family and I came around noon for lunch and it wasn't that busy when we arrived, but I saw a decent amount of pick up and to go orders were being placed. Servers were attentive as they refilled our waters whenever we ran out. We ordered beef pad thai, curry, khao piek and chicken drunken noodles. The food came out after a reasonable amount of time and was piping hot. The portions for the noodles were really generous. For the pad thai, we ordered it with a level 4 spice and it definitely delivered. Wish the curry had a bit more protein, but it wasn't insultingly lacking. I was debating between khao piek and khao poon and asked the server to pick one for me, so it ended up being the first time I tried khao piek! My mom definitely enjoyed it a lot and essentially traded with me and ate most of it, which is a win in my book when she tries something new and likes it. Food overall left me pretty impressed because the dishes tasted way more authentic than many of the other Thai spots I've been to (and had more than the basics on the menu). Vibes of the place were so cute, it felt very cozy and home-y, as if I was really at an auntie's house being fed. 11/10 recommend and definitely will be returning whenever I'm in the Sac/EG area -- come support! read more

First of all, it's a pet peeve of mine when I call a business and they answer with just a "hello".... identify your business!! You're not just chilling in your bedroom so don't answer like it. But the person who took my order really lacked any personality at all. I ordered panang curry with chicken and shrimp and some wings. The curry was super thin and bland and it had MAYBE 4 shrimp in the whole container. I had to add some flavor of my own to keep from throwing it away. The chicken wings were not able to be saved. The broth was incredibly flavorful, rich, and aromatic. If you enjoy authentic textures, the chicken feet were prepared perfectly. This is the dish I'll be coming back. Pad See Ew & Drunken Noodles (Beef): Both were solid. The beef was tender, and the sauce was flavorful. We ordered a Level 3, which provided a perfect kick without overpowering the ingredients. Basil Fried Rice (Beef): It felt a bit dry and lacked basil flavor I was looking for. I'd likely skip this next time in favor of more noodles. The "Yai Champo" Laos Salad. Fair warning if you are used to Thai-style Papaya salad: the Laos style is a different beast! It includes noodles and has a very strong, pungent, fishy flavor profile. KB Thai Hut is a little hole in the wall restaurant that has amazing food! It is located in the taco bell plaza and there were plenty of seats when we came for dinner. The staff was very nice and came in to check in on us throughout our dinner, which I appreciated. My friend and I decided to share a chicken yellow curry, khao piak and the nam kao which were all delicious! The khao piak was warm and comforting on a chilly day and I loved the chicken feet in it as well. This was my first time trying Nam kao and I loved the flavors and textures of the rice with the lettuce. KB's Thai Hut is one of those places I would describe as solidly mediocre. There are a couple dishes that stand out. The drunken noodles are good, and the mango chicken is probably the highlight for me. When you order the right items, you can walk away pretty satisfied. But overall, it just feels very middle of the road. Not bad, not great, just kind of there. They have a pretty extensive menu with a lot of options, and you can customize spice levels which is nice. It gives you flexibility, but it also feels like they try to do a lot of things without really excelling at most of them. Consistency is also an issue. Some dishes come out flavorful and well balanced, while others feel off or underwhelming. It really depends on what you order and maybe even the day. For me, this is more of a convenience spot than a destination. I go when I do not feel like driving far and do not want to deal with inflated delivery prices. It gets the job done, but I am not going out of my way for it. Overall, not a bad place, just not one I would go out of my way to recommend. I go here so often, yet I'm finally reviewing. This is definitely a must-go to restaurant. The food is so good here! I'm no expert in Thai and Laotian food, but the food is incredibly flavorful, so fresh. The owners are incredibly hospitable. The woman would check in on us throughout our meal to make sure everything was ok, and she was so thoughtful. She saw that we were sharing multiple dishes, and brought out extra utensils for each dish. Basically, I feel like I'm working my way down their menu. So far, there is not a single "bad" dish. My favorite dishes from here are their papaya salad (both Thai and Lao styles), pad see ew, kaopoon, nam khao. Their kaopoon is very generously sized. Be prepared to share it. For today, we got the basil fried rice. I think I would love a little bit more char to the fried rice, but it was very flavorful, and has a good balance of ingredients (meat, basil, onions). We got "2" for spice, and it was an enjoyable amount of spice. Pad kee mao: I love that the noodles seem to be cut to various sizes and not a single size (I especially enjoy the large pieces of noodles). You can adjust the spice on this. We got "2" for spice, but I think it could use a little bit more spice, personally. Lao style papaya salad: Has a little bit more of a fishy taste. Cabbage for this dish is always so fresh. We added Thai eggplant, and it reminded me of cucumbers. It was so good. We got "2" for spice and it was pretty spicy...probably because the spice is swimming in the sauce is my guess. We got Thai coffee. I would enjoy it a bit more if it was a bit stronger in coffee taste and less sweet, but perhaps that is the style. Pad Thai was good too, thought I prefer less wet/soupy. Those were quickly devoured while the rest, we needed help and boxed them home. I like the atmosphere of this place but is not good for large group, esp if they are a bit... full size, lol. Table size is better for 4 rather than 6. The food flavor is not bad & I do taste the diff compare to other Thai restaurant. We order the Kaopoon seafood salad Lao style, the Lao noodles & the Mango dango chicken. The flavor of the white fungus was strong after it's been pickled & not chewy. The seafood was ok, the flavor of the sauce was overpowering. The portion for the noodles was not a lot, soup was ok, but def needed a good kick to it. As for the mango dango chicken, chicken are cut up in small pieces for frying & they give you quite a lot. So you will think it's a huge portion. The fried chicken was mixed in a mango sauce& topped with a few pieces of mango. The sauce was ok, but I think I had better. I didn't even know we had a Southeast Asian restaurant in the Calvine area until I was out running errands in the area. I was so ecstatic and went in to try. Their cuisine has Thai and Laotian fare. I like how authentic it is with serving us water from cups in silver ramicans like they would in Thailand/Laos. The added cultural aspect is a nice touch. The servers were all sweet too and food came promptly. I tried their Thai boat noodles and their version of curry noodle soup was good but slightly on the sweeter side. I also tried their rice plates and it was decently portioned and equally flavorful. Their sweet mango and sticky rice was really good too and not too sweet. First time here! This was the best Kapoon I've ever had. We came in on New Years Day and there were plenty of seats thankfully! I ordered Kapoon and it came out pretty quickly, which was unexpected considering how good it tasted! First bite in and the sauce is slathered with creaminess with perfect texture noodles. We came here for dinner. The restaurant is small, so I can see it getting quite busy. I was hungry, and may have over ordered a little bit. We started with the chicken wings. They were crispy and flavorful. We also shared the nam kao, which is one of my go tos when I see it on the menu. I've had better at other places. I prefer the meat to not be in bite size pieces. My friend also found a small caterpillar on the lettuce. I won't fault them too much for it... I'm glad it wasn't me. We showed this to them, and it was taken off the bill. I came here for dinner on Saturday due to a friend's recommendation and I'm surprised I didn't try this place sooner. I could tell it's a popular spot because there were always a few to go boxes coming out of the kitchen. The place is fairly small but had a decent amount of seating and was located in a plaza with ample parking. Our table was waiting on one more person to arrive and the server would periodically come by to check if we were ready to order. I didn't feel rushed but I felt bad for constantly declining until our friend came. After we ordered, the food didn't take too long to come out. I got their Pad Thai with chicken, my boyfriend got their Pad Khee Mao with beef, and we shared the coconut shrimp. The coconut shrimp had a nice crispy batter and came with a super tasty and creamy peanut sauce. For our entrees, we both got level 4 spicy and thought it was a good level, but could have probably have amped it up to level 5. The pad thai was delicious. It wasn't too sweet or saucy, but wasn't too dry either. Both entree portions were huge and came with a lot of protein, so we ended up taking a good amount home. I thought the dish was a great value, since it was only $12.95! At other restaurants, pad thai is usually at least $20 and portions are way smaller.
