The food was OK but for the price we expected better service, the server should put the ground pepper on our food, not just hand us the grinder, the server should take the plates away not just say I'll be back for them, the server should check back to see if things are OK. Normally - KC prime has been a pleasurable experience and the wait staff and food has been great. The following feedback is subjective based on my germophohia: Today, I witnessed a waitress spend 20 minutes at the bar picking her teeth and a patron sneezing in the bar area. I have only dined here for Sunday brunch, and I have to say that I'm a fan. I'd suggest reservations, there was a bit of a wait for walk-ins. The brunch itself is a fairly typical buffet-style offering: a nice mix of breakfast and dinner favorites including a few of the obligatory stops (Eggs Benedict, prime rib, bagels with a myriad of toppings including smoked salmon, made-to-order omelette station). The quality of the food was above average, and the staff was very on point with keeping the trays topped off with fresh foods. The dessert station was interesting, featuring primarily bite sized pieces. I enjoyed the set up as it allowed me to sample more of the offerings without having to be a complete glutton. The ambiance is quite nice, comfortable seating, dark woods throughout, but the lighting was a bit dim, particularly noticeable on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The natural comparison point for KC Prime's brunch is the only other major local entry in the field over at Grounds for Sculpture. While the experience is nearly as luxurious or memorable as the one Rat's provides, it is also literally half the price. So, special occasion celebrations will continue to go to Rat's, but KC Prime is a consolation prize that shouldn't disappoint. read more

KC Prime did an outstanding job! We wanted to book a special surprise dinner for 15-20 people for my Step-Dad's 70th birthday. I had been to KC Prime for dinner, brunch, a friend's birthday, so I suggest it to my Mom. We stopped in to inquire about a private event and were put in touch with Tina. Tina was great to work with, easy to reach, very responsive and met all or needs and questions in getting things set up. The night of our dinner I arrived a little early to decorate with a few items. The room was perfect. Our servers Devin and Paul introduced themselves and were helpful from the jump. The owner Phil even took time to stop by to say hello. I consider myself a Steak expert and this place had the best Filet I have ever eaten. Juicy and tender and seasoned perfectly. Started with a shrimp cocktail and was shocked when I received 5 extra large shrimp. So crisp and fresh. Cocktail sauce was fantastic. Then you get a fresh salad and warm bread. My wife got a nice Prime Rib that was large and tender. No fat at all. We both had leftovers. Our waitress Jetera was the best. She was friendly and attentive and took real good care if our needs. Over the past years I've watched KC Prime slowly decline. Siblings and I took our mother there for Mother's Day dinner just last night and I will say the quality of the food, even the ambience has changed for the worst. We decided to try this place after several years back which was an average experience. The feeling now is the same or worse. We spent 58/pp roughly ($235) for a family of 4. I don't mind paying more IF the experience was good, but overpriced for the value! 2 of the 4 orders were overcooked (steak frites and prime rib). They took forever and had to redo the already overcooked and then what was too rare (Vs medium) temp on the 2nd try! No credit or apologies from the Mgmt and simply dropped the redone entrees off. The place was barely busy on Friday evening. The ambiance was like was more a pub vs a restaurant, staff moving tables/stuff around, prepping for next day, and disappearing for 10mins at times; no water refills, unseasoned sides and long turnarounds. Waiter was nice (when he was there) but not in control clearly. Almost a family operation and we're more interested in closing it seemed than serving their paying customers for a "prime" experience that I'd say was poor instead. What do you do when an elderly Belgian gentleman tells you to go to KC Prime to try a draft beer. If you are like me, you go. The beer in question was Kronenbourg 1664 blanc, and it was great! But I made a rookie mistake in this establishment that I have dined at numerous times. I did not order a steak. But it was lunch and I wasn't even that hungry. Still, I knew better and still opted for their cheesesteak. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. You certainly can get something as good or better in many nearby places, and for half the price. My point being, when you come here you really should stick with steak. They do that very well. I've experienced several other menu items here, and they are hit or miss. This is a really good place for older family members, very straightforward food, and usually utilizing quality ingredients. My service today was excellent, and for the most part that has been my experience. To be honest, that beer was so good it will probably bring me back in before it is tapped. I have been to KC Prime at least a couple dozen times over the past 10 years. In my opinion, I think that it is on the decline. Their menu has not change much, or at all, in a decade and their specials never change. My guess is that they had a good chef a while ago and eventually he left and they kept everything the way it was before he left. My wife and I went to KC Prime last night and I was really looking forward to a good steak. I ordered their cowboy aged ribeye, which has been offered as a special for at least my last five visits. It was not very good. It was tasteless and very very tough. The steak was not worth the 40 dollars that I paid. My wife's meal was better, but she order their apple desert and it was pretty bad. I used to come here often until I moved. Visiting my parents for Father's Day, we decided to come here because we had such pleasant experiences in the past. It has changed. When I called to make a reservation, the hostess (Brandy?) had an attitude. When we got there, they used us to open a new section, and put us in the worst part of the building, in the very very back corner. While I understand sometimes that has to be done, when we asked if we could sit somewhere else, the host got huffy, stomped off hosts' table, leaving us to stand there without explanation or even a word. When we go to the table in a section I never saw before, that looks like it came out of Austin Powers's wet dreams, we were disappointed. The menus looked like dirty diner menus with food stuck on them. The salt and pepper shakers and silverware were dirty. The appetizers (shrimp cocktail and spinach dip) were very good. My drink, bourbon sour, was weak on the sour. The malbecs were fine. I ordered the surf and turf medium rare. When it came out, it was well done. I didn't even have to cut it through the center to see that it was a piece of plastic. I sent it back, and the manager came out after HE cut it in half and said "That's medium rare; are you sure you don't want that? That's your steak." It was obviously well done. The fat skeevy little Danny Devito wannabe LIED to my face about the steak while showing it to me and arguing that it was medium rare. I have never been lied to like that at a restaurant before. I told him that he was wrong, and he told me "Fine. I'll cook one rare for you." He brought another steak, that was cooked like it was just pulled from the freezer -- there was no running juices whatsoever. For a $60 entree, you expect more. Worse yet, they took the entire plate back, not just the steak, and kept my lobster under a heat lamp, drying it out by the time they brought it back. I should preface this by saying that this review is for the Sunday Brunch at KC Prime. I should also say that it's like 2.5 stars in my head but there are no half stars on yelp and there should be. Just like there should be half points in Scattegories. That was some baaaaaad service. Like, oof. I went to brunch today with a bunch of my girlfriends and we are all servers, bartenders, in the industry, and very understanding of the perils of some customers and tables. We're also all pretty kickass servers and we know there are some key points to hit to make a customer feel that they are getting the minimum attention they require. I had to wait almost 10 minutes to get a glass of water in front of me. Not good when you're hungover, let me tell you. My friend arrived a little late and with her teensy 1 1/2 year old daughter. We didn't know she was bringing her, or we would have gotten a high chair brought earlier. No problem -- we asked a server. Then we asked another server. Then I asked the manager. Then we had to ask ANOTHER server (about 15 minutes have gone by at this point and we've all been to the buffet and back and still no high chair). Like, c'mon guys. It wasn't even that busy yet. It was like 11 in the morning. I think we could have looked past all of that nonsense if it weren't for the part where they actually charged us 10 bucks for a 1 1/2 year old tot who ate like a strawberry off her mom's plate and some eggs and left early because she needed her nap! We're not cheap and love going out to eat together but....dude, she's like a year old. They ALSO charge for coffee and soda! I've never heard of that at a brunch before--maybe juices and definitely alcoholic beverages but not fountain drinks or coffee. At least there were free refills. Jeez. The food was ok, the variety was outstanding, and if they would just fill up that eggs benedict thing more regularly, I think I would like that. All in all, a 19.99 brunch ain't bad. My daughter was invited to a surprise sleep over and my wife suggested we try this place. We put the top down on the Solara Saturday night and rolled down. We went around 6:15pm (the place fills up fast!) our only other attempt to dine here was missed when the only 'reservation' available was at 9:30P on a Saturday night. Nondescript NJ style location. Near the Quaker Bridge mall, located next to Gold's Gym. Parking lot was 1/2 packed with some serious wheels (a convertible Vette, one of the $100k boxy Mercedes SUV's, and a fleet of Lexuses/Lexi). It is very dark inside. We didn't get an optimal table location but they did seat us immediately without a reservation. I'm pushing 50 - this place reminded me (in a positive and sentimental way) of a steakhouse you might have gone to with your parents for a "special event" (e.g. Dads birthday) back in the 70's. The large booths seemed fun (with the high backs) but they might be a bit run down. I noticed a lot of families here - many with well dressed children in tow. I don't know if they were at an early wedding our something, but they were all seriously well behaved. The noise abatement in the restaurant was good, I didn't notice other tables conversations or unruly kids where we sat, but if the possibility of kid at the table nearby isn't your thing, I would hold out for a booth. Another reviewer chided the hostesses for being grim and disinterested. We had the opposite experience - the hostesses were young, friendly, eager to greet us. Also, our hostess was seriously cute. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, with service tending a bit toward the overly friendly (which I'm ok with but some folks aren't). He talked about his miserable golf game, while providing some eye candy for my wife. One reviewer found the wine list "short" - Clos Du Val is a perfectly fine cabernet, I checked the list and got a Charles Krug cab for $42. If you read the fine print they have a reserve wine list you may request. I actually found the wine list liberating. I'm a major wine geek (I've consumed collectable wines that have been valued up to $2,000) but I was just looking for an entertaining night out with decent meal. I checked out their reserve list on line and it rounds up the usual suspects with Heitz Cellars ($250) and Opus One ($250) in the lineup. For an appetizer I had a crab bisque (which was great) and my wife had the ubiquitous Caesar Salad which was well executed. When in Rome... I ordered the 12 ounce prime rib with wasabi mashed potatoes (outstanding!) and creamed spinach. The prime rib comes with a side of sundried tomato horseradish sauce. My wife had the petite filet and requested the wasabi mashed instead of the mashed sweet potatoes. When they screwed up the substitution they immediately corrected it by bringing her portion of the wasabi mashed to the table. All the food was excellent, the steaks were perfectly cooked. We skipped dessert considering we just ate about 1000 calories and 40% of mine were fat because I couldn't skip the bisque. Bill came to $101 (with a $42 bottle of vino). I gave our server a $25 tip and we rolled out. As we were leaving a queue was forming outside to get in. Go early or go late - or reserve in advance. I'd go back. The service was makeshift but very attentive. I'm not sure who my server actually was, but I was with a decent sized party of 5 and someone was always buzzing around the table. The food was spot on excellent and I think all but one person at the table agreed. That one person sent their steak back for being overdone (he wanted medium rare I believe). A server apologized and later shared that "I've been here for 3 months now and that's only the 2nd steak I've ever seen sent back". So maybe it was the restaurant, but maybe it was the coworker. And now, for my 100th review. I have been to KC Prime countless times over the last few years for lunch, dinner, and the Sunday brunch. Not once have I had a bad experience. The service is always attentive and the food always good. This isn't a five star, fine dining experience but it is a consistently good meal. Last night I had the Kobe burger. This is the second time I have tried Kobe beef. What stood out to me was the juiciness of the meat. Incredible. Rather than the homemade chips that are typically served with the burgers, I requested the bourbon sweet mashed potatoes because they are just so darn delish. But I did steal a few of my nephew's chips and they were tasty. In the past I have had the filet and also the crab cakes. The quality of the meat was great, and the crab cakes are loaded with lump crab. Imagine that concept. One thing to note about this restaurant, there is never an issue with substitutions. They are always happy to accommodate. The restaurant is dark (aren't all steak houses?), decorated with leather and dark wood. My favorite place to sit is in the giant, private booths that can seat up to six. There is a fairly large bar when you first walk in and from what I understand, this is a popular Happy Hour spot. If you want a quality steakhouse, and don't want to travel to Philly or NYC to go to one of the steakhouse chains, check out KC Prime. read more

I went with a group of 5 people. First of all, let me review the ambiance. The place is way too DARK! I mean, the whole place is in very dark colors and the lighting is quite insufficient. The setup for a buffet is HORRIBLE! Although it is in the center, the placing of the tables made it very tricky to walk from one's table without bumping into another person with a plate of food; or worse, a server with hot food or beverages! At first, our party was seated at a rectangular table with a direct view of the kitchen. While the kitchen looked clean, there was busy traffic and wait people were constantly having to stop right at the table before proceeding. The manager moved us to a room in the rear of the restaurant, very far away from the food. Additionally, there were two unlit steps to traverse to enter or leave the room; no banisters and of course, not ADA compliant! There Is a ramp at the entrance, but certain places are on raised platforms; requiring climbing and scaling. Next to the food: in one word--INSIPID! Even though it was just after opening time; the chafing dishes appeared to have been utilized by the first patrons, who may have been careless with the serving utensils. I had to ask for new ones. The omelet section was okay, but the cooks wore only ONE disposable glove instead of two, and did NOT change them to grab the ingredients on the side table! At least the ingredients in my omelet were well-cooked. And, the cooks realized their error when I ordered my omelet in fluent Spanish! It looked as though the salads on the table were made the day before; the field greens were "tired". The desserts were mostly "store bought" (the eclairs from Costco down the road, maybe?) and the puddings were mostly whipped cream. In short, $23 for something worth at best 1/2 as much. Oh--all beverages were extra! Hmm.-- nice markups! Conclusion-- caveat emptor. A bit pricey for what you get, and not especially presented well. Let's be clear from the start - this is purportedly a Steak House, and to me that brings certain traditional standards to be met, which they missed by a long shot. On a first trip a couple of months ago, it was pretty good but dinner yesterday was a loss. The service, decor, cocktails are fine. The sides and salads were good but a little too salty for our taste. Our reason for coming here was a big disappointment. Our Steaks (fillet and porterhouse) were certainly NOT top quality beef - my porterhouse was actually tough, and all were over seasoned. Last visit seemed to be slightly better quality meat, but cut a too thin for a good steak. Maybe that's why they push sauce for all the steaks - not what a real steakhouse would do. Wine list was good and priced well, but at $40 for a steak in a steakhouse, I expect a really good steak. This ruined what could have been a very nice family dinner. There are waffle, omlets and carving stations featuring roast beef, ham and turkey. KC Prime's slogan is "the moment you step into KC Prime, you realize it's not your average steakhouse." Unfortunately, that's because you're horrified at realizing it's your sub-average steakhouse. Went to KC Prime last night with a friend who recently moved to the area. I asked the waiter what steak I must have and the server without skipping a beat immediately suggested the NY Strip. Against his better judgment, I went with his suggestion. I ordered it medium and I might as well have ordered a piece of rubber. No flavor, and the baked potato that came with it was dryer than the Sahara. My friend was in the mood for a pasta dish and misread the menu listing the fettuccine as fettuccine alfredo, which they don't have. Not only did the waiter hear my friend repeatedly say Alfredo and didn't correct him, but when he brought out the dish, he asked my friend if he liked it. My friend replied he didn't, that he was expecting an alfredo dish, and the waiter just said "I'm sorry" and walked away. No offer of a different entree, no offer of a complimentary drink, nothing. Just an "I'm sorry" and off he went. It wouldn't have been a problem if the pasta dish wasn't one of the blandest looking dishes ever to be set atop a table. Needless to say, I won't be back. We brought my friend here for his 30th birthday party and we were impressed. We ordered oysters for an appetizer; they came out the the biggest oysters I have ever seen! They were tender and have a great fresh ocean taste. But, enough about oysters, this is a steakhouse right? My fool of a friend orders himself a pasta dish at a steakhouse. Who orders pasta at a steakhouse?!? Anyway, the pasta tasted fresh made and the seafood sauce and broccolini which accompanied was fresh and delicious. I ordered the KC roast prime rib. Damn! That was a huge steak. I ordered rare and it came out of the kitchen bloody and delicious. All entrees came with a salad (they could have given a bit more lettuce) and fresh baked bread with (a strange but good) bean dipping sauce. KC Prime fills a great niche between the lower level chains and the classic NY style steak houses. We'd rather enjoy the full meal you get here (protein plus starch and veg) versus paying a third more ala carte at nearby Ruth's Chris. This evening for my birthday dinner, we decided to visit K C Prime. I have had many steaks there and always enjoyed them. Tonight was a different story. We had a nice, quiet table, and the three of us ordered. Thank goodness we were there early, since there was a table for 12 next to us. When those people arrived, all of the good service we had experienced went right out the window. I ordered an alcoholic drink, and I was dismayed to taste absolutely no alcohol in it. I should have sent it back. I ordered from a special tasting menu, and my first course was a bland, boring cauliflower and corn soup. Where was the flavor??? Not only that, it needed salt! Next, my strip steak was cold and as hard as a rock. I sent it back and received a better one a little later. Daughter enjoyed her dish of pasta and vegetables. My husband said that his scallops were prepared with absolutely no spices or flavor enhancements. Also on his plate we saw a large pile of steamed , overcooked and nearly tasteless vegetables....a very poor offering. I wonder what has happened to this once fabulous restaurant. Next time I want to treat myself to a steak, I think I will cook it myself! read more
