I'm from Venezuela and I don't know why I am not convinced this place to have a great Cachapas. Really really small store (with 3 tables and one Flat screen TV). Ordered a Cachapas con queso a mano ($8.00). The staff makes it and ask me to have a seat. Takes about 10 minutes to cook it. Food is ready. The food look pretty big portion and yummy. But as soon as I made the first cut. The cachapas wasn't getting together, what do I mean? that it was a bit watery and it was falling apart. The Cheese was good, 1/4 inch layer thick. They also have other selections of venezuelan food (Arepas, Hallacas, fresh Juices and other venezuelan snacks). If they fix it a little better and make it a little better I could have given you another star. But sorry buddy. read more

K'Chapas, a play on the word "Cachapas," serves... well, cachapas! They're the sweet yellow corn pancakes that's popular with Venezuelans. Some Colombians know these as a sweeter, bigger, and softer version of arepas de choclo. According to the Miami Herald, this place makes the cachapas from scratch - not from a cachapas mix, an added plus! In this warehouse-filled intersection of Doral, you'd find this place alongside two other Venezuelan restaurants (La Coriana and Sunny Subs(?)). In other words, for Venezuelan snacks, you'd have plenty of options if you were in this area. I had the cachapas with carne mechada (shredded beef) and Guayanes cheese - and that filling, tasty and good. They did not skimp - and I love them for that! It was less than $8, and big enough to filled two people - but if you were really hungry, you could try to eat it all. I also had the tequeños - and unfortunately that was a pass - and like I've said in several other reviews, a good tequeños should have a good pastry-like dough with bubbles on the outside skin when fried - that's how I've always loved them - a la mode European Corner! (Of South Miami) At the European Corner, you'd be happy eating the tequeños by itself, not with some sauce. And that's not the case here. And here, you're provided with an accompanying sauce for the tequeños - I believe the guasacaca sauce. The smoothies here looked good as well - but I opted not to get them as I was in the mood for chicha, which they did not have. Also, the cheeses they serve for the cachapas are more authentic than the Venezuelan cheeses you can buy at Publix. The cheeses (Queso de Mano and Guayanes) here are of Chevere brand and you could buy them onsite (but know that they're a bit more pricier than the Publix brands). It's good to know since this brand of cheese is not everywhere in Miami - at least not yet. I would return for some more cachapas. But please fix the tequeños! read more

Okay, definitely a Hole In The Wall kind of place. Teeny tiny bay in a tiny shopping centre that you'll fly past if you're not paying attention. A little beat up on the inside, but y'all know I'm not here for the atmosphere. Ordered the cachapa con queso Guayanés ($6.99). Being a really Venezuelan girl, growing up eating them up in Caracas, Mérida, Los Teques, Mesa Bolívar and more back home, and homemade stateside, I'm picky. I want them corny (not mealy... I want chunks of corn in there!), slightly crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, and with real salty cheese, preferably de mano, but I'll even devour them with simple queso blanco rallado. Guy that helped me was SUPER nice, if a little impatient, and the batter was already made but he threw it on the grill when I ordered (not pre-cooked and reheated, woohoo!). He offered fresh jugo de guanábana (soursop) or parchita (passion fruit) ($3 each). I opted for a Coke (what? I grew up in America too), so I'm relaxing to Chayanne and Ricardo Arjona. Five minutes later, moment of truth. He hands me a good-sized cachapa with a GINORMOUS hunk of cheese (woohoo!!). This slice must be at least an inch thick. I butter it up some more and tuck in. Observations: much more pancake-y than cachapa-y. Definitely cakey (fluffy and airy) rather than corny, and soft all over like an actual pancake, not at all textured or crispy. The flavour is okay, not sweet enough for me (but I do have a sweet tooth), but the cheese is out of this world. Absolutely perfect. So overall, not the best cachapa I've had, bun on it scratched the itch. They also offer the cachapas with queso entero ($8.99); queso y carne, queso y pollo, o queso y jamón ($8.50). Their desayuno criollo is a platter of 2 arepas, black beans, queso de mano, and beef or chicken for $6.99, as well as an assortment of hamburgers, hot dogs, and arepas. Milkshakes and ice cream (looks like sundaes) round it out for dessert, and you've got a pretty good deal :) read more

It's 2:15pm on a Wednesday. My expectations are high. Am I funna be sassified? Yea, that hit the spot. Con: Restroom is in bad shape. Pro: Relatively cheap. My chicken arepa was worth $4.50, for sure. The guy working there seemed happy to see me. He said he was the owner. I discovered panela. It was OK. Go for one of the juices. If this place was in my neighborhood, I would be a customer three times a month. read more

A local told me this was the only place to get an fresh, made to order k'chapa. I have no reference in which to compare since it was my first taste of this vanezuelan dish, so rating is based on my liking of the food, not the restaurant. I liked k'chapa a lot, but have a hard time thinking it is easy to eat the whole thing (that's a lot of cheese). Got the passion fruit juice and it was awesome. They were fresh and the "queso de mano" (the cheese) melted so good In between the cachapa. Also the person working there which I assume was the owner was really nice. we walked in the place ordered our food and 10 mts later we were immersing our faces into a fantastic cachapa . I gave them 4 stars and not 5 because they ran out of pabellon criollo and you just can't have a Venezuelan restaurant without the prime dish. What is a cachapa? In my book, it's the Venezuelan's version of a Cuban arepa...but so much better!!! This is one of the few places that does them homemade! A cachapa is a large, sweet corn cake with gooey guayanes cheese filled in between. The guayanes cheese is homemade and it's slightly salty which offsets the sweetness of the corn cake, making for one harmonious bite! Unlike many other Venezuelan places I've tried cachapas at, this place makes their corn batter from scratch- no pre-packaged cakes here! They also sell empanadas which are great; yes, they're fried, which could be the reason they taste so darn good! As for service, this is a whole in the wall but it's family owned by a brother & sister team. I don't make it out here as often as I'd like because it's so far for me, but every time I do go, the brother always remembers me (that too could be attributed to my ferocious appetite & ordering so much food). Now that I've had a really lame cachapa somewhere else I appreciate this place even more. With this restaurant you get what only an owner can offer: friendly service and the best meal they're capable of making on a consistent basis. I decided to visit this place based on the reviews, and the quest to find a Cachapa worth eating; my journey has ended, and the name lives up to its fame. I ordered a Cachapa con carne y queso guayanes (Shredded beef, and salty cheese) and just one bite transcended me to food heaven! The cachapa wasn't enough, so I opted to try the tequenos, and pabellon criollo and never looked back. They sold me a jugo de parchita (passion fruit), and after the meal a cappucino. they were both amazing, and incredibly fresh. I walk in at noon the restaurant was empty (should have gave me a clue where i had step to). They gave us the menu at 12:05. From there on we waited an Hour! For our lunch, my food that i had chose was tallarin saltado de Pollo, was not what i expect it. The plate was small and the Onion had a horrible taste. Not only did i had to spend more time for my lunch break, but i had to deal and see, she was missing a lot of requirements ask by the Miami-Dade food Inspector. I would not recommend to have lunch or dinner at that restaurant. read more

I am in from out of town attending a conference at the Doral Golf Resort. I was looking for some local food, so I got online and saw the good reviews for this place and figured I would give it a try. I got the Cachapa con Queso y Carne, and two fruit juices - blackberry and mango. The food was amazing! The cachapa was sweet and perfectly cooked. The cheese was slightly salty, and the meat tender and flavorful. The juices were awesome also - clearly freshly made. This was the best $15 I spent on dinner in a long time, and lots of traveling all over the country. I agree - the place is a bit of a dive, but that was all part of the charm. The gentleman working spoke no english, but we both talked food, so all was good. This is a must go-to if you are ever in Miami! read more

Fui a FL hace algunos meses en busca de algo de sabor de mi pais, me dijiri hasta este lugar porq segun los reviews era uno de los mejores de Florida... Lamentablemente fue todo lo contrario. En aquella oportunidad yo pedi una cachapa con queso guayanes, recibi una panqueca seca hecha con maiz de lata, el queso ... no se ni como llamarle, era mas bien chicle salado. Mi novio ( que no es venezolano y fue lleno de espectativas q yo cree) pobrecito, pidio una parrilla de carne, que cualquier venezolano sabe de q esta compuesta ( carne asada y cortada, con chorizo tambien asado, yuca y ensalada criolla o de repollo) recibio un steak palido, con arroz blanco y ensalada de lechuga... aquello parecia comida de hospital. El postre fue otro desastre. Lei en el menu que tenian bienmesabe... Me dieron algo q parecia coco molido, mojado con agua de azucar, servido en un embase pequeñito de aluminio, segun la persona q me atendio es HOMEMADE! Mis queridos, si los ingredientes son muy dificles de encontrar o ustedes no saben como preparar la comida no se publiciten como restauran venezolano. La comida venezolana es simple pero llena de sabores extraordinarios q requieren de algo de cariño en su preparacion. El proposito de mi critica es de alguna manera llamar la atencion de los dueños de este lugar, q seguramente no son los q cocinan y q probablemente desconocen de la mala calidad del servicio q alli se presta y por otra parte servir como referencia para otras personas....
