Spectacular food in a funky, fun and historic environment. This is now a must stop for my friends…read moreand me if we are anywhere in the vicinity. Great staff for servers, bar and kitchen. They handled our table of 10 really well. Drinks were creative, pretty and delicious. We shared starters and salads and enjoyed them all. Fried oysters (needed more of that delicious sauce!), fried green tomatoes, and foresters' toast were all delicious. The mushrooms and sauce on that toast is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. We loved the arugula salad. Beautifully presented and the flavors shined - pine nuts, parm and truffle. The sorghum salad was both a surprise and comforting. Such an interesting salad! Everyone loved their entrees. I had the fried chicken. Some of the best I've had. (Note: you can request their spicy sauce on the side, and it's worth it. Doesn't hide the chicken flavor but enhances.) But IT almost overshadowed by the biscuit. I'm going to dream about that crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside biscuit. Loved the mashed potatoes with pan gravy and collards as well. Others had shrimp and grits, pork chop, and rock fish. Everyone raved. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong here. A memorable meal that I'd be happy to enjoy weekly.

The next morning we skipped oatmeal and went back to the Wandering Goose at The Tokeland Hotel. The staff is friendly, helpful, and the chefs are superb. We had fried chicken ....best ever. Biscuits are so good and I am not a biscuit lover, I normally find them heavy and dry. These are light fluffy and taste delicious, especially when accompanied by the homemade raspberry jam. My husband loves oysters and theirs are the best he's had in the state. Everything was delicious. And the surroundings are lovely and serene.

The employee that took my call and gave me my pizza was a really, nice guy. Cauliflower crust is always a gamble but this was really good! The texture was great and it held up under the toppings. Overall I was glad I took a chance here. Once I got there I realized they had a large, nice outdoor seating area. I suspect I probably could have taken my dogs there and eaten the pizza outside. Next time!

I had the Pale ale very smooth and crisp and hubby had the Sunset ale which was bright and fruity. Food was decent, typical American. We had cheesy breadsticks which was basically a cheese pizza cut up into strips served with a side of cold marinara. Caesar salad was decent, it wasn't mixed, dressing & cheese just on top. Italian stack was good and what you would expect, not bad and not exceptional. Hot honey pepperoni pizza was a special. Thin chewy crust, thin layer of cheese & pepperoni. The hot honey was not spicy at all but the sweetness over the pepperoni was the star. Great spot for good beer, reliable American food, and to chill.

There is a nice assortment of candies and at the front by the register they have chocolates that you can purchase. The only downside is the inconsistent offering of samples. When we came in yesterday, they were offering 2 samples for customers. Today when we went in, they said they weren't offering any samples.

At the time I was there there were only 2 alternate choices to dairy: mango sorbet & lemon poppyseed frozen dessert. Since I can get the mango at most grocery stores I went with the lemon poppyseed. Good choice as the lemon provides a zesty punch. The base of this non-dairy "ice cream" is coconut milk. Not because they told me, but because I can taste the coconut. Also, there are some teenie tiny nuggets of coconut oil (Remember coconut "oil" is solid at room temperature). I got a single scoop. However, it's large. Sitting in an 8 oz cup in such way to require a domed lid. Much, much tastier than your average lemon poppyseed muffin. Those are seem to be artificially flavored and bitter. If I'm buying a poppyseed muffin I go with almond ones. In addition to my surprisingly good "ice cream", the store sells oddles of candies. Lots of good chocolate. I picked up a novelty candy purchase, a tin of Bob Ross, happy little tree mints. That's a semi-gag gift for my BFF. Nice place to wander around & bring some sweetness to your day.
