I'm surprised to see such great reviews of this place. My experience was quite the opposite. Lets start with the good part of the visit, then I will tell you why Dr. Truong's behavior was sleazy, scammy and completely unprofessional. Dr. Truong is educated (Berkley!) , competent (Berkley!) and is a very nice guy (awesome energy!). I got an appointment within an hour of calling him. When I got there we rapped about bike riding, running and staying fit. Everything was great at this point, and I was ecstatic to find a professional, energetic and affordable optometrist in the area. But then things got kind of weird... While talking about bike riding, he casually mentioned about this new drug called Protandim. A miracle drug that somehow reversed the aging process and allowed him to ride his bike faster...and no joke he actually said this...make all the girls that take it look super sexy. Uhm...even though my BS detector was going off...he was super nice about it and I didn't want to be rude so I went along with it. I even went as far as pretend to put the name of the drug into my phone. I just wanted to get my eye exam done so that I can order my contacts and move on with my day. But then it continued. In the middle of the eye exam, he started blabbering something about free radicals and how this drug helps your cells. I just nodded my head and smiled. Didn't respond thinking he'd get the hint that I didn't want to hear about it anymore. The eye exam continued but then the worse thing happened... I started telling him that I see floaters. Little black spots on my right eye that seem to dart away when I focus on them. I've done research on this..it's not a big deal unless it gets progressively worse. I tell all eye doctors this and all of them have told me the same thing. It's a sign of aging and there's really nothing that can be done unless it gets so bad that it affects the vision. Then eye surgery is the last resort. Instead of asking me more questions or even taking a look at my eye...Dr Truong told me that PROTANDIM will clear this for me. This non-FDA approved miracle drug would now somehow cure my eyes from these floaters (he said it was "just eye garbage) that every single eye doctor in the past told me that nothing can be done with it. Listen...I'm all for dietary supplements..I take a few as vitamins...but something feels not quite right when a Doctor prescribes a non-FDA approved dietary supplement as a cure for something that cannot be cured without surgery. ESPECIALLY when the doctor is selling this drug on the side. Come to think about it...not only is it not quite right, it is completely irresponsible and borderline illegal. I get it Dr. Truong. You like this dietary supplement. You even sell it on your website! But my advice for you is to stay with checking eyes in the office. By all means get supplemental income by selling this stuff on the side...but, stop mixing the two together. Don't show a video in your office selling this stuff. Stop trying to peddle it to your eye clients. Just focus on giving eye exams. That's what your clients are coming to you for. read more

Before seeing Dr. Khoa Truong at KDT Optometry, I was not having the best of luck finding an affordable, quality Optometrist in the San Diego area. Dr. Truong is awesome! I first went there when I didn't have vision insurance because he offers a contact lens exam for a great value @ $89. I now have vision insurance, but I continue to go to him because he is very personable and it is always an enjoyable visit. He leases a space in Sam's Club and is not affiliated with their Vision Center so there is no pressure to get the expensive contacts/glasses. He is a great Dr. Definitely knows his stuff and he still remembers the great saying "Treat others as you would want to be treated." He is very fun and energetic too. Am definitely going to make him my main optometrist. The only reason I didn't give him five stars was because I have to wait and be reimbursed by my insurance company for $114. I was able to get my eye exam here without a Sam's Club membership (I don't think Costco offers that so definitely a plus). Dr. Truong was excellent, would rate their customer service a 5 out of 5.. I will never go to Kaiser or any place other than KDT Optometry to get my eyes checked again. I called at 4:30pm today asking for the soonest appointment because Kaiser could not give me an appointment after 330pm for at least 3 weeks. Dr. Truong asked if I wanted to come in today and then asked how long it would take to get there. I got in at 530pm today and I had my contact lens prescription (and my 5 trail pair lenses) in hand by 6. He was very nice and the place wasn't crowded, in fact I was the only one there. I give this place 5 stars because it was $114.00 for my contact lens exam with astigmatism (the same price as Kaiser, if not less), he got me in with only an hours notice, it was after 5pm, he was quick, AND he laughed at all my little jokes. It's amazing , I CAN SEE !!! I met this guys brother in Vietnam back in 07, and was referred by a mutual friend . Im the type of patient who needs special customer service , this place hands down is the greatest place located inside the Sams Club off of college grove , plenty of parking , not too many people like cosco . I walked into KDT with no appointment and Dr. Truong took care of me right away (even though he was about to step out for lunch). During the eye exam, I could tell this wasn't your typical eye doctor. Not only was he accommodating and thorough, but he also has a great sense of humor (and he's quite easy on the eyes). Sometime during the exam, I casually mentioned I was on my last pair of contacts so on my way out, he slipped me 2 pairs for free to hold me over. WOW, right? I didn't even ask him! Super nice guy.. My experience at KDT was so pleasant and breezy that I just had to create an account to share it. If my dentist followed Dr. T's lead, I would actually show up for my appointments on time. Within one hour of writing the review below (3 days ago), Dr. Truong called and left a message for me. As it turns out, the office had entered my phone number incorrectly and was therefore getting no response from the message they left. After seeing my Yelp review Dr. Truong called and left a message telling me what had happened and asked me to come in right away to get my lenses (he was very apologetic for the mix-up). I went into the office this morning and was able to get my lenses right away. Dr. T. was with a patient and told me he would be right out to help me. (I appreciated the fact that he finished her examination--had I been the patient I would have wanted him to do the same for me). Dr. T. gave me my lenses, gave me extra wetting/soaking solution and told me to try these lenses. He told me if I was happy with them he would give me another two free pairs for my inconvenience. Mix-ups happen--when a business owner does everything s/he can to rectify the situation--THAT's great customer service!! Previous Review-- I saw Dr. Khoa Truong in May to be fitted for soft lenses after wearing gas permeable lenses for years. Maybe it's my age but I felt that he was more (or at least just as) interested in showing me his computer knowledge and links as he was in prescribing the right lenses. I tried two different types of soft lenses (both for astigmatism) and still have poor vision in my left eye. When I complained that my vision was still not good in my left eye he told me to try the lens for a while and see how I did. About a month later I asked if he could order me a left lens one diopter stronger. I still haven't gotten it. I was called once but told someone ordered the wrong lens (more than a month ago). He said they would reorder and call me. I am still waiting... In the meantime, after $114.00, I am still wearing my glasses. read more

I usually go to a medical center to get glasses but it takes so long to get an appointment I usually forget about it and miss my appointment. I decided to try going to Sam's Club since my wife stated she had a good experience when she took our son to get an exam and glasses I figured I'd try it out. After my eye injury, I went to hundreds of specialty optometrist. None of them were able to find the right contacts for me which left me very frustrated. I went through about 15 different lens that were quite expensive. Dr Troung knew what to order as he had fitted several patients with specialty contact lens in the past. He is young, fresh, energetic, and up to date on fitting patient with eye injuries. As you can imagine I was ecstatic. He found me the perfect contact lens that matched my other eye perfectly.
