Ke Nui Catering was amazing, and we are so grateful they were part of our wedding. The morning of our wedding, flash flooding forced our original venue to cancel, and we had to move the entire event to a new venue on the next day. It was a complete scramble, and one of the many things we were worried about was whether our vendors would be able and willing to pivot with us. Ke Nui Catering did, and we were so thankful. Even with everything changing in less than 24 hours, they were accommodating and helped make sure we could still have a beautiful meal at our rescheduled wedding. That flexibility alone meant a lot to us, but the food itself was also truly excellent. The standout for us was the Fig Stuffed Porchetta. It was honestly some of the best pork we've ever had. The skin was unbelievably crispy, while the meat was still tender and juicy. We're still talking about it! We also had the Pan Seared Mahi & Macadamia, which was also very good and cooked much better than you might expect from a large wedding service. The fish was not overdone at all, which really impressed us. With all the uncertainty surrounding our wedding weekend, it meant a lot to have a catering team that could adapt without compromising quality. They helped make the day still feel celebratory and special, even though the entire wedding had been turned upside down less than a day earlier. We are so happy we chose Ke Nui Kitchen for our wedding! The food was absolutely incredible. Multiple guests told us it was the best wedding food they've ever had. My wife and I used KNK for our wedding in March 2024. We are on the mainland (Washington), so most of our communication was virtual via email, phone, and video calls. We visited them in September 2023 and they adjusted their schedule to accommodate our short visit so we could have a food tasting and cake tasting. Throughout the wedding planning process, Mikhaila at KNK was very communicative and accommodating to us. We had so many questions and she was always very prompt in responding to us. She helped us make our catering menu personalized to us and our tastes! Dessert- We enjoyed how we were able to create our own cake flavor combinations. Our cake was guava cake, guava curd, and coconut frosting. Delicious! We also ordered cake shooters and those were equally delicious. Shave Ice Bar- We wanted to offer a cool, sweet treat to our guests. The shave ice bar was a huge hit! You pick several flavors to have on stock, plus some toppings for guests to choose from. Refreshing and sweet! Premium Bar- We could not afford the open bar option, so we opted for a limited bar package for our guests. We picked from a variety of packages. They also were open to adjusting the package to suit our needs and tastes. For example, decreasing the amount of wine bottles and adding more hard seltzers. It was a great decision, their cake is absolutely delicious - we went with tropical flavors and you could tell it was made with the real thing. We'd also highly recommend their cake tasting; it allows you to sample all their amazing flavors and the combinations of cake/filling/icing. The only downside is that every everything's so tasty it will make narrowing down the flavors even harder, and make you reconsider flavors you thought were already eliminated (we almost rethought our whole tropical theme for that pink champagne). Ke Nui Kitchen gave us a true farm to table experience that drew rave reviews from our wedding guests. It's difficult to prepare food for larger parties, but their staff cooks the food on site and serves it fresh and hot to guests. A few months before our wedding, we did a food tasting that is included in the booking. Every dish was delicious, so it was difficult to choose our final menu! During the tasting they also took notes on any changes in preparation, from using slightly less soy sauce to substituting an ingredient. While every dish was great, our favorites were the asparagus salad, kimchi Brussel sprouts and their huli brasa chicken. We also had Ke Nui Kitchen cater our rehearsal lunch. We gave them a location and they dropped off the food right on time. They set up the trays and provided serving utensils for us. We got a lot of compliments from our guests. Ke Nui Kitchen catered my rehearsal dinner at Dillingham Ranch in December 2022. The communication was not the greatest at first, but I believe they had a staff change going on. In any event, they more than made up for it on the day of the rehearsal dinner. The power was going off and on at the Ranch from the storms that had been going on for the past few days, but they rolled with the punches. When the folding banquet tables that we had rented from another company never showed, KNK had someone bring some to us. While the two men ( I wish I could remember their names) were cooking, me and my two best friends were in the kitchen cutting up a ton limes for the signature cocktail that would be served at the wedding the next day. Not only were they kind enough to lend us a couple of decent knives, but they brought us each a bao bun to try while we worked (I still dream about that bao bun to this day--most delicious one I have ever had!). I am sure they could tell I was stressed out about all of the mishaps and they went above and beyond to smooth out wrinkles that they were not even responsible for. It meant the world to me. Unfortunately, I feel like this catering company isn't the most helpful. They are located in the beautiful valley of Waimea, and my fiance and I found them from a wedding expo we went to. Not only was the food average (the "Smoking Boar & the Coconut" restaurant down the street has tastier options honestly), They seem to gouge couples with every little thing. For example, they have ridiculous service charges in addition to delivery fees and food costs. We asked them to deliver late night snacks to our wedding venue that is only 5 miles away, and for 80 pieces of late night snacks, the service charge is over $650, not including the food or delivery fee. We are talking about 80 mini snacks to be delivered 5 miles away, it costs $650 service, plus a few hundred dollar delivery fee, plus $5/per spam. Honestly, I'm just disappointed in this catering company and their ethics, and their customer service. Lack of prompt communication throughout, and lack of aloha for local couples getting married on island; the experience simply was not the friendliest, nor did it feel like they wanted to work with you to fit your budget requirements. I highly recommend one of the private chefs on island, or local restaurants who cater- their costs are way more reasonable, more responsive, and they are way more eager to work with you and your budget. My husband and I recently held our wedding and dinner reception at Waimea Valley, which, if you've read any of the other comments, you know provides Ke Nui Kitchen as the only catering option. Interactions with KNK staff were mostly great--Trudy and Buffy are very helpful and flexible to every little special request so that it truly is a customized experienced. Sometimes response times via email were slow, but I didn't mind so much and anticipated that as the Hawaiian way:) Whenever I needed a quick response, I would call them and that worked well. On the day of the event, all KNK staff were on their A-game. They were professional and responsive and thoughtful (they reserved plates of appetizers for me and my husband while we were busy taking photos!). I appreciated that the buffet servers explained what each menu item was and how to eat it (we got the luau menu, which was new to all of us mainlanders), and I loved that the head chef was there, too! The food was DYNAMITE. I am salivating just thinking about it. It truly was phenomenal and even my dad, who is a gourmet chef, was very impressed. KNK's pastry chef, Caroline, made our wedding cake and it was the very first ice cream wedding cake she had ever made (this is what I mean when I talk about special requests!). She knocked it out of the park! It looked absolutely phenomenal and tasted even better than it looked (if that's even possible). I still dream about that wedding cake. My fiance and I were looking at Waimea Valley as a possible venue for our wedding ceremony and reception - it was one of our top choices. Unless your event is held at Waimea Valley's restaurant, The Proud Peacock, all catering is done by Ke Nui Kitchen. We had seen the great reviews on Yelp, so that was no problem for us! We met with Francesca from Ke Nui Kitchen on 11/21/15 immediately after our site tour of the valley. The meeting went well, I think - Francesca was very friendly and receptive to the ideas my fiance and I had. We left feeling really good about the consultation, and we were excited to see what Ke Nui Kitchen came up with for our reception. We waited until after Thanksgiving before following up with them, figuring that it was the holidays, so it was only to be expected that the office might be closed, or employees would be out on vacation. I sent a follow up e-mail to info@kenuikitchen.com (taken from their website contact info) on 12/1/16. No response. I tried again on 12/4 - this time using the e-mail address provided by Waimea Valley that went directly to KNK's sales manager, Kaily. Success! I got a reply the next business day. Apparently, Francesca was no longer with the company, and Kaily was having to play "catch up" on the resulting added work load. Not the best news ever, but totally understandable. Okay, so where do we go from here? Kaily found Francesca's notes from our consultation, and stated that she would "create [our] preliminary quote and menu ASAP!" Well, a month went by without so much as a peep from KNK. They had forgotten about us. Again. Or they decided that our small wedding wasn't worth their time. I'm not sure, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went with the "they forgot about us again" theory. The first time our info slipped through the cracks was bad enough, but understandable (I get it, stuff happens that you can't control). When it happens a second time, then it starts to show a distressing trend. Can you imagine what might happen if they lost an employee or if one of them got sick right before your wedding? Would they forget to show up? So I sent another e-mail to Kaily on 1/7/16 telling her how disappointed my fiance and I were that we had never heard back from them. I told her that we understand that being short-staffed around the holidays can create a back log of work, but that really can't excuse the complete lack of communication. We had no faith in their reliability. I let them know that since it had been so long, we had little choice but to move on with our planning process without them, and that we would no longer need a quote from them (if they were even still working on it). Of course, they didn't respond to that either... We saw KNK at the Hawaii Bridal Expo a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see them greet anyone coming up to the booth, or talking to the brides and grooms-to-be to explain what their food was - I had to ask what they were serving. Then the girl at the booth went back to reading her magazine or looking at her phone, or whatever it was she was doing instead of trying to bring in new potential customers. I did actually try one of their sample dishes there, and it was the best thing I ate at the expo! It just made me more upset that they had such a great product, but really couldn't care less. read more

My fiancé and I were looking hire a caterer for our wedding and I found KNK (through Instagram). There were some issues with communication at first, since there were some staff changes--but they now respond promptly. At our food tasting, the food was AMAZING and I'm so happy that we have hired them for our big day. We are having a lunch reception and I cannot wait until I have their food again. They were set up at the North Shore Turtle Bay Fourth of July event, and were serving poke bowls, poke nachos, a noodle dish, and brownie bars. The poke bowl was great - could choose ahi or sweet potato and tofu, with a sauce topping (shoyu, spicy alioli, or kimchi) and three toppings from a list that included limu, corn, cucumber, onion, guacamole, sea grass, and bell peppers. You could also put the bowl on rice or salad. We got an ahi bowl on rice, with kimchi sauce, limu, onion, and corn. Unfortunately they ran out of guacamole right before us in line so we could not try that. We also ordered the poke nachos, which was corn and sweet potato chips with ahi, shoyu, and onion. Was a little plain - Usually also comes with guacamole, which would have been great, but they were out. They discounted the nachos $2 though, which was fair. Ke Nui Kitchen provided food and drinks at our wedding on the North Shore of Oahu in April 2021, and we couldn't have been happier they did! From the get-go, their sales manager Nicole was responsive and professional. Ke Nui Kitchen was very flexible and accommodating as we tried to figure out our food and beverage needs in an ever-changing Covid environment. My husband and I did a private food tasting at Waimea Valley a few months before our wedding, which was both romantic and delicious, and the chef responded positively to our request to use a little less balsamic on one of the salad dressings. For our wedding entrees, we ended up choosing the kalua pork and the banana-leaf wrapped fish -- and both were a huge hit with our guests. For desserts, our guests enjoyed the lilikoi cheesecake squares and butter mochi bites, and everyone enjoyed the craft cocktails created by the Ke Nui bartenders (we selected the mai tai and watermelon cooler). We got so many compliments from our guests on the food, as well as the Ke Nui staff. All staff were extremely courteous and respectful of the Covid safety measures in place -- all staff wore face masks and gloves the whole night and worked hard to serve guests seated at tables. We ate at the KNK Beach Gallery, located at Kuilima Cove next to Turtle Bay Resort. We were absolutely thrilled to have this dining option beachfront and just hope that when Roy's opens in July there will still be a place for KNK. Absolutely delicious food offerings; fresh farm-to-table, and cooked with aloha. Chef Naylor created an incredible tri-tip special that paired nicely with the beverage service offered. We recently married in Waimea Valley and Ke Nui Kitchen was our caterer. As stated by other reviewers, unless you do your wedding at the Proud Peacock, Ke Nui Kitchen hosts the other Waimea Valley wedding venue sites. Everything was truly superb. We kept in touch from the mainland until we were able to meet face to face on the big day. Trudy was great at answering our lists of questions, and Jennifer, the Office Manager, kept in touch with us and helped put together all the final details, bringing up things we hadn't thought about. Our floor manager for the day of, Allana, was really great and friendly. The food was very fresh, local and had a unique twist with each bite. The great flavors and yummy combinations was one of the reasons we chose to go with Ke Nui - their menus just felt so distinct from other caterers. But the staff really stood out to me - everyone from the floor manager, bartender, to the servers were just so top notch professional and friendly. You could tell they really loved what they did. We attended the Easter brunch at Waimea Falls yesterday and do not recommend the event for future consideration. To start, we paid for the 10am seating and were told we had to finish by 11:15 for the next seating. The food wasn't ready until 10:30 and there was no organization. We stood in the buffett line for 20 minutes or so and they ran out of several items. There was no leadership presence and the staff there seemed disorganized and spread thin (with few exceptions). The food was mediocre except for the prime rib and ham. They ran out of coffee early and didn't replenish for our seating. It's a no brainer with that amount of small children that food needs to be timely and plentiful, tasty would be a bonus. read more

Since we got married at Waimea Valley, we had no choice but to go with KNK as our catering vendor. That was great because it was one less decision for us to make, plus I read so many good reviews! KNK was an absolute pleasure to work with! The 2 catering managers that I worked with (first Carina, who is no longer there, and then Francesca) were a pleasure and so easy to work with! They were both super responsive, which makes it so nice when you're trying to manage multiple vendors. The prices and options were very reasonable. We were blown away at our tasting! We were so impressed with the quality and taste of the food and loved how everything was locally sourced. We ended up with the Kailua pig torchon and poke 2 ways for our passed appetizers. We also decided on the fresh local catch and the santa maria tri tip steak. KNK also offered a variety of options in addition to the 2 choices, such a mix/match with a surf and turf option as well as a vegetarian option. They were also very accommodating to some of our guests food allergies. The catering staff were all very professional and so nice! Ke Nui Kitchen did an amazing job! Thomas, owner and chef, is an awesome chef who devises creative tailor made menus to suit each wedding couple. He came up with an awesome menu for us. When we realized it was a little over our budget, Thomas and his team adjusted the menu so that it was equally outstanding and yet easily within our budget. Thomas and his staff were so accommodating that they even let us have our own dessert bar. Nicole, the administrative assistant, is super sweet, professional, and very helpful. She is excellent at keeping the communication lines open and is always quick to respond to emails. Thanks Nicole! Day of wedding, the food was delectable!!!! To start off we had ahi poke and ahi tartar prepared two different ways, and Kalua pig torchon, which was soooooo good! Our salad was a caprese salad with pesto sauce drizzled on top. The pesto sauce honestly is the best pesto sauce I have ever tasted, and I eat a lot of pasta! We had 3 different entrees; Braised Big Island Short Ribs with Okinawan Sweet Potato Garlic Mash (a must have!), Pan Crusted Monchong in a Butter Piccata Sauce with Cauliflower Pure (the fish was so soft and buttery good), and a Linguini Primavera in a light roasted garlic pesto sauce, which was to die for! We did the entrees buffet style. Even though it was buffet style, the presentation was still beautiful. Not only was the food great but also service was outstanding. I have been in the restaurant industry for over a decade as a waiter and a manager so good service with a positive upbeat attitude is very important to me. The entire Ke Nui Kitchen staff was professional, friendly and efficient. Service was impeccable. The staff was nice and friendly without being intrusive and the bartenders rocked! Thomas is so sweet he even came out a couple times to check up on me to make sure I was happy and that everything was going well. What an awesome guy! And at the end of the night they made my husband and I take out boxes for 2 with all the entrees. The left over food tasted great even after microwaving it the next day! I love food! Good food & service was my #1 most important thing for the wedding and Ke Nui Kitchen nailed it! Several of our guest raved about how good the food was and how they thought it must have cost a fortune. I can't thank Thomas and Ke Nui Kitchen enough for making our dinner amazing!
