Chicken Casserole, Baked Apples, Macaroni and Cheese

Oh, Southern Lunch. This place is the definition of the name. Their specialities are all things southern. Nestled alongside the train tracks, it's a small place, but it is hoppin'! I ordered from the specials board that they have posted in all dining areas. I had the chicken casserole, apples, and macaroni and cheese. My husband had his usual, a non-menu item called "Duck's Chicken" with fries and green beans. It is a deliciously breaded chicken cut into pieces like nuggets/bites. Paired with some ranch and they are to die for. My chicken casserole was some that reminded me of church potlucks after Sunday morning preaching. It was that warm and fuzzy feeling. Paired with feeling like I was being waited on by someone's Mema, it just gave me all the comforting feels. There was enough to feed three people and I felt so bad for not bringing the leftovers home, but we were going to be out and about all day. This is a hot spot for lunch in the area, especially with folks from uptown and a lot of blue-collar folks so you may have a short wait, but you'll be glad you waited! Also, a lot of places in Lexington have different hours, so check before you make the drive!

the menú is simple well cooked Southern food. It was busy and the food still came out on time. The crowd is much older and have obviously been going there for a long time. It was my first time going there and the food was delicious I ordered the Southern fried chicken with 2 sides I choose mac n cheese and french fries. My husband had the catfish with greens and cabbage which as a Southerner he really enjoyed. The food was good my only complaint if any is feeling out of place as a brown New Yorker and that the food while great wasn't very seasoned. As a Caribbean I like well seasoned meat my NC native husband couldn't stop raving about it so I'm sure we'll be back soon. The corn bread was great !

OMG slap your grandma country style food! Pardon the expression but if you are in the mood for authentic southern style food and hospitality this is exactly what you are looking for. This is what I grew up on with my grandma in the kitchen. Delicious and full of flavor. I had the fried chicken with pickle beets and scallop tomatoes (stewed tomatos). It all took me back to my childhood and awesome memories of family. I highly recommend you give this place a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. The price wasn't bad either.

Yesterday I decided to go to Lexington and check out this place I found on Google Maps. I got there and was a little confused at first because three different buildings had the sign for this place. When I found it, it was packed. I had to sit at the bar and then there were people waiting to get in. I ordered the fried chicken plate and was shocked to discover it came with three pieces, when two is normally what I'm expecting. I really thought the chicken was seasoned and cooked very well and the sides were really nice too. I love that they have the option for rice, and also that they used real silverware instead of plastic. I can definitely see myself going back.

Our server was so sweet that day. This place gives off Small town vibes for our little town. If you're in the mood for some country food this is the spot to go. Unfortunately my chicken was over cooked and a little tough but it was still good lol. They have odd hours though so be sure to check.

Today was my first time dining here. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a down home, country restaurant so close to home. We went around 1:30 and it was still quite full. The booths were filled with happy folks who seemed to be very comfortable there. There is a good selection of food from country, seafood, pasta, etc. They also offer daily specials displayed on the white boards. I had the Reuben sandwich combo and enjoyed it very much. Their sweet tea is perfect (if you know anything about sweet tea in the south) and the server very accommodating and kind. I learned as we were leaving that there is quite a history to this restaurant. The young lady on the register is the granddaughter of the second owner of this establishment that was begun in 1925!

When we arrived, there was a bit of a wait since 4:20 p.m. was just after the staff's lunch break. We reviewed the menu while I explored the lobby area, which was eye-catching, decorated with vintage household items. I was especially moved by the community food station right next to the entrance. The staff appeared highly focused on making sure everyone was well attended to and that orders were prepared correctly. My wife ordered the baked chicken with baked spaghetti and mac and cheese; I ordered the fried chicken with rice and gravy, mac and cheese, and hush puppies. Since I wasn't sure about portion sizes, I also added a house salad. We sat down to wait, and the customers around us looked completely at ease, as if they were at home -- always a good sign. My wife and I chatted in Spanish (our native language), and unlike other places where people sometimes stare at us for speaking it, we felt completely comfortable and relaxed. Then the food arrived. First, the rolls that came with the meal tasted spectacular. It was a shame you only get one per plate -- but oh well, lol. Second, my wife asked me to try the spaghetti, and I agreed. I don't know who is in charge of the kitchen, but the audacity of this person to make a baked spaghetti better than my grandma's... I'm definitely ordering it next time. Third, my meal. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and delicious. I usually order white meat for the flavor when I get fried chicken, but I didn't even need to -- the selection was perfect. The mac and cheese could easily stand on its own, and the white rice... I'm Puerto Rican, so white rice is a cornerstone of our table. Well, JJ's ruined plain white rice for me, because now I only want to eat it with gravy, LOL. I couldn't finish the salad or the hush puppies there, so later that night, while watching Netflix, I took care of the leftovers. We will definitely be back -- exquisite food, a very comfortable atmosphere, and super reasonable prices!

My initial introduction was when they were located in Stock and Grain Food Hall. I had wanted to try them for a while and luckily I was invited to a Yelp Event where I was able to sample some items. In all fairness, I absolutely loved the service but maybe it was an off night but at the time I wasn't a fan. But as some months passed, they are no longer in Stock and Grain but in a food truck in High Point. I highly suggest following their Facebook page for dates and times where you can catch them. The service was still wonderful and the food was really good. The sweet potato cornbread is one of my favs and the chicken wings and catfish bites were fried to perfection. I love collard greens but do understand, everyone makes them differently. My family is from eastern NC so we make ours savory, theirs have a little sweetness to it. I don't mind it but this time around was so much better, it was very well balanced. The mac and cheese was delicious as well. Although not pictured, do check out their Russian tea drink. I felt very nostalgic and I have no other words but it was great. I try to savor it when I get some. I wish he sold them in half gallon jugs because I would buy it. That's how good it is. They have other items like Rasta pasta, oxtails, pork chops, and turkey wings. I can't wait to come back and try more food. Give them a follow and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

The ladies who work here are very friendly and helpful, came around a few times to check on me, offered fried side to go with the greens , offered a refill on my sweet tea. Great service! About the food. Probably the BEST FRIED CHICKEN in the area. I really can't judge on that because I haven't sampled other fried chicken in the vicinity but based on my own research of sampling fried chicken all over North Carolina, I feel confident in my assumption. It was fried just right. It was SEASONED. It had a very nice batter that was crunchy and the chicken in the inside was tender and juicy. Every bite was tender and juicy. These ladies should teach a cooking class on how to make fried chicken-to other restaurants. The SWEET POTATOES were perfectly cooked and flavored in butter and cinnamon. You could eat it as a dessert. But not overly sweet. Just right. The GREENS were tender and seasoned perfectly. Greens and fried side with their delicious CORNBREAD could be a meal in itself. You cannot find a better place for a meal, or more kind folks running the place from top to bottom. And if your plate is too big to finish, feel free to take it home, because you'll want to save room for dessert. Magnolia 23 is a staple in our household. So long as we've lived within a 30 minute drive, it has been a great place for a Sunday lunch, or any other meal within the hours they are open. They treat you like family from the very start with the way that they take names for the line. It's natural to start a conversation with the people around you, because everyone has the same end game - a great meal. Once you're seated, it's never long before a waitress comes and takes your drink order. The menu for the day is posted on Facebook and written on the board on the wall, along with the sides and dessert options. There's no menus because it's a meat and two sides, plus a bread of either roll or cornbread. The seating is tables and chairs, although some areas have couches for seating, which is a nice change of pace. Today I got stewed beef with sides of mac and cheese, yams, and bread choice was cornbread. My other half got the country style steak, with sides of cabbage and rice with gravy, and bread of cornbread. The littles shared a fried chicken plate with side of mashed potatoes with gravy. They divided and conquered their food so fast I forgot to snag a picture of it. The stewed beef was perfection. So tender, and the juices went well with the cornbread. The yams were expertly spiced, and prepared with so much love. The mac and cheese was delicious, so I offered some to my youngest who promptly stole the rest of it. I did sample the country style steak, and it was so delicious that none was spared. I cannot wait to eat my leftover stewed beef later this week, as I knew I wanted to save room for dessert. We ordered two fried apple pies, and a slice of Hershey bar cake. Be careful with the fried pies - the filling turns into molten lava when heated, so despite the fact that you'll want to take the largest first bite, please be patient and spare your taste buds from their imminent demise by letting it cool a minute. The spices on the apple filling on the fried pies were perfect, and I savored every bite that I stole from my husband. My dessert was the Hershey bar cake, which I split with one of my littles. It didn't have a thick layer of icing, which was great. The cake had a nice crumb, and was sweet without being overly sweet. If you haven't been here yet, make sure to take note of their hours and then take a trip to Asheboro. Once you've finished your meal, feel free to take a stroll around downtown and know that you've just had the best meal around. Magnolia 23 is worth the price and worth the wait, because you will be blessed by the whole experience.

Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu.
