Keegans is a great place to hang out. Their beers are excellently crafted and always fresh! I prefer the Hurricane Kitty or the Black Eye, but the latter is a rarity. Thursday nights are mason jar night and larger servings than the typical pint glass. They serve some food which from what I can tell is all good. I've only had the pretzel though and it was great. Excellent brews and a homely and very unfancy atmosphere. that being said, all the staff are very friendly and accommodating, You also get free peanuts , at least I think they were free. My favorite beverage up there at the moment is Joes Mama's Milk - a coffee infused dark beer, just keeps slipping down nicely. They have a full bar with options for the non beer drinkers and your driver. There is a good selection of food available but I have not gotten around to trying it yet. I also tried the Super Kitty special this time around, too strong for me but still a great Keegans brew ,I prefer session type beers. The Reuben did not disappoint. Among the best we have ever had. I enjoyed the Old Capitol. I'm kinda a boring beer guy because I prefer the more simple beers and this was a good one. Cheri had to settle for Pino Grigio but she enjoyed that as well. It's a pub 4sur with basically two rooms. Laid back atmosphere with average beers at Keegan Ales. The location in Kingston's stockade district is good. Their building is spacious with two large warehouse rooms. The main area near the bar is nicely decorated with holiday lights and paintings on the wall. The bartender was very friendly and we asked for her recommendation. We ordered their IPA which was very average. Not very flavorful and kind of watery. The price was good at $4 a pint though. There is also a nice outdoor area off the parking lot which is open during the warmer months. read more

The place has a great relaxing atmosphere - One room has picnic tables for groups to gather at, and has a dart board and table games to help you pass the time while you enjoy the great brews served by friendly bartenders. Art from local artists hangs on the walls, and changes often. The other room has a dart board, stage for live performances, and the pick up window for the tasty food they serve here. If there was food, was it delicious? - YES (Home made chips for the Guac, oh yeah) c. Were the people friendly, did they look like they loved their jobs? - YES. The establishment it's self is a funky homey brick wall place with picnic tables, and a dog. It's the sort of place that screams small town and we love to make beer not be all corporate. Close to the highway if you're passing through, but a bit of a trek to the historic area by Rondout Creek. We stopped in for lunch on a beautiful Sunday. It's self service -- place your order, pay and wait for the buzzer to go off. We were pretty pleased with our sandwiches. The Reuben was right sized and tasty. A side of jambalaya, somewhat anomalous but delicious and authentic. The Cuban sandwich was tasty but the roll was round not oblate, its cole slaw accompaniment was not drowned in mayo and quite enjoyable. A humus app came with tortilla chips and a generous amount of crudites. I was less impressed with an order of potato chips, which did not seem to be the hoped for house made variety, but were likely ordinary commercial chips. To me, the Helga pilsener was not like a German pils, but was tasty and fresh. My wife's white wine was a generous pour. We sat outside at a picnic table watching a teenage dance troupe perform to percussion accompaniment in the parking lot. Enjoyed it immensely. read more

They have cranked out many new styles recently and have something for everyone. Now, the food, the smoked wings are outstanding and the nachos, best in Kingston. One of the best breweries in the Hudson Valley. The staff is all super friendly, attentive and willing to tell you everything about the beer they are slinging. Their standard beers are all superb - and can be blended with one another to create entirely new beers which aren't even on the menu - alongside a healthy selection of innovative seasonal & limited release beers. They've got live music on Thursday-Saturday (with no cover, ever!) as well as trivia and dart ball on a weekly basis. Whatever you're into they've got you covered. For the college student inside all of us they have $5 mason jar nights on Thursdays, wherein you are poured somewhere between 16-20ish ounces of a beer of your choice - try and see how many Hurricane Kitties you can make it through - all night. They've got outdoor seating, brewery tours and if you play your cards right you can even meet the Brewmaster & Owner, Tommy Keegan. Did I mention the food? The food here is great! Because the menu is only one page in length - each of the dishes is delicious and given the TLC it deserves. I'd argue they have the best potato salad in Kingston and their rueben is superb. Pretzels are delivered daily from the Deisings Bakery and are paired quite well with the Hurricane Kitty cheese sauce. Head chef Walter is constantly coming up with delicious weekly specials to keep you coming back. All in all a great place to visit for those looking for some new beers, or for a new weekly haunt. read more

All the beers I tasted were good, but I think the Mother's Milk is their best, and I'm not a big stout drinker. I would definitely recommend Keegan Ales. read more

The coffee stout was delicious! Went with a large group of people on a Saturday night and we were surprised with how quiet the place was. Plenty of seating and very friendly bartenders. We stopped in last night to grab dinner and a few beers before heading on to the Headless Horseman. This place has a unique set up for food where you order your food through the bartender and then pick up at the counter when your pager goes off. I enjoyed the fact that it was relaxed and the food was excellent. My boyfriend and I shared chicken nachos and a steak quesadilla. My boyfriend said the guacamole was some of the best he's ever had. Beers were great, my boyfriend had mothers milk and I had the capital. Both were very good. There was live music going by the time we left and a good crowd had started coming in. The artwork is unique, the food is tasty and the beers are cold. I definitely recommend. read more

I wouldn't call it a true Gastropub but it does have a nice vibe. Their most popular brews are the Hurricane Kitty IPA and Mother's Milk Stout, though the sour they had the day I was there was great. I've been there twice now. It reminds me of the barn they dance in the movie Footloose. The one side looks like a barn but then you have the stills on the other side and that looks more like a brewing plant. They give peanuts and have a limited menu when it comes to eats. The food was really good. They offer live music weekly and that brings the place to life. The bartender was nice but slow. Food took a long time to come out but was worth the wait. Can beat the brew so it's a place I'm sure I'll see again. If it was closer I'd be going there for lunch once a week just to sit outside, very peaceful. Love the small town feeling. read more

This is hands down my favorite brewery in the Hudson Valley. The beers are all tasty as hell and reasonably priced, with a great happy hour. What really makes it though is the atmosphere. This is an update to my rather mean review from last October. I'm adding a star because it would be rude of me to not acknowledge that the owner Tommy contacted me after my review. You've got to love when a business owner reaches out as he did to respond to a less than positive review. We did go back because of his invitation. They have a couple of new beers. We're IPA drinkers and they now offer a new one. It was decent, though not as light colored and cloudy as we're liking these days. It was a nice update to what we observed was a beer menu lacking in inventiveness. Unfortunately we went on a day when they were not serving their in shell peanuts. Booo. We had some nachos that really hit the spot. Thank you Tommy for reaching out and we wish you continued success. Keep 'em coming. read more

Keegan's has got some stand-out beers. Mother's Milk and Joe Mother's Milk were both excellent choices. We were there on Trivia Night, which was a lot of fun. It was also "Grill Night," which seems to mean some guy is outside grilling burgers and things. I got grilled veggies and my companion a regular burger. Both were fine, nothing too special. You have to buy it at the bar, and take the ticket out to the grill, then keep checking back to see if it's ready. You can help yourself to a side or two, then carry the plate back inside. Some people were a little confused by this, and the bartender was sometimes too busy to explain clearly. We'd surely be there at least to fill up a growler if we lived in the area. read more

WE've gone to Keegan Ales quite a few times to enjoy the music. However the last time we went we just had 2 wines for $14.00 and when the credit card statement came it was for a lot more, with a $7.00 tip on the bill. we disputed it, esp since my husband had already given a $2.00 cash tip. It was finally resolved but we had to fight it several times. so if you get a service person called marianne be very careful. Still can't believe this happened and not in my husband's handwriting at all. How greedy and corrupt can you be? she should be fired! read more

Dogs are allowed inside and they host different events such has pairing. The beers were alright, nothing special. DW and I swung by here for lunch and a beer on a recent trip to Woodstock. It was pretty quiet, there was only one other family in the dining area. I would imagine this place draws a bigger crowd at night. The food was decent, I had the BBQ Chicken Sandwhich, I had envisioned grilled chicken breast or something along those lines, but it was just some heated up cold cuts. DW had the Rueben snagwhich which she enjoyed. Fresh beer, brewed on the premise is a big plus none of the styles that are offered are my favorite but I enjoyed the pint of Hurricane Kitty (IPA) just as much. The "seasonal" brew was an offshoot of the Mother's Milk (Stout) with an infusion of Coffee. Reminded me why I don't drink coffee. It's probably not a bad beer if you like java... Anyway, I'd like to check this out on a night where they have something on the calendar. read more
