We came here in the afternoon and the place was packed and seemed like we came when there was a party going on because people were singing in the karaoke. We got seated immediately followed by water. The staff was nice and attentive. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Loco Moco, I loved how the chicken was cooked, and the gravy was good. My friend got the Fried Chicken-Ube Waffle, the flavor of the chicken was there however it was a little rubbery for her liking the Ube Waffle was burnt and it was so hard to eat so that was a letdown and the Malasadas with chocolate sauce were okay. The filipino-hawaiian fusion sounds enticing, but it's not that great. I've been here a few times (because of friends wanting to eat here) & haven't been impressed with anything I've ordered. The last time I went, I ordered their take on Loco Moco. I did not like it at all & couldn't get past 3 bites of it. The gravy was thin & watery. The meat itself was hard to chew. The taste was bland. Service is ok. Hard for them tho, so many tables & just one waiter which has been my experience each time. Restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Food is good for the price. It's probably the best "Island style" restaurant in the Vallejo area at the moment. It looks like they stopped selling Hawaiian food which was good because their Kalua pork was just okay and the chicken long rice had no flavor. Most of the menu items now are Filipino, minus the loco moco-style dishes. Service was good. The food came out in a timely manner. The lechon bowl was good too. It had a nice blend of savory and pickles. I did not leave this place disappointed, although I've notice that they simplified their menu and no longer serve benedict dishes. This place is popular! Previously we tried coming here but the wait was simply too long. The designated parking lot is very small. On a rainy day we tried coming here around 11am and there was no wait! Service is very warm and friendly. We ordered fried chicken and ube waffle, the loco moco, and the steamed buns. I loved the fried chicken here. It tasted light (not heavy in oil or batter) but the chicken was moist. The ube waffle was a nice deep purple color. It didnt taste very strongly of ube to me but I still really liked it. The loco moco was very filling and the meat was soo tender. I can see why that's a favorite. The steamed bun were very soft. Unfortunately I didn't personally like the sauce the meat was in. It tasted a bit too strong like vinegar to me. But that's personal preference. Not pictured is the sunset mocktail. I love Asian fusion spots so I had to try this place since I was going to be in the area. This restaurant offers a Hawaiian Filipino menu. Everything sounded great. We enjoy chicken and waffles and pork belly so that's what we ordered. The chicken and waffles comes with an ube waffle and a slightly spicy maple syrup sauce. It was delicious. The crispy pork belly lechon was tender and flavorful with a crunch. It comes with steamed rice sprinkled with furikake and topped with an over easy egg. Runny yolks are fine but not raw egg whites. I carefully pushed it aside. The seaweed salad made the dish a little too fishy tasting as well. I like it in my poke bowls but not in this. I also bit into something bitter. I don't know what spices were in this but that also threw me off. Sometimes less is more. Presentation was beautiful though. Service was impeccable. Looking for a homestyle Hawaiian/Filipino meal? Then look no further than Kehaulani's Café. Located on the Motel 6 property. When I walked inside, the ambiance of the "Aloha Spirit" was apparent with the island music in the air along with the pleasant greetings from the servers. The menu is expansive with traditional Filipino/Hawaiian dishes with a flair of new style techniques for a modern twist. My groups breakfast order was the Sizzling Sisig with egg, Da Loco Moco, Fried Chicken with Ube Waffles, and the Mini Malasadas. Da Loco Moco is not your typical burger patty but instead a braised short rib that is tender and flavorful. The gravy was not as salty as I am used to for my other gravies but still works none the less. The sisig comes out on a cast iron mini-skillet with all the sizzling aroma fanfare that is customary when in the Philippines. Despite not being made with pig jowl or face, the pork belly does a good job on holding on to the traditional spices and flavors that one would expect from a good sisig plate. Kehaulani's Café is a good reminder of how Hawaii/Filipino food should be done with a modern twist. The flavors and traditions of each dish are joyfully present but at the same time good enough for the modern palate to appreciate. Actually, we couldn't just tell, they straight up told us. You know, the typical tension between the servers and the kitchen, nut our server really did her best to try and bring her and our vibes up. The morning we were there, there was a live band, and they were great! My family and I were grooving and singing along as we ate. For the food, we ordered malasadas, loco moco, longsilog, and a lechon bowl. The malasadas were fine. I mean, it's kind of hard to mess up fried dough, but they were nowhere near what we would have in Hawaii. They were served with a chocolate dipping sauce, which helped. The loco moco was bland. The longanisa was also bland. My mom ate one, and took the rest home with the intention to recook later, but didn't go back to it. The lechon bowl was good, but I wouldn't call it lechon, since it wasn't crispy. It was pretty much just braised pork belly. For the drinks, I had a chocolate macadamia iced coffee, and my parents got chocolate macadamia lattes. Yeah, both tasted like coffee-flavored water...I wouldn't recommend the coffee. First disappointment for our party was not knowing bottomless mimosas are with orange juice only- would be a good thing to add on to the menu. I had ordered the Kalamansi Highball, but after asking where the drink was a few minutes after everyone else had theirs, I was informed they could not find the juice. I was recommended the Mojito and I obliged, but was not a huge fan of the taste. The food was delicious, but we were expecting the guava butter with the warm sweet rolls. We were the second group of customers that arrived that morning aside from one other couple that were already seated. When my sister asked for the longsilog the worker walked to the kitchen & came back to our table & said "it's not ready yet, 30 minute wait"- wait what? First off, if you are going to have an item on your menu make sure it's ready prior to opening your doors so it's available to your patrons. She ordered the lechon bowl instead. I ordered the sizzling sisig & requested an over medium egg. What did I get? A raw egg cracked over my sisig. NOT what I ordered. The portions here are extremely small for the price you pay. Lastly, if you pay with a card, they tap on an additional $2.95 card service fee- can this experience get any worse. . So if you do decide to eat here, & mind paying the extra fee to run your card make sure you bring cash. On our way walking out, 2 large tin mixing bowls fell from the kitchen & went flying onto the floor by the entrance/exit; didn't see anyone pick it up. I hope they washed those bowls before using it. The chicken adobo rice omelette was decent, but the sauce made the whole thing a little mushy. So, we watched an episode on Bay area check please. This restaurant was one of the locations on the episode. I think we expected to see more of a Filipino types of dishes there. But basically we had options of loco Moco dishes, a burger that looked huge. And special's of the day. Which out of the three choices they only had 1 available. But we chose two chicken loco Moco dishes which were impressive. I had mine fried chicken and my wife had hers grilled. Fried eggs and over white rice. We asked for the mushroom gravy on the side. Which was a good idea because the gravy seemed a bit salty for me. My boyfriend's been coming here for years and was telling me about the loco moco so when i was in town visiting we decided to come try it. The place is cute with the Hawaiian vibe and the staff are all super sweet and attentive. We got parking right out front, and we were sat immediately. The loco moco was so good. The beef was slow cooked and tasted so tender and savory. I loved the garlic rice, we ordered it substituted for white rice in our dish, but they brought significantly less of it than the normal white rice portion so we had to order another side of it halfway through. But it was so yummy. The omelet was the adobo chicken fried rice and it was a little disappointing all in all, i felt the flavors and textures left something to be desired. Cute little spot for some Hawaiian and Filipino fusion eats, but the food overall left much to be desired. Came here a few months ago during Vallejo restaurant week to check them out. They were offering bento box specials during restaurant week, and the one that they posted on their IG page looked delicious. Unfortunately, that particular bento wasn't available when I went there as they change their bento box combos daily (didn't find this out until I got there). Their restaurant is located in a very discreet location on a random side street. Not gonna lie; I passed it up twice before actually finding it. They've got a tiny parking lot but there's also street parking too. I walked in and was warmly greeted by the staff. The staff seems to mainly be kids, but they were all really sweet. The interior space is very homey but also really dated. The seats could use some reupholstering, but I digress. Ended up ordering their special daily bento box and a fresh pineapple juice. The bento box came with crispy chicken, beef kalbi, lumpia, mac salad, and a silog topped with gravy. The pineapple juice tasted very fresh. Loved the crispy lumpia and the silog with the rich gravy. The chicken was pretty good, but I could have done without the sauce. The sauce was too sweet and chicken was way too saucy for my liking. I'm usually not a fan of mac salad, but this one was light and mild without that overly heavy mayo taste which I appreciated. The kalbi was unfortunately dry and appeared to be overcooked. I came about an hour before closing, so maybe that's why the food didn't taste spectacular, but it was decent overall. I like the idea of the bento because it's a nice showing of both their Filipino and Hawaiian food items. They had the music blasting but they were playing ALL the hits. The louder music might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. I was up in there jammin', jammin'! I left right before they closed, but I appreciated that they didn't rush me out. It seems like the staff was having a good time winding down their day. Although I wasn't blown away, I felt like it was solid for my first visit. This was my second time here; the first time we actually ate at the restaurant during brunch and they had karaoke! Super fun aloha vibes and friendly staff. This visit, I took my meal to go and ordered: -Warm Sweet Rolls: these tasted so warm and fluffy and homemade! The guava butter melted on the butter but honestly had the just the right amount of sweetness that made it delectable. -Chicken Moco: they were out of the sisig bowl so I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she said this was a popular one- I can see why! It has a crunchy breading and the mushroom gravy had me going back to dip my chicken into. The eggs weren't as runny as I wanted them to be, but that's only because it was to go and dried up on the drive. The only reason I took off a star was the location/parking which is kinda sketch. Noelle's Yelp Notebook Pandemic Chronicles 10/01/21 TLDR: Skip it. Kehaulani's Cafe is located in Vallejo, California next to a Travelodge Motel. It's obscure and easy to miss from the road. Thanks to Yelp, I found this spot which looked promising. The Yelp photos boasted of Ube waffles and delicious eats. The Yelp reviews were a mixed bag but I decided to try it out. There is indoor dining and takeout available. We arrived at 12:15 PM on a Friday and upon entering it was empty and there were zero food aromas. AJ was our waiter. He was friendly and polite. We sat in a booth at a very dusty table. We were given menus and our drink order was taken promptly. Our order One calamansi drink Waters for the table Malasadas Chicharrón Longanisa lunch platter Pork Belly Bowl Katsu Loco Moco (2) Halo Halo Malasadas were hot and slightly doughy in the center, they were tasty, served with chocolate sauce on the side. The Chicharrón was fried to perfection and a great appetizer. The longanisa platter was sad. The longanisa tasted old and the garlic fried rice was more like steamed garlic rice with soy sauce. The pork belly bowl was promising - good flavor, everything was fresh (even the meat). The issue is the meat was on the fatty side. There were a few pieces of pork belly that was more meat than fat but unfortunately it was more fat than meat. The Katsu loco Moco was burned so badly I sent it back after one bite. The chef came, stood at a distance with no mask on to tell us that he tasted my dish (that I took a bite of) and it didn't taste burned at all. He was rude and argumentative in front of my family and eight year old son. The Katsu was old tasting meat (we ordered two)- one was burned which was taken off our check. Everything went downhill after the chef was confronted me about the burned Katsu. It literally took 15 minutes to get the Halo Halo that lacked ice, milk or beans. This was my worst dining out experience in my 14 consecutive years of being Yelp Elite. I don't care if I'm spending $5 or $5,000 - I write my honest experience. The food was burned, the meat was old, the chef was rude, the restaurant was dusty and beyond disappointing. The chef was upset and took over 15 minutes to make a Halo Halo when we were the only customers in the restaurant and they clearly weren't busy. I believe he was upset from my complaint on the burned food he took forever to make the Halo Halo to spite me. I was really taken back with the chef's rude demeanor. Learn from my experience and save yourself time and money- SKIP IT. Do yourself a favor and not eat here. I understand limited menus during the pandemic. So arriving here was a bit of a task, these guys are right next to TravelLodge. So you HAVE to turn into the TravelLodge entrance because it's at the right. It almost looks like an office to TravelLodge, but it isn't. Onto the food! So altogether we order the capuccinno, adobo rice in omelette, and the langsilog plate and the malasada. The cappuccino did NOT taste like a cappuccino. It had too much milk and not enough coffee. They used whole milk and did not offer any alternatives, which is forgivable, so it had no bearing on the star status. It is the fact that it tasted more like hot milk than coffee that dropped a star. Next off, the adobo rice omelette. Well I've had my fair share of adobo and this didn't taste like it. It was quite pretty, but did not fit the bill, it lacked the rich and savory adobo taste, so minus 1 star for that. The omelette it self was a typical egg omelette, so no deductions for that. The salad garnish was old and the color of the lettuce was discolored from sitting out too long. Not fresh. The langsilog was another issue. The rice was mushy, not quite baby food mush, but it turned to paste when you began chewing. There goes another star. The rice HAS to be left out overnight and then fried, that way it maintains it's texture. The longanisa also was not impressive. The cucumber and tomato was ok though. Ok, how about the malasada chocolate dessert. Well, the fried dough seems like it needed to stay in the fryer for another few minutes. My daughter loves sweets but couldn't handle eating more than a bite from it. Another star bites the dust. Whew! That meal is done and 3 stars down leaves me now with a 2 star review. Very disappointed for the price we pay and to get undercooked loaf of longanisa. Doesn't taste close to the regular sausage shape. My daughter's ube waffle came with syrup but with chili flakes. The person that helped me was very nice. Was in Vallejo yesterday and my boyfriend was looking up places to eat for lunch after visiting the graduate school I'll be attending - he came across Kehaulani's and I told him I knew about it because it's owned by my cousin's girlfriend's family but still haven't tried it! We decided to pay a visit during peak lunch time. The restaurant is right by the freeway (super convenient) and has its own little parking lot for customers to pull up to. The venue definitely gives off welcoming vibes, with a cozy yet spread out interior, island music playing throughout the restaurant, windows letting plenty of sunlight in, and friendly faces from the staff. We started with the POG and pineapple mimosas and sifted through the menu debating what would be good for lunch. I saw malasadas with chocolate sauce and immediately asked for that (which I did NOT regret - those bad boys were so soft on the inside and tasted delicious!) My boyfriend went on to order the sizzling sisig and I had the chicken and ube waffle! Food and drinks were 5/5 in taste, portions, and affordability. Sisig was tender and we loved the concept of the pulled pork for it. The chicken on the chicken and waffle plate was crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well seasoned! I asked for some banana ketchup so I could eat it with my chicken, and our server (after noting how she loved the enthusiasm I had for our meal) said I was the first person in their five years of business to ask for Jufran (that's one of the banana ketchup brands we have from the Philippines)! The waffle had a hint of cinnamon to it, which I loved as well since it added pizazz to the already soft and chewy texture. I can see why this place was voted best Filipino food in Solano County 3 years in a row -- it's A+ all around! Staff was friendly and helpful, food was A1, and venue had excellent ambience. I tried the lechon with garlic rice. The food was very good. Service was ok. I kept asking the waiter for a straw but she ended up giving me a shot. Which was very in convenient because it was early to be drinking. But overall would go back. read more
