This place is a random spot off East 2nd st in Benicia. I wouldnt have even known about it, if I hadent been invited for a group brunch. Benicia Grill is clearly an original diner in town cause doesnt seem to have been updated since the 70's but I guess that's how you keep cost low. It was busy for a Sunday afternoon but then again its a small place set up for breakfast and lunch. Our group had a variety of plates from a tuna melt to frech toast and sausage. Solid breakfast spot located in Benicia's industrial complex. Jillian was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and provided good suggestions. We had the pancake combo, French toast combo, and the shrimp and avocado skillet. Everything was good and the food came out pretty quickly. So this is a place I haven't been to much but my coworker didn't bring lunch and the name Benicia Bar and grill came up so we ordered. We both ordered the cheese steak sandwich with fries. The roll was toasted but the meat is not the traditional sliced ribeye from a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The meat was more like strips like that of a fajita and wasn't seasoned well. My friend and I needed some lunch so we decided to get takeout from Benicia Grill. I ordered the Benicia burger with fries and my friend ordered the tri-tip cowboy sandwich and fries. My fries were pretty good, I was not disappointed. The burger patty was bland. I checked it to see if maybe it was a vegan option patty but it looked like a normal meat patty. The veggies and bun were good just no meat flavor or spices on the burger, so it was a little disappointing. My friends Tri-tip Cowboy sandwich was great according to him. I had an alumni luncheon here yesterday. What a pleasurable time we had. It was a group of 13 and the lunch menu section had approximately 30 gourmet sandwiches to choose from, plus 8-9 handcrafted salads. Plus more items to choose from. Service was outstanding and our waitress made sure of that. The manager/owner, he was pleasurable and fabulous. He did everything possible to make our visit enjoyable and memorable. Came in on a Thursday morning. There weren't too many people so we were asked to seat ourselves. The menu and pricing has changed since I last came around a year or so ago. I made the mistake of ordering something off the menu that they used to serve which was grilled cheese with pepper jack, the cheese is different than before and did not melt at all onto the bread. Other than that everyone else at my table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Once we were seated, two other parties were seated a couple minutes after us. This place has declined at such a rapid pace that it is unbelievable. The place is in need of a good deep cleaning and spruced up decor. I ordered a lettuce wrapped burger with a side salad. My salad came out first and it was frozen lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. It still had ice crystals on the food. The lettuce was the pieces closest to the core and had turned brown. I received my burger the outside was covered with their sauce just an absolute mess to try and pick up. It became a fork and knife burger. Upon biting into the burger. I released the same frozen tomatoes were on the burger. Just an unpleasant food experience and to think the cook is proudly serving his quality food product. Some is amiss here. read more

I came here yesterday with my family for breakfast and I am thankful that they made special accommodations for us. When I say special accommodations, we brought our Frenchie with us and needed outdoor seating. The outside area wasn't set, but the staff was quick to prepare the table for us. For food I had the chicken fried steak. It's very tasty and had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside. The hash browns were the perfect amount of crisp too. One thing that I always appreciate is ordering coffee and the waitress keeps it full until I overdose on caffeine. The staff did a great job and loved my pup. Overall, this is a pretty good breakfast spot. If you've read previous reviews of mine, I always have a soft spot for places that allow dogs. Thank you for doing that. Ok so... I've been here about 5-6 times due mainly to convenience. Yesterday was the first time my daughter joined us. She got the Santa Fe Skillet and said it was one of the best breakfast skillets she's ever had thus far in life, she's 22. I usually get the French Toast which is ok. I've also had the French Dip sandwich which was also ok. I'm 10% French so maybe I need to branch out more. My boyfriend always seems satisfied being here. This last trip was the first time there were multiple waitresses in there since Covid. It was nice to see so many people again. They also recently redid their menu showing photos of the lunches which is great but the descriptions were such a small print it's nearly impossible to read. Kinda funny since a good portion of the people who go here are elderly and probably can't read it. read more

I have been on the hunt for a Benicia Restaurant that has a tasty hearty salad without having to take a loan out to pay for it! Today, I decided to give Benicia Grill a try. The Buffalo chicken salad sounded great! The employee who took my phone order was nice. The salad was ready for pick up in 10 minutes. Great! I returned to work to eat and was beyond disappointed with the $17 Buffalo Chicken Salad that I had just paid for. See pic below. This salad is so sad. There is a container FULL of iceberg lettuce, some chopped green onions, a few slivers of carrots, a sprinkle of cheese and 1/4 of a chicken breast. Now I know why there are no ingredients listed for salads on their menu....there are no ingredients on this salad. Save your money folks...you can purchase more than 10 heads of iceberg lettuce for that amount! read more

I used to eat here a lot. If used to be a great place, great service and prices. The last five or six times I ordered from them things got progressively worse. The first thing that happened was my orders were not being made correctly. No big deal everyone has off days right? Then I took my class down there for lunch after they all passed their finals, one of them ordered French toast. There was mold on the crust of the toast. How do you let that get past the cook and the waitress to the floor? They did replace it, no real apology, no discount offered. Nothing. Final straw was a couple weeks later. Ordered pancakes from them via DoorDash. The pancakes were for my coworker. While chewing his food he discovered an 8" long hair inside his pancake. I complained to DoorDash and got no where. This incident caused me to dump DoorDash and Benicia grill. I tell everyone I know not to go to this place now.
