On a Saturday in March we had a craving for sushi and a combo deal popped up in Social Media that we could NOT pass up with curbside pickup - talk about easy breezy. Three different combo options that included miso soup plus added bonus we spotted a deal for 25% off wine, beer and sake...ummm dinner and drinks, yep this gal was ordering before her hubby could change his mind LOL Of course anytime you have a hunger for sushi you lose your mind and start ordering everything on the menu, cause you all know that you want one of everything...tell me I'm lying LOL...so we lost our minds and order enough for welllll as Kei Sushi provide for us at least four people and it was just the two of us - yes I am laughing as I write this. Because we seriously put a hurt on the delicious offerings and ourselves. We ordered two Combo #3: Miso soup ~ PERFECTION!! Dragon Balls (Stuffed Jalapenos) ~ daBOMB!! Overall, ordering was simple as Kei Sushi in Carson setup a second phone line for the additional curbside takeout, upon our arrival we called to let them know we were there. They came right out with our order, the staff was in gloves and masks (this was back in March - I would like to add as a side note). It was AWESOME to have a sushi feast on a Saturday night as a date night at home and if you are craving sushi I would recommend grabbing one of the combo specials. Hands down my favorite sushi place in the Reno/Carson area. If you are in either city, this place is an absolute must. I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. The Carson city location is great- always welcoming and I always get seated quickly. They have such a long list of rolls and what I love is that every roll is different, unlike some places where all the rolls seem to taste the same. Service is always quick and they are always attentive. I like that this place offers table seating, booth table and bar seating. It's calm with dim lighting and makes for a romantic date night or a classy night out with friends. Give this place a try! You won't regret it. read more

Very colourful, incredibly flavourful. It's easy to see why the place is packed. No seats to be had at the bar. Reservations heavily recommended for the tables. A serious sushi venue right here in north Carson City. I feel that with sushi you can't define a failure or success based on taste. It's sushi and tastes and opinions vary. Presentations are uniquely that way, also. I can guarantee a relaxed family friendly restaurant that is ideal for folks of all ages. It's also conducive to large groups. We totaled 12 folks tonight and we were seated and treated to a wonderful experience pretty quickly. Prices may seem steep but value to money wise it all works out. There are non-sushi options available and the saki flows freely! There's even carry out. Parking is a cinch with plenty of spots right in front of the eatery. First off... the rice is not good. There is good here, tempura and soft shell crab. This is not a review of their sushi which is on the thin side and mediocre. If I were to rate them for sushi it would be 2 stars. Sadly they don't have sashimi or Nigiri type plates or other traditional Japanese entrees. What I do like here is their soft shell crab and their tempura plate. Both of these are excellent. Their soft shelled crabs are large and served with tempura sauce and are delicious. The tempura plate is large, the shrimp are large and properly cooked. They come with a large serving of a variety of vegetables that are well battered. My only minor griipe is that they're served with teriyaki sauce, not tempura sauce... you'll need to ask for that if you want it. What could make this better? Proper steamed rice, which they don't seem to have as the tempura is served with sushi rice that has too much vinegar... or something...., sliced cabbage for the teriyaki sauce and shredded dycon for the tempura sauce... which would be traditional. read more

This is specifically about the food. The sushi was not good. We could not really eat it and it didn't taste fresh. I would not feel comfortable eating any sushi here unless it's cooked. We are from Toronto and have sushi very frequently. I'm guessing the love for this place comes from their great happy hour deals. But if you have a taste for good sushi I would likely look for another place. Wish we could have enjoyed it more but ended up not eating most of the rolls we ordered. read more

For $31 and change this all you can eat in CARSON CITY OF ALL PLACES lives up to the Bro and Twin's hype. It helped that they've already tried the menu and know what's up so I didn't have to waste my time figuring out what I wanted, or wasting food if I didn't like a roll. Baked mussels were delicious. A little overcooked at some parts but tasty for all. Salmon nigiri comes with slices of lemon. Salmon could be cut thicker but it hit the spot. The great white has escolar, a light white sauce, and crushed macadmia nuts. This was tasty and my first time trying escolar. Loved the torched taste. Escolar nigiri was also good, melted in my mouth, a fatty oily fish. No ikura and unagi is only one serving per table. We had some other dishes but I don't remember them. Everything tasted great and I wished we weren't so full from lunch. I would've eaten more. Would love to come back, it's a two hour drive for me. read more

I have tried every sushi place in town and I end up comparing them to Kei Sushi. They are consistently fantastic time after time and everything is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The service is expedient, efficient and so friendly - I have NEVER (not even once) been disappointed. I have been coming here for years and I was thrilled when they opened their Reno location - which is bigger, but just as incredible. The owners know what they are doing and the staff are all well trained and happy. They are so clean and sanitary! Let me repeat that for everyone in the back.... THEY ARE SO CLEAN AND SANITARY! All of the workstations are clean and the shops are meticulous about making sure that there is no crossover of ingredients between rolls. All the fish is SUPER fresh - ALWAYS. After hitting up Carson City Hot Springs I was feeling some AYCE sushi and used my yelp app. and this restaurant was the closest to the hot springs so me and my old lady decided to try this place out. I'm not saying I'm the sushi king but this AYCE sushi restaurant has to be the best I've tried in all of Reno and Sparks NV! Who would've known that this spot was that amazing. Now lets get down to the food... Dragon Balls- This is on the appetizers portion of the menu and its jalapeno's stuffed with shrimp, spicy crab, and cream cheese. OMG! These bad boys were AMAZING!! We ordered about 4 plates of this and trust me, you have to try them. Fire Ball- This is in the Specialty Nigiri section and it comes with only 2 pieces. It's tuna topped with spicy tuna, fried onions and teriyaki sauce. Come on now tuna lovers, tuna on top on tuna..? What's there not to love about that? This is another must try if you like tuna. Everything here was fresh, made to order and the service was on point! Overall, Reno and Sparks need to step up their sushi game because I really don't want to drive 45 min to get my AYCE sushi fix. When I want local AYCE Sushi, this is my go to place. They are a variety of rolls and Nigiri to choose from. Wish they used less rice, but hey, nobody's perfect! I'd be here more often is such weren't the case, seriously! It's a nice sized place and can get packed especially on Fridays and Saturdays! Have had to wait minimum 30-45 minutes for a party of one. It attracts people of all sorts young and old. It's a casual place for all. Service is really attentive provided they get really busy! There are some dessert sushi rolls I've never experienced, not bad. Prefer my go to in Reno but won't hesitate to come here when the craving hits. read more

Don't get stuck by the sushi police. We didn't finish our AYCE and were forced to pay the extra $5 for not finishing my food. It's all good but rather petty but it's pretty standard here in NV. My Fuji Mountain with crystal shrimp and spicy mayo topped with Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado and spicy Krab was pretty good. Had I known that spicy Krab was a staple here versus an exception I would not have asked the chefs to come up with something unique. Instead it was more spicy Krab with tuna and salmon. Came to Kei Sushi on 9/30/2022 for my twin daughters 21st birthday dinner, we were a party of 12 all doing all you can eat sushi. We had a 7:30 p.m. reservation, three of us showed up at 7:40 p.m. we were promptly seated with our group, but it took the waitress at least 15 min. to come and get a drink order for us. We put our drink order in along with the first order of appetizers, mussels, and 10 pieces of nigiri, the three of us at the end of the table were going to share. It took approx. 30 minutes for us to get our order, and being that it took so long, I asked the waitress if I can put in our first dinner order of rolls, she responded saying no you have to finish this order first (the appetizers) .... Okay never heard of that before but OK! We finished quite quickly because the three of us were sharing and waited another 15 minutes for her to come back for our next order, although we noticed a black hair on our mussel, and when we brought it to the attention of the manager, she insisted it was mussel hair, again ok never seen that either but it was my daughters 21st birthday so let's move on! Another 15 minutes go by, they were the slowest ever! and that was for the whole table, we were sitting around waiting for orders, and waiting to order it was a bit ridiculous! Eventually the waitress came back to take our dinner roll order, we put it in but I noticed we ate the appetizers without ginger and wasabi, so I politely asked for it, she said well our policy is to only bring out the ginger and wasabi with the first order and she stated she did so when she brought out the order to the rest of the group at the other end of the table. I said I understand but we are a party of 12 so we need a few saucers of wasabi and ginger. She got really flustered and frustrated, I said take a deep breath don't get frustrated she was overwhelmed and had a bad attitude! The customer service was terrible, but the food was very good. I understand having a busy night could be frustrating, but we were celebrating a event, and spent $627.00. Not sure if we will give them another try at this time. read more

Absolute garbage. Hate to be that guy to say I've been in Carson City for this long and have been coming here for all these years...but I have. We use to love coming to this place. It is not the same anymore. I get prices going up, inflation and all that but this was just straight price gauging. The plates are incredibly small being "adult size". 12 dollars for some fried rice that could easily be my kids plate. The tipping point why I'm writing this though is that we ordered chicken fried rice for my one year old daughter which came with no chicken. So the owner decides to say " maybe she ate it all already." Out of touch, terrible service, high prices and overall just a horrendous experience. Definitely proceed with caution. I went here last night for the first time and had an amazing time. We had a reservation for a party of 6, we were promptly seated and our waitress helped us out very quickly. She was great and very attentive the whole night, remembering all the rolls and little things we asked for. The bussers were great too!!! They had eagle eyes to come pick up the plates as as soon as we were done with them since it was limited spacing with all the food we got. The food too.... I tried a little bit of everything and the rolls were SO tasty. There was so much variety and things to choose from. Everything tasted super fresh. Special shout out to who made the playlist, all the tunes were BANGERS and set a great ambience. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in cc!!! I usually visit for lunch at the end of the week. The all you can eat sushi is a favorite. The Sake raw nigiri is served with a 1/2 lemon slice, it is really refreshing. Portion sizes are large. Of the specialty nigiri my favorites are rooster salmon, and salmon lover. The dining area is large, and pleasant. Sushi chefs are friendly and keep the items coming. Highly recommend this place. Kei sushi was decent. It's hard to write a review for an establishment that sits right in the middle of the spectrum of food options. The decor is nice, the place was clean....enough and the staff was friendly. The sushi came out incredibly slow and when it arrived it was just OK. They do have some really fun and interesting flavors in some of their rolls but the rice was a little over cooked which makes sushi feel very heavy and the chew was a little gloppy and sticky. This is a better sushi restaurant than a few other locations in carson city! I came alone, so I sat at the sushi bar where the chefs prepare whatever you want. The price was not bad at all either (paid ~20, including taxes, for lunch ayce). They had limited items for lunch compared to their dinner menu, but I didn't mind because I usually come for nigiri/hand rolls. I felt like the service could've been better because sometimes I had to wait too long after I was already done with a platter. But these guys were nice and made sure I was doing okay & asked if I wanted more. I was surprised by the interior. It was actually pretty nice & trendy, and I would come here for a dinner date.
