3 stars and going down. I'm sorry to say this. Laura picked up the slack tho when the line Chef brought out our hamachi cama and simply handed it to us. We said what No rice? No eggs? Laura fixed it up real nice. We appreciated that. But it's not the same place. The turn over is so fast. We get good chefs and they are gone in a couple months. Truly Fandango, listen up! Pay your people more! Or give them the respect they deserve! They could stay and really get a following. You used to have this with Martin, and with Bri and DJ. Any more...Just an over priced only so so sushi bar. We won't be back for months. There will be a new crew when we do come back. I've reviewed this spot so many times. As you can see. I'm very disappointed now. We did have an observance that we've not seen at ANY sushi bar. Even this one in recent history. The trays of fish are normally covered in plastic wrap to keep the fish from drying out or absorbing the flavors from each other. Every case had At least one uncovered tray or tray where the plastic wrap was not replaced. In the past the chef would remove the fish needed then rewrap. Even the scallop sat in a bowl with no covering in it. And it's not like they were too busy to do this. Cody stood there gazing out at the casino. Unique menu options with a flair for originality. This was exactly what we were looking for after having the same or similar rolls everywhere we go. Dinner service is short and seating is limited so be prepared to get on a waitlist but the food and service is worth it!! With Shishen Sushi outside the Italian restaurant you can't miss it, staff greets you and the hostess is to the left of entrance of that restaurant and will be sure to let you know about how long next available seating is for waitlist. Once our seats were ready, we were warmly greeted with our sushi setup, handed. Wasabi, ginger, and water. Our drink order was taken and asked for our appetizer order, we chose Don won, cucumber salad and miso soup to start along with spicy upside-down shrimp...alll were delicious ~ the star was the Don won nachos...YOU MUST TRY THESE!! I personally love the ocean and hubby goes for LuLu every time. DJ, our host always serves up the best. Ask for the Don Won's. Sushi nachos made with wontons. If I could do 3.25 stars I would. Overall busy 15 seat or so sushi bar that is pretty cheap for what you get BUT for 2 sushi chefs and only 15 or less seats you will wait a while to get your order or might not get your full order. Overall: Worth a try but do allocate 90 min or so if you want to leave with a full belly. Location: Inside Fandango Casino way way in the back. Parking most likely will be using the parking garage and then walking through the casino. Value: For ATCE its 22.95 available for dinner only and a pretty fair price. Sushi quality: They like to use the heck out of mayo and seafood salad so if you are a purist or wants lots of nigiri choices might not be the place for you. Some of the maki was good some of it relied on toppings that meant covered in sauce. Staff: Very friendly but that means they work pretty slowly and take longer then a regular sushi bar. Staff is all American. They forgot 2 of our orders which was a bummer. read more

Sushi was pretty good, and so where the chefs rolling the rolls. The only downside is that the bar faces the casino so it can get loud. Given that it's a casino it smells like cigarettes so there's that. Also there's 2 sushi chefs and in the third station there's a cool making pizza for the Italian restaurant just behind the sushi bar, that's pretty odd. He kept touching food and grabbing his phone, so I will not be eating at that Italian place anytime soon. read more

Loved our sushi chef, funny engaging and accurate. I've been to tomo down the street and this place has the best hands down. Tomo always gets my orders wrong. Which is surprising being in a casino, but the fish was super fresh. This is coming from someone who can not stand the smell of salmon cooking, no matter how fresh. Also, our chef was very kind and let me modify a couple rolls, which was super nice and he remembered all the modifications to a que! Which never happens and I normally just pick off things once I get the roll. Always feels like a waste. Also, nice touches to the presentation as well as the flavor profiles. Rolls to highlight were the Godzilla, normally I can't do cooked yellow tail or raw, but my friend order this roll and the fish must have been super fresh cause I love it. Also the fandango roll was fabulous! Loved the lotus chips and the rice paper. Another one to note was the avalanche, the presentation looked like a little mountain with crab lava. So, for the people crying about service in here, let me be clear, it's in a casino. The people who have to bring you water and drinks and such have to walk around in circles to cater to your needs, literally, as they cannot pass it over the fish coolers. Sushi takes time, amazing sushi takes even longer. If you want mass produced garbage, there are plenty of sh**hole sushi places around Carson that will happily swap escolar into the place of any fish in any roll and tell you it's SUPER WHITE, WHITEFISH, or call it some other gourmet fish (Kim Lee's, National's, Kei, and Tomo regularly do this, with Kim Lee's being the absolute worst offender). The sushi is simply better here at Shinsen, IN FACT, it will blow any other sushi out of the water in a head to head taste testing... but... If you are trash, and like trash, go eat trash at one of the other Sushi places in Carson. read more

The quality of ingredients and preparation is outstanding! Having lived on the Pacific Coast most of my life, I can be a fairly tough judge of sushi/sashimi and rolls, but I was impressed. And good value for money as well...can't be beat. Perhaps my biggest issue is speed of service; we were there at a fairly uncrowded time (early Friday evening) but the two chefs struggled to deliver to the small crowd. This place listed itself as being kid friendly. We went here with the idea that we would be able to sit down and eat with our kids. Instead we arrived at a small sushi bar (maybe 10 seats at the bar) and most of them with reserved stickers on the chairs. There was no other seating whatsoever. Unfortunately we had to leave without even trying the food and since this is not a family friendly establishment as is advertised, I highly doubt we will even attempt to head back. We had delicious sushi here yesterday. Everything we ordered was good. We had rolls from the menu that all were really good. I loved the upside down shrimp. I also had them make me a roll that wasn't on the menu with cilantro, jalapeño and lemon and it was great. I cant wait to go back there. I wish tbe restaurant wasnt in a casino tho. read more

Would have given 5 stars if the service was better. Slow to getting our drinks and slow to serving them. The sushi was perfect and amazing, all rolls came out quick and were wonderful tasting. Went there on a Friday night for dinner with my wife. Haven't had sushi in over a year, all the dishes tasted fresh and the service was excellent. The green tea ice cream at the end was the only odd tasting thing and I would not recommend. Over all we will be back when the craving for sushi strikes us. read more

I love this place! Outstanding sushi and incredible rolls. This is one of my favorite spots and I visit Tokyo often, it's just that good. The cucumber salad is to die for and everything I have had on my numerous (maybe 20) visits has been very fresh and great quality. What really puts it over the top for me is the great staff both in front of and behind the counter. You can't find a nicer team anywhere! Our first clue should have been that on a Friday at 6 PM there was only one other person there. The food was terrible. We are currently on our way home waiting for the food poisoning. First off, we got the Cilantro roll, which was ok except for the big dot of plain mayonnaise on top. Next the chef made us an Avalanche roll, which he said is " the best role in Carson City." Sure, if you call a pile of crab salad a role. The icing on the cake for us was when he served us butterflied scallops. I swear they smelled so fishy we couldn't even hide it with wasabi and ginger.
