Based on the ratings we decided to try this place out. I got the Tekka and we tried Mongolian beef plate. Tekka was unevenly cut with some portions thicker than the others. The sea weed wrap tasted old and tough. It felt like I was paying for the garnish. Mongolian beef was tough also and didn't have a lot of spicy flavor. The ambience and decor are great and it's not overly loud. Our sushi chef, Isiah, made some nice suggestions right off the bat a they were delicious. The nigiri was very fresh and full of flavor. My new favorite sushi place in Reno! The sushi here is delicious, fresh and everything I love about good sushi. They had an amazing and unique menu (2 1/2 full pages of rolls!). It is a little nicer than your average sushi place in Reno, however the decor was very modern and inviting. I got the egg rolls, miso, gyoza , Tom roll, Red dragon and macho macho. Was not disappointed AT ALL. My boyfriend who is not a sushi lover ordered the Mongolian Beef and loved it (wasn't a fan of crispy noodles and will order w/o next time). Overall it was an okay experience. Food was good. Mussels were great. However. We didn't get our food till about an hour after being there. They had one sushi chef @ 5pm on a Saturday. Till one of their girls got behind the bar and started knocking orders out. The lack of attention was kinda why I am putting 3 stars. One lady sat us down took our order then didn't check on us the rest of our visit. She was too busy seating folks and answering the phone. I love their Lily Roll. It is a cooked roll - tempura shrimp avocado and goodness. I usually just do alacart because I cannot eat enough for the all you can eat $24 but decided to try. The philly roll was pretty good, the short had lots of flavor, samurai also had full flavors but still can't touch the lily. I visited Kei twice this week! This is my new favorite spot in town! The menu has an awesome mix of traditional rolls you know and love and some new and interesting rolls I haven't seen on any other menu in town. My favorite roll is probably the Tiburon- salmon, spicy tuna, pickled jalapeño, daikon and sesame seeds. The service was awesome too! So I have been putting off writing this because I don't have anything positive to write sadly and my mom always said, " if I have nothing nice to say then I should not say at it all." In this case, I will try to my best not to bash on them. It takes a lot to run a business, so I don't want to take that away from them. Lets first talk about service. Got seated, and we weren't given an order sheet, which kind of threw me off a little bit, but I rolled with it. We had 3 different servers, which confused me.I was excited about their muscles since I had read that they are the best muscles in town. Once the muscles arrived, they looked a little different from usual, I'm not sure, but I believe they were baked. I tried them, and honestly I wasn't a huge fan. They didn't taste bad, but not very appetizing either. That was the only appetizer I got and unfortunately did not seem to care much about it. At this point, I knew I still had hopes from the sushi. I ordered my absolute favorite sushi which is the good ol sake (fresh salmon with rice and a slice of lemon). Not sure, how you can simply go wrong with that, unless the fish isn't fresh and that's what it seemed like to me. it made me rather frustrated, but continued to order more rolls in hopes of finding something good, but that didn't happen. I don't know if I was ordering the wrong stuff or what? The seaweed that was wrapped around the sushi had a weird chewy texture. it was really off putting and left me confused. now the time for desert has come, I wanted a mochi ice cream which typically is my favorite part of AYCE sushi. Guess what? if you want mochi ice cream, its an extra dollar. Im sorry, I am not going to pay an extra dollar if I did not even enjoy my sushi. if my overall experience was good, I wouldn't care paying the extra dollar. UGH, such a poor experience and I'm honestly so confused by my experience and the reviews the place has. I don't want to say I wont be returning, but I will definitely be hesitant. read more

From the moment you walk in, you will be impressed by such a big, open and beautiful restaurant! Red curtains hand to cover the windows and the lights are dim. Definitely the nicest looking sushi restaurant I've been too and large enough to accommodate big groups. We were promptly seated and our server was Alex who was very kind, attentive and made us laugh(always a plus!) For drinks my girlfriend ordered a mojito and I had a saporro. We both enjoyed our drinks and they came out fast and my beer was served cold in the bottle with a chilled glass. Now onto the food! Let me start with, I do not like or eat seafood. However, Sushi is my girlfriends favorite, so I always order whatever I can that is meat or chicken. To my surprise, there were some great non seafood options! Mongolian Beef was what I decided on. It was delicious, with red bell peppers and a small side of rice, definitely the best meal I have ever had at a sushi restaurant. The only thing I would do differently next time is it came with "crispy noodles" which were clear plastic like noodles with no flavor and just made it harder for me to get to the meat, so I would ask for just the meat and rice next time. I might ask for extra rice too as the meal was not as filling as I would hope, but this is typical at sushi places for us non sushi eaters. We did order an OMG dessert roll and OMG it was excellent! Morgan, another great server recommend we order it with ice cream, we didn't, but after eating the dessert roll I can see why she said that and I would recommend you do! This is my favorite sushi place in town now thanks to the great non sushi options and my girlfriend said her sushi was the best sushi she had ever had! Not my favorite Sushi spot in Reno. Place alone has a really cute "romantic" interior, but their food is okay. Rolls are humongous hence why I don't recommend going all you can eat here since they put so much rice. For appetizers, I tried their dragon balls and baked mussels. Personally, dragon balls were really good, but those mussels were very rubbery so no never again. I recommend getting their specialty nigiris called rooster salmon and salmon lover, despite of the crazy amount of rice, it was still yummiez. I also tried the salmon skin hand roll, great white roll and geisha long roll. Frankly, it was not my favorite. Salmon skin was burnt, great white roll was too much mayonnaise it made me want to puke. Gave it two solid stars for the nice ambiance and great staff. read more

They use so much sauce on everything you can't taste the sushi for what it is. Most of the rolls that sounded interesting were dinner only. If not then seemed like it had cream cheese which I'm not a fan of on raw fish. Mussels were drenched in teriyaki sauce not good. Rice to fish ratio strong on the rice. read more

There hasn't been many impressive AYCE sushi experiences for us, but Kei just made it to our list. Nice ambience, huge menu selection, beautiful presentation, and unique rolls full of flavor and filling. We usually stick to rolls because we enjoy items with a good mix of cooked and raw fillings and avoid nigiri or sashimi altogether. However, the Kei Tuna nigiri was the best item of the night. Slightly seared and full of flavor. The baked mussels was also delish. What we liked here that sets Kei apart is that they will make any roll on the menu as a handroll, a big plus when you need good cooked/raw combo options. All rolls we ordered were beautifully presented and full of flavor. The only two that were just okay are the Double Double and the Miami Dessert roll-recommend to skip with all the other options available. Tip- we wished we ordered half rolls by the end of the night. The rolls are good sized and filling, and there were at least five more options we really wanted to try. The four star rating instead of five was due to the service. While service was quick and we received our food quick, our waitress was a bit off, forgetting our drinks and getting a few things mixed up with the bill and some little things in between service. read more

My wife and I were looking for restaurant around McCarran Blvd, and came across with this Sushi place. It's located in the summit ridge mall, and decided to check it out. The interior design was elegant and it's a bit different from most of the sushi places I've visited. It has gold color walls, red curtains and dark ceiling. The server came to our table to take the order. (they didn't give us a pen and the order list like most of other sushi chain restaurants. I think it's a good way to have more accurate order; we have many incidents where we get food we didn't order or didn't get the food we ordered.) We started with baked mussels, himachi rolls, salmon skin handrolls. Baked mussels were a bit different, but really delicious. Salmon skin handrolls were crispy, but they may have added sourcream; normally I don't really like sourcream in sushi, but it was made okay. For the main rolls, we ordered Rooster Salmon, spider roll, and alligator rolls. Both rooster salmon and alligator rolls were very tasty, but spider rolls were meh, didn't quite meet our expectation. While we were on our last roll of sushi, the server came with a deep fried jaw of a himachi, a complimentary from the owner, and it was very crispy, fresh and delicious! Both my wife and I love it very much. To finish with the AYCE Lunch, both of us ordered the usual creamy Green tea ice cream. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in after grabbing some groceries from Trader Joe's. We were lucky they were not very busy around 3pm. Unfortunately we missed the lunch pricing, but on the bright side of paying for the dinner all-you-can-eat price we were able to order some of the dinner-only roll selections. Being from the Midwest, there is a lot more sushi roll variety here than back home. The fish is fresh and the chefs and staff are friendly and accommodating! Located in the shopping center next to Trader Joe's, some may recognize this restaurant as the old Minato noodles/sushi.  I remember it being super small inside, but Kei Sushi has really changed it up and made it look super spacious.  The inside is super gorgeous and looks really upscale, and they have nice décor as well.  We were seated very quickly and received service quickly as well.  They also have an extensive wine and alcohol menu.  The way they take orders is different from any other sushi restaurant I have been to.  The waiters actually write down your order, where I am used to just marking which rolls I want on a order sheet.  I feel like this may be a little inefficient, as it is way easier to have customers just mark what they want; but to each their own.  They had some really great appetizers including mussels and potstickers and dragon bals (large jalapeno poppers).  Their rolls were impressive and nigiri had a nice rice to fish ratio.  The rice was not overbearing which is great.  They really decorate the sushi they make; we ordered the volcano which came out all nice on a wooden platter. They also take risks with their sushi; they offer dessert sushi, which is a really bold move, because everytime I have tried dessert sushi it has usually not worked out.  However, their dessert rolls were pretty good! I had the Miami which was really good. They also offer ice cream for dessert.  Overall I am impressed with how pretty it is inside and their good sushi. read more

Kei sushi is one of, if not the best, all you can eat sushi restaurants in Reno. They had a great variety of rolls to choose from, and even more that I will have to come back and try that were on their dinner menu. The desert rolls were also fantastic. I can't wait to go back! read more

My first trip here was a mommy daughter date. Mind you my daughter is 4 and like many young kids can be a bit picky and unsure of new things. Regardless we both LOVED everything. To begin our dinner we were promptly greeted by the staff and allowed to choose our own seating. Our beverages were brought quickly as well as our soup and appetizers. Our server was even considerate enough to inform me that not only do the mussels take a tad longer so if I would like them to order them right away. He also let me know that is should order 2, which I most definitely did. Very glad for that choice as they were beyond tasty. As many people know the ordering of mussels can often be skimpy. Many places do not allow you to order too much. They were not one of those places. Made for my happy night as I'm a huge mussel fan. For my daughter they were above and beyond with accommodations. The really likes tobiko so they made sure she got her foll with the nigiri. Not too much rice but plenty of the "flavor savers" as our family refers to them. The seared tuna nigiri was put of this world good. I'm quite picky about my fish being spoiled with a retired sushi chef that is a Japanese immigrant for a grandmother. I'll tell you wow was that good. To end things my daughter and I accidentally over ordered, she decided she was done last minute after ordering more. I offered to pay the additional to just now and bring home the last nigiri piece and half of a roll. I could no longer try to accomplish finishing it all as it is highly rude to waste. Again our server was sweet as pie and refused to make me pay the additional costs and allowed for me to bring the rest home. Then desert happened and they made my daughter the most adorable tempura banana and vanilla ice cream sundae with the sprinkles to top. This establishment won me over in many ways just from my one visit. Also for anyone curious they are amazing at offering gluten free and are especially careful not to cross contaminate. Overall great experience here, personally loved the sushi it's very different from the rest of the sushi around Reno. Definitely bigger pieces but well made. All the nigiri was super good and super fresh fish. Service was very slow for the amount of people inside but other then waiting a while to get the check the meal was overall very peaceful. There's options for everyone. The best item I had on the menu was the ceviche, it was out of this world and if I had the choice to buy an entire container of it I wouldn't think twice. I love kei sushi. As someone with celiac disease this is the only sushi place in town I can eat sushi at and feel comfortable and safe. It really makes a difference when the restaurant itself is knowledgeable on celiac disease and knows what food they order is and isn't safe. The restaurant is always clean and service is quick. All the employees always have a happy attitude, especially Kiera she is awesome! At this point I am a regular there and I don't think I will get tired of coming here anytime soon. The sushi is delicious. I've brought non celiac friends here and they love it just as much as I do and even made it one of their new favorites. My only critics would be that sometimes the rice portions are not consistent at times and rolls can sometimes come out too large with too much rice or too little. I also hope one day kei sushi will have a separate fryer for the gluten free fried options. I would love to try the fried sushi one day! read more

One of the worst dining experiences ever. From waiting roughly an hour to get just appetizers, reminding the server about our missing miso soups, and trying to get some chopsticks because there wasn't a pair set at the table. Sushi was not great. The long wait became dreadful and disappointing to say the least. The sushi was loaded with more than the average amount of rice. Almost two hours have passed and my table is still waiting for some sushi from the original first order. This is a fantastic sushi restaurant! The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and is clean. The staff all wore masks and gloves and required us to wear our masks when not eating or drinking, which we approved of. The food was absolutely delicious and cheap! All you can eat lunch for $19!
