I have been to many AYCE sushi restaurants here in the Reno area. I never understood how the fish can be so fresh out here in the high desert. But, it is! The service was very good. We were seated quickly. Now that can be attributed to the fact that we were early for dinner. We opted for a tabled, but there were plenty of seats available at the sushi bar. We only waited for a few minutes before the first wave of fish was delivered. Throughout dinner, we never had to wait long for the sushi to be delivered. The atmosphere was decent. It felt like it was more of a storefront than a traditional restaurant. But, it was a storefront and I don't care about that. I base my rating on freshness, service and cleanliness of the store. One thing that surprised me was the Kani (crab). I ordered it wondering if it would be real crab or imitation. It was real! I was happy and surprised. I ate my fill. Actually, I ate more than my fill. Enjoyed it completely. My sushi coma was justified. Soooo, I'm starting off with four stars. I may add another, after dining here for dinner as opposed to lunch. That being said, I am an Ohana regular, so I cheated on them today with O'A. So let's get the cons out of the way first. My son and I sat at the bar, and on the big screen against the wall, CNN FAKE NEWS was playing. Personally irritating, and I don't think they should be showing news shows from any side at a restaurant. We were in during lunch hours, and towards the end of our visit we were the last party there. That being said, clearing out our empty plates and getting refills wasn't very expeditious. I sat probably for about 15 minutes with an empty soda cup. I would understand if it was busy and at night. Disappointingly, lunch has its own separate menu, and you can't order dinner rolls for the lunch price, like you can at Ohana, Hinoki and other places I've been to and frequented. Now that, that's out of the way let's get to the rest of the review. I'm guessing the owners, we're super nice. We were greeted right as we walked in the door and chose our seats. Victor was our sushi chef. Great guy, and turns out some great sushi. The next time I go I will be sure to sit with him, but the other two Cooks were nice also. The entire restaurant, especially the bar area was spotless! I can tell they all take pride in what they do. My sin and I ordered probably 65% of the lunch menu. The quail egg shooters, whcih we ordered about a dozen total were SUPER good, and served in a modified Oriental soup "spoon" instead of a shot glass. Sort of awkward to eat, but doable and tasty. My personal favorite (lunch) roll was the "Crazy Dream" roll. SO many different flavor profiles. They had unique takes on some of the nigiri and appetizers, like the 'butterfly' and the tempura Jalapeno opposed to other sushi joints. So all in all, it was good enough for me to go back and give the dinner menu a try. We had a great dinner here with an ayce. The fish wasn't that big but we liked how the rice in the nigiri was small. And there wasn't any 90 minute limit. Our waiter was nice and efficient. And we got complimentary sake on a Thursday night. Where we live there is not any sushi ayce for $33. We enjoyed the scallops, unagi, maguro, salmon and hamachi nigiri's. We did not order any rolls. Tried about 8 AYCE Sushi places in Reno and I like this place, Ohana, and Tokyo Sushi (probably the most popular) the best. Appetizers, nigiri, and rolls here are usually a smidge behind Tokyo in variety, taste, and fish to rice ratio on the nigiri, but still very good -- definitely above average. They did dial back the amount of sugar in their rice since the last time I was here. Kudos! The dining experience here is a much more low-stress experience than Tokyo Sushi. There's usually little to no wait unless you're in a large group, as opposed to Tokyo's madhouse that has waits frequently of an hour. Music isn't blasting so you can hear the person at the other side of the table speak, and service is consistently excellent in the relatively small dining room. It's about $4 less expensive with tax and tip then Tokyo also at $42 vs $46 total as of July 2026. Employees here are so nice and friendly :) got their lunch AYCE. Fave was the Black Tiger Roll and the #2! Everything tasted fresh. My kid's fave was the Edamame and the Rainbow Roll. Everything was good...it was hard to pick! Parking was plenty and restrooms were clean. read more

O'A sushi is ahhmazing! First visit here and we were lucky to get right in and seated in the main dining room, as I've heard it can get quite busy. We had a late lunch so decided to just go for ala carte but wished we had done their all you can eat. We started with the calamari appetizer, cucumber salad and two orders of their potstickers. Their potstickers were the star of the show and I would go back here just to order these. Some of the best in town in my opinion! They were doughy and flavorful, still tender not too crispy and just the right size with a great potsticker slightly spicy sauce. We then ordered the Snow mountain roll, the caterpillar and rainbow. We loved the size of the rolls, not too much rice, flavorful, fresh and good. Before our order came out we were offered a sample of a new dumpling pork bun that was so good we wished we could order it; but the owner informed us it would be coming to a store next door soon - so stay tuned for a new O'A dumpling dim sum shop to open soon in the same shopping center. They skimp on fish in their rolls. So only go here if you like Nigiri. They have imitation crab in 80% of their rolls, it's almost impossible to avoid. The rolls are small and chewy. Reno does not have elite sushi in general, but you can do better elsewhere if you are seeking rolls. Their nigiri was decent. I'm due for an update! I'm glad I decided to return since being treated to a sushi dinner date here recently. The servers are great here and on the Chinese food side as well. I like the rolls offered on their dinner menu. The sushi chefs(guys) are hit or miss. For instance I'll order a roll as a hand roll and will come out a long roll. It's happened everytime or they'll serve us someone else's platter. So I keep track of what I order and ask what things are as they come out. I like having the option to have Chinese at the sushi half or vice versa. Bar or table seating like other sushi bars and tables are cleared off immediately. It's a plus that their restroom is clean. I only wish they would change their policy with the cards. I suggest whoever pays gets the stamps for the visit. We had friends visiting from out of town and they have no use for a stamp card at sushi here. read more

We've enjoyed the food here, but had a very frustrating experience with their punch card policy. My wife and daughter tried to redeem several O'A Sushi punch cards that together had enough stamps for 10 meals. The card says, "Buy 10 meals and get the 11th free." It does not say that all 10 stamps have to be on the same physical card, and it does not say "no combining cards." The frustrating part is that the restaurant also did not ask us to keep using one existing card. On prior visits, they simply handed out new punch cards, which is how we ended up with multiple partially stamped cards in the first place. Then, when my wife and daughter tried to use the stamps together, the restaurant refused and said the 10 stamps had to be on one card. They spent about 10 minutes discussing it with staff, but the reward still was not honored. I understand restaurants can set whatever loyalty program rules they want, but those rules should be printed clearly on the card and applied consistently. As written, the customer-facing promise is that if you buy 10 meals, you get the 11th free. Refusing to honor multiple stamped cards, especially after handing out new cards on prior visits, felt unfair and created an unnecessarily negative experience. The food may be good, but this left a bad impression. If the policy is "one card only," they should print that clearly and stop handing out new cards when customers already have active ones. read more

I brought the family on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't so busy, but then the dinner crowd started coming in and it started taking noticably longer to get our rolls. I get it, but some weren't so understanding. I liked that the sushi was fresh and the staff was kind. Although some of the rolls were pretty good, there wasn't enough for us to want to return. The rollers had a hard time with vegan orders, while they didn't add meat, they still added mayo. They would also plate them along side our rolls that had fish on them, after asking them to please keep them separate. I've been gatekeeping this place because although the place is small and is no frills, the service is really excellent and the sushi always fresh. At least every time I go there. I really like how their staff is so friendly that they take time to talk to you even though they're busy. And the chefs...I just have to say that they are very accommodating. If there's something you want that's not on the menu, just ask and they will try their best to accommodate. I do not like any sauce or mayo at all and they are really good at making sure I didn't have any in all of my orders. They even ask if you're ok with certain ingredients before serving your order to you. I especially like the fact that the portions are just right, and not too much rice. I have eaten at almost all the AYCE sushi joints in Reno and O'A Sushi is by far the worst. Is it the food, you ask, that has made for such a brutal review? Is it the mediocre sushi or the cramped dining space? No, rather it is the very nasty and unpleasant sushi chef that has ruined my dining experience on two separate occasions. While the heavy-set, Asian lady is one of the few women sushi chefs in Reno, her sneering, nasty attitude and lack of any tenable customer service skills has made for the worst sushi experience in my life. This was our first time coming here for sushi and it was a pretty good experience! We were able to be seated promptly upon our arrival around 5:30pm without a reservation. Prices for an AYCE dinner were comparable to other places in town. We came on a Monday which is when they had a deal for a free drink with AYCE, so we each got a beer to enjoy with our food. We ordered several appetizers and our favorites were the potstickers and mussels. We got so many different types of sushi and were pretty pleased with all of them except for the deep fried one, it tasted too crispy and almost like a fried chicken which was strange. The nigiri was the best part, we loved the salmon and yellowtail ones. The food came out at a good pace, we were never left waiting too long for the next round of food. We each got a dessert, I enjoyed their sorbet and my husband got tempura ice cream. The sushi quality is pretty good here, I would recommend the hamachi nigiri. It's located in a newer strip development, but the inside is what you expect from your typical sushi bar.
