After dealing with recurring drain backups for years, I had several companies come out to inspect the problem. Unfortunately, most of them would simply snake the line and move on without determining the actual cause. Recently, the issue became much worse. The drain was moving extremely slowly, and water began overflowing. I called Kellam, and their team responded quickly. What impressed me most was that they didn't rely on guesswork. Instead, they performed a camera inspection of the drain line to identify the root cause of the problem. I'm very thankful they did because they discovered years of buildup in the line, as well as a broken section of the pipe that had been contributing to the ongoing issues. Their technicians took the time to explain everything clearly and helped me develop a practical plan to clear the drain and install a pump system to improve water flow and prevent future problems. Not a fan. We've worked with Kellam Mechanical several times over the course of two years and service seems to have gotten worse with every interaction. We've had workers come into our home who had no clue what they were doing, left parts laying around instead of plugged in where they were supposed to be, and behaving in ways that I'd just say we did not care for and were very surprised by. When we called we'd get no response after multiple attempts, emails would go unanswered, and on and on. The more interactions, the worse the treatment got. When we looked at the DPOR website that checks licensing for the State of Virginia, we quickly learned that the actual company had either been bought out or taken over or merged (however you want to say it), by some company. I don't know the reason(s) for what in my opinion is unsatisfactory customer service or if being acquired has anything to do with it; but....yeah.....in a world gone insane, I don't need the drama of no responses after multiple calls and emails and service I find unacceptable. read more

They fixed a light/fan in our kitchen. No verbal or written estimate for the work. Charged just under $500 for one hours work with a maintenance contract. Their charges are unreasonable, could have bought another fan//light and have it installed. They are set up to sell you some service or product without regard to fairness and just to make huge profits. Never would use this business again and have requested a refund in full. read more

I requested emergency plumbing service because of a broken water pipe in the walls of my laundry room. A technician arrived within an hour, quickly located and repaired the breaks. He also cleaned up any mess that he made and was respectful of my property. Although it was expensive, it was well worth it since it was an emergency. And I was the technician's last call on a hot Friday afternoon. He got me back up and running with my laundry before the weekend. Fantastic job!! read more

Longtime Phillbrick customer, Kellam acquired them this past fall. Most unprofessional company I have ever worked with, Replaced my outdoor shower. About an hour and a half into the install, the technician informed me that he would have to alter the job, bc his drill ran out of power! I requested please do it too standard!. He also stated he had to complete it bc in his own words he said "I have kids to pick up at school"! Anyways after he said "i was able to make it work" this is the insulation job on the new pipes! Honestly a 3rd grader could have done a better job! The insulation wasnt up even an hour before it started to peel apart! I called the tech back and he said he would come back Monday to "do it right" since he only had that much insulation on his truck. Dispatcher called me back Monday am to inform me he would have to charge me to "do it right".i balked! Manager just called me back and informed me " he didn't see anything wrong with the job." And yes they would have to charge me again. Anyways I am finished with this 3rd rate rinky dink outfit ! What Kellam does not know is that I am in the process of having my crawl space encapsulated with a moisture barrier, and a dehudifier installed! I have used Kellam several times for new HVAC units. They are professional and do cost a bit more. However, more recently I had a gas 50 gallon water heater go bad and needed a new one. I decided to go with the better quality of Bradford White water heater. Kellam quoted me $6000 for the replacement. I had another company, who is a long standing quality provider in Norfolk, do the SAME work with the Same water heater for LESS than $3000. I understand maybe a bit higher than the competition with quality work, but others also provide quality work at WAY cheaper prices. Hi! I'm a new customer of these guys since my AC went out this summer. I don't typically leave reviews, but I felt like this one was justified. I had a new complete AC system installed in my home with them at the beginning of this month, everything went relatively smoothly and there were no known issues. What is somewhat concerning but understandable from a business and profit perspective, is that their service technicians that come out to diagnose are also their sales reps. They will try to upsell you as a good salesman should, and promise after signing everything will be straightforward from there. We ironed out pricing (after I was able to miraculously knock thousands of dollars off the exact same service I was quoted minutes before). I wanted to keep shopping around because I could see from the start how these people operate, but my family was living without AC so I decided to get them comfortable sooner and go with Kellam. These guys will get everything installed pretty quickly, but after that, do not expect to hear from anyone ever again (even if you are a part of their membership, as we chose to do for the 15% off installation they offer before they diagnose). Francesca is in charge of at least the financing from what I can deduce, I have attempted every few days to call anyone there and get very simple details about our 0% financing with them, I can reach the call team occasionally but I have never received a call back from her the entire month after service. The call team is essentially just a person transferring the calls to Francesca, so they are not of much assistance in that manner. At one point though they called my girlfriend's phone, left a message, and asked for a family member of mine who lives in another state and has nothing to do with my home (very strange to me). I reached out and spoke to their call team to correct the phone number and that was resolved. After a month, and at least 7 calls just from my phone, I have given up hope that they will ever attempt to reach back out to me via phone or email. I am extremely frustrated, and I want it known that they will not make it a priority to get you the most basic information you need after creating a financing contract for you. During our semi-annual service checkup, we quickly learned that service repair people are also sales people. They have a vested interest in getting the customer to buy upgraded / expensive equipment whether or not 8t is really necessary. Based on my experience with them, the service/repair/salesman using fear tactics, negatively distorted and exaggerated the condition of our heating/cooling unit to sell us a new very over-priced units. ATTENTION ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND VETERANS!!!!! They came out May 28 to take a look at my AC because it wasn't blowing air. The tech came, told me the problem, and asked if I wanted to sign up for the membership, which I refused. He asked for half the price upfront. I asked if it was okay to pay in full and he accepted. I was then told that my no later than date for repairs to be completed was June 4. It's now June 14 and still nothing. I've called multiple times since the initial review on May 28 and have been told that the part is here and I should get a call to schedule... still nothing. I called again and spoke to a manager and was told that nothing has been ordered because they were waiting for a credit approval for the membership that I DENIED. They also said I paid in half (FALSE) and when they realized their mistake they continued to drag their feet. I haven't heard a single how word from them whatsoever. I've since asked for a refund and this company has REFUSED to give my money back. They may have plenty of great reviews, but I will NEVER go with them again. read more

Unprofessional and overpriced. I was given a time, 9am, for my scheduled a/c maintenance.... no show. I rescheduled asking for the latest appointment and was given a 4pm-8pm time slot. Once again it didn't happen. Spoke with customer service and was told that the company switched their "scheduling time frame" policy a year ago and that they have had many complaints about it. Was then told that the I could schedule an 8am-10am appointment because that is the inly time slot they will schedule for. Was given a quote of 11,000 to clean air ducts and when I asked for an invoice I was only emailed the invoice for my scheduled maintenance. I have canceled my maintenance contract and would NEVER use this unorganized, overpriced company again. read more

I reached out to Kellam Mechanical to ask if they service Kohler generators. After checking, they confirmed that they did and scheduled a technician to come out. Unfortunately, on the day of service, I received a voicemail from the technician saying they actually don't service Kohler generators. This was frustrating, especially after spending about 30-45 minutes setting up the appointment. That said, their customer service was excellent...they apologized multiple times and issued a refund when I called back to explain the situation. I appreciate the professionalism and how they handled the mistake. My suggestion: it would be really helpful if Kellam clearly listed the generator brands they service on their website or confirmed more thoroughly during scheduling. That way, miscommunications like this can be avoided in the future. read more

Definitely recommend getting multiple estimates prior to their consistently 20 to 30% higher than the local service providers. They have been around for a while and they are larger so I want bigger jobs. Their follow up service and warranty service is a little better. They are using some type of screw screwed up new scheduling service, which does not take into consideration the customers Scheduling needs or provide necessary communication prior to during or after the service it's a real struggle to make sure that technicians can make it out when it's convenient for you because of this read more

During my Spring Tune Up it was recommended I have the duct work cleaned. So I scheduled an appointment for 2 June 26. That is when all the reason I get so frustrated with Kellam came rushing back. I called AT 10:30 AM to find out when the technician was coming out. Service Desk said 11. At 12:00 PM get a call he is on the way. Technican arrived at 2:30PM. He had been at a job in Smithfield and then had to drive to me in VA Beach (brilliant Kellam). Now the work. Cleaned the grates and vacummed out the duct work. Did not clean the air intakes or go into the attic to clean the system. Was done in about 2 1/2 hours. I paid over $1300 for this? Also had a work order to put a surge protector on my HAVC system on the same day. Call again around 3:00PM to ask when I can expect that technician. Suprise, he is running late and they will have to dispatch someone else. I never got any updates from Kellam on this. It was me constantly calling them. This technician shows up spends about 30 minutes for the job and charges me $350. Too say I feel ripped off is an understatement. Sadly this is the norm for service calls with Kellam. I think they over book and wait for you to call them before they do anything. Also during spring/fall tunes they do try to up sell telling you HVAC system is about to die. read more

My wife and I were loyal, satisfied, and happy Kellam Mechanical customers going back to 2019 when they upgraded our existing HVAC system and replaced our water heater. At that time, we purchased and maintained a Kellam Mechanical maintenance agreement for our HVAC system that included periodic inspections of our heating and cooling systems. And we had Kellam perform service work on our plumbing system up through 2024. However, we had some unfortunate experiences with Kellam Mechanical this year (2025) in three categories. All of which came as a total surprise and frustrating disappointment. Kellam Mechanical has gone from a warm and friendly, small office staff, family-owned business, customer-comes-first, with reasonable pricing, to a cold, formal, all-business, large office staff, customer-take-it-or leave-it, overly expensive experience. However, my wife and did not experience any change regarding the Kellam Mechanical technicians. Each of these persons was courteous, knowledgeable, and very professional. I hope the following information might be helpful to others moving forward, which is similar to other recent reviews regarding Kellum Mechanical. A. (June 2025) Plumbing - replace a front hose spigot. In 2023 received a quote for this work in an amount of around $320. I was not able to proceed with this work until June of this year (2025). Just prior to the plumber proceeding to do the work he showed me an updated quote in an amount around $708 (2.2 x the original quoted amount), I was floored! The plumber told me back in August of 2024, Kellam was sold to another company. I called the Kellam office and spoke to the GM where I complained about this exorbitant pricing. I was given a customer discount, reducing the price to around $607 (1.9 x the original quoted amount). Although this price was still very high, I elected to bite the bullet and proceed with the work since my laundry room was already taken apart. B. (July 2025) HVAC - cooling inspection. We had a cooling inspection as part of our maintenance agreement scheduled for June 11, 2025. On the day of the inspection, I received a call from a Kellam Mechanical dispatcher saying they had to reschedule this appointment. And it had to be pushed back three (3) weeks to July 2, 2025. This was a huge inconvenience as my wife and I had to reschedule our family vacation to accommodate this new date! Then, I received a text the morning of July 1, 2025, telling me Kellam could not make that date and I would have to reschedule once again. I called the Kellam office, but was told all customer service representatives were busy and someone would have to call me back. I received a call back in the afternoon from a dispatcher, and I told him my wife and I had to reschedule a family vacation for the July 1, 2025 date. And we have a loyal Kellam Customer for the past 4 and 1/2 years and never had an issue like this! The dispatcher told me Kellam has over 100 service calls, and he was not sure Kellam could even come back for a cooling inspection, due to 100 service calls and a lack of available technicians. I responded that if this was the case, my wife and I had no other option but to cancel my maintenance agreement and request a refund for this service. The dispatcher agreed to this refund. I called the Kellam Mechanical office back the following day on July 2, asking to speak with the previous maintenance coordinator. The receptionist explained that person no longer worked at Kellam Mechanical. When I inquired about the status of the maintenance agreement refund, the receptionist told me there would be no refund and that we had to reschedule the cooling inspection yet again. I tried to tell her this was not the agreement yesterday. I was told a refund would be issued to me and my wife for having to cancel our maintenance membership. The receptionist argued with me about this issue and would not listen to what I was trying to explain. C. (July 2025) HVAC - Maintenance Membership. The receptionist finally transferred me over to someone in Kellam Member Services, who told me my wife and I were not entitled to any refund. She said the only options would be to cancel this membership and forfeit our remaining HVAC heating inspection. Or, reschedule the inspection. I elected to reschedule the inspection yet again for July 15, 2025 and was told "...although appointments are scheduled, there is no guarantee that a Kellam technician will actually make an appointment..." After some follow-up email correspondence with the Kellam Member Services representative, I received a response with a revised option, "...to cancel the upcoming appointment and prefer a partial refund ($126), due to the recent rescheduling inconveniences." I elected to take the partial refund, and Kellam Mechanical canceled our HVAC maintenance membership. I received the refund check the following month. read more

After a ridiculous effort to upsell me to agree to buy their service plan, when I said no she finally said OK we'll be there today between 10 and 12. Around 11 Ish I got a text message saying they weren't going to be able to make it after all. KELLAM HOME SERVICES I enrolled with Kellam's monthly contract for periodic inspections of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Today's appointment was made weeks ago, and I was told to be home from 8-5. Fine. I cancelled work and adjusted other scheduled appointments to be home. Guess what? Just got a text a few minutes ago cancelling today's appointment. I called to express my frustration and was hung up on by the phone attendant. She screamed: "Go yell at someone else," and slammed the phone on me. Fine. No more future appointments for Kellam to break, because I just cancelled my contract. I've never experienced such rude and unprofessional treatment. Avoid Kellam; find someone who respects you, honors your time, keeps their appointments, and exhibits human courtesy. read more

Funny how they've maintained it and it's been fine but now all of a sudden it needs a ton of stuff for a 6 yr old unit that's been properly maintained twice a year since brand new. Both my husband and I did research on AC and Heating Companies in our area. After looking at all of them. We had a couple that we liked and then spoke to each. I have to say KELLAM for the win. Customer service is 5 star. From the initial contact to the service call. They ask a lot of questions prior to them getting to your house. Making it a very time efficient visit. They really make you feel like you are top on the list. 2010 we had them replace our condenser and blower in our attic. They are very professional and we both thought they really upgraded everything involved. They did an A+ job. Recently this year 2022 we had them come out and do a check up because we felt that our house was a bit warm due to 100F outside. They came out on a day and time that is convenient for us and as always 5 star customer service. It was a rainy day and as he came in the house to check the inside he put his booties on to keep our house clean. He spent time really looking at everything. I felt like he really spent time and tested everything. They are also coming back just to make sure that the item that they fixed is working properly. This is a courtesy call. They care about the work that they do. So for 12 years we have been very happy with our service. We had called another company and they said they could not come out for 2 weeks. With 100 degree weather we did not think that was a good first contact. I will not mention the other businesses. Only want to say KELLAM is courteous efficient and great quality. When they were a locally owned company, Kellam Mechanical was very good. Now that they have been purchased by an out of state outfit, they are very very bad. This year they canceled five appointments for air conditioning annual service even though I booked earlier. During the period of time between the first and the last cancellation, my system experienced a problem that cost more than $4,000 in labor parts and Freon. Had they done the inspection when scheduled or even the first or second reschedule, this would have been avoided. Save yourself the trouble and pick a company that can deliver. read more

I had a commercial HVAC system installed a little over two years ago, both upstairs and downstairs inside and out. I have had more problems with this system than I ever had with the old one. Service in the past has been great, especially when the techs are experienced. The last visit was pretty expensive but then again the young technician dedicated a lot of time troubleshooting. The end result was a working system. The thing that shocked me was the problem turned out to be wiring. I never go up there. Nobody ever goes up there. The work quality from the repair groups are very good and they are always friendly. The install teams was ok. I do know one thing for certain that I made a big mistake by having dehumidifiers installed . I will say on the plus side and it actually means a lot to me, when mistakes made, resulting in damage, they did send professionals out to repaint and or repair what needed to be fixed. I found out that as a standard practice, Kellam Mechanical staff will hang up on you when you have a complaint. Kellam Mechanical double billed me on a plumbing job which should have been an easy fix. I told the plumber, who said he called and had it fixed. He also told me not to call so that it would not affect my credit card, or words to that affect. It was not fixed so I called the next week. Someone hung up on me and I did not appreciate that. I finally talked to a manager who said they fixed the double billing including the "membership" that apparently was also double billed. I did not request or authorize any "membership" and told him that. Apparently the plumber was feeling generous with my credit card. There was not even a line item for that "membership." It was hidden in the repair to the best of my knowledge. I got refunded for the membership that I did not ask for and at that point I asked that my credit card information be removed from their billing system. Sad that it escalated to that point but in the process of calling back and confirming that the cards had been removed, Kellam Mechanical staff hung up on me two more times. Furthermore, Kellam Mechanical claimed that I signed and paid for a "membership" at the initial appointment. Again, I was not told of, nor did I approve of any "membership" with Kellam Mechanical. And of all the times they hung up on me, why didn't they mention that when I called? If they had asked me at the initial appointment I would have said "no." They can paint it however they want but that was an unapproved addition. Regarding another review, I find it odd that the president (owner) spends time countering the customer on situations where this would not happen if that owner spent more time training staff not to be so rude and unethical. It simply shows that this behavior will continue to happen to customers. Staff will continue to hang up on customers if there is an issue, and some may be signed up for a "membership" that they do not know about. It doesn't matter how they snuck that charge on me but the bottom line is I found out about that "membership" when it got double charged with the maintenance charge. If what the owner is claiming is true, that would mean that I got double charged on the initial appointment and then got double charged on the day that they replaced the pipes. I don't think that is true, I believe I got double charged on both items on the same day. Again, I only found out about the charge because of an error on Kellam Mechanical's part. On a sidebar, if you are dealing with a sketchy company and will no longer use them, have your information removed in case their website gets compromised. Other than that I am very disappointed with that company because I used to be a long time customer with their HVAC department. Hanging up on customers who are having issues with their services tells a lot about any company. Additionally, reading the replies by "Owner" (of Kellam Mechanical) to some of the negative reviews tells a story about how Kellam Mechanical operates. Be warned that I have seen posted on a few reviews that Kellam Mechanical has changed ownership. At this point, as a former customer, I would recommend staying away from that company. I tried to send an email to the president of Kellam Mechanical but it did not go through. I now believe it is because of the ownership change since I got an auto reply from the server saying that the email may not exist. read more

I signed up for the yearly maintenance service, the technician finally showed after 2 cancelled appointments, after taking my systems apart, the tech stated that the systems looked good but recommended a new capacitor, i authorized the job, 2 days later my compressor just happened to sieze up after their repair, they were quick to point out that it couldnt have been their work. I ordered a new system and it was installed, 4 months later the new unit completely froze over and my electric bill was almost a thousand dollars. Thinking that a reputable company would come out and fix their system expecially since i am a priority customer with a service agreement, i made an appointment online for monday morning, monday afternoon i asked for an update and was told the tech would contact me, an hour later the appointment was moved to tuesday without any input. this company obviously is just a front to sell new systems and has no intentions of servicing their installed products read more
