I wanted to take a moment to share some honest feedback about a recent service visit to my home. My intention isn't to complain, but to express how the experience felt from a homeowner's point of view -- especially in a stressful situation with a non-working AC and a newborn in the house. When I booked the appointment, I was told there would be an $89 diagnostic fee, which I completely understood. But once the technician arrived and saw that the line was frozen, I was told I'd need to pay an additional $229 to thaw the system before any diagnosis could be made. This caught me off guard, as I didn't expect such a significant extra charge for something that seemed like a necessary part of troubleshooting. After the line was thawed, I hoped for a clearer answer, but the technician told me: * He couldn't say how much refrigerant I needed * He had only 1 lb of R-22 * He would need to leave and return, which would cost another $175 for travel time, plus $280 per pound of R-22 * Alternatively, he offered to fill the system with an alternative refrigerant, and kindly noted that if we replaced the unit later, we wouldn't be charged for it * Lastly, I was given a $10,000 replacement quote and was asked to leave a deposit if I wanted to move forward I respect that the technician came out and did his part, but I walked away feeling like I had paid over $300 and was still left without a real solution -- only an expensive replacement quote or the promise of more charges if I wanted to continue. I'm not trying to question anyone's integrity. But as a customer, I left the visit feeling overwhelmed and unsure if this was truly the best approach for someone in my situation. I understand that older units and R-22 systems are tough, but I think more transparency upfront -- especially about extra charges -- would've made a big difference. I recently had David Johnson from CLIMATEMAKERS of VA come out to check a furnace ignition issue. I can't say how much appreciative I was of his service. I stood by and he explained everything he was checking to verify my system was functioning properly. My sensor ended up having carbon deposits on it and the gas pressure was low. He made sure that the adjustments were correct and got my system working properly. I was very impressed with his knowledge and not trying to shot gun a fix. Very sorry I called them to start with, blew out my condesation line, had a bit of freon added at their suggestion, signed with for yearly seasonal checkup. 800.00 + I guess wasn't enough. System never had a problem, but less than 2 weeks after their visit, had no cooling...called them back...now I had to pay 350+ to find out their is a leak in freon line.....no problem before their visit. They were Professional great manors and cared for the home like it was there own. We had a gentleman come out at first from the company Mike Hayes and I knew when I met him this was the company. I've been using Climate Makers for the past few years now for my annual service for both heating and cooling systems. I first found out about them shortly after purchasing my house. I've seen commercials for a number of years, but never really paid any attention to it. Since I had just purchased the house at the time, I wanted to get everything fully checked out within that first year or so. The staff were very friendly on that first call. This would be my first experience with any service company, and they did not disappoint. My most recent service was about a week ago. The service adviser that came out was Yvonne. She was absolutely great to work with. She was very thorough when checking everything out. She has a great personality and made the experience enjoyable. Sometimes, you get service technicians that come out and have no personality. They just want to come in, get it done. and get out. Yvonne is definitely not that way. She kept us informed as she went along checking everything out. Once everything was checked out and came up with no issues, she got the rebate form filled out for us so that the rebate can be received from Dominion. It didn't cost anything at that time of the visit since it was already covered under an existing service contract. If you are looking for HVAC services, I highly recommend them. Be sure to ask for Yvonne as well as your technician when you schedule. read more

Over a week ago we had concerns of Excessive frost/ice build up on the heat pump, possible coolant leak...called one company and put on a waitlist, a week to the day I called them back and was told still #49 on their list as they were backed up. I called another company today told me the earliest they can come out was next Friday and had high diagnostic fees and labor rate... Decided to look on Angie's list, within 10 seconds of me hitting submit I had a phone call from climate makers... Extremely nice, professional, within two hours of the initial phone call, I had a very knowledgeable friendly technician at the house, Not to mention extremely dog friendly as I have one ginormous dog and one not so much..... she went out of her way to explain everything she was doing and appreciated her work and Of course friendliness to our dogs. Just recently my husband and I decided to upgrade our air conditioner unit and our furnace unit. My husband asked me if I knew what company would be the best for this. I mentioned to him that Climatemakers LTD has serviced our older unit for several years and I thought they would be a great choice since their staffing company and technicians are top of the line in the Hampton Roads area. I have had a twice yearly inspection contract with Climatemakers for many years. Recently I had to purchase a new unit. I did not purchase it from Climatemakers as it was over three thousand more than I paid with another company. My contract was for $230.00 for the two inspections a year. Since I had to purchase a new unit, I had only had the fall inspection done and did not need the spring inspection since it was a new unit. I asked to be refunded $115.00 for not having to have my new unit inspected and was told it was non-refundable. I was NEVER told my money could not be refunded if I didn't need the inspection otherwise I would have just paid for it as it was needed, and never had a contract. Maybe I'm wrong, but that doesn't seem right to me. I live on a fixed income so $115.00 means something to me. read more

Today, I had Climate Makers come out and do a preventative maintenance service on my heat pump. The technician that came out was Tim. Tim was very professional as well as courteous. I admit that in the past I have used cheaper companies. those other companies don't even come close to performing the quality of work that climate makers does I will NEVER EVER use any other heating and air company to service my units. read more

HVAC maintenance $210.00 Two months before, two prior maintenance visits performed. One for HVAC and one for the generator. No mention of battery needing to be changed. Request for service 4 days prior. Tech person called within the hour. On scheduled date, received a call to reschedule for an additional 2 days. Compromised on an additional day to wait. Asked to receive a price quote for the battery. When the tech person arrived a day later - asked, if I received a price quote. Tech person called in to get one (?). For a myriad of reasons - felt restricted to paying the "up charge" for the battery. Service invoice is handwritten. Placed a call to the VP. Called within the hour and did recall the installation of the generator. Expressed my concerns with the "unknowns" given to the me as the customer when handling a service call for scheduling and not receiving a price quote for a battery. Acknowledged that a quote on a battery should have been given and rescheduling occurs. All maintenance service should be listed on the website and it is not. Customer service is not able to answer questions when they cannot look it up. read more

I called Climatemakers in to look at my AC system after having another HVAC repair company send technicians, who failed to repair it, on two previous occasions. The problem started when my system was running but not cooling. The first service call (with the other company) resulted in replacement of parts in the exterior unit for several hundred dollars. This technician also said either the exterior control panel was failing or the compressor was, but he could not tell me which. Instead he pushed hard for me to purchase their service package and kept telling me that "these old systems" have a lot of problems. A week later the system failed in the same manner, running but not cooling. The second technician reset the exterior control panel and said either the control panel was failing or the compressor was failing but they could not tell me which. That we would just have to wait and see what happened next. Neither of these two technicians bothered to look at the unit in the attic. I asked both if they needed to see it and was told no. Three days later my system failed completely, no power to the thermostat and nothing was running. I called the original company back and was told they couldn't guarantee a technician for three days. At this point I called Climatemakers and got an appointment of the same day. Mark is the technician who came to repair my system. The first thing Mark did, after looking at the thermostat, was go in to the attic to look at that unit. Mark soon had my system back up and running. There was a burned fuse in the upstairs unit and the exterior control panel had been wired incorrectly. Mark was very knowledgeable about my system and was able to explain everything that was wrong and why. He said while my system was older, it shouldn't have any major issues in the near future. My system has been running smoothly since Mark's visit. I will happily recommend Climatemakers to others. read more

I have used Climatemakers for the past year for annual service of my dual zone HVAC systems. I recently had to call them back after routine service because of an unusual sound from the upper lever system. The sound happened to be coming from the new filters I had replaced that evening after the service. So I was charged an additional service call fee to come out and determine it was the filters, which took less than 20 minutes. I had already paid in advance the annual fee of $450 for service of both systems. I think a company with really good customer service would not nickel and dime their customers of something like this. read more

I feel I have really been dooped by this company. I had no heat and called them to come and out check things out I have been with this company since 2003, when they put in a new heating and ac unit and duct work. I have an annual service contract with them for $210.00 a yr. for them to come out in the spring and fall and check my unit. They charged my a $89.00 diagnostic charge to come out and tell me what was wrong with the unit. Found it was the exhaust motor that would cost $100.00 plus $20.00 shipping. Was not told the $89.00 would not be applied to the bill for repairs. When the tech returned to replace the motor, it took him30 mins to replace it, as I timed him, and they he proceeded to do my maint. check. He was here for approximately 2 hrs. My bill was $655.00. I was unaware they charge $175.00 for labor! After some checking around with other contractors, I found this charge is outrageous!! I am an elderly, widow lady and feel I have really been taken advantage of. I will NEVER use them or recommend them again. BEWARE!!!!! read more
