If I were to place a bet regarding Kelly's, I'd go with a Trifecta: great food, great space, great owners and staff. The space is brightly lit, welcoming, and comfortable without being excessive, and I liked how they repurposed the decor of the building. The food is rich; my monkey bread croissant was just so buttery, and the cranberry-walnut scone puts to an end the concept of a dry scone. Now I need to come back for a brunch meal to try their BALT (because bacon, and because avocado). Everyone behind the counter was just so friendly and helpful, about as warm as the bright sunshine coming through all those large east-facing windows. After any morning rush, the space is pleasant and large enough for folks to sit inside to enjoy food and drink, but there's also a number of tables for dining outside in warmer weather. My only wish is that they had a jumbo sized coffee available to go with the confections, because it's very tempting to buy and eat more than one at a time, and just one coffee won't do. read more

We came to Kelly's shortly after it opened and fell in love with the owners, staff, and especially the food!! These guys know what they are doing. We were dropping off our son at The Culinary Institute of America and returned to get another dose of goodness and their warm hospitality. This summer we were in Maine and before heading back home to Florida, we planned a road trip to include a stop at Kelly's. We actually called a couple of days ahead to reserve our favorites. We had lunch there and then took a bunch of pastries to go. Sooo delicious! Lunch included the Grilled Cheese, B.A.L.T, Mushroom Toast, and Chia Bowl, on location at the beautiful bakery and took every Cookie flavor, Chocolate Brioche, Lemon and Earl Grey Pastry, Banana Bread and one of their delicious scones for the road. We will be returning to drop our son off this fall and a trip to Kelly's will be a top priority! read more

A true slice of NYC Gentrification in Poughkeepsie. The bakery is situated right at the corner of an extremely overpriced "luxury" apartment building designed to push out the residents living across the street. You get a real NYC experience here. Staff is rude. Menu items are overcomplicated, overpriced, and devoid of flavor. Each bakery item has no less than three specialty ingredients that uniquely come together to cancel each other out. For example, the blueberry green tea yogurt muffins taste like neither blueberry, green tea, nor yogurt. Extremely bland. It was perfectly baked though. Same deal with the cookies. Perfectly baked, with a perfect texture, but devoid of flavor. You can tell there's no passion put into it. All buzzwords designed to get social media attraction rather than a quality product. Even the latte we sampled was a let-down. It'd actually be cheaper to get one from Starbucks. And it would've been better! If you're an NYC transplant looking for a taste of home, here is your spot. But if you're a local who wants a good loaf of bread or a decent pastry, you already know there are much better places (namely Adam's)! read more

Exceptional all around - pastries are some of the best I've had anywhere (including France). Food is prepared to perfection (my husband is a chef and he said the same thing). Egg sandwiches are made to order, delicious and use fresh ingredients, Shakshuka literally could not have been prepared better. Flavors were well balanced, perfect amount of salt, and not too acidic despite the tomato base.) Some pastries are more inventive with the ingredient combinations and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well they're executed despite my doubts. Stand outs: green tea blueberry muffin - light and fluffy, flavorful and not too sweet. Tried it based on the owners recommendation and loved it Everything bagel croissant - Also tried based on their Rec and loved. Savory and amazing in the center Croissants - excellent Fig and chocolate bread - moist, perfect amount of subtle sweetness - amazing. I didn't think I'd like this but I'm obsessed Pumpkin ginger: very good texture but didn't love (I usually like these 2 things so I'd give it another try) Coffee, lattes and tea are also excellent. Honey lavender latte was good but I think the regular coffee and espresso are my favorite This place is a refreshing and welcomed addition to Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley. (I get not wanting a city to lose its charm, but Darren - one of the owners - is actually local so I love that he brought this dream to life here!). It brings NYC chic in an approachable way and most importantly amazing food Ambiance is comfortable, bright and chic without being pretentious. Design belongs on the cover of a magazine. The owners and staff are all over the top generous and friendly. My husband and I have been there a few times since they opened and the staff and owners have gone above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. Everything I ate here was amazing!!! The chocolate babka muffin, egg sandwich, croissant and coffee all blew me away. This new bakery/café has a trendy NYC feel for sure, EXCEPT I thought all the staff were friendly and patient...not always found in the big apple! Also, while I do respect the review mentioning gentrification, Kelly's shouldn't be the one to point fingers at as far as I can tell. They simply chose to be part of a new housing/commercial development and I won't write them off just due to that. These are artisanal baked goods and food that is priced fairly and should be supported much more than corporate America taking over our small towns/cities! This is also an independent owner/baker trying to make a living during an extremely difficult time, so please consider that when reviewing too. Like I said previously, I was impressed with all the food and drinks and will definitely be returning. I will happily spend an extra dollar or two more if I know it's going to an actual person and not some faceless company like Starbuck's or Panera. The employees were all pleasant and the owner even came out and personally checked on us, which is the complete opposite of the bad review(s) on here. We were in Hyde Park for a wedding. We were visiting from California. Thank God we found Kelly's. It was the bright spot of both mornings in the area. Our monkey bread, warm focaccia, gluten free avocado toast with egg on top, the breakfast sandwich with Gruyère and lox avocado toast, were all ten out of ten in terms of flavor and freshness. Our lattes, Vietnamese ice coffee and English breakfast teas were perfectly made. We left no stone unturned. Darrin was the best host. read more

Kevin, Darren, and the team at Kelly's have truly created something amazing. They are serving up bread and baked goods as they aught to be. Trust me, we should know - we ordered almost the whole menu! The scones are moist, the cookies are divine, the muffins are scrumptious, the bread is fluffy and full of flavor, and the babka.... well you just have to try the babka. If you are in Poughkeepsie, driving past, or passing anywhere somewhat near Kelly's, you absolutely have to stop in. These treats have that "save a bad day, stop an argument in its tracks, tell your friends and neighbors" type of flavor and I will absolutely be coming back soon. read more

I wasn't going to write a review after my experience, but then I saw the other reviews about terrible customer service. Also, Kelly's instagram posted their response to a 1 star review and when I saw it, I thought the review sounded quite like what I experienced. I was seated at a 2 person table after ordering a sandwich and a latte. I had my laptop out to answer some work emails as I had seen handfuls of other people sitting with their laptops out doing work too. Some people were even taking calls. So, I hopped on a zoom for work thinking nothing of it. A few minutes into my call, the male waiter came over to me and got my attention by waving his hand. I muted myself on zoom and took my airpods out. He said, "Please feel free to say no, but do you mind moving to the barstools so I can push your table with another table to seat a family of 4?" I had no problem with this and said, "Sure, I'll be done with this work call in 10 minutes and then I'll move." He thanked me and left. There was nothing he said that indicated that I was being forced to move or that it was time sensitive. Not only 2 minutes later did he come back and proceeded to move the tables into one table while I was on my call! This interrupted my call and shifted my belongings. The family of 4 then came and stood next to me (staring and arms crossed) while I was on my call. At this point, I was very confused and taken back since the couch area across the room was completely open and since I had kindly told him I needed 10 minutes. The owner's husband then came over and waved his hand behind my laptop to get my attention and motioned to me to take my airpod out. He asked if I was on a call to which I responded, "Yes, I'm on a work call and I'm almost done". Not even another 2 minutes later did he come back and interrupted me a 4th time to tell me I needed to leave because of the 90 minute dining limit. He spoke aggressively and demeaning. I was so surprised because I had ordered lunch and a latte and got water and there were other diners that were there much longer than I had been (I was there from about 10:45 to 12:30 at that point). Other diners were on their laptops and phones when I sat down earlier and not once did I see the owner's tell them they had to leave. I was interrupted rudely and the owner's husband was extremely inconsiderate (I was on a work call which I had voiced 4 times!!!) My call ended and I packed my things and left immediately and I have not been back since. I was extremely angry with how I (a loyal paying customer who had went to Kelly's multiple times that week) had been treated. I voiced my opinions about their rude service to friends and family and they had told me their awful experiences as well ranging from the owner's husband being cold and rude to them and him being extremely impatient while taking your order. Kelly's has the potential to be an amazing coffee shop and bakery in POK. But, after reading other reviews of the bad experiences, I unfortunately think they might be sabotaging their own business with their lack of care for customers and their experience. I suggest Kelly's pushes their ego aside (which was on display when they posted the 1 star review on their instagram and defensively responded to comments that agreed with the review) and gets down to fixing these issues! read more

No vegan food options except avocado toast. Cool atmosphere. Clean. My husband dislikes his breakfast bun too much cinnamon not enough bun. My coffee cake was delish with a very almond flavor and nice struesel on it. They need to fix their queue. The line winds down the ramp outside, the dining room, not enough signs telling what the days 3 coffee cakes, so every customer has to ask. This holds up the line a lot! My husband got a hot coffee which was bad. I got I Ed , also not good. Maybe the espresso products are better? read more

Met Kelly and her dads in Beacon a few weeks ago and heard about their bakery cafe. Just stopped in and had butternut squash on GF toast with vegan cheese and a cookie that was vegan, GF and delicious. Steve had pumpkin lemon scone and Cheese and ham croissant he said were delicious. Great place for vegans and an not vegans. And a beautiful spot with awesome vibes. We will definitely stop in again! I've never been somewhere where they make it so evident that they are just out for business. I was asked if I could "empty out my seating space if I wasn't going to buy something else" which I thought was pretty rude to ask a customer. Typically bakeries/coffee shops with open seating should note that some clients might want to study/read while enjoying their coffee. I understand their is limited seating due to space but that should not come at the expense of those who want to study/read in the space after being a paying customer. Bummer that this isn't your typically coffee shop that welcomes people hanging out. I will be sticking with The Crafted Kup from now on. read more

I was excited to hear about Kelly's Bakery opening in the area. Without a good bakery close by, I thought this was going to be a great addition. I've gone there a few times now. I am a big proponent in the whole experience when visiting any business, with customer service being just as important as the product. I've been disappointed each time with the lack of greeting and general customer service. Who doesn't greet their customers with a friendly hello or good morning?! Didn't receive any kind of departure "have a nice day" either. I asked if they had bagels, which they don't and that's fine, however, it would've been a nice gesture if I was told they make breakfast sandwiches. Just a tip; friendliness goes a long way. Just tried Kelly's Bakery and was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and service. Took my elderly mom there without knowing they had just closed. As we turned to leave, they kindly reopened the door and offered us what was still available. We got the most delicious kale and cheddar scones, iced coffee, and lemonade to go. The worker who held the door open for us then offered his arm and walked my mom slowly down the ramp and to our car, while chatting with her about shared fond memories of growing up in the area. Lovely bakery and cafe. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch today and were so pleased with our experience! From the moment we stepped in the staff was warm and welcoming. The line moved quickly and although it was very busy, we were able to have indoor seating. I had the shakshuka with feta. I've never had this dish before and love trying new things. It was perfect for what I was looking for. All ingredients tasted so fresh! My daughter had the BALT on sourdough with salmon swapped for bacon. It was delicious! I had been hearing the buzz about Kelly's for quite some time but was hesitant because of the line that's usually out the door. Now I know why! There baked goods never disappoint some of our favorites are the kale and cheddar scone, Croissants and the sourdough olive loaf just to name a few!
