Former employee and speaking to former manager

Management fires anyone, won't be clear, and is haphazardly ran by the manager and her cohort up front.

This is the front page of their menu. Photo taken September 11, 2021.

This Kelly's Tavern is located in the Strawbridge Shopping Center near the corner of London Bridge Rd. and General Booth Blvd. Inside the shopping center, it is located next to the Regal Cinemas movie theatre. My visit here was on September 11, 2021. With this place being right next to the movie theatre, parking can be hit or miss depending on the time you come to the area. In this case, parking was not an issue at that time. I had heard some good things about the place, so that's why it was decided to give this place a try. This will likely be my only visit unless things change in the future. When coming in, the place was pretty much empty. The guy from the bar saw us come in and told us we could sit wherever we wanted to. He came over with the menus and asked us what we wanted to drink while looking over the menu. To start with, my mom and I did go with the Bavarian Pretzel appetizer. A few minutes later we were ready to order. I ended up going with the Grande Nachos since they were on special that day. My mom went with the Loaded Baked Potato Soup (bowl). During this time, we had the Bavarian Pretzel, which was really good with the beer cheese sauce. After roughly five to ten minutes, our orders came to the table. On the surface, everything looked really good. That would change after starting to eat. For the Grande Nachos, everything was soggy, even the chips. The toppings that were on it too didn't taste fresh either and tasted more like they came from cans. Now, onto the baked potato soup. My mom said the soup was bland and probably one of the worst baked potato soups she has had. It didn't even include all of the stuff that was supposed to be on it as well, such as bacon, scallions and cheese. There was some cheese in it, but it was just a little bit of shredded cheese on top. We never got a chance to address the issues as the server didn't come back until we were ready to get out of there. He pretty much remained behind the bar with the few patrons there at the bar. Overall, this was not a really good experience, and would not be in a rush to come back. The food didn't seem fresh except for the Bavarian Pretzel and the beer cheese dip that came with it. The Bavarian Pretzel is what saved it from getting a 1 star rating. Service was lackluster at best. There are plenty of other locations in the area that you can go to if you're looking for bar food. I would check out those alternative places instead.

The food was delicious. The atmosphere was nice and the waitress was friendly and on top of her job.

Fish & Chips with battered fries - totally recommend this dish.

Ok, so maybe it's a 3.5 for me. First time coming to this location and from what I gather it used to be smoker friendly and now it's not... Cool. Came in to kill some time before our movie and the young lady at the host stand even opened the door for us when she saw us walking up. Awesome. She said we can pick wherever we wanted to sit so we chose the first booth by the door. Our waitress was okay. She wasnt too confident in her answers when we asked questions but she came thru each time. I really, really enjoyed the fish and chips. I would def come back for those. Three huge pieces of fish perfectly battered and crispy, piping hot with each bite on top of battered fries, which actually the waitress suggested / recommended so kudos to her for that!! Fiance's (3) fish tacos he said were delicious and he killed those in no time! Seems like a fun place to come during the evening for drinks, apps, and music so I'm inclined to return. Very casual and relaxed with outside seating and corn hole and pool tables as well.

You would never suspect the great atmosphere of this venue from the location. But the charm of the place really isn't the story. This is the kind of place that offers a gastro pub menu and they do not disappoint with a familiar yet unique menu offering some truly great dishes and perhaps the best burgers in VB. Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

Stopped by for a burger and a beer to drown in my solitude. Had great service. Prompt, attentive and genuine. Only downside was some pretentious guy named Jeff kept whining about the hostess and the service being "special needs" because he couldn't get his group prompt service under 15 minutes on a special holiday. If it wasn't for some derogative guy whining off the bell about how the service wasn't up to par every couple minutes I'd have enjoyed what would've been quite a depressing day for me. Other than that, burger was damn heavenly. Beer was cold and good. Service was grand. Some people just ruin it for others. Great spot, great burger, good beer and good folks. B.W.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

I love corned Beef & Cabbage. Theirs was perfect. Served with whipped potatoes and whole carrots. I asked our server if the potatoes could be substituted for a double order of cabbage the next time and she said she was sure it could but may have a little extra charge. My Friend chose Jagerschnitzel. A German dish consisting of hand-flattened, fried pork loin, topped with onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad and green beans. She seemed pleased with her choice. Park Lane gives a welcoming vibe that makes me think of the old TV show Cheers. The kind of place that makes you feel like everyone knows your name. Sit at the bar, a high top table near the bar and watch The Big Game or take a seat on the other end of the restaurant and have a Family dinner or maybe a table for two. One piece of advice: arrive a little before Happy Hour begins at 3:00 p.m. If you wait until then, you'll likely find yourself several people deep in line. Don't let that discourage you. Embrace it, because once you're seated you'll quickly discover that the wait was well worth it. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices--especially during Happy Hour--are outstanding. The Atlantic specializes in oysters, and their Happy Hour runs daily from 3:00-6:00 p.m., including weekends. We began with a Chopped Caesar Salad ($9). Every ingredient was crisp, fresh, and flavorful--a simple dish executed exactly as it should be. Next came the oysters: a dozen Rockefeller and a dozen Pacific. The Rockefeller oysters were everything you would expect from this classic preparation--rich, savory, and baked beautifully. The Pacific oysters, however, completely stole the show. Each oyster was topped with a delicious combination of chorizo sausage, pepper jack cheese, and seasonings before being baked to perfection. They were bold, flavorful, and easily my favorite item of the afternoon. I also ordered the Double Stack Cheeseburger ($7), and what a terrific value. The burger arrived piping hot, loaded with melted cheese, and accompanied by a generous serving of crispy fries. It's hard to imagine finding a better burger at that price anywhere along the Oceanfront. My wife ordered the pork, shrimp, and kimchi dumplings served with a chili crunch and ponzu sauce that tied the entire dish together beautifully. She jokingly threatened to drink the remaining sauce after finishing the dumplings (she didn't), but she did convince me to dip one of my fries into it. She was absolutely right--it was fantastic. In fact, I now regret turning down the dumpling she generously offered me. Part of the fun of dining here is watching Shuck-Master Slim work. He's not only remarkably skilled but entertaining as well, adding a little personality to an already enjoyable experience. From the fresh seafood to the outstanding value and friendly atmosphere, this was another memorable visit to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. If you haven't been to The Atlantic on Pacific, I highly recommend adding it to your list. You'll be glad you did, and you can rest assured that you're helping support one of our outstanding local restaurants.
