The third try is a charm This Ace Hardware was the last place I visited in search of some accessories for my fireplace. *I'm surprised this was the only place that had the supplies that I needed.* Since I struck out at two other places, I was going to order the things online. Fortunately, this Ace location was en route to another destination, and I decided to give it one last shot. Upon entering the store, an associate immediately asked me if he could help me find something. I guess that I looked very confused while entering the store. He pointed me in the right direction to get my things. Also, he came to the area after a few minutes to see if I was found what I was looking for and to remind me that I should make sure that my chimney flue was taken care of. I guess that I was lucky to visit when I did because they had only one fireplace tool set . . . at least on display. While the prices were a bit higher compared to some of the prices that I saw online, they were not that bad. The store is a bit smaller compared to other hardware stores in the area, so it might be useful to call first to inquire if they have what you are looking for. read more

Went to this store today to return a dolly that I purchased 4 days ago never used and I had a Ace Hardware receipt but purchased at a different location and Randy refused to refund my money and told me I had to go back to NC to return the item to the ACE in NC I purchased it from despite the fact I had my receipt. Came off very rude & treated me very poorly like I have not shopped at this ACE for years! Disgusting! read more

This ACE store is tucked away on a side street off Kempsville road. Some signage will direct you there but it's not visible from the road. Plenty of parking and a large building with all the hardware odds and ends you could ever want or need. The mid-day trip I took here for a "j" hook for my porch was easy and breezy. I roamed around after immediately and easily finding the item on an end cap by the entrance looking at the wares. They have paint, cleaning supplies, yard flags, hardware, sponges, tools, you name it. Two staff members greeted me and asked if I needed assistance. It's old school when you pay. No new machine. You have to sign your credit card slip with a pen and they staple your credit receipt to the register slip. Nostalgia! read more

Placed an order for pick up locally and unfortunately did not know this location was mask-less. Of course when I arrived the mask-less clerk could not locate my name on her "spreadsheet". Luckily I had my order number and the confirmation email, gave her the order number and off to the back she went ....but first let me stop and check out a customer who arrived after me. She did finally leave and return with my purchase no box no receipt to even confirm I had picked it up. read more

This store is a joke. The motto "helpful hardware store" is a joke. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! The worst customer service. The worst employees. They are useless and lack general human feelings. Went to my local Ace Hardware to inquire about a grill/smoker and was told that they didn't 'free assembly and delivery' that was listed on the national website. I mentioned that it was on the website and the Ace employee stated that 'they pimp out the stores to get more customers'. I called the national company and they were no help either. My bottom line is this. Go to Hime Depot and get it assembled or delivered for free. And they mean it. read more

Service here is a joke. Staff lacks basic computer skills. Tried renting a U-Haul car dolly to tow a sub-compact with a full size F150. Was told it wasn't a compatible match, even though a real U-Haul dealer said it was but they didn't have any available to rent. This location also refused to honor a sale price on the "Ace Hardware" website saying that they paid more for the item than Ace was listing. read more

ACE is now my new destination for home improvement. Yesterday, I spent 2 hours at Lowe's and Home Depot attempting to find parts needed from some sprinkler system repairs. After finding no parts that would work and very little assistance from the staff, I went to Ace Hardware. As soon as I walked in, Stan asked if he could help. I told him what I was looking to do, and he walked me over to the right parts and gave me some very useful tips in the process. From now on, I'm driving past Home Depot and Lowe's and going to Ace Hardware for all my future home improvement needs. read more

If I could give them a zero I would. We made an online order. I received a confirmation email and a phone call from the store stating that the store received the order and that it is ready to pick up. I had to borrow a truck and take time off work to pick it up. When I got there I was greeted with employees that were confused and frankly did not care. The employees could not find my order and told me to go home. When I returned the truck and got home ACE called me to tell me that they had magically found my order. When I told them what I had to go through to pick it up ACE told me that I would have to take time off work and borrow a truck again. read more

I love the place. So convenient and in a quiet area with little traffic vs the big box stores. A bit more expensive and of course will not have everything but they always ask if I need help which I never do because I visit that store 1-2 times a week and have done so for years. I am very greatful to have a little local hardware store close by. As s matter of fact, I am headed there right now to grab a filter for my furnace. Perhaps some of the negative reviewers need to lighten up a bit or just go to the big box stores. A few less folks in my way as I am seeing what other obscure hardware item I just might need is ok too! I say try again. Perhaps you caught someone that was just having a bad day as we do occasionally. I am also glad they are mask less. Most masks do very little especially when they are not on correctly. The paranoid mask reviewer can wear the mask if it gives you a sense of security. You should be vaccinated so shouldn't you not have to be so uptight. I have natural immunity and won't be getting jabbed by the government. Yes, covid was awful for about 10 days but I sucked it up, and now I am good. No crappy mask for me again. Off to Ace I go!! Ace is no longer the place. Whoever does the stock ordering rarely gets it right. Items that sell frequently are usually out of stock, but other items overflow the shelves. The employees don't know diddle about the items they sell. Back in the day, this was a great little store. Now, the only reason I go there is for the Post Office. read more

Do not rent uhaul from them absolutely horrible company and staff members. I would not even patron their business. They are LIARS & RACIST . Katie the front desk personnel especially! I had the most horrible experience here and they went on to lie to the uhaul area manager about everything ! Still resulting in me being provided a refund for their mistakes . I would not do any business with these people ! When I entered the store I wasn't even acknowledged. The lady Katie attempted to take a customer before me and he told her " ma'am this young lady was here first " she proceeded to tell the customer " I know exactly who she is " and approach me by getting in my face screaming with no mask on ! I asked for a manager spoke with Robert asked for the store owner and for the cameras to be pulled . He stated they don't even have cameras . I contacted uhaul about the additional charges to my account . They stated the store asked could I never come back . But yet Robert and his staff blamed Uhaul to me stating they overcharge customers all the time. I am appalled and disgusted by the way I was treated by these people . It's not about the money it's about the principle ! All customers should treated equally and with respect . read more

Beyond rude, and terrible customer service. I have rarely met more unhelpful, rude employees as I've found at Ace. When I was asking one employee a question about PVC pipe, I apparently used an incorrect term for the material it was made of; he laughed, and actually made a sarcastic comment about how I was an idiot for not knowing the difference between plastic and vinyl. Ace also does not honor the Satisfaction Guaranteed promise on their products. The label clearly states, "If an Ace Private Label product fails to meet your satisfaction, simply return it to the Ace Hardware store where you purchased it for a free replacement." When an item I purchased turned out to be so flimsy it bent the first time I used it, I took it back to the store. They refused to accept it because it had been used, and the employee said they can't accept returns that aren't in like-new condition. It's a catch-22: If the product works, you won't return it; if it fails, you can't return it! There are far better hardware stores than Ace, and I'd rather drive farther to reach them than get insulted or ripped off again. read more

I live four blocks from this store and regret that I swear to never go there again. The service used to be good, but now they have gone to ignoring customers and being outright rude. There is apparently only one employee allowed to speak to customers, the cashier, while the rest talk to each other and to the cashier. I have spent five minutes waiting in line with no one in front of me while they finish a conversation. Today I waited 15 minutes in line to ask a question and then without even acknowledging I was there, the cashier started doing paperwork for another employee. The last three times I have been in this store I left without buying anything. I hate to have to drive to Taylors but will do so from now on. read more

Besides having all that I have needed, this local Ace Hardware has the best gift shop around. I have gotten great telephone service when I called for questions, and when I go into the store the attendents go out of their way to help me find what I need. read more

I've been discovering that Ace really IS the place! And especially with the holiday madness, the special attention they give you is even more appreciated, It's a smaller store than Walmart or the other large discount stores (but plenty of choices for reasonable prices) and you can get in and out without a hassle, and you often don't even need to wait in line! Compare THAT to Walmart- especially around Christmas! A few months before Christmas, I got out of there with 4 things (3 of them I wasn't even sure they would have- like a shower curtain liner), and from pricing them, I paid no more (and in 1-2 instances, less) than at Walmart/ I also spent 1/3 of the energy and 1/6 of the time! Tonight, a week before Christmas, I went there to get additional light bulb replacements for my balcony lights, an anti-creosote log, some fire starters, and a bundle of wood for the fireplace, plus a red bow for decoration, and when I asked a gentleman there for help (his name was Barry), he opened his arms to let me put all my items in them, and I just piled things up and he took them all to the counter! And after paying for them, he took them all out to my car! Very impressed. Will Walmart or the other stores do all that? I think not. So kudos to you, Ace, and thanks a lot, Barry! :) read more
