Came one hour before closing. Idk if it was just by pure coincidence but there was a random rush of customers and you could visibly tell that the workers were all kinda like "wtf" hahaha. They were definitely stressed but they ultimately got everything handled! First time trying kenji's. I got their bacon cheeseburger w furikake fries. The burger was solid, maybe a 3.5/5. Nothing crazy about it. But it hit the spot after a long day of hiking! The furikake fries were nice and fresh, a 4/5. My homegirl also agreed w a 4/5 for her order, as well. She got their standard burger and a side of sunomono.

This place was recommended over other locations because it's the original. Food was tasty enough, but expensive for what you get - Kenji burger ($15), Truffle burger ($15), Old Skool burger ($13), Rainbow Roll ($17), Furakake Fries ($6), snd a beer ($8). I must have been looking at older pictures of the menu, because I thought I was getting a Rainbow Burrito, but when it came out, I thought "this is the smaller sushi burrito ever". It was pretty much a $17 futomaki. Also, I asked for 3 cups of water and it cost $1.50. Unfortunately did not see the small blue sign on the counter that read water is $.50 a cup. There is also a 3% credit card fee. There is one table inside, with a handful of seats for perimeter seating. There are also 3 picnic tables out back, but it was pretty warm with no breeze. We opted to sit out at the front where there was a breeze.

They know how to make burgers! We've been here in the past and wanted our new vacation friends to enjoy a good burger. The young lady behind the counter pleasantly welcomed us. She took the time to explain the menu and offered popular items. Outdoor seating is available when the weather permits. Indoor tables and seating is limited. Often you can sit under cover along the front patio. Unfortunately the front parking lot is small. I don't know what parking options there are. Everyone savored every bite!

Hubby wanted a good burger on our Kauai getaway, so fired up Yelp and it brought me to Kenji's! This location was in Kapa'a and we learned there is another location in Kilauea. Like a lot of eateries on Kauai it's in a plantation style wooden stand alone building with its own parking lot, no AC, it was a warm day with no trade winds, I felt so bad for the workers, despite the heat we were greeted warmly by Jade and she was very helpful with her descriptions and recommendations of menu items. There are a couple of 4 top tables inside, out back there is seating under umbrellas and in front along the railings on the porch are bar height seating. The food came out quickly, fresh and hot. I ordered the Misoyaki Fish Bowl, Misoyaki Butterfish on a bed of rice and an arugula salad with Shoga Ginger, radish and almost tasted like an Ume dressing, it was delicious! My hubby ordered the Truffle Burger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and truffle sauce, patty looked like it was a half pound. They also had Furikake fries but my hubby opted to skip the fries, but it is a popular item. To top it all off we had the Lychee Milk Shake....what??? A Lychee Milk Shake??? Not sure how that goes together so we had to try it. It was ONO! My hubby is already saying we have to go back, maybe try the one in Kilauea as we were told they have a full bar and it closer to where our hotel is. Highly recommend!

We've passed by this place so many times and never stopped and I'm mad we hadn't. The lady at the counter was really nice and was working her butt off and so was the rest of the staff, so visitors please be patient and kind! The burgers are made fresh and hot and were delicious! The fries were also hot and crispy and the furikake fries were full of flavor. We also ended up ordering a Lychee milkshake which was surprisingly soooo good. Never had one before. The place itself has some seating inside, out front, and a little back patio. Definitely recommend and will be back to try more things off the menu!

The burgers could have used a little more salt, which is weird because restaurants usually over salt the food. You can always add salt so that doesn't bother me. All the burgers were good, some more flavorful than others. They weren't over cooked either, which is unusual as well. They were medium instead of well done like most burger joints. I like how they use the grass-fed big island beef. It's hard to find food that is healthy when eating out. Surprisingly the sushi burrito was my favorite and fantastic, I would get two next time. It was very hot inside, there is no ac in the restaurant, so we sat outside. There are so many chickens begging for food, they are pests to the owners. They had an outdoor area with some spray bottles with water to spray the chickens. They want them gone, and will eat your food off the table if left unattended. It was near a canal that you can walk to. We explored the canal while we waited for our food. Service was friendly and helpful. We had a great experience and will go back when in the area.

Dreaming of returning to Kenji Burger. I got the Kenji burger and furikake fries, both served with an excellent ponzu aioli & teriyaki glaze. They handled our big group quickly without sacrificing quality. I'm back in Chicago and wish we had something like this nearby--it's the kind of place I'd become a regular at. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Very friendly staff, even offered to cut our kids burger in half for them to share. Burgers were great, wish the teriyaki sauce on the fries wasn't so salty but that's okay it was still pretty good.

My coworker and I had to pick up an order at Home Depot and needed a nearby place to grab food with seating. We found Kenji Burger on Yelp, and the menu and photos looked really promising. I'll admit, the name also appealed to me since Kenji happens to be my brother's middle name - felt like it was meant to be! It was another late lunch for us, so we were pretty hungry by the time we arrived. The space was casual and comfortable - exactly what we needed for a quick, satisfying meal between errands. I ordered the chicken katsu sandwich. The chicken was moderately moist and not overly fried, with just the right amount of thickness. Instead of lettuce, it came with coleslaw, which I'm normally not a fan of, but it actually complemented the katsu patty really well. The bun was nicely toasted, which added a great texture to the whole sandwich. That said, while the sandwich was good, I probably wouldn't order it again just because of the cole slaw. It's just not my thing, even though I can appreciate that it worked with the flavors. The sandwich didn't come with a side, so I ordered the furikake fries separately - and WOW, I'm so glad I did. These fries are similar to McDonald's fries in thickness and came out perfectly crispy (which I love). They were drizzled with teriyaki sauce, what I think was mayo, and topped with furikake. The ingredients worked so well together that I would order these over and over again if I ever went back. Seriously addictive. My coworker opted for the Kenji burger, which also didn't come with a side, so we split the furikake fries. He enjoyed his meal as well. The service was fantastic, and the food came out fairly quickly. Definitely a solid spot if you're in the area and craving something different from the usual burger joint.

Back from the beach and starving! Quick search and this place was open late with a good looking menu so off I went! Ordered a loco moco with sauce on the side and a couple burgers. Got back to the hotel, unpacked the food and we dug in. My son liked the loco moco but did not like the fact that the rice is sushi rice. The burgers were good and the patties juicy. Overall great burgers! Pricing was good considering it's a tourist place. Service was great and the workers were friendly even though we showed up close to closing. Overall would go back for burgers and fries. Skip the locomoco. read more

Immediately upon landing in Kauai for vacation, I visited Yelp to see where we should dine that night; wouldn't you know that Kenji Burger was next door to our resort? Being without a car, this was ideal, but as soon as I saw they had a TRUFFLE burger on the menu, my mind was made up for me. My husband- a traditionalist- almost ordered regular fries. A sin! It didn't take much convincing to twist his arm into the Furikake fries. Absolutely delish! There was cute outdoor dining, and we saddled up a picnic bench with and umbrella. There were a string of lights for ambiance. Nice place to sit at night, possibly too warm during the day. read more

This was the first place we went to right after landing in Kauai. Kenji Burger did not disappoint. We had the Kenji and the Hapa burgers. Both of the. Jeffers were outstanding. The teriyaki and the cabbage just works so well in a burger. The burger patty was so good. It was so juicy. We also had the soft shell crab and Japanese burritos. Both were really good, but kind of on the small side. Finally we had the furikake fries, which we all enjoyed. I'm definitely going to try and make my own version of the fries back home. It's a great way to change up French fries. If you're visiting Kauai and want a really one of a kind burger, definitely check out Kenji Burger. read more

After a nice tour at a local chocolate farm we were famished and wanted something savory. We had seen posters for Kenji at the airport, and had passed by it a few times driving through Kapa'a. We were so glad we stopped this time. A delicious juicy burger, amazing fries, and quick service was exactly what we needed. I would never have thought of using teriyaki sauce with fries but it was perfect. The only downside was there was no AC. We went at about 2pm and it was around 83 degrees so the inside of the shop was pretty hot, but the seating options outside were helpful. read more

BEST BURGER IN KAUAI!!! I ordered the Kenji burger which has teriyaki sauce i, ponzo aioli, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, tomato and arugula! It is 100% grass fed and tastes so fresh!!! We knew we needed to stop at Kenji Burger after seeing it featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! We shared a Hapa Burger (on a lettuce wrap due to a gluten sensitivity), Japanese Burrito (no tempura), and the furikake fries. The fries were incredible, the burger was perfectly cooked and the burrito went down in seconds. Amazing spot - would recommend! read more

My husband and I stopped by here right when they opened at 11am. We ordered the Kenji burger and fries ( they're sold separately) I would skip the fries next time they were nothing special and bland. But the burger was VERY GOOD! You can taste how fresh the meat is! My only complaint was that it took half hour just to get our one burger out, we ended up having to take it to go Instead of eating out on the porch like we intended to do. read more

Good burger and fries. Brioche bun with grass fed beef and, tasty truffle aioli. Nice Japanese mushrooms with bacon. A little light on bacon and not a massive burger but it was good. Fries were hot and decent. Just a small roadside place but it was clean and service was quick. read more

Omg I just finished my food and it was DELICIOUS!! 10/10 Recommend!! Definitely a must try! We ordered the Happa Burger Bento which comes with the burger, fries and a drink. We upgraded the fries to the Furikake fries. My partner enjoyed his meal. It was all so delicious. I got the Kenji Burger bento with regular fries and a drink. My burger was sooo tasty. Over priced for amount of food. Rice was extremely hard and undercooked. The loco moco was tiny as well as their poke. Charged a dollar for pickled onions and they have enough for two bites. Definitely would not ever go back to this place again. read more

I was super excited to try Kenji Burger because I'm a fan of Asian fusion cuisine. I think the food here could be amazing, but it falls short on execution. I love katsu style pork and chicken. But my chicken katsu sandwich was a bit burnt and had very little slaw to balance the flavors. If the chicken had been cooked correctly and there was more slaw to liven up the sandwich, it could have been a lot better. The furikake fries were unique and tasted OK, but as with the sandwich, they just didn't hit the mark. I like that they have a wide selection of Asian and Hawaiian beers to go with your meal. I would definitely be willing to give Kenji Burger another try. I might have caught the kitchen crew on a off day. If you like Asian fusion cuisine, you might want to check it out too. read more

Incredible and creative burger options right in town and across from the beloved McDonald's. Well worth the price point. Had the Misoyaki Fish Burger, side of edamame, and Aloha Beer Co Blonde. The burger had a weird texture. Rare in the middle, which is something that wasn't discussed. Furikake fries were decent. The charge for tap water without saying anything, is a turn off. It's the principle, so I won't return. read more

Our experience was kind of a mixed bag. The Kenji and Hapa burgers were really tasty and filled us up. Skip the furikake fries. They were just okay. Now, the service part had a few bumps. The person at the cash register seemed annoyed when we walked in because she was chatting with her coworker. Then she turned around and faced us in front of the cash register and there was this weird silence thing. WE initiated and greeted her with a hello. Lol. Aren't they supposed to greet the customers and not the other way around? Ah the world is becoming like the movie Idiocracy. Also, the tipping choices were all mixed up trying to catch people off guard - usually, you start low on the left and go up, but here, it started super high like a ridiculous 24% or something and went down to 15%. They almost got us with that crap. Even with these hiccups, the burgers saved the day. They were the best part of the meal, and even though the service was a bit off, the yummy food made it worth it. Maybe Kenji Burger could work on making things smoother for customers, but I'd go back for those burgers. Oh yea the parking sucks. There is only 5 spots. You can probably park on Kamoa Rd. read more

I was bummed that this location was out of the green tea matcha milkshake as well as salads, but I thoroughly enjoyed their veggie sushi burrito! It was my first time having sushi in this format and it was delicious. I was worried about it being dry, but it was well-sauced and flavorful inside. The furikake fries were awesome, definitely a new fry experience for me (get them!!). We walked from our hotel but plenty of parking and seating. My husband enjoyed the standard Kenji burger too. read more

Not too bad, the burrito was a bit small but the fish was nice and soft, with both salmon and tuna inside. The lychee shake was sweet and the purée was a bit lacking compared to the general vanilla flavor. There was quite a bit of a line inside the store and only 5 spots for parking. Water cost 50c if you want to get a cup. read more

First time in Kauai and my girlfriend recommended we try out Kenji burger for an early dinner. I decided to try the Veggie Burger and she ordered the poke bowl. We both absolutely loved our meals and savored every delicious bite. The cashier/hostess Cathy couldn't have been any friendlier and that is something customers such as my girlfriend and I appreciate. If you're in Kauai and looking for a tasty place to eat that's fast and efficient I'd recommend trying out Kenji Burger. There are lots of seats to sit inside as well as an outdoor patio area with even more seating. Lastly, make sure you order the Rainbow Roll Burrito, you will not be disappointed! read more

Food and service can't be beat. The meat was so fresh, juicy and delicious. The aloha spirit is alive and well with the staff. My only complaint was SO many flies inside. Seriously, we moved outside and didn't get swarmed nearly as much. I understand it's a tropical place, humid and buggy. I just wish the screen doors were not propped open. read more

So I was a tour when I came to this place and didn't realize this was a place I had seen on tv!! This place was featured on guys diners drive inns and dives... and I can see why. With the tour we got the Kenji burger and the furticak (so??) fries. The burger was cooked to a good medium level, it was very juicy and the flavor was different but good different than I've tasted before. They do out teriyaki on this burger but if you don't like that they have a variety of other burgers to try. They also have sushi burritos and bowls. I wish we had more time there cause I would of order something to go. The fries were good and what doesn't look like much from the picture is enough!! I call these fries "sushi" fries, cause to me that is what they have a hit of taste of. They do have seaweed flakes on them and two different sauces the one I think is yum yum sauce the other I can't make out. Overall I wish I had this place by me so I can try some other things!! read more

A delicious burger!!! Fries not so much, they were ok but have had better and they get cold fast. We had both the Kenji and Truffle burger and they were AMAZING! We had the furakake and reg fries and they got cold super quick but too the furakake fries were extra salty so kinda hard to enjoy. Less 1 star cuz they were out of milkshakes, otherwise one of the best burgers on the island for sure! Small parking lot out front so you may have to park on the side street. read more

we used the kilauea location , the burgers were very tasty! good beef quality , appropriately nice sized meat pattys , i had mine with an egg which was perfect cooked with runny yolk but not wrapped to squish the yolk prior to my recieving it. French fries were crisp plentiful and not greasy . we ordered online, the order service was easy and well defined with options to add-on to the burger or make special requests and pick up service was punctual and friendly . as opposed to other burger places locally the quality and taste are well worth the value . read more

Limited parking, there are outdoor dining in front and back of the restaurant with indoor seating available. Great island music ambience with lighted back patio, some with umbrellas for shade/rain. They use 100% Kauai grass fed beef and paper take out containers which is a plus. 3.5 stars for food. The truffle burger and loco moco were good. Hapa burger and ahi sandwich and furikake fries were overly salted. Love the food here. Tried the Tuna burger, lobster roll, Kenji bowl, furikake fries... delicious. Highly recommend this place. We went here 2 times on our trip and loved the variety of foods. Meet the Business Owner: Erik T.

Erik has worked in every possible position in the restaurant industry. He was born and raised in Kapaa, but moved to Las Vegas,NV in his early 20s to further his education in the industry. He is the founder of the very popular Las Vegas food truck TrukNYaki, which has grown to dominate the food truck world in Las Vegas. With his family, he moved back to his homeland in the summer of 2016 to open Kenji Burger, named after his grandfather.

"A Bit Underwhelmed at Kenji Burger" During our recent visit to Kauai, we decided to stop by Kenji Burger, given its hype and numerous locations on the island. Unfortunately, we found ourselves somewhat disappointed. The burgers we ordered were, in a word, average. They lacked the moisture we anticipated from a premium burger joint, and there wasn't a hint of sauce to combat the overall dryness. What should have been a succulent and flavor-filled experience was instead a somewhat arid encounter. This experience was a stark contrast to the raving reviews and numerous franchises we saw around the island. We had high expectations, which sadly weren't met. The burgers didn't quite hit the mark and left us longing for the juiciness and flavor that are the hallmarks of a great burger. On a brighter note, there's a possibility that we simply didn't order their best dishes. We overheard rave reviews about their sushi burritos, so perhaps those would have been a better choice for our culinary adventure. All things considered, Kenji Burger was our least favorite stop in our gastronomic journey across the island. It wasn't a bad experience, but it didn't live up to the hype or our expectations. The flavors are outstanding! I ordered the Kenji burger with furikake fries. My husband had the sushi burrito and a green tea milkshake. The whole experience here is top notch. The service was exceptional, we got our food fast and I can't say enough how delicious it is.
